As I was driving a loud noise came on inside the car my abs light and brake light came on and then my brakes failed almost causing a huge wreck and from what I have read it is the abs accutator or brake accutator which I guess is the same thing but apparently a lot of the Toyota Camry Hybrids are having this issue where the breaks are failing and causing accidents but yet there are no recalls for it and apparently the part cost 2,900 from Toyota which is insane when it should be a recall because it's a major safety issue.

Vehicle was in motion going straight on a city street, and "check vsc system" notification turned on. Brake light, abs light, and (!) all came on. Brakes became shaky when pressed.

Brakes did not activate, went very soft and pushed to the floor. "check vsc system" message, brake light, traction control light, and another light (in attached image) all came on after the brakes gave out. I was able to use the emergency brake to stop the car off the side of the road. Turn the car off and back on. Brakes worked again, but all of the warnings are still on. Also, seems like the it's just regular brakes and anti-lock system is not working.

The hand brake light keeps coming on and off while driving. The car feels like it's coasting and have no traction control. All of the sudden, all lights turn on dashboard and check vsc system comes on, brakes are hard to engage and steering control is difficult. Car drives like that for about 5 minutes and then all goes back to normal. Few days later it starts up again with the break lights coming on and off. It happens during different driving conditions: straight city street, while turning, going down a hill or attempting to come to a stop. This makes it really scary as I am in a very dangerous situation when I am trying to break and the break do not engage and steering control is affected. I have taken it to mechanic after the incidents and they cannot diagnose the issue and there are no failure codes. However, the issue keeps going on making me terrified to drive the car.

On my 2009 Camry Hybrid, as I was going to work, when I tried to slow down the car the brakes went hard and can't stop the car totally I saw the brake light, traction control, and abs lights turned on, and check vsc system displayed. I immediately slow down the car took the exit and stop the car. I turned off the car and start the car again which fixed all the above issues. It happened approx two weeks ago and took the car to Toyota of grapevine TX 76051 and they did not find any issue related to brake or any code. I am scared to drive the car and taking the car to the same dealer to check again.

While driving straight at about 40 mph (in a 50 mph zone on a back road) I stepped on the brakes when approaching a stop sign. The brakes failed to engage. The check vbs system warning came on as well as all of the dash board warning lights. The car was checked and the brake pads were fine, the brake fluid level was normal, and no computer codes came up when that was checked. The brake light keeps coming on and off and the brakes work most of the time, but out of no where they won't engage. It was very scary, especially because my kids were in the car. Thank goodness I wasn't going faster than I was because I don't think we would have stopped in time.

The brakes on my 07 Toyota camry went "soft" and the brake light came on when driving at about 35 mph. I pulled into a parking lot, waited, and the prob. Went away. A few days later, the brake light, traction control and abs lights turned on, and check vsc system displayed when at a red light on a residential area (25mph). I took the to Toyota for the second time, and they said it was an abs issue, actuator and 4 brake fluids. The cost to repair it is $1926. 54. The dealer advised me to call Toyota, which I did, bc there had been problems with braking in 07 and 08 Toyota camrys. Toyota was incredibly unhelpful (this despite my owning two Toyota Camry Hybrids), even though Toyota had issued two extended warranties because of the issues with intermittent loss of assisted braking reported by many customers, the last one through July of 2017. The woman I spoke to insisted that since the car experienced the problem "out of warranty" there is nothing Toyota was willing to do.

The brake light, traction control and abs lights turned on, and check vsc system displayed. Vehicle has been maintained correctly. I was on the hwy going 65 mph, in my 2007 Camry Hybrid when this happened, totally lost power, I was able to pill over to the side road call for help. This is a ridiculous situation for an automobile. I feel like the public is being used like test dummies by Toyota.

On my 2007 Camry Hybrid, as I was reversing, the brakes all of a sudden engaged, braking so hard it felt like I hit something. Soon after, the brake light, traction control and abs lights turned on, and check vsc system displayed. Vsc warning lights and display message intermittently turn off and turn back on arbitrarily.

