1 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2016 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 04/03/2020

Dolan Toyota scion informed me that my brake caliper was leaking--I would have to replace the assembly cylinder-- it could not be repaired. I needed new pads and the rotors to be resurfaced. The car was unsafe to drive I had to have them repair it. Total bill: $794. 01. The issue is why did this happen? several mechanics and even the service manager at dolan agreed that this was a rare event on a car with 36000 miles. It points to a defective part or a problem in the manufacturing/assembly process. The warranty has run out on this vehicle, but I think Toyota should accept some responsibility in this case. They sold me a car with defective brakes that could have caused an accident. This is a serious issue. I called Toyota motor sales,USA, inc, I think they should be responsible for the whole $794. 01 bill or at least a part of it! the disagreed with me--they want no responsibility for selling me a car with defective brakes that could have caused an accident. This should not have happened--they are responsible. Could you investigate? I have included a copy of the repair invoice and a copy of an e mail from Toyota motor sales. My case number is:2004071297 and their number 800-331-4331. Please let me know if you need any further information. Frank j winkler /623-256-7735/ fjwinkler999@gmail. 2 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2010 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

Brakes are very spungy and do not seem to ingage. Brakes will fill like they are starting to work and then release and you must push brakes down further before they will start braking. Very slow braking response time. Had the brakes bleed twice and did not fix the problem so the mechanic replaced the master brake cylinder and the car braking did not change at all. Makes me very nervous to drive the vehicle due to slow braking response.

3 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2011 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/28/2014

I came to an intersection and stopped, then took my foot off the brake before noticing that the light was still red. The other vehicle was roughly 30 feet away when I pushed on the brakes. I should have easily been able to stop. Brakes did not engage and I had been pushing them so hard and for so long that I fractured my ankle. There were not even skid marks at the accident scene. My car had front end frame damage from the accident (totaled), and the airbags never deployed. Additionally, in the past I had noticed the rpms rising for no reason while car was idling, and the acceleration issue, where the vehicle seemed to “hang” between speeds of about 35 and 40 and 60 and 65mph. The rpms I only noticed once-so I did not report it, and the “hanging” was my own ignorance (I haven’t had a 4 cylinder in a long time and this was my first—and probably last—Toyota). I also had prior braking concerns-- abs only made a noise (did not vibrate against pedal--again, my ignorance of how this vehicle was supposed to respond) and it was a very icy winter, so I assumed that I had been trying to stop on ice. The brakes behaved fine if I physically pumped them, but sudden stops could not be made.

4 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2010 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/08/2011

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph the brake seized without a warning. Then, the vehicle stopped when the emergency brake was activated. After the vehicle stopped, a picture of a tire was displayed on the dashboard. The vehicle was driven to the dealer mechanic. The failure was not duplicated; however, the brake drums were cleaned and the mechanic installed a cylinder slide and rubber grease. The caliper was serviced. The rear brakes were cleaned and adjusted. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 105,824. Bd.

5 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2003 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 06/25/2010

Exactly appearance as in consumer complaint: odi case number: 10311317. I am writing to let people know that I have resolved an issue myself because I know that nether dealership nor private mechanics would not have sufficient time to properly troubleshoot an issue. I would guess that there is a design flaw in tolerances between guides of brake pads and cylinder slots. Pads are too tight sitting in cylinder, causing excessive force to brake and getting them almost get stacked close to rotor. This causing uneven rotor worming, vibration and humming sound. It is really dangerous. Using grinder I have reduced the size of pad guides. 2 minutes of work. Issue is gone and never recurred.

6 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2010 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 08/22/2009

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. While driving approximately 30 to 35 mph on normal road conditions the "brake" warning light indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. When pressure was applied to the brake pedal there was a slow response. The driver continued to drive with caution. The warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The following day the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for inspection. The technician stated that the failure was contributed to a leak located on the right cylinder. The vehicle was repaired under the service warranty. The contact had concerns of the safety risk. The failure and current mileages were 260.

7 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2008 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 08/14/2007

8 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2003 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/15/2006

When I was driving the vehicle it started to make a rumbling and rattling sound in the rear of the vehicle. I notified Toyota corporation and they flat out refused to assist me or offer any "good faith" measure or any service whatever to assist me with the defect. The rear passenger wheel bearing hub assembly was leaking and was not detectable when the car was taken for services and inspection.
