1 Brakes Failed problem of the 2014 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Failure Date: 09/18/2019

The Camry Hybrid covered only by warranty enhancement zkk are suffering the same dangers from brake booster pump assembly failures as those Toyota covered by Toyota safety recalls (d0h & k0l). By excluding Camry Hybrids with defective brakes from the d0h and k0l safety recalls, Toyota is leaving the owners to helplessly experience life-threatening brake failure or malfunction before Toyota will provide the replacement brake components needed to make the vehicle safe. The law requires Toyota to prevent the life-threatening dangers of this brake defect before the failure occurs. Toyota's cost-cutting strategies are causing crashes and injuries. Injuries and crashes caused by the brake defect explained in this letter have occurred and been reported to the national highway traffic safety administration. Toyota's decision to provide a reactionary, post-failure repair - instead of a preventative safety recall remedy - explains many of the crashes and injuries on NHTSA's safercar. Gov website. Below is a list of relevant complaints from safercar. Gov. c indicates a crash and I indicates injury: 10681105 (c), 10883971 (c), 10971542 (c), 10664739(c)(I), 10807100 (c), 10794987 (c), 10605988(c), 11154818 (c)(I), 10606258, 10592072, 10967838, 10626061(c), 10604544 (c)(I), 10569158 (c)(I), 11090508 (c)(I), 11057737 (c)(I), 10779877(c)(I), 10722560 (c)(I), 10692225 (c), 10560809 (c), 10523025 (c), 10502158 (c), 10616767 (c), 10641347,10611145, 10596979, 1051996, 11003054, 10597316, 10705883, 10875822, 10510996, 10564619 c1256, c1253, c1252, and c1391 - indicating dangers and noncompliance - are being stored in vehicles excluded from the past safety recalls.

2 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Failure Date: 02/04/2019

My vehicle's brakes failed resulting in rear-ending the car in front. This happened on a freeway going straight at 10 am. My vehicle was moving at about 20 miles/ hr when I stepped forcefully on the brake pedal as the car in front of me slowed but I did not lurch forward, my seat belt did not tighten to pull me back and my bag pack that was on the front passenger leather seat stayed where it was. My vehicle behaved as if I had not braked. When I stepped on the brakes, I could see asphalt between my vehicle and the vehicle in front. My vehicle's front bumper, grill and hood was damaged. The vehicle immediately in front of mine had dents on the rear bumper and the trunk. There was a third vehicle in front of the one in front of mine that was also damaged, however, I do not know the extent of the damage. The impact occurred at a low speed which did not cause my seat belt to tighten and did not cause my backpack on the passenger seat to slide forward.

4 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/22/2018

Brake failure. Was driving in residential street (low speed) when brakes stopped working. Had to use parking brake. Problem seems to be with brake fluid reservoir tank/filter, which Toyota offered to service until 30 June 2017. Unfortunately, never had problems with brakes until now--1 1/2 years after the service offer had expired. Should be full recall. The reason why problem did not surface till now is because vehicle has low miles (85,000 after 12 years).

8 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/30/2018

I just found out that my brake actuator is failing. Toyota apparently issued an enhanced warranty rather than a recall to fix this known defect despite the safety risks for all drivers if another driver's brakes fail. I am under the mileage but about a year beyond the extended warranty date. Toyota corporate will not cover the fix and said this is their company position. I feel this should be a recall for the safety of all drivers. (when I brake the brakes make a barking sound. this is what prompted going to the dealer. ).

