1 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2014 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 04/11/2015

To save money Toyota installed a video back-up camera with no audio warning. If Toyota would have spent thirty more dollars and installed an audible alarm my family may have saved a thousand dollars. We would not be replacing our garage door. Thank you.

4 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2009 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

Left automatic sliding door cable snapped after the right door cable snapped two months prior right after warranty expired. Toyota fixed the first problem but will not fix the other door and wants $2000 to fix it. The car is only 5 years old and Toyota knows this is an issue but will not help. This is not right. My child was seat belted in when the cable snapped and it whipped around and almost hit her in the head. This is very serious and Toyota needs to make it right.

8 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2011 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

Failure of struts on rear hatch. Rear hatch does not open on its own. Hatch slams shut. Risk of injury.

9 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2011 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 04/04/2014

Within one week of purchase, the driver side, power assist sliding door failed to open completely. After initially opening six inches it would only move four inches in either direction by pulling the exterior handle. Only with multiple pulls/jerks could the door be fully opened or closed. This problem would manifest unpredictably, most often with the driver side power door, but once with the passenger side. Otherwise the doors functioned properly about eighty percent of the time. This failure appears to involve a safety feature which prevents the door from advancing when sufficient resistance is met. In all cases of failure no mechanism for resistance was found. My fear is that the safety feature may also fail when it needs to perform properly, to prevent an arm or leg from being crushed.

10 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2011 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/03/2013

Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Toyota Sienna. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 13v123000 (equipment) and took the vehicle to the dealer for service. The contact was advised that because the vehicle did not contain a factory trailer hitch, then they would not repair the vehicle under the recall. The dealer advised the contact that he had to change the rim and wheel size in order to become complaint and fall under the recall. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not serviced. The contact had not experienced a failure. Kmj.

11 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2011 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 06/07/2013

A couple of months ago, we received an urgent safety recall letter from Toyota regarding the type of tires that are on our 2011 Sienna. When we ordered the vehicle in June of 2010, it was with full understanding that we had to have a vehicle with a hitch, as my husband has a motorized wheelchair that must be placed on a rack behind our vehicle. The dealership in sioux city, iowa (rick collins) stated that would not be a problem. When the vehicle arrived here in sioux city from the manufacturer, we were told that this new model of Sienna did not have a hitch on it yet, as it had not finished being designed, but the dealership had one and would put it on before we took it. Now we got the recall letter stating that the door placard needed to be replaced in the vehicle, plus we either had to take off the hitch or the dealer must change out the tires to extra load tires at no charge to us. Since we cannot go without the hitch, my husband told the dealership that they then needed to put new tires on our car at the dealers expense. They refuse to do that stating that the hitch is after market. But it is not after market. Rick collins Toyota installed the hitch before the car was ever in our hands. They definitely knew that we would not and could not have purchased a vehicle that did not have a hitch. Now we are afraid to take the vehicle out of town knowing about the safety concerns. What can we do to get this resolved? going to the dealership is definitely not the answer, as they are claiming all they are required to do is change out the placard, but that is not what the letter states. Obviously we will never buy another Toyota, as we have a hassle with the service department every time we go in there. After 4 trips there to get the remote start fixed, we finally did take the car somewhere else to get that issue resolved.

12 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 05/10/2013

My wife and I purchased a 2004 Toyota siena with 25,000 mi. It was a used vehicle when we purchased it. When we purchased the vehicle we also purchased a 7 year, 100,000 mile bumper to bumper extended warrantee that has currently expired. Approximately three months ago we notices that when coming to a stop there was a thump below the vehicle which we originally thought was the transmission. My wife and I brought it to a local shop and explained that when the vehicle hits approximately 15 mph we feel a thump below the vehicle towards the center. Regardless of breaking, accelerating or coasting we felt a thump. We had problems with the transmission while the vehicle was under warrantee. We brought it to Toyota for repair. Toyota replaced the transmission “under warrantee” at approximately 95,000 miles with a brand new transmission. We currently have the vehicle at a local repair shop. They have informed us that the way that the Toyota transmission works is that they have a pipe that runs through the radiator. That allows for cooling for the transmission fluid. We were informed that due to age, the pipe simply corroded and cracked causing coolant to leak into the transmission and transmission fluid to leak into the radiator. We requested the simplest solutions and we were told to replace the radiator and flush the tranny and hope for the best. The repair shop has had the vehicle for approximately a month because the ordered an aftermarket radiator in an effort to save us money. The after marker radiator did not fit. I was informed this past weekend that after speaking with Toyota, Toyota has recognized this issue and has discontinued the standard radiators and a new model with mounts now needs to be ordered. Our feeling is that this is a safety issue as well as a design flaw. What can be done?.

