Air Bag Light On Problems of Toyota RAV4 - part 2

On July 25th I brought my car to the mechanic because the air bag light was on since last Friday. The mechnic told me there was a code on the air bag light was b1801. This is a common problem amoungst Rav4's. I think this should be a recall on this because it is so common amoungst Rav4s. I know it will cost me approximately $600 to fix this. Spiral cable failure in steering column causing airbag malfunction indicator light. (code b1801 - open in d squib circuit) Toyota is charging to repair when clearly they are having problems in many Rav4's with this issue. This should be a safety recall. $500+ for repair.

My airbag light on my 2006 Toyota Rav4 is on due to manufacturing defect. Toyota recalled the 2007 and 2008 models for the same reason. There are hundreds if not thousands of complaint about this issue on the internet. I contacted premier Toyota in amherst ohio about this matter and the service manager chris farmer toll me it would be $300 to test it and $500 to fix it. This is a safety issue that should be adressed as a manufacturers defect. Any help you can give me in this matter would be appreciated.

The srs airbag light came on. Overseas Toyota dealer technician troubleshot and identified a bad spiral cable assembly. Since I am stationed overseas I have to order parts online and wait for arrival. Contacted Toyota and received e-mail stating the recent recall for airbags did not apply to my VIN. Of course they also told me they do not recommend shipping u. S. Made Toyotas to overseas locations because Toyota dealers overseas cannot submit warranty work for u. S. Made Toyotas. I guess they are in essence stating they do not support the military and dod civilians who get transferred overseas because they will not help to repair their car, even if it is under warranty. Though my car only has 35k and the warranty expired, I wanted to see if the recall affected my vehicle, especially while researching online I saw many Rav4s with the same problem. Did not get an answer from Toyota whether the vehicle was safe to drive in this condition.

I took my Rav4 to the dealer because the air bag light came on and I was told that the car need a new spiral cable and warranty does not cover that part that I must to pay around 500 dollars to get it fix. Now my question is if it's a malfuntion why do I have to pay to get it fixed.

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that while driving approximately 75 mph, the air bag warning indicator illuminated continuously until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.

My airbag light was on. When I took my car in for the annual state inspection, I was informed that I would have to replace the spiral cable for airbag light that had shorted out. The assembly was replaced at a total cost of $442. 01. This vehicle has had an earlier recall for an airbag sensor and I feel that this should be a safety recall issue as well and not the financial responsibility of the car owner.

Air bag light came on one day after turning the car on and the light never went off after that. I had this repaired under a recall in 2011. I brought the car back to the same dealership and they told me it was the spiral cable. The cost to fix this was $500. 00. I feel that this is a safety issue with the air bag and is a defaulty system given that this is the 2nd time it has happened to me. I see on the web that a lot of people who own this car are complaining about this too. My car only has 60,000 miles on it and this should not be happening on a car with that mileage. Please help in getting this through as a recall.

Airbag light turned on after a recent recall that done by Toyota dealership. This is critical safety issue on the Rav4, which Toyota is not willing fix as part of a recall.

Air bag light came on. Mechanic says the clockspring in the steering column needs to be replaced at a cost of $600. Failure of the airbag clockspring in 2005-2009 Toyota tacoma pickups is the subject of an existing recall (NHTSA campaign id number: 12v092000); believe this is related.

Air bag light stay's on.

We brought our vehicle in to service recall notice for side curtain airbags. When returning home after service the airbag light went on. The Toyota dealer tested it and said it was the main clockspring. I subsequently had the clockspring replaced at my expense and it lasted a number of months before the airbag light started coming on frequently. I then had the vehicle tested by three different mechanics (two Toyota dealers) and they all said that the only indication they get when they test the system is the old, previously fixed clockspring failure indicator and all said that they have no idea why the airbag light is coming on. This is a serious safety concern as we don't know if our airbag system is working or not and whether or not it could go off anytime. It also makes it impossible to sell the car.

Airbag light came on and I took car to my dealer (for repair of another problem) on 9/22/11. I was informed that the spiral cable controlling the driver airbag was defective and that it would be about $500 or more to repair. I told then that I felt that it should be Toyota's problem to repair since it was definitely a safety hazard should I become involved in an accident. I have since found out that this is a common problem with Toyota's, especially rav 4's. This should really be a recall priority.

While driving, noticed that srs airbag light on dash illuminated, which indicates that the vehicles driver airbag is inoperative. Took into Toyota dealer, and was told it had a bad spiral cable/clock spring, and airbag module actuator. Was quoted repair price of $ 1297. 00. When I called them back asking for the 2 error codes read in diagnostics, a different service adviser informed it was only 1 code, b1801, which is for spiral cable, and not airbag actuator too. This should be a safety recall issue, and repaired by Toyota, since my driver's airbag is inoperative.

Airbag light came on. Thought this was due to the recall about which Toyota sent out a recall notice. When the vehicle was taken in to have the 5 recall notices addressed, it was stated that the light was on due to a airbag spiral cable that needed to be replaced in the steering wheel. It was stated that this was not covered by the recall. Toyota wanted @ $500 to replace the cable.

2006 Toyota rav 4. Consumer states air bag system is defective and has not worked for the past three months. The consumer stated the air bag light illuminated. A spiral cable was needed at a cost of $404. 56 to fix the problem.

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota rav 4. While driving approximately 35 mph, the air bag light illuminated. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician stated the sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 83,000.

My air bag light was on off and on for two years on my Toyota rav 4. Everytime I brought it in the mechanic would run a test and say that it was just a glitch in the system. We asked them if it was ok to drive and they said it was fine. On the day the airbags really messed up my friend and I were sitting in my car, I turned the ignition on and the side air bags on both sides exploded. It felt like someone had put a bomb in my car. My friend fractured her sternum and I had a severe closed head injury, a hole in my ear drum, and the muscles in my neck were messed up. The rav has been in the shop and they are waiting for someone to come out and do a final check on it.
