My wife and I bought a certified Camry Hybrid from the local Toyota dealership. Even though there is a buzzing noise from the original purchase, we assume that because it was a hybrid that that was normal. For 4 years we have brought our camry to the same dealership for oil changes and regular service needs. Never in the time had the dealership told us there was a problem with the buzzing sound. Recently the abs and vsc lights came on so we took the car in to see what the problem was, after the dealership told us but the cost would be around $2,100 I decided to see if I would be able to do it myself and after googling the part I looked under the hood and saw that the noise we have been hearing for 4 years is coming from the same part that needs to be replaced.
Brake, abs and warning lights came on, check vsc message came on and my brakes stopped working. I was leaving my parking lot and got halfway down the block when this occurred. I could not brake so I let the car roll to a stop and used the curb to make a complete stop. Car I had not moved since I drove it really slow to house.

Brake comes on, abs light comes on and it becomes difficult to brake (brakes are hard). Then after an hour or so the lights go off and brakes return to normal. I noticed that when it returns to normal there is a heavy bump, it actually feels like someone bumped you from the rear. This has happened off and on for about 3 months now. I took it to my mechanic thinking it was something minor, pads etc. And it was not that. On 11/28/18 I took it to the dealership. They found nothing wrong. Not sure what else can be done. This is very frustrating and potentially dangerous. Because this problem can happen at any time with no warning, it has happened while driving and also starting the vehicle. My personal mechanic did find some information that may pertain to this problem (warranty enhancement program - ze1 2007 - 2011 model year Camry Hybrid vehicles extension of warranty coverage for brake actuator assembly and skid control ecu/break pedal sensor) service campaign bulletin ref# t-cp-ze1, date of issue July 1, 2014.
Vsc abs mil lights came on in dash and brakes sank to floor, but restored control after restart. Checked diagnostic codes and it showed codes for hybrid battery p0a80 and p3025. Replaced auxilary battery with oem from Toyota. Now car shuts down while in motion driving highway speeds without any warning and lose gas pedal response. First time it happened with my family in the car including a 5 yr old and 9 month old baby. Complained to Toyota as vehicle only has approx 93000 miles and Toyota declines to assist with resolving issue even though warranty was extended to 10yr/150k miles. Dealer misdiagnosed vehicle codes. Brakes failed second time, this time causing car to slowly bump into object and scraping bumper at low speed. Checked all fuses. Vehicle now continuously shuts down randomly on slow or high speeds, while making a turn, merging into traffic, crossing a heavy intersection.
I needed to slow for traffic congestion. I applied the brakes, but they didn't seem to work. Several lights on the dash came on including the check hybrid engine, the check vsc system, and the abs lights. The power brakes were off and it became difficult to stop. Then the vehicle's engine stopped completely requiring me to maneuver out of heavy traffic to the shoulder of the road. I turned the car off and waited 10 minutes. I was able to drive the car to a Toyota dealer who said sometimes this happens if gas cap is loose. I was told I could leave and they would troubleshoot for a couple of hours and a couple hundred dollars. I left and conducted my own troubleshooting on google and sounds like a brake actuator problem due to similar issues with other owners. Toyota has a know issue with this vehicle and needs to make amends. Please advise.
Check vsc system as well as abs and tire lights come on. Known issue with Toyota. Had a maintenance program, but won't help me because it didn't start to occur until 1 month after expiration date. They don't send notifications. You have to wait until the problem occurs which could be after it causes an accident!.
As I was traveling on i75 north of atlanta, I needed to slow for traffic congestion. I turned on my hazard lights, but was almost hit by several vehicles as I got to the shoulder.
Check vsc system error, traction control light, abs light and emergency "!" light illuminated when car was idle. Brakes became "soft". Next day, light was off until after driving a few miles, again same lights came on and brakes became soft again at a stop light.

Brake system failed with brake, check csv system and abs lights on dashboard while driving on highway.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid. While driving approximately 10 mph, the contact heard a continuous noise emitting from the vehicle. The electronic brakes and abs warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the entire braking system failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid. While driving 25 mph, the abs warning light illuminated. The contact had to apply extreme pressure to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The vehicle made a squeaking sound. The dealer diagnosed that the brake actuator was failing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.
I have a 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid with 152850 miles. This happened yesterday (2/24/2016). It was parked and when I started the vehicle this message immediately showed up along with 4 lights turned on. 1 - check vsc system 2 - red "brake" indicator (brake system warning light) 3 - yellow indicator (brake system warning light) 4 - master warning light 5 - abs indicator light the brake oil is full. I felt like its taking longer time to stop. Also unlike before sometimes have to press the brake all the way to the floor.
