Dashboard Crack Problems of Toyota Camry - part 1

2009 Toyota Camry. Consumer writes in regards to several cracks in dashboard. The consumer stated the dashboard became sticky and shiny. The shiny service causes a blinding glare. The consumer was not made aware of the extended warranty that had expired.

On March 26,2020 I went to drive my car. The dashboard was cracked, sticky, and melted throughout. The next day I called priority Toyota and was told (john service manager) that they would not fix it due to the warranty enhancement notification-ze6 which ended may 31, 2017. Also, I had owned the car for more than 10 years. He would replace it at my cost of approx. $2200 but he would provide an exact amount when I decided to fix it. Then I explored the internet to see the scope of the problem. It can lead to visibility problems (glare) and problems with the dashboard airbags. Yesterday, April 7, 2020 I called the Toyota customer assistance center 1-888-2709371 and spoke to randall who repeated what john had said, but added that my car was old and not worth much and I had gotten my monies worth out of it. I asked who I could call next and he said he was the end of the line. I was assigned a case # 2004071847 but can't see to read it for myself. The car has remained in my garage since I saw the problem on March 26. It is getting worse. It was last driven on March 5 with no problems. I have a Toyota rav 2017 from priority Toyota, hampton, va 757 838-5000. Please help me if you can.

The back rear window has air bubbles that make it difficult to see out the window. The doors on the passenger side leaks water when it is raining causing the inside on the passanger side of the vehilcle to become wet. Their is a warning light that is illuminated however, the contact is unsure what the warning light indicates. We just bought this car for my daughter yesterday evening from a Toyota dealer in FL. I saw a shiny blemish on the dashboard up by the left front speaker and the salesman told us the dash was probably damaged by cleaning agents. I realized today after the car was in the sun that the whole dash was soft and sticky like it was melting and was causing a very blinding glare when facing certain directions with the sun. The dash is so shiny that it also reflects on the windshield. The whole dash feels like a fly trap and to me seems very dangerous when driving becaus of the obstuction of due to glare. I've been reading online and apparently I'm not the only one experiencing this problem with a melting dashboard, nor is it limited to Toyota. It seems to be a manufactured parts defect and should be handled or recalled by the car manufacture. . There also seems to be a smell the hotter it gets in the car and I dont know if its the plastic in the dash or if it could be potentially harmful. Please help. Thank you!.

2009 Toyota Camry se driver side top of dashboard melting making a crack about 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch. It looks like a patch on the dashboard compared to approximately the size of an adult hand. The melting area gets worst with the heat and lifting up with an uneven bump on the dashboard. Note: vehicle was not involved on any accidents 9/30/2014.

We have a 2006 Toyota solara which has a cracked dash board with a sticky substance oozing out. The car is garaged and in great condition otherwise. It was not in any accidents or were any unknown materials applied to the dash. I feel this is a recall item, especially since there are complaints around the globe with the Toyota dashes. Hopefully this will not effect the airbag components. Please advise what my next steps should be.

Car parked in sun, dashboard material getting very sticky/gooey. If touched, it gets damaged. It shows a very shiny appearance when hot ( like if you used a tire shine on it), on sunny days it creates a lot of glare on the windshield affecting visibility. Dash cannot be wiped with anything because it is very sticky and gooey. I can accept dashboard damage on a 10year plus car, but not on a 4 year old car. This is clearly a material defect and it prompts for a recall. Specially because of the glare on the front windshield the dash creates when it is very hot. Lots of people complaining of this in many internet forums. Hopefully they will fill out a complain to get this matter resolved by Toyota.

A month after I purchased from a dealer the dash began cracking by the steering wheel, around the ignition and on the glove box trim. I took it to a interior trim specialist and said he has seen dozens of this model with the identical program. It begins as a small crack and then spreads like a spider web. It is a beautiful car that is not resellable with this problem.

All of a sudden, the dashboard on my solar became sticky and started to crack in multiple spots. After doing a little research online, I learned that the solara and other Toyota models had issues with the dashboards. I learned that my issues was not isolated. Countless other Toyota owners were reporting the same issue online. Shortly after learning this, I took my solara to my local Toyota dealership for assistance and was told "there is nothing we can do for you". Toyota acknowledged and recognized the issue with my dashboard - even made mention of customers with the same issue - yet refused to take any action. In summary, I was told by Toyota that the repair cost of my damaged dashboard - despite their knowledge of the poor quality materials used in its construction - would not be coved by Toyota. Additionally, I was told that the cost of a replacement dashboard would cost as much as $2000 and that the new dash my in fact also show signs of cracking shortly after installation. How can Toyota ignore this matter when so many other owners too have reported this matter.

I am only owner of this Toyota, it is garaged or has sun visors in place. I am experiencing the same cracked/cracking dash as others. There is absolutely no reason for this to occur. I too wonder what is going to happen if ever my air bags deploy. The cracking so far is on the passenger side dash. This started either in fall of 2012. Five years ago Toyota replaced all the defective vinyl window moldings on the car without my request. This show they may have a problem with their vinyl supplier. A local Toyota dealer, earl stewart Toyota, north palm beach, FL has requested Toyota make a no charge recall. This also is a problem with Lexus and Nissan vehicles. In the past few years Toyota has been able to conceal or been very slow to address known defects. I trust your agency can make Toyota comply with a speedy recall with no charge to the owners. I have a garage kept convertible and recently the entire dash has cracked above the steering wheel (from left side all the way to the right side). Also above the glove compartment it is cracked. There are thousands of people complaining about this same issue on google. Com (I entered solara cracked dash). I took it in to my local Toyota dealership and they said "no recall on this item and they handed me a repair estimate of approx. $2200". Next I filed a complaint with Toyota and their answer was "there is no recall and no assistance on the repair will be given at this time". I would like to see the government take some action on this vehicle defect. Also please tell me if a class action lawsuit has been filed that I can join. Thank you.
