4 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2002 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 04/18/2017

To whom it may concern: on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 I was on the highway on my way home from work when suddenly I heard a very loud pop. At that moment I wasn't sure whether the sound had come from my vehicle or someone else's, so I continued to drive home. When I arrived to my house I proceeded to check my vehicle to make sure that said noise hadn't come from my car. That's when I noticed that the dashboard on the passenger side was elevated and the airbag was visible. After extensive research, I have found that multiple Toyota vehicles including but not limited to the following models, 2003-2008 corolla, 2003-2008 matrix, 2003-2006 tundra, and 2002-2007 sequoia have had identical problems with their passenger side airbags and have been recalled for same. According to the information found on Toyota. Com, the reason these airbags were unsafely erupting was due to "high absolute humidity". Oddly enough the day that this incident occurred it was unusually humid out; I remember turning my air conditioner on because it was so hot outside. Now, I understand that my car is not among the ones that I previously listed but the fact that the same thing that occurred to the above-mentioned vehicles happened to mine should not be dismissed. It is alarming to think of what would have happened if that airbag would have erupted while I was driving in the highway, what if there was someone in the car with me?.

6 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2004 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 09/28/2016

Noticed slight swelling of the passenger side airbag over a period of a few months. Appeared that the upper seam of the cover was widening. Yesterday when driving home noticed it appeared larger than usual. Upon getting home too a picture, as the airbag seam had begun to split and can see a red foam like substance through the split. Called local Toyota dealership and individual I spoke with was vague, had never heard of anything similar or any airbag recalls with Toyota. Seemed distracted and rushed, although it was about an hour til their official closing time. Proceeded to call Toyota customer service. Spoke with a very nice agent who searched for recalls based on my VIN number. She came up with no recalls but expressed similar concerns as myself of the airbag deploying and causing injury or accident. She assigned me a case number but advised me to have it looked at at a Toyota dealership. After researching online, it seems like a problem that many have noted. . . Same description and very similar pictures.

15 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2011 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/17/2015

I am writing because I believe that Toyota may have underreported a problem with the voluntary recall associated with NHTSA campaign number 13v014000. I own a 2011 Toyota Camry. However, my VIN was not a part of the recall, or neither I nor my dealer received notice. As you know, this recall is associated with the failure of the front passenger airbag to inflate in an accident. On February 17, 2015, my wife and daughter were t-boned, with the striking car hitting the front passenger door and b-pillar area flush at about 40 mph. Although the passenger side air curtain deployed, the right side airbag did not. My daughter received some injuries from the failure of this airbag to inflate and protect her. Toyota did visit the vehicle after the collision and downloaded the data from the electronic control module, and it showed a failure of that airbag. I tried to attach a copy of the downloaded data for your review, but was not able to attach it. Please let me know how to send you this pdf file. I am concerned that my car was not included in the recall and that perhaps Toyota has underreported the extent of the problem, putting more unsuspecting Toyota customers at risk. If you need any further information from me, please let me know. My cell phone number is 515-402-0561. I would like to be kept in the information loop regarding any investigation of Toyota that results from my complaint.

18 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

When I entered my vehicle, the right passenger side air bag cover was hanging down. It is still attached at the bottom, but hanging from the top. I have not recently been in an accident, so there is nothing that I could have done to have this happen. I cannot pop it back into place and am worried should an accident occur, the air bag will not be of any use.

19 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2003 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/21/2014

Several months ago, I went to my local Toyota dealership about a concern with my passenger side air bag. I was told without them touching my vehicle that I needed a new dashboard which is over $2000. 00. I left because I didn't have $2000. 00 plus to purchase a dashboard. I went online to Toyota. Com and submitted a complaint on 6/24/2014. I spoke with heather, a day or so later and she advised me to go back and have them check it, which I did and I was told when I got there it would be an hour/hour and a half before they get to my car. I told frederick (advisor) that I'll wait in the lounge area, it was approximately 2:01pm, at 2:30pm he told me my car was ready. I was given a couple of print outs and was told once again I needed a new dashboard because the vehicle was old, per mr. Frederick. He also asked me if I could read when I asked if it was stated on the print outs, very rude! I spoke with heather again and she said she would have to speak with my local dealership first and she'd contact me in a few days, which she did and said the service manager named tim said he told me it was a cosmetic issue. I never spoke with a tim. She also told me that Toyota will not help me because it's a cosmetic issue, per tim at bev smith Toyota. I attached photos with my complaint to Toyota. I went online and found a complaint site and posted my complaint on there and found out I could contact NHTSA. As I stated to Toyota corporation, I'm not seeking a new vehicle or money, I just want this problem fixed. I would hate for something tragic to happen when the issue could've been resolved! basically, Toyota is saying that their dashboards don't last over ten years. Very disappointed with them and I was considering purchasing another Camry, not after this!! my complaint isn't the only one for that particular vehicle. Shameful!!.

