2009 Corolla is drifting left and right on the highway. Some vibration. Recently had new tires and wheel alignment and still very unstable, feels like driving a boat and can move left or right at any time. It has electronic power steering not hydrologic. I'm the second owner of this vehicle and have the maintenance records. The alternator was replaced twice on car which is unusual. Any recall of the electrical rack and pinion for this vehicle? my mechanic did not know how to fix besides replacing the whole rack and pinion system.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) I have a Toyota Corolla 2009, I have reported to north town Toyota in buffalo new york of my car having a steering problem. When driving the car it is constantly fighting your steering. It almost feels like where the rack meets the pinion, that they bounce and separate causing it to not steer properly. The Toyota dealership says that Toyota is not going to fix problems with the steering yet, of course it is our only vehicle, and we have no choice but to drive it. This is very frustrating. They have addressed the peddle recall, as well as repaired a failed left rear abs speed sensor, and bearing, but when I asked that they do both right and left at the same time they refused, now my vehicle is out of warranty, and will have to pay for it when it fails. I am not an uneducated person I have a mechanical degree, and have worked in several industrial plants dealing in industrial maintenance, it is standard practice, that when a bearing fails, and there are more than one in the same area, you replace them all at the same time, just like when one cv boot fails on the searing column they always replace them in pairs, as well as brake pads, drums and rotors. 2007 Toyota Corolla - power steering unit leaks
bad rack-n-pinion unit after one year of driving and 37k miles. Toyota would not honor repairs since I was over warranty by 1k - even though it was noticed one month prior and before the 36k mark. They said since I didn't service it at Toyota they would not address it.

For six years the steering wheel wobbled loosely. The auto had only 15000 on it when the problem arose. We continued to drive the auto. The vehicle was taken to a dealership after initial 3 year warranty period , and they announced that the rack and pinion system was worn out, but would not stand behind the vehicle. Toyota quality is an urban myth.

Vehicle was purchased on 7/1/05 and since then has been in the shop to be fixed 4 different times and due to go back in again on 9/20/05 for the same problems. . . I took the car in on 28 July 05 and told service dept that I thought it was the rack and pinion steering and the checked it said it was the sway bar links and would order. . . . . Went back in on the 8 Aug 05 and sway bar links put in and service dept said there was still a noise and needed it back when they had more time with it so it was taken back on 16 Aug 05 and at that time check engine light was on also so they supposedly replaced plugs as they said it was misfiring and they checked rack and pinion and said they found that it needed it needed steering rack so it was ordered and went back in on 24 Aug and check engine light was on again also and they said it was misfiring again. . . . Replaced plugs once more and supposedly replaced steering rack but since then I have still noticed the handling of car is not right in the steering as I feel like I have to constantly fight the steering wheel. . Very hard to handle on uneven and gravel roads and the check engine light came on once again and I have called them and they will look at it again on the 20 sept 05. . . I do not feel safe in this vehicle. . . I have all paperwork involved with all the dates.
