4 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 11/18/2012

My 2012 Camry se has recently began to have tire pressure warnings. I took the vehicle to the dealer where I purchased it and was assured that it was only the change in temperature that was causing the warning light to come on. The dealer adjusted the tire pressures and released the vehicle. The next day the problem returned indicating that a different tire was the cause (a different icon on the display). I returned to the dealer and was again insured that it was only the change in temperature that was causing the warning light to come on. This time the dealer adjusted the tire pressures over the recommended pressures to try to compensate for the temperature changes, being in southern California I felt this was not a very valid assessment but left it to the dealer to adjust the tire pressures again. One week went by and again the warning light was on and again a third icon was illuminated and the warning light was on. I returned to the dealer and they took the car into the service bay. The tech told me that indeed one tire was low and that he had removed the tire, checked it completely by dunking it in a water tank but could not find any air leaking. The dealer adjusted the tire pressure for the third time and increased the air pressure even more than the last time. So after three trips to the dealer they insured me that nothing was wrong with the sensing system, the temperature change must be causing the warning light, one tire was leak tested with no leak results and I was sent home again with the tires inflated 3 to 4 psi over the recommended manufacturers setting. I was told that if it happened again to bring it back and they would need the car for the day to try to figure out what the issue is with the vehicle. I drive around worried about getting a flat or a tire or wheel failing while I'm driving. The tires are michelin primacy mxv4 p215-55-r17 on alloy rims.

5 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 05/07/2011

The tire pressure warning sensor is constantly illunimated on my dash board, despite having correct pressure in all tires on the car including the spare. It is a distraction. Took my car to the local Toyota deal and they inform me that the problem is traced to malfunctioning tire pressure sensors. Given the recalls on Toyota cars/trucks on calibration problems with tire pressure sensors and the fact that Toyota manufactures common parts for all vehicles such as these tire pressure sensors, I believe they are defective parts. My vehicle is a 2007 Toyota Camry with a v-6 engine manufactured in April 2007. Further compounding the problem is that Toyota representative attribute fault to the us government saying, "it's a government mandate for us to have these sensors on our cars". Ridicous.

6 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2008 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 04/25/2011

I purchased bridgestone turanza tires from Toyota in December 2010. Today, 4/25/2011, while driving at 65 or 70 mph (no debris or potholes) the tire failed and caused a blowout. Tire's dot number: obx8pm6-3710. 215/60r16 only about 5000 miles had been driven since the tire was first installed. Went to dealer and replaced the tire for free. Toyota did not know why the tire failed, but both road side assistance and the dealer did not find any evidence of puncture or road related damaged. This is not a Toyota issue, but I believe that bridgestone should do a recall if its tires are failing after only about 5000 miles. I have 3 of the same tires plus the replacement turanza tire on my car which I am extremely uneasy about now. I would like to see an investigation into this matter by bridgestone and govt regulatory agencies. I am very lucky that I wasn't killed today.

7 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

8 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2008 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 09/15/2010

Premature wear of all 4 bridgestone tires with approximately 13,000-14, 000 miles. Tread was significantly below regulatory limits, but not bald, yet the mileage was very low. All tires had been regularly rotatated (approx. Every 4,000 miles), and when tested were in alignment. Contacted the Toyota dealership, which stated that they only warranty tires for 12,000 miles, or 1 year. Then contacted bridgestone and was given a case number, and an appointment with the local firestone dealership. The gentleman at firestone confirmed that the tires were abnormally worn and made a recommendation to his boss that at least 3 of 4 tires be replaced at no cost to me. The next day, I returned and at first the manager was somewhat difficult, but after he had insisted on testing the alignment and finding that it was close to perfect, his tone changes and he couldn't have been nicer. He authorized the replacement of all tires, which had to be ordered, as Toyota only permits substitutions with the same, or one grade lower speed rating, and the dealership did not have v-rated tires in stock, but the next day I once again returned and one hour later drove away with brand new tires. N. B. If you do not regularly rotate, balance, and if-needed align your tires, bridgestone/firestone will not replace.

9 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2009 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

I had to replace the tires on my 2009 Camry at around 25,000 miles. The low pressure tire light came on after I had just had it serviced. The master mechanic at work check the tire pressure and each tire was 8 - 10 pounds low on pressure. I took it to Toyota in north augusta, SC and the rude service manager told me that when I had it serviced a top technical signed off as rotating and airing the tires and that had it been another technician he might believe they didn't air the tires. He only aired the tires, didn't check valve stems or for tire defects. The light kept coming on and I went back a couple more times I believe. He finally determined making the statement "this is common. Since it was my second Camry I disagreed with him and then he responded "it is common in this model". He said you could drive out of here right not and it might come on again. . . . . I replied "I'm not buying this and left". The light did come back on within the week or two. I looked at my front tires and was shocked! the front tires were worn out with hardly no tread left on them. I immediately took it to a tire dealer and replaced the "firestone bridgestone" tires with another brand of tire. . . . . . . . . . . That has been nearly 5,000 ago and the light has never turned on. There is a definite defect here with the car of tire dealer. Tires should last a long longer than 20,000 to 25,000 miles on a new car especially. If others are experiencing this problem, Toyota needs to be reimbursing car owners for replacement tires. . . . Maybe they purchased defective parts at a low cost just like they did with the brakes. . . . Had I not taken care of the tire problem it could have resulted in a blow out and endangering of my life and others. The service manager was extremely rude and did not make any attempt to research for an existing problem, which became evident after a few trips in there. His and Toyota's disregard for safety has really changed my opinion of Toyota.