While driving my car on 40 miles/hour the brake light, abs, skid control, and maintenance light illuminated with a whistling sound too, also the dash board had check the vsc system warning. I was unable to stop the car due to braking system failure, so I pulled over to a close by gas station and stopped by hitting the curb. The car was taken to the dealership, and diagnosed as abs braking actuator system malfunction, and estimated repair cost is $2,200, it was out of the extended warranty by 4 months so I have to pay out of pocket for this particular manufacturer life threatening mistake that could take away my life if I couldn't stop the car. I contacted the Toyota company 3 times they stated they are aware of the malfunction problem, but they have nothing to do with it, as it is not a recall yet, it's only under investigation. I know this happened to many cars of this model. And injuries occurred but Toyota don't want to take full responsibility of their dangerous mistake.

Abs module is constantly cycling . Vcs light and brake light are on. The brakes are soft. The repair is aprox 3k dollars.

Brake light came on, then sudden power braking system failure while driving on a two lane busy road at a curve, there was a ding sound, then simultaneously, a vsc warning message and multiple warning lights illuminated. Only manual braking allowed stoppage of vehicle. Extremely dangerous situation that could have had tragic results .

Driving normal and brake light indicator lights up with vcs message and power brakes fail. This is an intermittent problem on highway or local roads.

For several weeks prior to 10/12/2017, I had been noticing a squeaking noise when depressing the brake to start the car and sometimes when the car was stopped at a light. I brought the car to the venice Toyota dealer on 10/05/2017, and was told that the abs actuator was failing. On 10/12/2017, all of the brake warning lights came on on my dashboard: abs, traction control, etc. , as well as the words "check vsc system. " on 10/13/2017, I had the actuator assembly replaced by venice Toyota, at a cost of $1990. 00. Three years prior, in January 2014, I had already had the actuator assembly replaced due to the very same failure. There were many reports to the NHTSA at that time for the same make vehicles and year range. Several months later Toyota issued a vehicle warranty enhancement for the actuator system, and I was eventually reimbursed by Toyota for that repair. But now it has happened again three years later. Clearly there is still a weakness in the actuator system, and I even wonder if my system was replaced by the exact same unimproved parts. Toyota is unwilling to accept any responsibility for this failure or for its repair. My car has low mileage for its age, currently at 95,000. Also, I only put on 26,700 additional miles since the actuator system first failed 3 years ago.

When I start the car brake light is on and after few minutes message comes as check vsc system and its not going away.

Late evening 1/10/17, while moving at 65mph on I-95, in moderate traffic, my dash lit up and brief alert tone sounded. Indicator read: "check vsc," brakes pulsed & got heavy. Lasted 5 minutes, then alerts cleared. Made a call to have a mechanic take a look on 1/13, however on the evening of 1/12/17 while moving at low speed in a flow of cars, my brakes began clutching up & became very heavy & unresponsive, my dash lit up & a high-pitched alert tone sounded. The brake light, maintenance light & others lit up & dash indicator said "check vsc system. . . Maint required. " when I stepped on the brake, the pedal pushed back, & as I tried to limp it into the parking lot, the brakes constantly engaged. I stopped to wait for a few minutes, & turned the car off but the high-pitched alert continued for several minutes. From inside the car I could hear a whirring noise in the front end, in the area of the tires. I let the vehicle sit for an hour or two, at which point, the alert tone had stopped but the whirring noise continued. I got inside & found the electronics were dim, most were not working. I stepped on the brake & the high-pitched alert tone resumed. Resistant force continued in the brake. I pushed the start button a few times, & eventually the dash lit back up with all of the warning indicators. The car started, but the brakes pulsed as if constantly engaged & occasionally being slammed. In gear, the problems persisted, so I got the car out of the way & turned it off. Alert tone & whir continued, along with a burning kind of smell from the area of the front tires (right front tire well felt warm). It was dark, so I didn't notice if there was smoke of any color. Because I worried that the whirring motor was going to burn up & possibly exacerbate matters, I disconnected the battery & had the car towed to a dealer. I have some videos if they are helpful.