20 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/23/2014

On my 2007 Toyota Camry I have noticed that the front dashboard became very shiny and become very sticky and has since started to deteriorate. The shine coming from the dashboard reflects and causes a harsh glare which makes it very hard to see through the windshield. Also, the passenger side air bag sensor is not working, it remains off no matter what. Not sure if this is related to the dashboard melting but I have searched the internet and have seen several complaints of this same issue.

My wife was t-boned this week at a 4-way stop (flashing red light) at approximately 40mph while driving my 2009 Camry hb with side curtain and seat-mounted side air bags. This vehicle has seven airbags including driver front air bag, front seat-mounted driver side air bag, and driver side curtain air bag. She was wearing her seatbelt. No bags deployed! it appears her head went through the driver's side window. She was in icu with concussion, bleeding on the brain and brain swelling. Driver?s door was pushed in about 6 inches from the impact. I bought this car for the safety of the seven airbags. All maintenance on this low mileage vehicle was done at the local Toyota dealer.

26 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2011 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 09/07/2011

The vehicle was purchased as a used rental return vehicle on August 18, 2011. On September 7, 2011 the vehicle was taken to the dealership (iron trail motors - virginia, mn) because the air bag sensor on the passenger side turned off while the seat was occupied by an adult. The dealership told us that they reset the airbag and that would resolve the problem. I took the vehicle home and within a week the same error occured on the passenger side airbag. I returned the car to the dealership and they ordered a new wiring harness from Toyota and replaced the wiring to the air bag and sensors. I once again took the vehicle home and within three days the same error reoccured. I returned the vehicle and after having the car for four days I received a phoine call from the dealership stating that the factory representative from Toyota told them (dealership) that we were "being seated to heavily" on the seat and that there was nothing they could do to repair the problem and they would reset the sensor once again, additionally I was also told by the dealership that Toyota would no longer pay for any further returns of the car because of air bag issues. Today I filed a formal complaint with Toyota customer care (case # 1110132025).

It is possible that the 2010 Toyota Camry xle is a total loss, however, none of the airbags in the car deployed.

28 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2004 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 05/30/2011

We have a 2004 Toyota solara. Recently we have noticed several cracks/fractures in the dash board, primarily on the passanger side of the vehicle. Research has shown that this is a common problem with this model year. Toyota maintains the situation is cosmetic and not covered under warrantee or recall. Our concern is this is a possible safety issue, as the passanger side airbag is deployed through the dashboard. If the dashboard is weakened by this cracking. Would this increase the possibility the airbag deploying incrorrectly, thus raising the possibility of injury or death? we have a disabled daughter that frequently sits in the passanger side of the vehicle and we want to make sure the situation is safe for her.

31 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2011 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 11/30/2010

On November 30, 2010 our 2011 Camry was involved in an accident. The Camry was struck by a 1999 Honda crv, the point of impact was behind the right front headlight. The crv continued to travel along the right front quarter panel, breaking the right front tire and stopped at the front of the right front passenger door. The estimated speed of my Camry was 10mph and the Honda crv was traveling at approximately 40mph. The front air bag on the Camry deployed but none of the side curtain air bags deployed. The impact of the vehicle caused my daughter, riding in the backseat on the passenger side, to hit her head on the window. The impact caused the window to shatter. A witness at the scene observed her stocking cap fly out the rear window. My daughter was taken to the doctor and was cleared and we were advised to observe her for the next 24 hours to make sure she did not have a concussion. The doctor also stated that she was lucky to be wearing the stocking cap as it helped cushion the blow. The damage on the Camry was severe enough to total the vehicle. I tried to get an answer from Toyota as to why the side curtain air bags did not deploy but as of yet I have not received a response.

>1. I rented a 2010 Toyota Camry from hertz. The vehicle was fitted with side curtain and front airbags. 2. On September 14th 2010 I was driving southbound down a highway in alabama at a speed of 55 mph. A Ford f-150 driven by someone under the influence decided to cross the highway from my left. The f-150 struck my rental vehicle in the drivers side door. The f-150 then pushed the Camry to the right off the road into a deep drainage ditch alongside the highway. The Camry went front first into the ditch wall smashing in the front of the car. 3. The vehicle I am told was found to be "totaled". Their was a crease from the initial impact from the front drivers wheel well extending back to the passengers door. The front bumper/lights were also destroyed. The car was towed and taken back into possession by hertz rental company. 4. My concern is that the airbags did not deploy. 5. This accident has resulted in suffering from multiple medical issues. I have not been able to return to work as of this date 19 October 2010.