Twice in the past two days, I was driving down the road and my abs and check vsc lights came on. The first time, nothing appeared to happen to the vehicle other than the lights. Today however, I was driving at highway speed when the lights came on. Luckily, I was approaching congested traffic and I was able to slow down naturally. As I came to the traffic and was driving at roughly 15mph, I tried to depress the brake and it went directly to the floor and did not apply any brake pressure or stop the car in any way. I pumped the brakes while veering onto the shoulder. The car did not stop at all and I was forced to coast to a stop on the shoulder of a 5 lane highway, where speeds often reach 70mph or higher. I restarted the vehicle, the lights turned off and I was able to drive the rest of the way home. I called local Toyota dealerships and made an appointment to check the car. They are going to charge me $110 for the diagnosis of the vehicle, which is all I know at this point. I also independently researched the warning lights and found articles stating that this is happening fairly frequently and that the NHTSA is investigating. That article also stated that the repair can cost upwards of $2,200. The car is absolutely unfit for the road. I can't drive a vehicle where the breaks could stop working at any moment and with very little warning. There does not appear to be any issue with the breaks themselves, when working properly. It appears to be purely a computer problem that causes the breaks to not engage.
Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at 10 mph the vsc and abs warning lights illuminated and the brakes seized. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the technician replaced the brake cylinder. The contact stated that the failure recurred twice. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 73,000. Ah.
Vsc lights and abs lights stay on and power assist to brakes is intermittant causing extreme pressure to be applied to stop. Also audible alarm sounds frequently.
The Toyota Camry Hybrid shows the "check vsc system" message on the dashboard with the brake, hazard, warning, and abs lights. Upon research it seems like a known Toyota issue with their faulty abs accumulator. The replacement cost is a staggering $2500+ quoted by the dealers. Without replacing it affects the brake systems. There is pulsating in the brakes. There is also water pump leak associated with this. This should be handled by Toyota with a recall. There are lots of reporting for this same issue and fixing this issue is so costly and for a know failed/fauly component.
When braking for a yellow stoplight. I lost all brakes and brake pressure. Several indicator lights including the abs light as well as a message "check vsc system". There were no vehicles next to me so I was able to change lanes to clear traffic in oncoming turn lanes and pass through the intersection safely. The brakes reingaged at the next application of the brake. We drove the vehicle home and the event occurred at each stop, approx 10 occurrences, depressing the brake and failing with the errors above then redepressing to engage the system.
I was backing up in my driveway, turning the vehicle around. The check vsc warning message came on as well as the abs warning light and another red exclamation point. The brakes ceased working properly, jerking with even the lightest touch, and not working at all for a few scary seconds, and then suddenly jerking as if they had been slammed on hard. After driving the vehicle down our roadway for a half mile, we concluded that the brakes were going to continue to do this as the condition did not change.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The contact received notification from the manufacturer for a service campaign to address the internal malfunction of the brake actuator assembly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer more than three times for diagnosis and the dealer was not able to remedy the failure with the manufacturers service campaign ze1. The contact stated that after the repair the service engine soon warning light, abs warning light, traction control warning light and slip indicator continued to randomly flash and stay lit. The contact also stated that the push button start would not properly function intermittently and the contact was not able to start the vehicle numerous times with no warning. The manufacturer was also notified several times that the service campaign did not prevent the failure from happening. The vehicle was to be taken back to the dealer for further testing and diagnosis but the contact was waiting on instructions from the manufacturer to provide a permanent remedy for the condition to address the failure and received no resolution. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 126,355. Dyd.
As the vehicle was being driven on 11/20/2014, "check vsc system" showed up on the multi-information display, and the master warning light, abs light, slip indicator light, and brake system warning light (yellow indicator) came on. Vehicle braking performance seemed slightly diminished but still safe to drive. On 11/22/2014 I had to make a trip to town, and not knowing the severity of the warnings, used the camry. While driving northbound at approximately 50 miles per hour, I indicated a right hand turn, and a westbound vehicle at a stop sign started turning from the road I was turning onto to drive north on the road I was turning off of. While attempting to slow down to make my turn, the brake performance was extremely poor. I was unable to slow down to a reasonable speed to make the turn and had to make my turn at a much higher than normal rate of speed to avoid colliding with the driver that was turning out in front of me. I finished my trip to town, allowing far more braking distance than normal, and returned home and left the vehicle in the garage. I checked the brake fluid level and it was within the normal range between min and max. This morning I contacted a local Toyota dealer for a service appointment.