13 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2011 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 04/05/2013

The powered fold up ramp and motor locked up completely blocking wheel chair exit and entry access in the Toyota Sienna 2011 braun ability rampvan. The alleged manual ramp operation function failed to work trapping the wheel chair occupant inside the vehicle. This dangerous design has been made since 2011 and continues to be made into 2013. Braun has released another in-flloor ramp option this year which is a much safer design that is impossible to block door access even if it malfunctions. Braunability needs to recall this design and make a true manual release that disconnects from the motor incase of failure or lockup. My son is severely disabled and has alot of medical equipment. The jump seat bolted to the other side of the floor blocked entry and exit clearance for a wheel chair on the other side as a possible alternative emergency exit. We had to literally pull him out of his wheel chair and disconnect his equipment - all very difficult in the tight space and very dangerous especially in the case of an emergency. This is an extremely dangerous defect and should be address immediately. The van was towed and in the shop for 3+ weeks to fix this issue and replace the equipment.

14 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2009 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 03/14/2013

The automatic rear lift gate closes as soon as it opens. It been doing for pass few days now. Its a pain but had to go thru. Its expensive to fix,,,.

15 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

My sliding rear doors are sticking or not closing/opening at all. The rear right sliding door when opened with the door handle needs to be tugged in order to open.

16 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2012 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 01/13/2012

Brand new Toyota Sienna. The moonroof/sunroof keeps leaking. Been to the dealer multiple times and when we come back the adviser always tells us the van won't leak anymore only to find out the next time it rains, the car leaks again. We don't know exactly when this started happening( we guessed it leaked a long time ago due to the rusted parts around the glass) since no one really sits in the back. The dealer already replaced the glass and the rubber seals around it.

17 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 10/31/2011

The power sliding door on the passenger side stopped working. The buttons do not open or close the door. The door is so heavy that it cannot be opened or closed easily. The cable that moves the door snapped and visible (hanging outside the body). We had the extended warranty for 7 years and the car was serviced regularly, but this problem occurred after the extended warranty expired. The dealer says the whole motor, not just the cable, should be replaced, asking for more than $1500 for parts and repair. Snapped cable, loose and visible moving parts outside the body of the van, and a heavy and hard to operate "power" door present a safety problem, especially with the kids going in and out of the passenger side sliding door. I would appreciate it if you could take a closer look at the issue and have Toyota own up to its design problems. This issue has its own forums online, has its own facebook page and it seems that Toyota will not listen one customer at a time.

18 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 02/12/2010

Floor mat entrapment on 2004 Toyota Sienna le awd.

19 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2007 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

The rear hatch will close hard by its self on me or anyone else who is trying to load the back of the Sienna. This has happened several time over the years. Toyota fixed the problem at least twice, but the condition continues to occur. If I had a small child in my arms or my pet dog they would be injured as the hatch door closes on its own. The door alarm sounds and the hatch closes within a few seconds of opening it. It is difficult to override the automatic closing by keeping the hatch open by hand. It is almost impossible to use the hatch especially in the winter when the temperature is below 50 degrees.

20 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2008 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 12/12/2009

Toyota gas pedal stuck. I realize that there is already something in the works for this problem, but I wanted to add my story, my family and I were traveling in wichita hwy54 at approx 7pm. I went to pass a car when I pushed the gas pedal all the way down it. . . Stuck. I reached speeds probably over 100mph into an construction zone (50mph) where I shut off the vehicle and coasted onto the shoulder. I consider myself an experienced good driver with thousands of my miles to my name. The van had 2 adults and 3 kids in it. I have contacted Toyota and they told me to remove my floor mat and wait for an recall in late January. Hopefully this helps. . Thanks.

21 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2009 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 09/30/2009

I've seen that Toyota is recalling many vehicles because of loose driver's side floormats, but not the Sienna minivan. After I heard about the problem I noticed that both clips holding the driver's floor mat back had come loose and the mat had slid several inches toward the front of the vehicle. I think I just never thought much about it until I saw this recall and what happened to that poor family. I had to snap the plastic retention clips back into the grommet holes, but I wonder if this is happening on other cars as well, and if so, why wasn't Sienna involved in the recall?.

24 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2002 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 04/18/2007

Every door handle on the vehicle has broken from the inside and outside. Almost every Toyota Sienna I see on the road had atleast one of there handles broken off. I really think Toyota should have a recall om this. The door has actually swung open while I was driving because I could not tell if it was closed properll. It did not result in an accident or more damage but could very easilly have.

25 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2005 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 06/08/2006

: the contact stated the adaptive wheel chair lift failed to retract into the vehicle after the fuse blew. There is no manual option to retract the lift once the power is interrupted. Every time this occurred the vehicle had to be taken back to the bruno installation shop for resetting. The seat computer was reset each time. The lift is a bruno lift-up power mobility seat with the model number of tas 5000 l.
