The airbag recall on select Toyota Camry. The manufacturer of the airbags in japan are said to be defective. I have not received new sensors that are on back order. The onboard safety sos may also be defective in these models.

4 Air Bag problem of the 2009 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 11/05/2025

The vehicle was involved in a rollover crash at 60 mph that ended in striking a tree, which intruded upon the entire backseat area. The driver/passenger airbag(s) did not deploy despite conditions where deployment should have occurred. There were no signs of prior deployment or tampering: to my knowledge, the airbag system had not previously deployed or been serviced for that. The airbag system is available for inspection, as the vehicle was sold to the insurance company. My safety was put at risk as I sustained physical injuries that may have been prevented by airbag deployment. The vehicle was inspected by insurance representatives. There were no prior warning lamps regarding the airbags prior to the crash.

Failure Date: 08/03/2025

I had just gotten off work and turned on my car. I put my seatbelt on and that's when a message popped up on my dash saying "srs airbag system malfunction. Visit your dealer". I was a bit concerned and worried and so when I started driving home, it still displayed that message and it started to beep as I drove more. 19 Air Bag problem of the 2019 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 07/31/2025

The vehicle is experiencing multiple active safety system failures, severely impacting driver control and passenger protection. The most critical issue is a persistent srs airbag malfunction warning, along with the system failing to detect that the seatbelt is buckled, even when properly latched. This disables key safety systems such as airbags and seatbelt pretensioners. The vehicle also suffers from delayed or weak braking response, despite having adequate brake pad wear. This is especially dangerous in stop-and-go traffic or emergency braking scenarios. In addition, the adaptive cruise control system intermittently disengages or fails to maintain distance, and the brake hold feature does not reliably hold the vehicle when stopped, causing rollback or unintended movement. These issues are consistent with known failure conditions already documented in the following recalls: – NHTSA recall 21v-890 – brake booster vacuum pump failure – NHTSA recall 19v567000 – occupant classification system calibration error however, Toyota has refused to acknowledge these defects in this case because the vehicle does not fall under the original recall VIN ranges. This creates a serious safety concern, as the same defective behavior exists outside the recalled population, and is being left unaddressed. This not only places me at risk of airbag and braking failure, but puts other drivers and pedestrians at great danger due to the potential for system failure during high-risk moments such as highway driving, stoplight braking, or crash avoidance maneuvers. A broader investigation into the root cause and expansion of the affected VIN scope is urgently needed before serious injury or loss of life occurs.

27 Air Bag problem of the 2021 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 06/28/2025

This first portion of the description if an english translation from the latter part, which was received in spanish. Complaint to NHTSA – unresolved recall on 2021 Toyota Camry I own a used 2021 Toyota Camry purchased from an authorized Toyota dealer. After purchase, I discovered that the vehicle has an open recall related to the airbag system. According to information from NHTSA, there is currently no solution available from the manufacturer. My concern is twofold: 1. The vehicle makes a constant daily noise, apparently related to the problem reported in the recall, which increases my distrust in the car's safety. 2. The dealership did not inform me before purchase about the existence of this active, unrepaired recall, which I consider a serious lack of transparency and a safety risk to consumers. This puts me in a situation of road safety concerns, as I am driving a vehicle that does not meet minimum safety standards due to a defect recognized by the manufacturer, but with no available remedy. I request that NHTSA: investigate the case and confirm whether Toyota and the dealership are complying with their notification and transparency obligations. Demand that the manufacturer provide a clear and timely solution to this recall, as consumers should not be driving a defective vehicle without alternatives. Strengthen consumer protection mechanisms so that no dealership can sell vehicles with open recalls and no repairs available without explicitly informing the buyer. I trust that NHTSA can intervene, as this is a public safety risk that affects not only me as the owner, but also my passengers and other drivers on the road.

28 Air Bag problem of the 2011 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 06/25/2025

Police case : 2500011609 the failure of the airbags in my Toyota Camry placed both the driver and the minor passenger at significant risk of injury. While the airbags in the Ford vehicle deployed and presumably helped protect its occupants, my passenger was left unprotected, leading to sustained injuries that require ongoing medical treatment. This raises serious concerns about the reliability of Toyota’s airbag system. Collision between Toyota Camry 2011 with a 2005 black Ford freestyle. The Ford vehicle's airbags deployed, but the airbags in my Toyota Camry did not deploy, despite the severity of the crash. The airbag system in my Toyota Camry, specifically the airbag sensors and deployment mechanism, failed to activate during the crash. This failure prevented the airbags from deploying, which is critical given the impact severity. The vehicle was totaled due to extensive damage, and the airbag system in my Toyota Camry has not been inspected by the manufacturer yet. However, it should be made available for inspection by Toyota or a qualified independent service center upon request. The failure of the airbags to deploy exposed the driver and the minor passenger to increased risk of injury. The airbags are an essential safety feature meant to reduce injury during moderate to severe collisions, and their failure likely contributed to the severity of the injuries sustained by the passenger. The passenger, a minor, is now attending regular doctor appointments for treatment, indicating the serious nature of the injuries. Not able to perform her summer job and not able to appear in pre enrolled all swimming events . She is unable to swim or move her body swiftly. Her gripping power is now too less on left hand side. •the vehicle has not yet been inspected by a dealer or independent service center to confirm the failure of the airbag system. However, the failure to deploy was immediately noticeable after the accident, and it was clearly documented in the police rep.

29 Air Bag problem of the 2019 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 06/24/2025

Component/system failed: the electronic control module (ecm) and related wiring were compromised by a dealer-installed lojack anti-theft system. The device was spliced into wiring near the airbag system and ecm, causing repeated faults. The component remains in the vehicle and is available for inspection. Safety risks: 1. Wiring near airbags may interfere with deployment. 2. Ecm faults risk stalling, loss of power, or emissions failure. 3. Hidden wiring increases short-circuit risk, especially near coolant areas. 4. These conditions place driver and passenger safety at risk. Problem confirmation & inspections: the issue has been reproduced in multiple dealer visits. One Toyota dealer identified the improper lojack installation as the likely root cause. Service records are available. Warning lamps: yes. Check engine lights and warning messages appeared within months of purchase and continue intermittently. Summary: the car was sold as a Toyota gold certified pre-owned (cpo) vehicle, advertised as thoroughly inspected and protected. In reality, it contained an undisclosed modification that created hidden defects, repeated ecm errors, and safety concerns. Concern: the ecm is covered by the 8-year/80,000-mile federal emissions warranty and the 7-year/100,000-mile gold cpo warranty. Yet Toyota denied my arbitration claim as “ineligible. ” if such cases are refused, it means dealers can install aftermarket systems, charge buyers, and avoid accountability. In that situation, the Toyota gold cpo program becomes meaningless—a consumer deception rather than protection. Request: I respectfully ask NHTSA to investigate whether dealer-installed systems like lojack pose systemic safety risks and whether Toyota’s warranty and arbitration processes are adequately protecting consumers.
