Front end making rubbing and clicking noise while driving in reverse with the wheel turned; does not happen while driving forward and does not happen when the wheels are straight. I've had it in the service department of cramer Toyota twice. Both times they say the noise is coming from the plastic wheel well rubbing. The first time they replaced a bolt and now they have removed one of the covers. While trying to determine where the noise is coming from the front struts were discovered as leaking by tire kingdom. I returned the vehicle to cramer Toyota and explained the struts are leaking and they agreed. When asked if this was normal for a vehicle with only 50,123 miles I was told "it is not common, but not unheard of. " this was the exact same answer I was given for my cracked and leaking battery which was discovered the first time I had it in for the noise. I have never had to replaced the struts in a new vehicle before. . . Why should Toyota Camry's be any different? it appears this is a defect the manufacturer does not want to own up to. Toyota wants $850 to replace the front parts only. Tire kingdom, who discovered the problem while rotating and balancing my tires, wants $600 to replace the front parts only, but suggests the back be done at the same time for even where on all four sides. How many complaints does it take to get action with regards to a vehicle defect?.

2007 Toyota Camry se, there is a looseness and clunking noise from the steering wheel. This happens when the wheel is turned from left to right ( stopped) and driving at low city speeds. Had the car to the dealer multiple times for this incident and it could be duplicated in front of the service adviser and technician. . After attempting to repair no fix was done. A district Toyota rep was dispatched to tell me this was normal for the car. Not able to accept the answer given, I made a service appointment with another Toyota dealer to have my car checked. Deja vu. . . Service writer hears the noise, get a technician to confirm the noise on a test drive. Both confirm the noise in the front end of the vehicle. Make an appointment, applies service bulletin:00207, did not fix problem. Called Toyota district rep, indicates again this is the nature of this model. . . . . . Please help !!.

There is a clunking noise coming from the steering wheel when my car loaded with 4 people.
It appears that a good portion of Camry and solara (both cars share same platform) owners are experiencing a clunking noise that occurs in the front. What does it take for NHTSA to extend the power of consumers to get Toyota to admit to its fault, and take full responsibility?

given that the massive amount of 1997-2001 Camry's sold, I am confident that there are many frustrated owners who wish to have this problem resolved at the expense of Toyota motor sales. Some owners have experienced the problem early, within the 3yr/36k mi. Warranty period, while others are left in the cold to pay about $300 to pay for the repairs. Considering that this is a manufacturers defect and not primarily wear and tear, I believe Toyota motors corporation has the obligation to extend its warranty to address this issue. Under what circumstances can the NHTSA do to protect consumers against design flaws and defects such as this one?.
