Failure Date: 02/13/2020

While on the street as I was backing my car into a parking space adjacent to the street curb the car suddenly accelerated in reverse at high speed, crashing over the curb and sidewalk, rear end first. My stepping on the brakes in an attempt to stop the car was unsuccessful; the car did not come to a stop until it crashed into an iron fence which bordered the yard causing damage to the fence and the car. A similar incident occurred quite a few years ago when the same car suddenly accelerated in reverse out of control and I was unable to bring it to a halt until it hit a parked car. I do not know what caused either of these incidents to occur.

14 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2005 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 04/13/2018

On 4/13 around 2pm, I arrived at friend's townhouse (address: 203 wildfell trl. Cary nc27513). I drove my car into a parking lot in front of the townhouse slowly while stepping on the brake. Before I shifted the gear to the 'parking', my car suddenly shoot up and hit the electrical transformer box in the front of the townhouse. The car kept moving forward until it hit the outside wall of the next door neighbor's house, then moving backward and stopped. The electrical transformer box was damaged, that caused the power outage in the neighborhood for at least 6 hours. The front bumper of my car was also damaged. I also got the citation and got charged with 'the misdemeanor or infraction' from the police, for that I will need to hire a lawyer to defend the case. I was so shocked and panic. I have a very clean driving record in the past 30 years. I knew Toyota did have a 'sudden acceleration' problem, but because my car was never recalled so I thought it was safe to drive. Yesterday, I searched the internet and found out the '2005 Toyota Camry' did have several car incidents caused by 'sudden acceleration' in the past. I was lucky that the car didn't injure or kill any people. I don't want to drive this car anymore. Please investigate why Toyota didn't recall my car and the Toyota company should reimburse me all the costs of the damages.

I have a video recording of the event on my security camera.

17 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2003 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 12/07/2017

On December 7,2017, I was in a parking lot in florida. As I started going into a parking space, the car began to surge. I had a loss of steering and braking. I almost hit the car next to me. Luckily that did not happen. I kept pressing down on the brake, but it took time for the steeering wheel to respond to me. I shut off the car because it seemed like the car had a mind of its own. I had 2 witnesses in the car. Who saw that my car was in drive, and that my foot was on the brake pedal. The passenger checked the floor mat, and it was lying completely flat. I do not know why I had this loss of control. This also happened to me in 2010, when I had unintended acceleration, and my car hit a tree. I am now afraid to drive my car, and willl not do so because I feel it is unsafe.

25 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2017 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 04/22/2017

I bought a new 2017 Toyota Camry xle in April 2017 and soon thereafter started noticing some unusual, unintended acceleration and jerking during slowing down/deceleration. The car jerks and tries to maintain speed against the driver's intention to slow down gradually and/or stop, specifically noticeable at 20 and 30 mph speeds. During slow down, seems like car switches gear abnormally to maintain speed when it's supposed to be slowing down gradually. It tries to maintain speed for an unusually long time instead of smoothly slowing down with no foot on accelerator pedal, causing too much use of brake over and over to slow it down and avoid collision with car in front of you, slow down or stop. I am contacting you after exhausting all my efforts to convince dealer and the Toyota corporate office to have them take this unintended acceleration safety concern seriously and do something about it. I am sure lots of 2017 Camry owners are suffering and frustrated with the same issue, but cannot get anywhere with dealer tech services or Toyota.

27 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2004 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

February 1, 2017, turning into a parking lot at 700 e. Main st. , grass valley, CA, turned right into a parking space and as the brake was applied, the car surged forward, jumping a cement curb, the fender grazing a tree on the left, coming to an abrupt stop when it hit the cement base of a light pole. Fluids were leaking from beneath the car, the front bumper was hanging off, the driver side door caught as it was opened. The car was towed to a body shop. This was the second incident, with the same event occurring 2 years prior but with less surge and no car body damage. Both incidents reported to Toyota immediately. Toyota investigated and both times found no cause for the unintended acceleration. Since the car hit a stationary object I am found "at fault" by my insurance, which is annoying. I did not have the car repaired since it is clearly unsafe. Today, may 1, 2017, a salvage company picked up the car to be used solely for parts. The car is in otherwise excellent condition, but I could not place another human being in jeopardy by repairing and selling it, nor could I ever feel safe again driving the car.

