1 Body problem of the 2019 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/17/2025

I hit a deer going roughly 65mph on my way to work. The hit crushed the radiator into the engine, destroyed the airbox, folded the hood, and practically vaporized the headlight. The airbag, however, did not deploy- not in the wheel or in the side curtain. I wasn't injured but thought it was strange the because the crash totalled the car (~$16k of damage) and was at a high speed. The car had one accident prior, hitting a concrete pillar at a low speed (less than 10mph) and had been repaired two years earlier. I kept every maintainence record for the car and never had any airbag lights on or service done. Because the airbags didn't deploy, the car didn't initiate the safety connect call to 911 or anyone else. I recently saw Toyota settled with many owners of 2019 Corolla sedans but the hatch wasn't included, but I have (anecdotally) heard of similar stories from other hatch owners. I now own a 2023 Corolla hatch and feel a bit concerned the same issue could present.

4 Body problem of the 2004 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/01/2025

This complaint concerns two separate incidents, both involving defective interior door handles. First, in 2023, the driver side driver door handle broke abruptly when the driver attempted to exit the vehicle. As a result, the driver, [xxx] , was trapped in the vehicle and required someone else to let him out from the outside. This was repaired privately at substantial cost to the owner. Then, the exact same thing happened to the passenger side front seat interior door handle in January 2025. The handle mechanism seems to be made of cheap plastic and seems to have broken, preventing the passenger from exiting the vehicle at all and leaving them effectively trapped in the front seat. This has been a major issue recently when transporting family members to the hospital, as time was lost when they tried to get out of the driver side passenger door and found that the door handle mechanism was inoperable. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

7 Body problem of the 2021 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 08/11/2024

I have been taking my Toyota to sun Toyota for routine maintenance and inspections. Upon today’s inspections they are claiming the battery looks like it leaked on the axial, some of the undercarriage components look broken and rusty. Possibly needing replacement. The overall car is less than 60k in mileage so that seems odd to me. I also brought the car in at 45k and they made no mention of these issues during that vehicle inspection. I asked about my brakes and braking issues. I do not slam on my brakes and the technician said I should stop braking too hard. There is noticeable wear now on them. I asked them to change them at the previous visit and they refused saying it did not need it. I am concerned for my safety and lack of care at this sun Toyota.

This is a structure complaint. Paint is peeling off of my 2015toyota Corolla. See attached pictures. Per the Toyota dealer in logan utah, they referred me to you on this issue. I was not made aware of the paint recall that ended in January 2025. I hope this complaint will reopen another recall.

10 Body problem of the 2013 Toyota Corolla

11 Body problem of the 2014 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/01/2024

White paint and clear coat is peeling off vehicle in large sections. It started around the windows and door frames but now almost half the vehicle is missing the paint. I was told by a local mechanic that Toyota had a recall but when I went to meridian Toyota, they said the recall was for 10 years from the manufacturer date which was 10/13. This is a 2014 vehicle so we didn’t purchase it until 2014. I went at the end of 2024 and they refused to help with it since it was manufacturers date and not 10 years from the year of vehicle. The vehicle is now starting to rust due to a known problem from Toyota which they refuse to fix. My family has had 7 Toyota vehicles which we love but I am extremely disappointed that you won’t fix this problem which is in no way our fault. The paint in the pictures attached has actually gotten worse in the past few months. Please help resolve this situation.

S. C. 552(b)(6).

13 Body problem of the 2013 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 12/01/2023

This is a white Toyota where the paint is peeling on both sides of the windshield and the top of the trunk. This is a known issue with certain white Toyotas.

14 Body problem of the 2013 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/19/2023

Trunk trunk lid trunk latch rear bumper cover rear bumper brackets both rear head lights both rear head light rear trunk lid cover rear trunk trunk support are broken, my safety was put at risk because I was hit in the back of my car at a stoplight. The vehicle has not been inspected by the police but it is currently at the mechanic.

15 Body problem of the 2022 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/03/2023

The front end of this vehicle rides too low and tends to scrape the pavement on inclines, usually steep driveways or entrances/exits. If the scrape is severe it can cause one to stop possible in the lane of traffic with possible exposure to oncoming traffic. In addition, it breaks the thin plastic bumper and may negatively impact other safety features.

18 Body problem of the 2020 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/30/2023

I was driving on the road and I heard something like an explosion, I turned the emergency lights on and stopped to find out what had happened. I saw the sunroof completely broken, fortunately I didn’t get hurt but I got so scared and I don’t know if I will feel comfortable driving my car again.

19 Body problem of the 2022 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/15/2023

I bought a used 2022 Toyota Corolla le but it is showing corrosion on the hood. The left axle is vibrating over 40 mph when accelerating, confirmed by a mechanic. Toyota tells me the warranty expired at 36,000 miles, my car has about 36,800.

