Drove car on interstate & when reached approx. 60 mph, felt vibration & a shuddering; prepared to pull over but before I could do so, the right front tire exploded, as I literally watched my right front end come apart before my eyes; could hardly control steering but managed to pull off road to safety. After I had stopped, I got out & saw the whole tread of the tire in the road, along with parts of my car all over the place. I could have been killed! I called my husband who put spare tire on & I slowly drove it home & car died repeatedly during the drive we used battery cables to jumpstart, over & over again until we got it home & parked it. The next day the car would not start at all. I had the car towed (out of pocket) to local dealers service dept. (b'ham, al). Service man had to replace entire engine harness due to the harness being ripped out through the right front head light/pass front fender (about 3 feet ripped off). Service manager said he had never seen anything like this & that I should report it & try to have tire company pay for damages, etc. Engine harness destroyed, estimated cost $1890. 50 to repair (not including body work which is estimated to be anywhere from another $1,500 to $2,000 in damages). The fender, front headlight and bumper will have to be replaced completely. I've made some arrangements to go ahead & get vehicle running, paying the costs of $1890. 50 to get the car running again; again out of my own pocket. I can supply your office with a copy of the service manager's estimate & analogy of what happened to cause damages. I don't have the money to get vehicle completely restored & feel all damages should be reimbursed due to the faulty tire. Needless to say, I'm lucky to be alive since I could hardly control the car when it happened. Thank god the other drivers on the road saw me or it could have caused a multiple car accident, as many cars were traveling all lanes. I was in the middle lane & had to cross over the right lane to exit.
Whitaker sales sent me on the road with no lights, no spare tire and no jack. They sold me a 2000 Toyota Camry and said no damage but I question this. I questioned the flat tire and the lights . They said things were fine . I will explain more by sending disclosures of the vehicle if you want.

: the contact stated the vehicle was parked for 8 hours in 70 degree sunny weather, and the spare tire in the trunk over inflated and burst. The spare tire was used 2 weeks prior with no problems. The tire incident caused only minor damage to the trunk; however the audio speakers were destroyed.

I purchased four new bridgestone "potenza re900" tires for my 1999 Toyota Camry le sedan from costco wholesale (72800 dinah shore dr, palm desert, CA 92211 (760) 202-1362) in early may. Two weeks later while driving to morning church (approx. 45 mph) I heard a large "boom" and discovered the left rear tire had exploded. I drove to the nearest gas station where they installed the same model spare tire. I returned to costco and they replaced the spare with a new bridgestone potenza re900 tire. Last Saturday evening about 6:00pm (June 21, 2003) while driving home to palm springs on highway 10 at approximately 55 mph, I heard another loud noise and discovered another bridgestone potenza re900 tire had exploded. Luckily, someone stopped and replaced it with the spare so I could get home. Again, I returned to costco where they replaced it with another bridgestone potenza re900 tire. In my opinion, costco's manager, aware of the problems with this particular tire should have: 1. Immediately pulled them from the inventory so that this model could not be sold to other customers 2. Reported this costco management. . . Who, immediately, should have pulled them from the inventory of every store 3. Reported this incident to bridgestone/firestone 4. Reported this incident to the NHTSA. What should be my next recourse of action? I look forward to receiving a prompt response concerning this very serious matter. Sincerely, mildred madsen. 1370 adobe way palm springs, CA 92262 email: madsenem@aol. Com phone: (760) 323-4683.
The rear tire blew out, when the rear tire was to be changed, it was discovered the spare tire was not compatible for the vehicle.
My 2002 Toyota Camry when the steering is turned sharply there is a popping noise every time. This manufactured product has a problem. The cruise control sticks at current speed. One of the bose speakers that has a lifetime warranty that was installed by the manufacturer is busted.

Full size spare tire was overinflated to about 50 psi. This general hp 400 tire maximum pressure rating printed on tire wall is 44 psi. The owner's manual indicated tire should be inflated to 32 psi. It is a safety issue if tire explodes in trunk or fails on the road.