My car Camry Hybrid 2007 have all light master warning light, brake warning light, controlled brake warning, anti-lock brake system, slip indicator light. Also the brake is so hard that I was close to hit car, I call Toyota in orlando,florida but they toll me they don't have any recall and normally is ecu pedal stroke sensor and abs module system, both parts cost is $3,500.

I drove to work in the morning with no warning lights on the car and it operated fine. After leaving work for the day, I pulled out of the parking lot on to the main road and then the brake light, master failure light, abs light and another light lit up on the dash and I pushed the brake to stop the vehicle to figure out what was going on and the brake did not stop the car, so I push the brake as hard as I could to get it to stop and it stuttered about 10 times before coming to a complete stop. I then called a tow truck to take the car to the dealership because it was not safe to drive without the brakes. The car is still being diagnosed at they dealership.

I was driving on the free way the first time this event happened to me. My brake light came on indicating that my brake was on I pulled over to check it and my brake was off. When I went back on the freeway all of my warning lights turned on and it was very hard to brake I had to press the brake pedal really hard to even get my car to stop. The warning lights will stay on for about 10 minutes or so and then the brakes lock and come to a sudden stop. I took it to the Toyota dealership who sold me my car and they ran a diagnostic and could not find anything. The second time this happened to me it became quite dangerous. The brake light came on again while I was on the freeway going 65 (the speed limit). I was being very cautious with my car since that happened. All of the warning lights came on again. I was on a freeway ramp merging to get onto a different free way section. I could not brake to slow down. Finally when I pushed the pedal hard enough my brakes locked and I did a 360 almost hitting two cars passing me. My car is at the Toyota dealership right now they do not know how to fix it. I don't feel safe driving my car like this after it did the 360 at 60 mph. Please help I submitted pictures of all the lights that come on the picture is missing the abs but the abs light comes on as well. I also submitted what I think is the problem also.

On 2 occassions our 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid lost braking power. Dash board lights abs, vsc and brake light all came on. When brakes were used, car had very little to no braking power.

The abs light and check vsc light and brake light went on. When I tried to apply brakes to stop, I realized that the brakes completely failed. The car was skidding and keep going and I pumped the brakes and still the car was moving forward. I came close to hitting another car and luckily stopped couple of inches from the other car. It keeps happening often and I am worried to drive this car as it is. It works fine and suddenly goes to this brake failing mode. Especially happen more often if it rains and making it more dangerous.

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid. While driving approximately 5 mph, the abs, vsc, and brake warning indicators illuminated. The contact noticed that the brake lights remained illuminated on the rear of the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the skid control computer failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made of the failure, and a case was opened and sent to the manufacturer's legal division. The approximate failure mileage was 132,138.

My 2007 Camry Hybrid has 200210 miles and had a brake accumulator system failure. Received warning of check vsc system and abs and brake light illuminated. Heavy force was required to stop the car. I turned the car off and the error cleared. After driving 30 miles the issue occurred again. This is very unsafe and Toyota campaign expired 5 months ago for unlimited mileage. In date service was 2/26/2007.

While driving on a straight road on 3 separate occasions I lost all control of my brakes and my "check vsc light", brake light and abs lights came on. I was not able to stop my car like normal and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. It was very scary while driving.

Brakes skip now and then but eventually catch. Today while driving about 35mph in town driving straight the "check vcs braking system" lights came on as well as anti skid light and brake light and I lost all brakes when I stepped on my brakes to stop. Skid off road and car eventually stopped but brakes were all the way to the floor. I googled the warning lights and found that it was a recall on the brake system. I did not receive a recall notice in the mail if there was in fact one. Called the Toyota dealer where I purchased it and they told me to bring it in and they would look at it to confirm that it is indeed a recall issue.