20 Body problem of the 2011 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/01/2023

I am writing to formally request a recall or resolution for a significant defect in my [2011, Toyota, Corolla] vehicle, which I purchased in 2011. Over time, the paint on my vehicle has begun peeling extensively, affecting not just the aesthetics but also potentially the resale value and durability of the car. This issue appears to be a widespread problem among vehicles of similar make and year, suggesting a potential manufacturing defect. Given the extent of the paint deterioration, I kindly request that Toyota company acknowledge and address this issue through a recall or appropriate corrective measures. Vehicle details: make & model: Toyota, Corolla year: 2011 VIN: [xxx] current mileage: 80,000 estimated I would appreciate a prompt response regarding my request. Please let me know the next steps in addressing this concern, including any available remedies Toyota may offer. You may contact me at [xxx] or [xxx] at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I look forward to your response. Best regards, [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

21 Body problem of the 2014 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 11/23/2022

We was on highway and a buck jumped out , my passenger was freaked out knowing no air bags deployed. I was escorted home by police and contacted Toyota ,they sent a john espinoza to come take my sensors off the car and never contacted me again, told me to sign into Toyota page and they'd get back to me. Now my car just sits smashed in garage, it was in great shape before and I was gonna trade it in.

22 Body problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/28/2022

I had the airbag repaired during the recall. However, the airbag warning light remains on. In addition, the speedometer has stopped at 299,999 although the trip meter still works. The paint is peeling and the roof is rusting which is classic for Toyota.

23 Body problem of the 2020 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/20/2022

Doors fill up with rain water and water is sloshing around inside door frame. Need doors replaced due to electrical components being damaged by moisture corrosion.

24 Body problem of the 2021 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/12/2022

While driving my car I noticed a sloshing noise like water, I thought it was a bottle of wiper fluid until I opened and closed my passenger rear door. The door was full of water, I looked it up online and found tips to loosen a plug on the bottom of the door to let the water drain out. I did this and it was pouring out of the door. I called for service, took the vehicle in, asked about damage to electrical inside the door like speakers and locking systems. The man explained due to the way the door is made if any water got in it would not affect these systems. They advised the plugs can get full of debris and to loosen the plugs after heavy rain. This has now happened several times, I have to check all my doors and drain them after it rains. Note there are three plug holes, all have plugs so no water can freely drain on it's own.

25 Body problem of the 2022 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 07/14/2022

Rain water accumulates in the doors of a brand new car that is only 4 weeks old. The only official fix, according to Toyota and ntsa, is to remove the plugs at the bottom so the water can drain out every time it rains. This is not a fix. The water should not be accumulating in the door at all. Over time, the repeated water accumulation will cause mold, mildew, rust and damage the electrical system. This is absolutely absurd.

26 Body problem of the 2017 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 06/14/2022

Currently have paid off my white Toyota Corolla 2017, and is been a while since I notice the paint was pealing off and take it to the body shop, they told me to check my car for a recall since Toyota has extended warranty for this matter (which I found here that does not have a recall), and that it was too soon for the car paint to be this bad, the top is also star to roasted and I just paid it off and think is not fair for me to be paying for something so early, also I take good care of it, washed two or more times at month and also handwax once or twice every month, hope this can do something about me and many more out there having the same issue.

27 Body problem of the 2020 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 06/01/2022

I’ve owned my 2020 Toyota Corolla since April of 2019. Around June of 2022 I noticed a sloshing/ swooshing sound. I didn’t think much of it, but it kept doing/ hearing it. Finally I got tired of hearing the noise, and started to look for where the noise was coming from. I then realized there was water in my rear doors. I didn’t know what to do since once I realized what was happening or how it was happening, my warranty period had just passed, since at this point I have owned the vehicle for over 3 years. I kept researching and found the article attached in pdf. I was able to complete the work myself. At this point I am now worried the interior will have rust, since the water would sit there for days/ weeks after it rains. I think this resolves the issue of getting the water to exit the doors, but I don’t believe it resolves how the water is entering the vehicle. I truly believe this car will rust out from the inside, and will be left paying for the bad manufacturing of Toyota, with regards to this vehicle, and possibly a dangerous vehicle issue, as the rust will compromise the integrity of the vehicle.

28 Body problem of the 2019 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/30/2022

Water was trapped in both the rear doors. Even though I was able to drain both using the plugs on the doors, this is a reoccurring problem because a lot of water was trapped inside the door panels. I could hear it sloshing around while driving and every time I opened or shut the doors. I don’t know if this could cause rust over time or if this could cause damage from becoming frozen inside the panels in the cold weather months.

