I had just bought a 2010 Toyota Camry in March 2010. My wife was driving it at approximately 65mph and a wreckless motorcycle driver hit the car at appx 100 mph, the motorcycle damaged the car was a total loss due to the severe damage to the roof, the side rear side panels the trunk the bumper rear windshield and interior, the driver landed in the roof but almost went inside the car through the rear windshield which was broken two air bags are located on each side of the rear windshield, they came out of place but did not deploy, my passengers were injured, my 4 yr old's car sit was in the car but she was not in the car at the time, the motorcycle and the driver's body actually would have hit her if she would have been inside the car and if he would have gone inside the car through the windshield, (rear) he would have killed my passengers. I have some pictures and I would like you to see them, it is obvious that the air bags should have deployed.

My 2007 Toyota Camry xle was in a serious accident this past week. My son was driving and the rear abruptly went to the right and he lost control and skidded across a road into a soft shoulder/embankment causing significant damage to the front of the vehicle, the car then flipped/rolled over landing on it's roof. There ended up being substantial damage to most of the vehicle. Upon inspection of the vehicle by us on the following day we did notice that the right rear tire had blown out, I assume this caused the abrupt veering to the right described above. My son had his seat belt on and luckily had only minor injuries. My concern/question is why the air bags did not go off. This includes the ones built into the front pillars and those on the side designed to protect the occupants head and arm, etc. Btw: this vehicle was recalled for the defective gas pedal/floor mats and was scheduled to have the recall/repair completed on 7/29/10. Photo's were taken by him of the damage.
The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the dashboard developed a crack, exposing the passenger's side air bag. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

The accident occurred on the 5 freeway going from northern California to southern California, on the grapevine. It was rainy out and during the time of the incident the rain was just softening up. In the far left lane I driven my vehicle at about 55 - 60mph, speed limit was at 65mph. I begin to slow down, and while doing so the car begins to swerve and not react to my brakes. It then turns out to the next lane and begins spinning about 4 times while I pull up the emergency brakes. No car collision happened, but it was headed straight towards the guard rail, where it then hit the left front of the car and then the side left of the car and back left of the car. The car finally braked, with damage to the front, side left, and back of vehicle, blown out both back tires, wouldn't turn on, & no air bags deployed. The accident caused damaged to the vehicle and cracked pavement as well as moved guard reel affected area about a foot in. Passenger had head, neck and back injuries, nothing to serious, just enough to get checked up and sent to the hospital. I believe the speed of the car should have caused the air bags to deploy. Its a 2003 Toyota Camry, I've been the owner for about a year and a half, no accidents prior to this one.
My 22 year old son was driving our 2006 Toyota Camry was involved in a broadside collision with another vehicle at a signalized intersection. Our Camry suffered severe front end damage and the adjuster for our insurance company deemed the car as a total loss. Our 2006 Toyota Camry was equipped with front and side airbag but neither of them were deployed in the crash. Our son escaped with minor injuries but it could have been disastrous and our son could have been seriously injured in the accident.

Below you will find the email that I sent to Toyota on February 7, 2010 as well as the response I received. To this date I have not received any other communication from Toyota. I truly believe that one of these safety recalls led to my car accident in November, 2009. My vehicle was included in both the floor mat and accelerator recalls. Discussion thread

I had a car accident 11-30-09 which resulted in the total loss of my 2009 Camry le [xxx]. Due to the closed head injury I received, I am unable to recall the accident. However, viewing the accident report, it appears my vehicle was traveling much faster than I travel on this roadway. It was noted that my side airbag did not deploy when my vehicle struck a tree on the drivers side door. Due to the recalls, I am now concerned that one of the recall issues was the cause of my accident. My car is now at a salvage yard near atlanta, GA. And I feel that Toyota should be concerned enough to check my car for defects. I bought this car based on your reputation for dependability and safety, and now due to the recalls, I can't imagine buying another Toyota. Perhaps my greatest concern are media reports that Toyota has been aware of these problems for quite some time and chose not to notify owners. I now have to wonder about this companies ethics. Srs (supplemental restraint system) indicator warning light came on & stays on. Brought the vehicle in to my local Toyota dealer who notified me that they "found open circuit in seat squibb not serviceable part" $3154. 28 to replace the seat. The passenger side airbags will not deploy in an accident.
Auto struck on passenger side of car by another vehicle at the right front tire and passenger right side door. Not one of the side airbags deployed, resulting in injury to passenger and driver.
Airbag warning light flashes for passager side airbags. If you jiggle wiring under seat often the next time you start car light will be off.

