38 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2009 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 02/24/2010

On February 11, I took my 2009 Toyota Matrix to motorcars Toyota of cleveland heights, ohio, to have the car repaired in the gas pedal recall. While there, I was informed of another recall on the car, on its brakes. Both of these issues were address and I picked the car up on February 13th. On February 24 at 7:45am, I was driving westbound on I-90 in westlake, ohio; it was snowing and the roads were wet, unsalted. As I was rounding a corner near the crocker bassett exit, my car began to skid. I immediately began to pump the brakes and attempt to straighten my car out, but the brakes did not engage. I firmly pressed down on the brakes and nothing happened; I then tried the emergency brake and the car still did not slow down. I was unable to regain control of the vehicle and it began to spin out and to the left. I pumped the brakes as hard and fast as I could, but the brakes never engaged and my car hit the cement median at 55mph. Due to a build up of snow and ice against the median, my car was propelled into the air and landed on its roof. My airbags did not deploy in the crash.

41 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 09/06/2009

I have a2003 Matrix since new, the airbag warning light on the dash has remained on for years, because of limited funds can not go to dealership and pay $$$$ for service fee, diagnostic fee, and parts and labor for someone to "work" their way through the problem over several visits. I now however after several years of state inspections, have to spend this money in order to pass inspection. I was informed that airbag warning lights now have to operate properly in order for a vehicle to pass inspection. Upon googling any recall information online I discovered hundreds of postings of similar complaints, as well as two complaints on this website of airbags that did not deploy during crashes. Did they have similar dash lighting malfunctions as mine??.

43 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 04/10/2009

The airbag warning light started come on my 2005 Toyota Matrix about 2 years ago, and the warning light usually went off if I re-started the engine. I brought the car to the Toyota dealer to check the airbag system on 2007, but they could not find any problems. My car already had over 36,000 miles on that time, thus the warranty was expired. The warning light still came on and off occasionally thereafter. In March 2008, I had an accident when I lost the control of the car during the snowstorm, and I hit the fire hydrant at a speed of 35 miles (my car had 42000 miles on) the car sustained a severe frontal damage, but the airbag did not deployed at the time of the incident. It cost my insurance over $9000 for the repairs. I immediately suspected that there must been a complete airbag system failure on my car since the warning light has been come on/off , so I contacted Toyota customer service if they can fix the faulty airbag system under the power train warranty. I heard "no" and told that I had to pay from my own pocket if there was a problem. The light somehow disappeared somehow since then, so I did not bother to bring the car to the dealer. However, I had another accident in April 2009 when I hit the deer on the garden state parkway in NJ. The car sustained another frontal damage, and car was non-drivable. Once again, the airbag did not deployed at all although I was driving around 55 miles. It cost my insurance over $4000 to repair. My airbag warning lights started to come up again recently, and it goes away if I re-started the engine again. I checked many car sites on the internet, and in my surprise, I read so many people have exact same problems on their vehicles (05 Matrix). I strongly believe that there is an issue with Toyota's airbag system, and I'm not feel safe to drive this car anymore. Someone really need to investigate on Toyota vehicles and issue a national recall on their vehicles before someone gets hurt.

46 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 02/02/2008

Initially the car would fail to accelerate when the gas pedal was pressed down. Even when the gas pedal was pressed down completely the car only went 5 miles per hour. This happened on several occassions. When the car was taken to the dealer the whole "panel board" was replaced. The car was still under warranty and the repair was paid for by Toyota. Then on 2/2/08 the car accelerated on its own, only stopping when it hit a chain link fence. An insurance claim and police report were filed. Additionally the horn was not working and the air bag did not deploy in the accident. The serviceman at the Toyota dealer advised the air bag was defective and Toyota paid for the repair of the airbag. This accident caused my insurance rate to increase. Also the accident negatively impacts my son's driving record as he was the driver.

Takata recall my wife and I had an accident in the freeway on our way home more than 7 years ago. We were travelling at around 50-55 mph when suddenly the car in front of us stopped. Resulted in hitting the back bumper of the car in front of us. The car sustained just minor scratched but our car was really damaged. My wife was hurt as a result of the accident who was sitting in the front passenger. The car's air bag did not deploy. I was still wondering until now, why? the damaged to the car was worth more than $8,000. Our insurance company, which was state farm did not mention anything about the air bag. I just found that out when I received the recall notice last week form Toyota. I can't really recall the date it happened, but I can get some information from state farm insurance.