9 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/19/2018

My 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid started experiencing an error message displayed on dash, "check vsc system", additionally all the indicator lights on the dash lit up. This started happening at the end of March 2018. I have an obd2 reader and the fault code was "c1391". I was able to erase the code and dashboard returned to normal but message and lights return 2-3 days later. In mid-June 2018 I took the camry to Toyota to repair it. They did a diagnostic test ($109) to tell me what I already told them regarding the code. I knew that was the brake actuator assembly problem. They gave me a a quote of $1895 for part and tax and an additional $340 plus tax for labor. I picked up my car, did not have the $2400 to get the work done (parts also would take 2 days to get). They did warn me against driving the vehicle until it was fixed. The technician also pointed out the odd motorized noise the actuator was making when the vehicle was off. He said it shouldn't make any noise when it was off. After further research on forums, I found there was a Toyota warranty enhancement program ze1 specifically for my vehicle for the replacement of the brake actuator assembly (see attached). It was issued in July 2014 to offer full replacement and reprogramming at no cost to the customer. However, it had dated conditions and was only applicable if the lights and messages came up on dash. Although the sound has occurred since I purchased the used car in Jan 2010, I did not receive lights or message until March 2018 but the grace period ran out on July 2017. Toyota should honor the extension of the replacement program when the problem occurs if they won't proactively resolve it prior to the indicated signs. Toyota is warning me to fix this at my cost or risk brake failure at any time.

10 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/17/2018

Complete brake failure!!I was driving down the road approaching a stop light when my brakes went all the way to the floor and a lot of lights came on the dashboard, I coasted to a stop luckily without hitting another car. This is the first time this has ever happened, I have no warning lights indicating there is or was an issue and I had my car towed to the local mechanic that is telling me that it has a faulty brake part #4405030660. I did a little research and it looks like Toyota sells an updated part replacement for this faulty original part, part cost is $1200 plus $700 labor. Reading many forums I'm finding out that there are many people that have had complete brake failure over the years with this same issue and id love to know why this isn't a recall but a punishment from Toyota and a death sentence just waiting to happen.

11 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Brake actuator failure.

13 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/13/2017

Brake actuator failed, triggering warning lights and making it hard to push on the pedal to stop the car while in motion. Abs function won't activate. The issue started in may 2017 and was taken to a Toyota dealer in lufkin, texas for diagnosis. The technicians "couldn't" determine the problem and released the vehicle. This same step happened multiple times over the ensuing months, only to be finally diagnosed on Dec 13, 2017. I researched the issue online and found that the actuator problem is covered by a warranty extension, which stretches out the warranty period beyond the standard three years or 36 months to, ultimately, 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. I thought that was good news, but after speaking with Toyota corporate rep, the warranty was denied due to the vehicle being out of the coverage period since June. I explained that there were attempts to have the issue diagnosed prior to the expiration, but the rep stated that since the actual determination happened outside of the period, coverage could not be extended. Since this is a known issue, their techs should have recognized the problem immediately and repaired the vehicle, which would have been covered by the extended warranty. Furthermore, it's a safety issue and an actual recall should be the remedy instead of working around it with a "service campaign. " I am asking for assistance to have Toyota cover this repair due their failure to educate their service techs or a potential deliberate attempt to move the diagnose outside of the warranty coverage period.

19 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Failure Date: 09/23/2016

When our car was in motion, we experienced very loud audible grunt along with very poor breaking. Extremely scary situation especially since it started suddenly, without warning while driving and the brakes did not work at all during the first incident. The warning lights did not come on and luckily we were not yet on the expressway. We made it home and had it towed to the repair shop the next day. We drove it around the parking lot with the mechanic and the brakes failed again. We had to have the abs brake system (abs pump/module assembly) replaced at a cost of $2,263. We contacted Toyota who said they could not reimburse for the issue. We have read online that other issues have happened to consumers and it seems that anything that results in total brake failure should warranty a recall. Please advise if you are able to consider this situation and if you need any further information. Sincerely, jeannine wise 502-876-8102.

22 Brakes Failed problem of the 2011 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/06/2016

The brakes failed on this car January 6, 2016, causing me to collide with the rear end of a truck while going about five miles per hour. I was in normal traffic, on a city street, coming to a slow stop, and as I approached the vehicle about 15 feet in front of me, waiting in line for the turn lane, I depressed the brake, which was hard as a rock. However, the car would not stop; consequently, I hit the other vehicle. I was going so slow that the airbags did not deploy. Fortunately no one was hurt, although my vehicle sustained about $1200 in damage. I believe this problem was caused by either the abs brake actuator or the brake pedal stroke sensor. However, the car was seen by a Toyota corporation representative who stated in writing there is nothing wrong with the car. This car has already been repaired under a service campaign for the fluid reservoir filter. However, there is also a warranty enhancement program (ze-1), number pol14-04, for the brake actuator assembly and skid control ecu/brake pedal stroke sensor. Our VIN is listed in the group of affected vehicles.