When I tried to lower the power window on the passenger side of my 2006 Toyota Camry the window system made a loud popping noise but it would not lower. It seems like the window fell off its track and is now inoperable. Toyota corp. Said they would not make the repair under the warranty which just ran out two weeks ago. I believe this creates a safety issue which should be investigated. In 2008 Toyota recalled the 2006 Toyota corollas for a similar problem but did not include the Camry model. I would like to request an investigation of this problem.
I noticed a slight swelling in the area around the passenger side air bag seam. I looked down into the crevice and saw a slight separation. I didn't pay it no mind at the time. Today, the seam split has grown to three inches. I'm concerned that the air bag might deploy and injure a passenger.
There have been no major events yet. The problem is in the defect of the front side airbag cover falls while driving on the 07 Camry I have had for a year. It has been fixed 4 times and now they do not know what to do. I am concerned for a serious malfunction. I have contacted Toyota and there is no response. Please help me if you can, it may save some one else as well. It needs to be a serious recall!.
My passenger side air bag cover looks like is coming apart. I see a good gap between the cover and the dashboard. Inside the airbag cover, I can see a yellow plastic sheet kind of material. I am worried whether it will affect the performance of the airbag or whether if dust or something gets in , it will create problem on its functionality. I took it to gene messer Toyota in lubbock, texas, the service advisor said "tech states separation appears to be caused do to excessive heat. Air bags operating as designed. Does not appear to have been tampered with. Cost to replace . . . . ". They claim it is not an issue and if I want I can replace my entire dashboard to seal the gap on my expense. 1. It may look fine now what if tomorrow if the cover comes out fully that when I am driving in a highway. 2. Anything can get-in in such a big gap. 3. Excessive heat ( the max temperature on this month-June was around 98+) so they mean to say the dashboards are not designed to withstand that outside temperature ?(probably it will be little more inside). So are they saying excessive summer heat can create a gap between dash-board and air bag cover for any car?. Air bag is such a critical safety part. How can Toyota allow such gap between the cover and dash-board for the summer heat?.
Passenger side curtain airbag deployed on hard door slam.
Door slammed shut and side air curtain deployed. Car was not running and at a full stop.
2006 v6 Toyota Camry xle. Driver lost control of vehicle in icy conditions. Vehicle struck concrete embankment at high rate of speed, approximately 50-70 mph. No other vehicles involved in accident. 2004 Toyota solara drivers side airbag did not deploy upon impact this was a certified used car from fremont Toyota of fremont California. Found out later that no side airbags of that year or any new Toyota are rated.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the front passenger side air bag sensor does not work. His wife weighs 100 pounds, but the sensor does not always activate when she is seated in the passenger seat. The dealer stated that the vehicle was designed to sense a greater weight size and nothing could be done to correct the design. The manufacturer agreed with the dealer. The current mileage was 6,500 and failure mileage was 300. Updated 05/19/08 updated 05/19/08.
There was a vibration sound on the passenger side air bag. The local Toyota dealer checked out the vehicle and indicated air bag malfunction problem, and that it may deploy or may not deploy in case of accident. Driving the vehicle is not recommended due to safety issue. Updated 10/10/07.

