I checked my VIN number for recalls. Manufacturer recall number 20tb03, NHTSA recall number 20v024, dated: Jan 17, 2020 and read; the subject vehicles may be equipped with an electronic control unit (ecu) from a specific supplier designed to receive signals from crash sensors and deploy the airbags and seat belt pretensioners. The ecu may not have adequate protection against certain electrical noise that can occur in certain crashes, such as severe underride crashes. 8 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2004 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 07/14/2017

Takata airbags/ while the car was in motion slowly turning into a parking space, the airbags deployed. The airbags impeded the driver from controlling the car and caused a crash into a building. This happened on a private parking lot. The car had recently been serviced for the takata recall. Nothing was struck to engage the impact sensors. The road and parking lot was free from obstacles. We want to know if non compliant service for the airbag recall created a failure which caused the airbags to deploy. We are having the car inspected by Toyota and want to know if an impartial inspector can be present to oversee the procedure.

10 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2009 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/15/2017

Takata recall it is unacceptable that there is currently no reasonable time frame for the takata recall to be remedied. It is unreasonable to expect no person to occupy the passenger seat in a 4 person vehicle. This requires a family of 4 to either drive 2 cars and waste money on gas or put themselves at risk by sitting in the passenger seat despite the danger. I am told that a solution is still approximately 9 months away. I have asked Toyota to disable the airbag sensor in the seat until the remedy is available and they have refused for liability reasons. There was a time when we didn't have airbags and just used seat belts. Why can't we treat this as such. It is not reasonable to expect families to restrain from using 1/4 of their car for potentially an entire year. There's not the option to sell the car because fair market value will not be obtained with such a recall. In short, I want my passenger airbag disabled until a remedy can be provided. This is the least Toyota can do.

11 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2010 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 07/21/2016

I called Toyota after receiving the recall notice which recommended using the vehicle without an occupant in the front seat. When I called the customer service number, the representative stated repair of the vehicle was not a "remedy available at this time. " when asked about a car rental again I was told that "remedy is not available at this time. " I was then transferred to an individual who stated reimbursing individuals for making 2 trips to transport 5 people was not a a "remedy available at this time. " the notice which was sent only warns to keep occupants out of the front seat. However, a heavy purse or even grocery bag triggers the weight sensor and may cause the airbag to deploy. I mentioned this to Toyota and said she may want to pass that information along because it may be a serious safety concern. I was told she was taking careful notes and a case manager would contact me the following business day. I never received the phone call. The next morning, I once again reached out to customer service, this time asking the customer service rep about whether the notes reflected the information I had given them about the weight sensor. She stated there were no notes and that either way Toyota does not take "unsolicited advice. " the customer service line has essentially been set up to compartmentalize incoming information in order to shield the company as it kicks the can down the road on the repairs. I am documenting this here in the hopes they can be contacted to remedy the letters language and hopefully prevent injuries to the public.

19 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2004 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 04/05/2013

Toyota issued out a recall on my vehicle. The recall was on 03-04 Corolla's and the issue is that the airbag could depoly at any moment or in the event of an accident it would not deploy. They fixed the the computer, sensor assy, the airbag it self and the harness. However, they would not replace a cable(knowing that this part was a faulty part) since they said it wasnt part of the recall. Now with this cable its called spiral cable, the reason why it needs to be replaced as well because it could send the wrong signal and still deploy my airbag with out being in an accident or not depoly in the event of an accident. To me they didnt fix the issue. Toyota advise me over phone that my vehical was outside their warranty they said that they wont be able to replace that part and its up to me as the customer to pay for it out of pocket. What makes me upset is that Toyota knows this part was faulty and should be part of the recall but yet they fail to include it in the recall. What happens, if im driving and the cable sends the wrong signal and the airbag deploys. I could hurt myself, my passagers and other drivers. The damage could be high since theyre many drivers that drive Corollas. I belive you need to act on this since it could hurt drivers, which can cause insurance rates to increase which can cause drivers to drive less in return hurting the economy.

20 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/20/2013

I believe there is a serious safety issue related to the placement of the air bag sensor. My wife and a CO-workers wife were involved in an accident that severely deformed the front of a 2012 Toyota Corolla without triggering the airbag sensor.   upon inspection, it appears that the portion of the car that the airbag sensor is attached to, moved over a foot and a half without triggering the air bag sensor. As a former ase master technician and technical expert for the better business bureau, this may be a serious design flaw that could endanger the health and safety  of other 2012 Corolla owners. I file a complaint with Toyota USA and I am waiting for their response.

21 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2009 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/21/2012

When someone sits in the front passenger seat, the airbag sensor does not correctly judge who is sitting there. This is a come-and-go problem. Sometimes the error lights come on when they shouldn't:the "buckle seatbelt" light flashes even when the seat belt is buckled. The "airbag off" light also flashes (the lights come on together), even though the person in the seat is a normal-sized adult. The (non-dealer) mechanic also told us it was sometimes sensing a larger person than was there, so it could turn the airbag on when it shouldn't. This would clearly be very dangerous in and accident.

22 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2003 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/21/2012

When stopped at a traffic signal, both the driver and passenger seat belts and air bags deployed with no warning. There was no accident; the car had been completely stopped at the light. Vehicle was maintained in excellent condition before this event. No injury was sustained. A certified Toyota service center determined that it was a malfunction in the airbag sensors and a short in the pre-tensioner assemblies. Alerted Toyota manufacturing of the issue. . . .