28 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 11/18/2016

Made a 90 degree turn to park car, car rapidly accelerated and crashed into a wall within 25 feet of turning causing auto body damage. Data recorder report pulled from third party shows last five seconds before impact and recorded within . 3 milliseconds rpb went from 400 to 2000 and speed went from 3. 7 mph to 9. 9 mph. Toyota wrote back and said nothing was wrong with car. If you review crash site and distance car turned to the building, it is impossible to accelerate that quickly in that short of distance. Vehicle was in motion on a city street turning into a private parking lot.

29 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2014 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 10/15/2016

Sudden unintended acceleration in 2014 Toyota Camry. Incident occurred Saturday October 15, 2016 in corinth, texas. Approximately 5:20pm. Weather was sunny and clear. Road conditions clear and dry. Outside air temperature approximately 80f. Driving 30mph approaching an intersection. We have the red light. Brakes applied. Brake pedal goes to the floor - no brakes at all. Immediately the engine revs up to very high rpm and unintentional, out-of-control acceleration takes place. The car goes through the intersection against the red light. No cross-traffic or otherwise there could have been a serious crash. The car is accelerating on its own. The transmission is aggressively moved into the "park" position. The car stops. Braking action returns. The engine continues to run however the rpm returns to normal. The car is cautiously driven at 35 - 40mph to local Toyota dealer - Toyota of denton, texas. If the car approaches 50mph the engine begins to rev up to high rpm however braking action remains normal. This incident has left the owners with no confidence in Toyota. The car is not trustworthy. Even if the service technicians say the car is good to go, would you allow your family members to drive this car? no way. And with Toyota's reputation over the last 10 years with handling the sudden unintended acceleration problems would you trust this car? no way. We want to be done with Toyota. The car needs to be sent to the junkyard. And we want the purchase-money loan cancelled and our down payment back. And we will go to another car manufacturer.

30 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2005 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 10/12/2016

I initially had an unexpected acceleration, but was able to stop the car and didn't know why it had happened. I was unaware that this was a common issue. Later I was backing out of a parking space, then switched to drive in attempt to go forward. The car accelerated w/o my touching the gas. I couldn't stop the car and it plowed into several other cars. I didn't understand why this had happened. The police came and assumed it was my fault because after having this happen, I was confused. They took the car to a body shop that did the repairs. No one mentioned this is a common problem w/toyotas. By the time I heard about sudden unintended acceleration (sua), I contacted Toyota. As the insurance company had already arranged to have the car fixed before I called, the investigator said they wouldn't even look at the car as it had been repaired. Then I had a 3rd incident where I'd come to a stop, but the car began to accelerate. Initial date estimate was a guesstimate for mid-October acceleration. 11. 21. 16 was the accident, which resulted in over $7,000 damage to my car and more was paid towards the cars I hit. The most recent acceleration was January 16, 2017. To date Toyota has on reattached the carpets, so I am concerned this car is still a risk to my life & that of others.

32 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2002 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 08/09/2016

I was backing into a parking space with the foot on the break when my car suddenly accelerated back and I hit the wall. I looked down to see if my foot was on the gas but it was on the break. I got out and looked at the car but since I was close to the wall there was no damage. This was two days ago. Forward to today, I pulled out of my parking spot on the street. I put my foot on the brake at the intersection to check for traffic, when I applied the break, the engine revved and the car accelerated about a foot and stopped. So while going to my destination I had to stop significantly far away from cars, intersections or anything else because when I break. The car accelerates 1-2 feels at a very high speed before jerking to a stop. The car is now parked because it is unsafe to drive.
