Failure Date: 04/03/2004

Purchased four new dunlop sp sport a2 p195/70r14 tires at 36,157 miles on 05/10/02 from Toyota dealer in jacksonville, florida. On April 2, 2004, in preparation for a trip to tallahassee, florida (approximately 180 miles), all four tires were checked and each had 32 psi air pressure. On April 3, 2004 (approximate odometer reading 55,000) upon arrival in tallahassee, discovered one of the tires mounted on the left rear was partially deflated and was undergoing separation at three different locations on the sidewall. We took the car to discount tire company, 1507 killean center boulevard, tallahassee (phone 850-894-8473) for replacement of the tire. We were told that the partial deflation was caused by a tire defect that resulted in the side wall separation. Was fortunate that the tire did not fail at highway speed (70 mph). Dunlop through the dunlop website.

26 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2002 Toyota Camry

The tires on my 2002 Camry came with the purchase of the vehicle and had only 18,000 miles. The bridgestone/firestone inspector upon examination of the tire denied it was defective.

If you would like to see evidence of this, we will provide photos of what is left. We believe that this should be investigated and or recalled.

28 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2001 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 10/12/2002

I have a safety concern with my 2001 Toyota Camry purchased through ira Toyota in danvers mass. The tires pulled to rhe left and squealed going around corners. I kept checking tire pressure to see if that was the cause, no. In October I took the car in to have the tires rotated at dube Toyota in dover, nh. The car had a little over 19,000 miles on it. I was asked into the service area to look at the tires because they were very worn. The front tires were very worn on both the inside and outside edges, the cording was visible. The rear tires were worn evenly. Started the complaint process with ira Toyota. The service manager at bill dube talked with the district representative about financial assistance in replacing the tires. I replaced the front tires immediately. Had alignment checked. Called Toyota customer service and spoke with christina woods who initiated my claim/complaint I called again after a couple of weeks and spoke to another person, was told to send in all my work orders/paid receipts and they would reimburse us for four new tires and the wheel alignment. I had the rear tires replaced. District representative said he could reimburse us for two tires. When he was informed that Toyota customer service said they would pay for all four he apparently became livid, called Toyota to complain because they had usurped his authority. Neither party will now reimburse us for any tires. My concern at this time is the safety issue. During many conversations with Toyota and the dealer they told me that this is a common occurrence with Camrys. The tires are manufactured with very soft sidewalls (reason for the squealing) to improve ride. The sidewalls collapse on corners causing excessive wear, especially on the edges. If they are now using inferior tires where else have they cut corners or used inferior material that might well affect the safety of the vehicle. Trying to warn everyone I can about the potential safety problems.

29 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2002 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 09/07/2002

The tires were on the Toyota when purchased. The driver's front tire failed as my wife was driving on the 101 northbound for sun city. There were several large holes in the side wall. The dealer stated that this could be due to low tire pressure. However, the pressure in the tires were checked within the seven days of the tire failure---at least we were told that they had been checked as part of the service we paid for. The full tire size number was p205/65/r15 92t---more numbers than allowed in the previous blank. If low air pressure could cause this type of damage on a tire, then it seems to me that regulations should require greater tolerance in tire pressure. Nlm.

30 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2002 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 08/06/2002

On hwy car pulled left. After canadian trip brought car to dealer who rotated tires & did alignment. Car still pulled left. Returned to dealer who rotated left fron tire. Car still pulled left. Brought to dealer 3rd. Time and shop foreman said it was "tire kineticism". Dealer removed tire from rim, inverted tire, and remounted and balanced tire. Dealer test drove and said no more pull. When asked who would pay for future inverting of tire during 5 wheel rotation dealer could not answer. Spoke to Toyota reginal spervisor who test drove car and said right rear out of alignment. I requested michelin tire upgrade and would split difference in cost with Toyota. Toyota said alignment and inverting tire would solve problem. Toyota never responded to query who pays cost of re- inverting one tire and inverting another tire during rotation. I'm concerned for my safety & future rotation costs with these bridgestones. Want upgraded tire replacement & these tires sent back to bridgestone for analysis. I also went to a bridgestone dealer in framingham and they said they never heard of "kinteticism" and tire inverting to resolve alignment problem. I suspect a weak sidewall causing car to pull left and worry about safety. Request dot take prompt investigative action. So far total of 4 visits to dealer who has acknowleged the problem but denies it is a problem. In other words live with it. Dt.