"check vsc system" when I took my car out this morning, I got a warning light saying "check vsc system". My brake light and abs lights are also on. All the dashboard brake light came on, and a couple of seconds later all the system warning lights came on. The brakes became hard to push as if they were fighting me. After about 5 minutes the lights went off and the brakes felt normal again. This occurred while I was driving today. The bigger worry is that it happened ten days ago also. Once on a city street and once on the interstate. I took the car to two different shops (one was a Toyota dealership in marietta, georgia) and they both ran diagnostics and couldn't find anything wrong. But I have an unsafe car with brake problems!.

While driving on a local street I noticed the red brake light came on and then just a few seconds later multiple lights came on, master warning light, electronically controlled brake warning, anti-lock brake system, slip indicator, and check vsc system and I had no braking capability. I was finally able to get the car pulled off of the road so I turned off the car and then turned it on again and the same lights were still on. I turned it off again and after a few minutes I turned it back on and the lights were not on and everything was normal. Braking system was working again. This has happened 3 times in the last 3 months and needless to say this car is no longer safe to drive.

I was driving when the check vsc warning came on as well as the indicator warning light, the brake warning light, the abs warning light and the vsc warning light. All the lights remained on until I reached my destination. The brake system made a strange "grunting" noise when the brakes were depressed but the brakes seemed to function properly. The lights came back on when the car was restarted and less than halfway on the return trip, went off. There has been no noticeable loss of braking. On the 21st of the month the lights came back on and have not gone off. The abs pump actuator appears to be cycling very quickly.

While driving under 45 mph on a straight suburban paved road, my brake light came on then off then on again directly followed by all the warning lights coming on and the display showed "check vcs system". I was entering a turn lane behind another vehicle and quickly realized the brake pedal was not working. I had no brakes! I had already put the car into the engine brake mode which helped slow my vehicle. I slammed down on the brake pedal as hard as I could and swerved away from the car in front of me to avoid hitting them. After successfully pulling over and to a stop, I turn the vehicle off and waited for a few minutes. I turned the car back on and all the lights and check vcs system was still displayed for about 30 seconds. I heard a small click and all the warning lights turned off and the car and brakes were back to normal. I am honestly now afraid to drive my own car for fear of not knowing when and if that will happen again.

While driving on city street, check vsc system warning appeared along with check engine/stability/antilock brake warning lights. Vehicle did not lose braking completely but did not feel normal and was brought to side of road. After restart was lights cleared and has behaved normally so far. Brought to dealer next day, unable to find problem.

Whiles driving the abs light came on , the caution lights came on and brake light came on at the same time. The brakes felt really odd. It pulsates. The alarm says check the vsc system.

I started my car this morning and a message that said check vsc system appeared. The brake light and master warning lights also appeared. I started to go out the drive way and could not press the brakes. It was a little jumpy and the brakes are hard to press now.

2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid that has been serviced several times for brakes. Repeated requests to change brake pads, which was initially thought to be the problem but several mechanics have confirmed that this was not the issue. Contacted Toyota headquarters whom confirmed that there is no recall. Instead, owners are encouraged to visit their local dealer only if a dashboard warning brake light is lit, which was not applicable in my case although a degredation in the brake system was apparent. Toyota only sent a notice regarding the brake-fluid reservoir tank and no warning to consumers of a serious safety risk regarding a defective brake system that worsens overtime. Currently having a difficult time selling the vehicle due to same feedback/complaint of slow brake response, which worsens with higher speeds and/or sudden stops. Reports of extra effort in brake pedal application, strong vibration and noise when attempting to do a quick stop. This issue has resulted in three separate car accidents with three different drivers, wherein two collided with another vehicle and one struck an object, all within a 2-month period. Claims where filed under my insurance and all drivers were deemed to be at fault, but Toyota should be held completely responsible for the (1) defect, (2) failure to notify consumers of an urgent safety risk and (3) failure to recall, despite the number of similar complaints and accidents with NHTSA. Toyota's improper handling and failure to acknowledge a defect in their product warrants a class action lawsuit.