10 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2005 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 06/17/2009

We were driving home from lancaster, CA to ventura, CA. While driving we heard a strange noise and then my husband (who was driving) said the car was difficult to steer. As quickly and safely as we could we got to an offramp. We had a flat on the left front tire. During my call to aaa, my husband decided he would change the tire so I cancelled the request for service. Getting back on the freeway we heard the same noise that we had heard earlier so we pulled off the freeway again and saw that we had another flat tire, this was on the rear right. I called aaa and they had to tow us to ventura (approximately 40 miles) since we used the spare tire for the 1st flat. When we got to the sears automotive center, they told us that there had been a recall on the tire valves on our tires which we had purchased from sears on July 18, 2007. One other comment - on may 6, 2009, the front right tire went flat at my work place; aaa put the spare on and then we brought it into sears to have it repaired. They said there was a nail in it - no mention of tire valve problems.

11 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2005 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) I purchased a certified used Toyota car (vehicle VIN: [xxx]) on 12/22/2008 from fremont Toyota dealer ([xxx]), which leads a nightmare as it's a wrecked cert. Rejected car with 2 tire valve stems broken on day 1 and day 8 after purchase and another 2 tires flat again on may 10 1. The rear right tire valve stem broke on 12/23/2008 (the first day after purchase) and the tire pressure monitoring system indicator (tpws) was on so I drove the car to the service department on 12/24/2008. Dealer claim they fixed the problem and also checked all the other tires and make sure they are working. 2. On 1/1/2009, the front right tire valve stem broke again and the tpws was not on. This happened when we drove on highway 5 at 75 miles/hour and we don't even know the tire already 2/3 was flattened!! we happened to look for restaurant at that time and a person coming out of restaurant pointed to us this flat tire! if we did not exit for rest, all 5 passengers in the car could no longer be in this world now. 3. Further complete discovery on this car reveals: a. Bondo was applied on the following areas: left fender on rear behind wheel opening area; right door from upper center to bottom of door; and, rt quarter panel in front of wheel opening area the amount of bondo applied to the subject vehicle, clearly indicates the damage/wreck/repair in these areas were extensive. B. Sand scratched and dirt under paint are obvious in many areas, this is the result of a poor quality re-paint job. The re-paint of the vehicle is further evidenced by the paint mil gauge readings from 8 miles to 12 miles. This matches kearny mesa Toyota's 160 point rejection. C. The paint job alone estimate (not including the body repair) was over $2200 and yet was this re-paint was not reported. The faulty paint job is a known defect to anyone that looks at the vehicle in the automotive industry. D. The right fender was previously removed. And more.

13 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 05/07/2008

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact noticed that the tire pressure warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel. He took the vehicle to a tire dealer and they replaced the cpms valves and all four tires. After the repair was made, the tire pressure regulator system light was still illuminated on the instrument control panel. He took the vehicle to a Toyota dealer, but they could not diagnose the cause of the failure. The Toyota dealer stated that the most likely explanation was because of an improper installation of the valve sensors. The vehicle has not been repaired because it has not been properly diagnosed. The failure and current mileages were 50,000.

14 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2008 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 10/01/2007

2008 Toyota hybrid Camry--from the date of purchase in October, 2007 I have experienced surging when I use cruise control and go up an incline or hill. I have accepted this as normal but now am wondering if I have a problem with my accelerator. My understanding is that the hybrid is not on the list of recalls. Can you check this out for me. I am also reminded that I had a defective tire replaced within the first year. Thank you.

15 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 08/14/2007

Tire pressure monitoring system. Constant arguing/disagreement between dealer, me, and Toyota corporate about how this system works/is supposed to work. Dealer suspects my tire people damage the sensor. I am inclined to think either the system doesn't work properly/consistently or the dealer mechanic doesn't understand how to program the sensor codes. Dealer has contacted their Toyota support for clarification and learned lots from them because of my persistence and continued malfunctions. In a nutshell, the monitoring will not report a pressure problem unless the car has been driven 20+ miles in a single start. I only go over 20 miles in a single engine start about every three months. So, it seems like the monitoring system is not processing the available information in such a way that is reliable/meaningful. Further, if there is an accident, I don't know if this data is a recorded element in the black box feature of the car (how fast, seat belt use, other driving interpretations). If it is, how can that data element be considered as a potential factor (or not) if the monitoring system itself does cannot be trusted if driving less than 20 miles in any single engine start?? I do have different sensors in my summer and winter tires; my recently remounted winter tires (on their own wheels) worked fine until I drove over 20 miles last week. Back to the dealership, to argue about the monitoring system, receiver, sensors, and my tire guys.

16 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2000 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 06/08/2007

Complaint against costco automobile tires: purchased 4 costco tires in 2006. They were filled with nitrogen. Not told that all air must be nitrogen air put in tires. Filled tired with regular air. Major car problems with shaking of steering and fumes and smell and tires hot to touch. Told by mechanic that when I put in air in nitrogen filled costco tires it caused a chemical reaction. Major safety issue. Thankful I was lucky, but who will be the next victim and will they be so lucky? something needs to be done to hold costco accountable for filling tires with nitrogen as it is a safety issue. They should fill with air as with industry standard.

17 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 05/12/2007

While driving home from work I ran over a nail that punctured the driver's side rear tire ,causing it to deflate slowly. When the tire was completly flat, and I noticed the shaking and sluggish handling, I pulled over to inspect. My tire pressure sensor did not work ,and did not notify me of the problem. After getting back into the car the tire pressure sensor came on, but only while parked and with a completly flat tire. The money spent on this safety feature, in my opinion, was useless.
