My husband and I bought a new Toyota Sienna hybrid in September, 2023. I had a horrific accident on Wednesday, June 5 2024. The Sienna was in our garage and I went back in the house to get my cell phone I forgot. I had started the car, pressed the button to turn off the car but did not put the car in park as I should have. The car ended up going out of the garage and down the driveway- fortunately it hit a cement wall and almost totaled the car. We feel blessed that no one got hurt. I have never had anything like this happen before. I believe if this car was equipped like the gas powered cars we have always had driven this would not have happened. The key fob was around my neck. If I had to remove the key like in our Ford transit connect the car would have been in park-the car has to be in park to remove the key. I always take the key to prevent theft and being locked out. You cannot remove the key without the car being in park. I consider this a safety feature. These hybrid/electric cars have just the push button and have eliminated this safety feature. If the Sienna had had some kind of key to remove only when in park this could have avoided such a horrible accident. I had to chase after the Sienna going down the driveway- fortunately there were no cars going by or people walking by. I consider myself an excellent driver- you can check my record. I know I need to just manually check the gear. With all the new technology there should be a way to assist the driver with avoiding this mishap- they could put in sensors that take the car out of gear if the driver’s seat becomes unoccupied. The same situation happened to our old neighbor about 5 years ago- her electric car rolled out of the garage and took down a brick wall. Please help with getting this matter rectified as more and more drivers are getting hybrid/all electric cars. As you can see we need this safety mechanism on all cars.

I was at a complete stop. There were no obstacles around me or oncoming. When I pressed the accelerator nothing happened for a full 3 seconds, until my vehicle jolted forward at an excessive speed. Brakes were not working.

I purchased a 2021 Toyota Sienna (VIN: [xxx] ) from an authorized Toyota dealer in June 2024. At the time of sale, I was assured that the open safety recall (23ta15) would be repaired soon. More than a year later, no remedy has been offered, leaving me and my family driving an unsafe vehicle. Toyota’s own phase schedule indicates repairs should already be available in washington state, yet I have been repeatedly told no repair exists. This has caused serious safety concerns, financial hardship, and loss of trust. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

My sunroof exploded on 5/31/24 at 1:30 pm. I was driving about 55mph. There was no car in front of me or at my sides, and I was passing a rural grassy area. I did not see anyone or anything. It appears that the glass broke outwards. Fortunately, because it was 85-90 degrees, I had closed the shade about an hour earlier.
There has been several incidents when I step on the brakes and the vehicle seems to accelerate forward after what feels like an attempt to find the right gear when decelerating. This occurs infrequently but usually when decelerating along with an external factor. I was able to consistently replicate when I’m coming off the highway onto a service road then have to make quick turn at a corner. It feels as if the vehicle is trying to search for a gear and once it finds it there’s a momentarily acceleration forward.
Rear ac system the line is too close to the rear tire which was replaced once yet it is so close it gets friction and wears a hole in the line . Dangerous for people in the rear that may be inhaling a/c vapor while ac is running with a leak . Also bad for environment. There is no clearance the tire is almost right on the line so when you hit a bump you are rubbing it . Repair man says he has had to repair several lines more than once because of them being placed too close to the rear tire . Date below is third time this happened same vehicle. First was in 2016 second was 2018.

I turned right to park behind another car on the driveway and my car suddenly accelerated hitting the car in front. The collision was strong enough that the car that was hit then hit a barrier at the home.
Rear liftgate opens, but then beeps as if closing, then does close without us wanting it to, slowly halfway, then slamming down after half-closed as if hydraulics or whatever holds up liftgate is failing. Anyone under door gets caught/slammed on. Yes, dealer rep has seen it happen at our local Toyota service center. The vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. There aren't any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms other than the usual beeping closing sound of the problem prior to the failure, and they first appeared Wednesday, may 1.

