Leaving my driveway I partially ran over a small tree stump, and it seems for no reason sudden acceleration occurred, I quickly applied my foot to the brake but even without my foot on the gas pedal, the car propelled like a race horse coming out of the gate. And even after applying the brakes the car did not slow down until I steered into woods to stop the car. I am not sure if driving over the small stump had any bearing on the sudden acceleration, but even the application of the breaks would not either stop the car from accelerating out of control or stop the car from hitting the tree.

On 12/4/2015, experienced sluggish response when pressing accelerator, then sudden unintended acceleration and surging forward at high speed, causing speed of car to be totally unpredictable with a steady foot on the accelerator. Braking did slow and stop the car. Took car immediately to Toyota dealer. They replaced the ecu (electronic control unit) at a cost of $900. About 10 weeks later, the exact same thing happened again. Driving to work on the freeway that day, acceleration was sluggish and unpredictable. Parked car at work, and then after backing up in the parking area to leave, the car again was sluggish on acceleration, and then began to surge forward unpredictably, out of my control, with no increase in pressure on the accelerator. Again, the brakes functioned to slow or stop the car. I pulled over and called the Toyota dealer, who advised I could bring it in that evening. No surging was noticed when car was in park. I had a harrowing drive to the dealership during rush hour, keeping a long distance behind the cars in front of me to avoid hitting anyone. Acceleration was very sluggish when merging or starting up again after a red light turned green, and once I began moving ahead, the unpredictable surging and slowing began again and continued until I stopped at the next light, etc. They have had the car ten days and have been unable to replicate the problem. I now need to return the loaner, and drive the defective car again. No floor mats were in place. I can only hope my husband, children or I are not involved in a serious accident in the event this happens again, which I fully expect. How can Toyota and NHTSA determine there is no problem with these cars when there are hundreds of complaints in this record, and people have been killed and injured as a result of problems with unintended acceleration in these vehicles?.

When left foot is momentarily left on brake while depressing accelerator with right foot acceleration begins then stops for several seconds causing a real safety issue. Toyota admitted they have a program built into the Camry to offset "sudden acceleration" issue. So, they admitted they eliminated a major issue while creating another issue. Toyota's logic is ridiculous. They are idiots!!!.

3 instances of unintended acceleration, the last while parallel parking on a busy small town street with pedestrians present. A severe accident that could have easily caused pedestrian or driver injury was avoided only by quick reflex application of the brakes and a shift of the gear into neutral. The first incident occurred while entering a major highway via an access road. The engine suddenly took off and returned to normal operation after brake application and a downshift to neutral. The third event occurred occurred a few weeks before the final event, while backing out of a parking spot. Unintended acceleration similar to the other two incidents likewise occurred. After the final incident, the car was taken to the local Toyota dealership where assurances from their engineers that the car was " safe to drive" rang hollow, given that a number of deaths caused by unintended Toyota acceleration had been reported in recent previous years. Although I didn't record specific dates when the incidents happened, the final one occurred in the fall of '15 and the car has not been on the road since for fear of injury to myself, family or others. As the car lease concludes ( the monthly payments have been dutifully paid since the final incident) I write this to have it on record that I consider the car to be unsafe and that I want Toyota (given their seeming lack of concern about the original complaint) to be held responsible should the car be simply passed on to a new owner or lessee and another unintended acceleration occur, causing injury.

I was driving on a high speed. There was a red light so I tried to hit the brake pedal. But by doing that I the car had a sudden accelerate and the brake pedal went all the way down to the floor and the brake power is super weak. I was lucky that the car stopped right behind the car in front of me so no accident happened. I drive my car to a local brake shop, they inspected the whole system and tell me that they can't find anything wrong there. It was really scary to feel that your car is not controlled by yourself.

When backing out of the driveway the car suddenly accelerated and at a high rate of speed shot across the street hitting the curb blowing the tires and hitting a telephone pole and tore up the neighbors lawn before coming to a stop due to the lack of traction. My wife was stepping on the brakes and the car continued to accelerate. We had owned the car for 5 years and never had any issue with it. I looked and the mat had not moved in any way to impede the foot pedal. We contacted Toyota and let them examine the vehicle and the reply said it was due to an aftermarket floor mat. They did not reveal what the computer data recorded. They refused to acknowledge it could of been anything else.

I went to a local store to shop. I was attempting to park in the store lot, saw a space close to the front of the store. I slowed down to start turning (maybe 5-10 mph) into the parking space and when I tried to brake, my brake pedal went straight to the floor and the car started speeding up. It kept going like someone else had control of the car! I couldn't stop it and it ran into a car that was parked in front of the space. It pushed the other car completely out of the parking spot and rammed her car in the front area. We both suffered vehicle damage and I was charged. There was smoke coming out from under my car and as I was attempting to stop my runaway car, my foot slipped onto the accelerator. I thought maybe my brakes had given out but the officer said the brakes were not bad. There were skid marks showing I tried to stop and I was able to drive it home, very slowly. I was so scared!! I remember seeing a segment on tv about Toyota having problems regarding sudden acceleration in some of their cars.

The vehicle was turning into a parking space with the brake on. Suddenly the vehicle lunged forward and went through the glass front of a bank building, landing in the vestibule. The accident data provided by the inspector hired by Toyota clearly shows that at the time the brake pedal was depressed. When the brake was applied the acceleration increased from . 78 to 2. 27 and the engine rpms increased from 400 to 2000. When the brake was released at the time of the accident, the acceleration rate returned to . 78 and the rpms dropped to 1600. Toyota says they found no mechanical problems with the car and insists that both the accelerator and brake were pressed at the same time, which was not the case. This was not the first time the vehicle accelerated unexpectedly, but at the time we didn't realize that there might be a problem with the car. We feel Toyota doesn't want to take responsibility for this issue and are concerned that this might happen again. As a result, my wife is now afraid to ride in the car.