And I have attached it. 3. Excessive heat ( the max temperature on this month-June was around 95+) so they mean to say the dash-boards are not designed to withstand that outside temperature ?(probably it will be little more inside). So are they saying excessive summer heat can create a gap between dash-board and air bag cover for any car?. Air bag is such a critical safety part how can allow such gap between the cover and dash-board for the summer heat? . I am planning to take this to NHTSA to see a pattern. The explanation of excessive heat looks unrealistic. Safety is my first concern not only the person driving or passengers and to the other cars on the road too. If the air bag pops out when I am driving, it can definitely distract any driver. Or if dust gets in it can mal-function too. Whether Toyota is installing a car dash board which cant even withstand sun light temperature ? if that's the case, am I going to see the gap increasing by end of this summer ? my incident # with Toyota is : 070625-000298 and my email is documented at their Toyota national headquarters under file #200706260111.
My airbags on both sides continue to fall down out of the casing. I have reported this to Toyota corporate 5 times and it has been repaired 5 times. The problem still exits. I called Toyota again 2 weeks ago and they have not returned my call. This is an immediate danger to my family with these falling airbags.
On September 24, 2006 I put the key into the ignition and started my 2001 Toyota Camry solara. The car was still in park and had never been moved. Within seconds of starting the vehicle the drivers side airbag spontaneously deployed. As a result of the air bag deployment I sustained a fractured left ulna, neck and shoulder pain (cervical sprain) and issues with hearing in my left ear. This car is unsafe!.

I bought a 2007 Camry se v6 and have had nothing but problems with it. Transmission slips, creaking dash and windshield, a pillar airbag cover replaced 3 times, center console stack does not line up, dash is not flush next to a & b pillars (haven't seen one yet that was), knocking noise in rear strut tower (fixed after two dealer visits, they added sound insulation), driver side armrest fabric peeling off (seen at first delivery of vehicle ), radio head unit freezes up randomly (dealer cannot fix because they cannot duplicate), steering is very loose and vehicle drifts on road (safety concern, dealer stated characteristic of tire), front grill loose on right side (dealer fixed) and seat plastic rail covers broken upon delivery (dealer fixed). Vehicle also idles rough in cold weather (dealer stated bad gas). Two to three second delay in acceleration (dealer stated this is normal). Each dealer visit required me to leave the car once for ordering the part and a second time for installation. I have wasted way too much time at dealerships having my car repaired to ever consider buying another Toyota again. Over all I should have tested other cars before buying Toyota based on its reliability alone.
I live in canada but I thought this was relative as I notice a recall on this particular car for this precise problem. I had a 2007 Toyota Camry hybrid was hit on Feb 12,2008, but a minivan that had lost control and come into our lane. My Toyota Camry was hit front offset, possibly two impacts from minivan as the front driver side door was crushed. The car was written off and the driver side air bag on the steering wheel was deployed and the knee air bag was deployed. ,but eventhough my front driver door was crushed in and I could not open it myself and someone opened my vehicle from the outside, the side air bag was not deployed nor was the curtain shield air bag deployed. I suffered a mild concussion from the accident and am still receiving treatment to date. Thank you.
The contact stated while stopping at a stop sign the contact's vehicle was involved in a crash. Upon impact, the front and side air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was hit broadside on the passenger's door. The vehicle was driven away from the scene. The vehicle is now at a body shop awaiting repairs. The manufacturer was notified, and the contact was expecting a return phone call.
The contact stated while 2004 Toyota Camry was not moving it was rear ended and pushed across the highway into a parked van. The impact was mainly on the front passenger's side. The driver's side air bag deployed, but the passenger's side air bag did not deploy. The vehicle was totaled. A police report was taken at the scene. There has been no inspection to the vehicle since the accident. The contact sustained an injury, a fractured wrist. Updated 1/11/2006.
I was involved in an accident with my 2005 Toyota Camry. I truck turned in front on me. His truck hit my front driver side(front light) al the way down to the back door. None of the air bags deployed. The driver side mirror shattered the driver side window. If the side curtain side air bag would have deployed the glass would have cut me up and the mirror would have hit me in the face.
After being struck on the side by a vehicle traveling approximately 45 mph the side impact air bag came out to the size of a small balloon, it did not deploy to full size. The vehicle was a total loss. .
Consumer received recall 04-v346-000 for replacement of the curtain shield air bag. No parts were available. Service manager cathy.
While driving 25-30 mph, the consumer stopped without warning and another motorist vehicle t-boned the consumer's vehicle on the passenger side. Upon impact, the air bag did not deploy. The consumer sustained injuries. The frame had broken in half and the vehicle was a total loss.