Dear sir/madam, I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding a serious and ongoing issue with my 2024 Toyota Sienna xle awd, purchased in April 2024 in illinois. From the very first day, the trunk door has not functioned properly — often failing to close, randomly opening, or requiring manual force to shut. Despite repeated service visits across multiple states (IL, SC, nc) and investing considerable time, fuel, and lost income as a contractor, this issue persisted for over 18 months, creating safety concerns and inconvenience for me and my family. Key issues: trunk door opens on its own – even while reversing, creating serious safety risks. Malfunctioning power close mechanism, requiring manual closure frequently. Unreliable performance: door would close, then immediately re-open. Visited Toyota service centers at least 6 times across 3 states. Each visit took 2–3 hours, costing me work hours as a contractor. Customer service experience has been poor, especially with manager patte, who: failed to schedule proper service appointments. Directed me without coordination. Refused to escalate my request or connect me to her manager. Dismissed my request for compensation by saying, “it’s your issue. ” please help me on this issue. Thanks in advance.
I am writing to report a significant safety issue with my vehicle involving a leaking sunroof that is causing damage to both the seatbelts and airbags. I believe this issue poses a serious safety concern and could lead to malfunctioning safety systems during an accident. I asked my local Toyota dealership for guidance adn they told me to clean the drain tubes out with weed eater wire. We tried that and the drains were working fine. If that did not work, it would be 3-5 thousand dollars to fix it. I have reported this issue to Toyota cooperate, but they are not willing to acknowledge the issue because of the year and miles on my van. There are several other Toyota Sienna van owner that have experienced the same problem and yet a recall has not been issued. This is my family vehicle that I drive my young kids around in. I feel that Toyota is willing to put my family's safety on the line by not acknowledging this on going issue. Issue: the sunroof in my vehicle has developed a leak over the past year that continues to get worse. The leak is allowing water to enter the cabin during rain. The water appears to be collecting around the area where the sunroof is installed and is dripping onto the headliner, seatbelts, and side airbags. It soaks my driver and passenger seatbelts for days. Damage: over time, this leak has caused visible deterioration to the seatbelts, as they are getting wet and showing signs of wear. Additionally, the airbags may be at risk, as moisture could affect their proper deployment during an accident. I am concerned that the presence of moisture may result in these safety features malfunctioning when needed most. This could potentially be a fatal issue.
Sliding door does not open or close automatically. I think there was a recall for this issue.
Excessive heat coming from all vents and under steering wheel after long time driving. I am very concerned that the vehicle may be caught on fire and then cause injuries or casualties.
In the 2-1/2 years than I have owned and driven this vehicle, I've had no problems. On Saturday, March 16,2024, driving home from a 80 mile trip, as I deaccelerated to make a left turn onto my street (speed was 7mph) I tapped the break pedal and the vehicle went bonkers! the Sienna veered right at a high rate of speed that the front end cleared the curb; the back end smashed into the curb flattening both rear tires and damaging the metal hubcaps; the vehicle speed tore off the bumper and both rear panels. I was able to steer the vehicle: missing a large 2-foot high tree stump; two other large trees; a 10-foot high solid fence at the yard back. I then drove down the sidewalk to the next intersection and was finally able to slow down. This entire time, my foot was on the break, but the vehicle would not stop. The Sienna is now at faulkners collision center in mechanicsburg with virtually no front end damage but colossal rear damage. The vehicle had 5-full maintenance checks since purchase. I was not told of any suspected problems and never received a vehicle recall. I could have been killed or may have killed others as there is a playground on the corner of this block. .
Sunroof glass just exploded.
My vehicle steering/control has frozen a few times in the past 18-24 mos. This happens for me in wet conditions at slow speeds while trying to turn, usually to the right. The car also seems to slow on its own and pull to the side at these times. This has also happened while reversing out of a parking spot. I do not recall seeing any lights engage but I am more focused on steering the car safely and exterior factors at these times so I haven't noticed the dashboard. It feels like the power steering fails, and I have no control. Thankfully, I have not been moving at high rates of speed, nor been in a position to go into the lane of on-coming traffic or had someone in a lane near me, and have been able to hold in position or manually turn as much as needed. Steering seems to return once the turn is complete. I have been fearful of hitting someone or being hit from behind each time. My mechanic has been unable to recreate the experience and was unable to suggest a direct answer. I see others have had similar experiences and the same lack of answers from even Toyota. Having come across this website and seeing responses here to this exact problem I have had, I am hoping for more information or a recall soon!.