24 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Failure Date: 07/08/2015

I was driving on the freeway one afternoon when all the indicators on my dashboard turned on and stated "check vsc system". I made an appointment with Toyota scheduled for August 2, 2015. After the indicators turned on, I was reversing out of a parking spot when I noticed an oncoming vehicle. I pressed the brakes but my car failed to stop, and I had to shift to park to prevent an accident. The Toyota serviceman informed me the brake actuator was the problem. He further claimed that this was not covered under warranty since the car had been in an accident 3 years ago and wanted to charge me $1,500. How can an accident 3 years ago cause my brake actuator to suddenly fail last month? I am unable to drive my car for fear of an accident; despite the accident Toyota should honor the lsc and fix the actuator instead of trying to charge me for a problem they caused in the first place.

25 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid

The failure mileage was 136,000.

27 Brakes Failed problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Failure Date: 04/13/2015

Brakes failed while driving without warning, I suddenly had no power braking and had to stomp on the brakes to avoid a collision. Car has only 44,000 miles and been driven 29 months. At the dealer they said it was a failed brake booster and would cost over $3000 to repair. The car has been well maintained. I am lucky nobody was harmed but this is a major safety failure on a car that is supposed to be very safe and reliable, and a ridiculously expensive repair in addition. After I complained they wrote off 80% but still cost $600 out of my pocket to replace a defective Toyota brake system.

33 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/21/2014

Vehicle serviced 3/10/10 under Toyota 90l recall campaign. Dealership stated all systems functional upon completion. On 5/21/14, in safe road conditions and parking lot speeds <10 mph, driver applied brakes to vehicle in order to pull into parking spot. During braking, vehicle did not slow or stop, but accelerated at a high rate of speed, striking a parking berm and 3 other vehicles. Police report made; driver not cited but was advised to contact Toyota re brake failure and acceleration. Toyota was contacted; inspection was made by bosch engineering. Toyota contends the incident is not a result of any manufacturing defect. Toyota provided a technical report containing engineering data without layman's explanation or proof of its contention. Toyota was found by the doj to have misled consumers and the govt regarding severity and "resolution: of this issue. On 8/21/14 and 8/22/14 driver was contacted by Toyota with a second and separate recall notice #e0u, affecting the vehicle's brake reservoirs, in which clogging and/or low fluid levels "could cause additional warning lamps[. . . ]to illuminate and front brake assist could be temporarily lost. " the warning lamp in question did illuminate during the 5/21 incident. Legal counsel for driver has advised an independent review of the bosch report and inspection of the brake reservoir; however, the vehicle was totaled and sold at auction by the insurance company's salvage agent. I have initiated an independent review of the bosch report at my own expense. In light of Toyota's misleading conduct regarding recall campaign 90l and the subsequent recall #e0u, driver contends that Toyota is at fault for the events of 5/21/14.

34 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/12/2014

When I tried to apply brakes to stop, I realized that the brake had completely failed and I was on the 110 freeway on a busy Monday morning. Luckily I didn't rear end the car in front of me. The dealer is telling me that my brake system (accuator and electronic components) are out. The car computer system cannot communicate to the brake system and thus I might loose brakes if I keep running. The check vsc system light turned on along with the abs, hybrid battery, park and all other alert lights on the dash board. In addition, I'm told my auxillary battery is also out ($460) dealer is charging me $4800 dollar (excluding the aux battery) and I don't know what to do since the car is with the dealer and I'm told the brakes will fail if I continue to drive. I have 104,000 miles and have done all servicing at Toyota dealers. No warranties and basically they can't help.