29 Body problem of the 2019 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/23/2022

Seat belts front driver side: seat belt buckle won't engage and fails to go in for multiple attempts and has to be slammed into the seat belt to actually work. Front passenger side: seat belt buckle will not disengage when the button is pressed and has to be squished down as hard as a average man can do, my girlfriend doesn't have enough strength to press it down. I fear that if I get into an accident that the driver side wont be secured all the way and the passenger side will fail to disengage and cause my passengers to get stuck in the car body front driver side: the bumper in the front driver side continuously pops out, car has not been in an accident nor has anything collided with the front, I fear that it can go into the wheel well and cause my car to crash. The car is quiet low in the front but barely scrapes when you go over a big dip, but I have watched my buddys do this and their bumpers dont fall out.

30 Body problem of the 2012 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 04/21/2022

My Corolla flipped over upside down going 30 miles an hour. I collided with another vehicle that was stopped in the opposing lane of travel to turn left. We both barely were over center the line at impact that somehow caused my Corolla to roll upside down. Some how this did not deploy the safety airbags either. The airbags are not my complaint; but rather that I managed to flip upside down going 30 mph from a driver side collision. I’m writing in an attempt to understand why it wasn’t just an impact, but actually flipped the vehicle over. Also, why the safety airbags, which were recalled and repaired, did not engage upon impact. I just replaced the transmission 3 weeks prior to this bizarre accident, that may have totaled my vehicle. It’s still sitting in my garage because new investments had just been made to keep it in good shape for another year (transmission, tires, headlights, plate renewal, etc). I was planning to purchase a new Toyota SUV the following spring or shortly after. Unfortunately this collision has derailed all future ambitions regarding my mode of transportation and forced me to purchase an extremely old Toyota avalon in order for me to function in my daily life as a single parent. I am very fortunate to have escaped any serious injuries considering I was upside down, hanging from my seatbelt, and even more grateful that I had not gotten my 9 year old daughter yet. I was in route to pick her up around 4pm when it happened. I would love some insight or science as to why or how that could have happened. *side complaint- the grill of my Corolla has fallen off twice unnoticeably (and I purchased and replaced with a new one both times). Why are either the fasteners not stronger or why isn’t the bottom of the vehicle itself not stronger. It’s the flimsiest plastic which shouldn’t be used on something meant to transport the most precious cargo. I’ve noticed it is very common for many Corollas to be missing the grill piece since it’s become a “thing”.

31 Body problem of the 2020 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/18/2022

Since March of 2022 I have noticed a sloshing sound from the driver's side door and both rear doors. The sound continues, especially when I break and when I open the doors. The vehicle has not been in any accident at all. I made an appointment specifically to get that looked at on April 11th, however, the Toyota dealership in woodbridge, va completely ignored my request and instead did an oil change, which was not needed, as one had already been done the month before. When I complained they said it would cost $150 to get a diagnosis test done first. From looking at t-sb-0121-20, that is the same issue I am experiencing.

32 Body problem of the 2015 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/13/2022

My daughter was driving my car on the interstate the airbags deployed and hit her in the face, filled the car up with smoke, she couldn’t see anything she hit the iron poles that are together by cables. My car is totaled. My back tire broke completely off of the car. These cars aren’t built safe. I owned my car and now I’m without a car. Has anyone else ever had this happen? air bags deploying for no reason?.

33 Body problem of the 2019 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/26/2022

Purchased a 2019 Toyota Corolla from carvana that was delivered 2/26/22. When delivered, driver pointed out front end date that apparently happened "during transport". Vehicle had bad brakes & rotors that I replaced. Vehicle has one door that does not match the rest of the car. The history was disclosed as clean, no accidents. Carvana is refusing to switch the car out and has no record of me asking for it to be switched with an undamaged car. Payments are being made to bridgecrest and are on time despite me telling them I would return the car if they didn't cancel the loan for this defective car.

34 Body problem of the 2019 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/04/2022

12/12/21 I suffered a mulitple deer strike imploding the windshield and collapsing the roof. Two months later my restored car was returned to me on 2/4/22. It had noxious, concentrated fumes inside from adhesives and sealants not allowed to escape; I stuck my fingers with glass on a shelf under the dash; and I got blasted in the eyes and face with fine glass debris that were still in the defroster vents/ducts. It took 5 medical treatment visits to get my left eye healed. Toyota brand engagement center case 220720000770 states Toyota glass when broken should not be smaller than the size of "pebbles" and had no record on file of glass breakage turning into fine powder. An independent expert/owner of a third party body shop, ridgeway's in berryville va. , had advised he had a inquisitive discussion confirming with the recently-assigned erie insurance claims adjuster, unrelated to my case, on other accidents where Toyota glass had been very difficult to clean up as it was in fine powder form, where other auto manufacturers were not. My prior accident and after accident incidents images and emails state my original accident's glass damage resulted in about three forms of glass debris: fine glass powder as the greatest component everywhere and blown into my eyes; some glass crystals the size of a few grains of salt; and some glass shards, paper-thin laminated shards, that closely resembled the form of fish scales. I had used the words and provided images it looked like it had snowed all over the car's interior and me from the original accident. There are some 150 pages of documentation available for review.

35 Body problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/26/2022
