While traveling on the interstate, about 80% of my brakes gave out and I lost stability. My abs indicator and the message "check vsc system" came on. As I came to a stop, my brakes jerked a bit and I came to a sudden and aggressive stop. I turned the car off and restarted it, and everything drove fine. This same thing happened sporadically about 20 times over the next couple of months, but now my abs light and check vsc indicator are on at all times. My brakes are diminished most of the time down to 50%, and every now and again, my car will come to a really hard stop as I brake. I had a Toyota dealer look at it, and I was told my actuator was out and would need to be replaced at a cost of $3,000. That is just for the part, not including labor. I only paid $15,000 for the car. On top of that, they aren't even using the 2007 model actuators, they are using a later model, which tells me they know something is wrong with the 2007.

While driving suddenly all light light up on the dsh including brakes check vsc red triangle light abs trac light, followed by complete brake failure at red light had to run the light lucly no trafic and accident was avoided few seconds later all lights disappeared and brakes came back to normal, vent to a shop to see ehat the issue was there no problem found and was told everything works as it should no error codes found, days later same problem happened complete brake failure followed by resuming to normal and once again mechanics did not find any issues. . . Went online fount out it was a very common problem which im surprised Toyota mechanics know nothing about, the issue seems to be with brake actuator which costs about $2000, finally after few months I was able to arrive at the shop whith all the lights still lit up and they finally have confirmed that in dead the problem is the brake actuator, however part was replaced with dame part number and when I asked if the part was updated due to masive premature failure of these units I was told it was not, this needs to be addressed before people start dieing.
Abs light is on. So far the car stops fine but makes a strange sound when applying brakes and vehicle vibrates when coming to a stop. Antilock brakes do not seem to be working as the car does skid in wet conditions.
Coming to a street stop at 15 mph abs lights and some other came on. It was very hard to stop the vehicle even with all possible pressure on pedal.
As I was approaching a pedestrian crossing abs light and check vsc light and break light went on in my Camry Hybrid. When I tried to apply breaks to stop I realized that the breaks completely failed. I did a sharp evasive turn and hit the curb hard in attempt not to run over pedestrians in the crossing! the lights subsequently disappeared and breaks resumed their normal function after a few minutes. The issue of breaks failing is intermittent and happened subsequently several times at various speeds. When taken to the dealer at first I was told there were no codes registered in the computer and the breaks operate standard. When I insisted after approximately 7 hours of testing the dealer told me the problem is with the break control unit (computer). After researching online I discovered its a widespread problem!!! and yet Toyota is behaving immoral not recalling the faulty parts that in many cases can not even be diagnosed. Moreover they do not even admit that theres an issue!.
Abs warning lights appear on dash, intermittent loss of braking. System reset and car was fine for couple of weeks then it happened again. System reset again - fine for another couple of weeks now the lights are on and stay on. Toyota dealer wants $2500-3,000 to repair system and tells me it is rare and haven't seen it in other vehicles of my type. Yet I find several people with the same year, make and model of my vehicle on the internet with the same problem. Coincidence?? updated 07/30/lj.
On four occasions when braking in city traffic, the brake system in the vehicle failed and braking was lost. On two of the occasions I had to swerve off the road onto the shoulder to avoid collision with the motorist in front of me and apply very heavy pressure to the brakes to halt the vehicle over a much longer stopping distance than normal. Conditions were: dry road, no bumps or debris on the road, stop and go city traffic, gentle braking pressure on peddle when initially trying to stop. Vehicle is well maintained by the dealership. Indicators: big red brakes indicator lit up, abs light came on, check vsc system light came on, anti skid light came on, triangle with (!) light came on, orange circle with (!) light came on. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who updated the computer and returned the vehicle to me. Within three days of receiving the vehicle back, the brakes failed again with the same above conditions and indicators. The vehicle was returned to the dealership and remains there presently. The dealership asserts that they are unable to find any fault codes or reproduce the problem and are unauthorized by the extended warranty to make any repairs without proving a problem exists. I contacted Toyota USA and reported the problem to them and awaiting a response. The dealership has a record of the several times the vehicle was brought to them with this brake failure. I am terrified of and will not drive the vehicle now unless a problem is found and corrected. Can you provide assistance or advise on what can be done to force Toyota to replace the brake system in the vehicle? I note I am not the only person who has reported this failure. I am stuck with a vehicle still under warranty that is a death trap and under good conscience can not be sold to another person.
I do not know if this is a complaint and write as I see the Toyota prius brake investigation. I have a Camry Hybrid and had a brake problem last spring. On Saturday 4-25-09, my vsc/abs/warning light came on while I was near the baierl Cadillac dealership. As I had leased from baierl Toyota, I pulled in the baierl Cadillac service as the brakes felt wrong and took two feet. The car did stop. They called baierl Toyota who said to drive up unless flashing warning lights. The lights were steady so I drove slowly without any accident from wexford PA to mars PA to the dealership. I called Monday (ordered part), tues (waiting for part for brakes) and wed(part in morning -need computer to calibrate). The car was returned and the brakes seem fine with no further vsc/abs lights. I do not have the parts. I assume that baierl Toyota, mars, PA 16046 has the records and could tell you more. I did not pay more attention as it was taken care of by the dealership under warranty. My friend suggested that I notify you in the event that the hybrid brakes on the camry should also be checked to help someone else.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, there was a thumping and squeaking sound emitted from the vehicle. In addition, the abs light would intermittently illuminate. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the entire abs system would need to be replaced. The manufacturer had not been notified. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 140,000.
