2 Trunk Lid problem of the 2013 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

Trunk lid wont hold up. It easily collapses if car is parked on the slightest of incline or is hit with a slight breeze. The trunk has collapses on my head several times while unloading groceries. My concern is the trunk lid closing on a toddler. My other two Camrys, year 2001 and 2003, do not have that problem. Those older Camrys seem to have stronger torsion bars and/or hinges and/or holding mechanisms. Toyota dealership tells me they found nothing wrong with the trunk lid and its mechanism.

4 Trunk Lid problem of the 2002 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 12/14/2012

On December 14, 2012, at about 7:20 am, my spouse, elaine s. David got into the driver's seat of the above described 2002 Toyota Camry, which was parked on our driveway. After fastening her seat belt and then checking behind to make sure our street was free of pedestrians and bike riders, my spouse placed her right foot firmly on the brake and shifted the automatic transmission lever from "park" to "reverse" the Toyota Camry instantly accelerated backwards at a high rate of speed. And hit a tree on my across the street neighbor's lawn, fortunately, the car stopped before hitting my neighbor's garage door because the passenger side front wheel dug itself into the lawn and the front wheel drive lost traction in a manner similar to what one expect when one drives into heavy snow. The total time elapsed during the sudden unintended acceleration was less than two seconds. The distance travelled during the sudden unintended acceleration was extremely short. The tree was located about 57 feet from the rear end of the car and the total distance that the car travelled was only 72 feet. . My spouse was terrified by the experience but, fortunately, she was not physically injured. I had to call aaa to come with a tow truck. Aaa extracted the car from the lawn's soft earth by the use of a chain attached to the back of the truck. The trunk lid was severely damaged and the parking paw within the transaxle assembly was broken. . I am a retired nys professional engineer. I can prove that the sua incident was caused by a defect in the firmware (software) in the electronic control module within the Camry. I filed a 48 page brief objecting to the us court recent Toyota economic loss lawsuit. It is available on the pacer system. I specifically requested that all 2002 through 2006 Toyota Camry cars be recalled by Toyota and equipped with applicable brake override systems. .

5 Trunk Lid problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 08/17/2012

I recently purchase a new Toyota Camry xle. I wish to report a condition that exists in the design of the mechanism which holds the trunk lid in the upright position while unloading or loading articles into or outof the trunk my experience is as follows: I have put items into the trunk on occasion (its a new car), and it has always been on a level surface. Once while I had raised the trunk lid in my garage it dropped done and I was able to stop it and put it back up. There is a full upright position for the trunk lid which I would assume that is the most secure position. However it is a position that is rather high to reach (I am 5' 11" tall. ) it is a stretch for me. I would assume that a person of a smaller height or a child would be not able to reach this position for safety. I recently came back from the store and parked in front my home on a slight inclined driveway and opened the trunk lid to what I was use to in my garage which was level. W\hen I reached in to remove the groceries the trunk lid fell down with great amount of speed and hit the bridge of my dose. It missed my glasses by an eighth of an inch but knocked them off. I put my hand to my nose and it was bleeding and spent the next hour trying to stopped the bleeding since I am on aspirin therapy. We ended up going to the emg. Room to see if I needed stitches. It ended up being a deep abrasion so they put some colliod material on raise up the scab to have less scaring. Had my glasses shattered I would probably received more severe injuries. They wanted to do an mri exam to see if I had other injuries which I declined because of my medical work experience, l did not feel the extra cost for the mri was justified, but would have been an extra expense for someone who would not know the what value of the test in a similar situation. Contacted Toyota, less than helpful. Prevent further injuries.

6 Trunk Lid problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/19/2012

This is a rental vehicle provided by lia Toyota northampton, MA. I had been shopping and opened and close the trunk lid several times. When I returned home I parked in my driveway which has an upward slant to it. I opened the trunk lid and removed three bags of groceries from the trunk before the trunk lid closed on its own accord striking me in the face just above my nose with enough force to cause facial bleeding and a prolonged headache. A slight difference in where I was standing could have resulted in my passing out or more damage to my person. It appears that the pneumatics do not have enough strength to hold up the trunk lid on other than a flat surface. A child could lose fingers or a limb if the trunk lid closed in this manner on them.

7 Trunk Lid problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

A short time after I took delivery of the car and I parked it on my driveway which has a small climb to the garage. The car was parked with the rear end lower than the front. When I opened the trunk to unload it and released the trunk lid it came down and hit me in the head. It happens every time when the trunk is opened under the same conditions and sometimes when the car is level. Obviously the trunk lid needs a tighter spring.

8 Trunk Lid problem of the 2008 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/07/2012

The trunk has a defective design, upon opening the trunk with the remote and then lifting the trunk lid, the trunk lid does not fully open. This resulted in my head hitting the trunk lid a causing a cut to my head and a mild concussion. I believe that the springs in the trunk do not have enough force to open the trunk fully.

10 Trunk Lid problem of the 2009 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/04/2009

Every week, I use a cooler (standard size) for groceries and put the cooler in the trunk of my Camry. Whenever I make sharp turns, the lid of the trunk would pop open, probably because the cooler hits the latch inside the trunk. I consider it quite dangerous because items might fall out of the trunk if it's open. To mitigate the problem, we place pieces of cardboard around the cooler to prevent it from sliding around. We took it back to the Toyota dealer and they said this is the first time they have heard of this and there is nothing they can do about it. We use coolers all the time and never had this problem with other vehicles. Please investigate the issue. Thank you.

11 Trunk Lid problem of the 2000 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 08/06/2007

Original ignition key will not start car. Has been difficult for about a month. Luckily it totally failed in my own driveway. We just returned from a long trip. Same thing happened to trunk lock 2 years ago. I had to pay about $250. 00 to have it fixed at my dealer. Expect larger bill for ignition. Dealer will not order new ignition lock until I have it towed in. Bought car at same dealer. Locks seem to be a weak point on this model Toyota. Can I get help from somebody?.