On Friday the 20th of September, I took my vehicle to queensboro Toyota in NY to change my oil and check why my brake abs signal hazard lights were on. The oil was changed and I was told "nothing is wrong with your brakes" and the signal was removed. On September 24th, I almost got into an accident because my brakes failed on me, so I returned the vehicle for a 2nd diagnostic. I was then told "who ever changed your oil, they put the wrong brake fluid and it damaged the brake system. My brake fluid was never changed because I have a 2012 new car and it is unnecessary to change it now. I tried explaining my issue to the supervisor of the Toyota service department and I was told to do my own investigation on the contamination of my brake fluid. The history of the vehicle shows queensboro Toyota performed my maintence, so I hold them responsible. Please help me, I am an honest consumer who can't afford to spend unnecessary funds for an issue Toyota can resolve that almost caused me an accident with my 3 daughters on the highway.

I was driving about 35 mph when all of my brake, slip indicator and abs warning lights came on. I immediately pulled over and looked it up in my owner's manual. There, it told me to take the car to the Toyota dealer. I was 40 miles from home so proceeded to go back to the hospital to pick up my boyfriend. I got less than a mile down the road when the master warning light and an alarm came on. Again I pulled over and turned off the car. The manual told me that I needed to have it towed to the dealer immediately. At the dealership I found that there was a "limited service campaign" on a filter that connects the chambers in the brake reservoir. It was replaced and I didn't have another issue until 11/26/14. Again, all the warning lights and alarm came on and I had to have it towed to the dealer. There, I was told that the brake actuator had failed and it would be over $1500 to replace. Luckily, I did some research and found this is also being covered by Toyota under a "warranty enhancement" program.
Was very hot outside for 3 weeks straight. On the way to the grocery store check engine light came on with the following 2 readouts on speedometer display: "check vsc" and "check hybrid system". Instantly the hybrid part of the vehicle stopped working. Brakes changed feel and throttle became very delayed. When I pulled into my driveway and put the transmission into park, the engine started to knock. When I put into drive or neutral the knocking stops. The engine knocked hard in park position as if there are loose pieces of metal crunching. Ever since then, the car's hybrid drive doesn't work and check engine light is on, abs light, vsc light p/s light, a red triangle light, and an orange circle with an exclamation point in it. We parked the car and we are not driving it until its fixed. We have 2 toddlers and we aren't going to risk driving it.
While driving, a notification was given "check vsc system". The abs light as well as the red brake system are on as well. Brakes are not as responsive and it is difficult to stop. We will not be able to have the system checked till next week. A search on the internet says this is bad.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the brake pedal was applied and the brake system failed to engage. The stability control and the abs warning lights illuminated while the failure occurred and remained illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart and function as normal. The vehicle was taken to a dealer which diagnosed a failure code on the brake actuator. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The current and failure mileage was 140,000.
I purchased a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid with 85,000 miles in July 2nd of 2014. Since I got this car from dealer in a auction first I went closes Toyota service center to change the oil and do the 85000 mile service so I can keep the car protected. And they tall me perform the maintain on it but they is waning light for abs and another waning check vsc system they assume may be fault in computer system witch repair cost around $3000 and the advice me to return the cart dealer. I spend all my money in the buying the car so can¿t spend any more money. Then I contact the dealer but to return the car but they don¿t accept the car back. Since I didn¿t have any choice I start driving the car back to home. Suddenly nonstop buzzer sound came up along with the "check vsc system" /brake, hazard, warning, and abs lights its middle of the freeway and I noticed that the brakes did not function properly. I try to push the brake pedal; it was just like a rock not moving a bit I thought I gone die. Luckily I able bring it to safe place. Now car is sitting in my home don¿t know what to expect next. I research the problem in the internet, notice so many-many 07- 08 Toyota Camry Hybrid customers have the experience the same problem. Since many 07- 08 Toyota Camry Hybrid customers experience this problem so I hope Toyota recall the abs accumulator and fix before anybody get die or be critically injured. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2007 Camry Hybrid. The contacts stated that after powering up the vehicle, the tire pressure, brake and the abs lights illuminated. The contact mentioned that the brake pedal became soft and the brake distance increased failing to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 142,216 and the approximate current mileage was 142,230.
While braking on a slight incline my 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid's power brakes and steering malfunctioned making the vehicle hard to steer and stop. It felt as if both the power brakes and steering went out simultaneously and the car seemed to roll, or sway, left and right. At the same time a "check vsc system" warning appeared on my dash along with the red brake indicator light, red service indicator light (triangle with exclamation point), amber brake system warning light and the amber abs warning light. If I had been traveling at a higher rate of speed, in heavy traffic or had I been approaching a crowded crosswalk or intersection this event could have been disastrous. After pulling over and visually inspecting my brake fluid level and engine compartment I used my cell phone to check online and found others with similar problems (which led me here to file a complaint/report). After waiting on the side of the road for about a half hour the warning message and lights went out so I slowly drove to the dealer 5 miles away. The dealer informed me that the abs actuator needed to be replaced at a cost of $3607. 88 (plus tax on the $3000. 00 part). My southern California Toyota csr proclaims to have never heard of this issue -- even though my web searching has turned up lots of discussion and articles (I. E. L. A. Times report, cbs, nbc, ap, consumer affairs plus the NHTSA announcement of the opening of their investigation at the end of January 2014).
Vsc and abs warning lights and buzzer came on upon just starting car. Front drivers side brake caliper locker up. Drivers side brake locked up. Dealer wants 2800 for repair. In searching the internet, it appears that this has happened to lots of other 07 -11 Camry Hybrid owners. This should be covered by warrantee. How do I file a formal complaint with Toyota???.
I was driving on the freeway, when the vsc and abs warning lights came on. I noticed a loss of braking power. The brakes "pop" when I depress the petal upon starting. I have noticed the brakes jerk on two occasions. I am concerned about my safety when I drive the vehicle, but cannot afford to repair it at this moment. The replacement part alone is over $2,100. On a side note, I previously owned a 2009 camry xle that had the same problem.
First incident: when in reverse, about 5 warning lights came on (abs light, caution light and red triangle and others) and braking required hard depressing. I took to Toyota dealer; they reset the warning lights and said car was ok. When I was driving home from dealer, multiple warning lights came on again and it took full pressure to brake, while car also seemed difficult to control. I would classify it as catastrophic failure, and was fortunate to be driving slow in the city. I returned to dealer. They diagnosed as c1247 error and recommended replacing skid control computer for $1,800. When I complained that this should be covered under a hybrid warranty, regional Toyota offered $500 "towards repair as goodwill assistance. ".
As I was slowing for a stop sign, the check vsc system light came on and I had to push harder on the brakes than I normally do. I turned the car off and after a short time restrated it and the car proceeded normally. About two weeks later as I was driving about 50 mph, the brake, vsc, and abs warning lights all came on. I pulled into a turn lane and slowed to a stop. Again I had to push the pedal harder than normal.
While driving with my wife in our 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid on a surface street, I applied the brakes and realized that the car was not slowing down. The brakes had failed, and when I looked at the dashboard, the display said, "check vsc system". The lights for the "brake" and the abs lights were also illuminated. Luckily we did not have any cars immediately in front of us, or to the right, so we were able to change lanes and exit on to a side road. The brake system came back online after about 10 seconds, and we were once again able to slow the car down. This was a extremely terrifying experience, and I have since then found out that many others have faced the same problem, on the same make and model. This has happened a few different times in the past to both my wife and myself, but fortunately we were backing out of a parking spot whenever it happened. This prompted us to take our car in to the dealer and asked them to check the brake system. We have also asked the dealer to check the brake system whenever we have taken the car in for routine maintenance. On both occasions, the dealer has never detected any issue with the braking system, and we have continued driving our car unaware of the potential risk. We need to use our car, but are unable to because it is now a safety hazard. I urge Toyota to issue a recall and fix this problem immediately as it directly impacts human lives. After researching this issue, I have found that the cost to fix it is between $2500 and $3000. Our car is nearing 7 years old, and the cost of the repair is nearly 30% of the car's worth. It is ridiculous to expect a consumer to foot the cost of this bill, when instead it should be Toyota's responsibility, due to the fact that this is a manufacturer defect and is a risk to people's lives.
I was driving at approximately 65mph on the interstate when the vsc warning came on my instrument panel along with the parking brake indicator light, the low tire pressure warning light, the abs warning light, and the traction control light. I immediately pulled over and did not notice any hesitation in the braking system. Since I was on a trip home, I continued my trip. Throughout the trip I noticed that the braking became more difficult, in that I had to apply more pressure to the brake pedal in order to stop. I took the car to my Toyota dealership where they diagnosed the problem as being a leak in the brake actuator. They quoted me a $3000 cost estimate and informed me that the car is unsafe to drive due to the unpredictable braking. This seems like a problem that many Camry Hybrid owners are having. I am fortunate to have arrived home safely!.