I am an owner of a 2018 Toyota Sienna le. The vehicle has an issue with the safety connect system. Dealer first states that the cause is the data handling being off, called Toyota turned it on and waited for a few days and still did not work. Called dealer to make an appointment for service, dealer advised that they reset the dcm twice and to wait 24-48 hours to see if it works. It still does not work. No lights present on the overheard place where the sos safety connect button is located.

This vehicle is a tire eater. It does not matter what the brand of tire it is- michelin, bridgestone, or yokohama, tires last, at best, 18 months of local soccer mom driving. After five sets of 50k mile, or better rated tires, at $800 to $1200 hundred per set, I think it is time that Toyota owns up to the fact that something is wrong with this model (4x2) vehicle. In my mind thjis is similar to the Toyota airbag situation only on a smaller scale. The manufacturer always has an out, such as, did the customer have the vehicle aligned, have the tire pressure checked, rotate tire on schedule, was it driven off road? my concern is that just about any driver would expect to get 30 to 40 thousand miles of normal driving from a set of premium tires. If the tires wear abnormally quickly while expecting "normal" tire mileage, this puts the driver in danger due to unexpected tire failure and possible tire related accident. This needs some data analysis.

I believe the computer caused the problem. The car is available for inspection as personnel at gettel Toyota in punta gorda claimed they couldn't touch the computer and have done nothing. Purchased Sienna in August 2021. In October at about 5:30 a. M. We were in the far left lane on a PA interstate, traffic came to a stop for construction. A delivery truck in front of us rolled backward a bit. When traffic started up again, our car would not go forward, only reverse. We tried "drive"--nothing--only had reverse. Finally, with cars whizzing around us, shut the engine off. Upon restarting, all gears were restored and we continued on to boston. We were shaken by this event. Since then, we have had numerous incidents of the car not moving when I put it (mainly) into reverse. I had to shut the engine off--restart--and it went into gear. Latest incidents--first week February 2024--I pulled into a parking space at englewood hospital. After visiting my husband, came out, started the car, put it into reverse--nothing. Shut the car off--restarted it, and it was ok. Ten minutes later, I pulled off onto the shoulder to take a call from one of his doctors and--no gears. Shut off the engine, restarted it and it was ok. I'm worried I'll stop for a traffic light on one of our 4 or 6 lane streets and get hit because our car won't go into gear.
Recall: OCS sensors may short circuit; 3tb15/23ta15 ; I am a owner of 2021 Sienna hybrid (VIN 5tdyrkec0ms004155) and was getting alert for the airbag and seat belt warning even when plugged in. I took it to a dealer in sunnyvale California (stevens creek Toyota; 4202 stevens creek blvd san jose, CA 95129; 408-984-8833) and they are not recognizing the recall. I was charged a diagnostics fee of $ 899. 93 and am being asked to pay $ 2000 to replace the car seat to fix the issues. Your advise is solicited. Best regards. Thanks -- surendra ****** 408-483-6240.
I just read something about a recall affecting certain models of Toyota vehicles under "unexpected movement. " I have experience similar situation with my Toyota Sienna 2023 when in drive mode coming to a turn or turning into a driveway, slowly pressing on the brakes, the vehicle continues to unexpectedly move as I'm pressing the brakes, then it responds a few seconds after. It doesnt happen often, but it did happen maybe 5 times or less, ever since I got the car around summer time 2023. Luckily there were no cars in front of me during these few situation, it could've been an accident.
When opening the rear hatch, it will not stay open and slams down if you let it go. Incredibly dangerous. I turned of the power doors and it still happens. I'm planning to take it to the dealership tomorrow.

Driving on dry roads at speed not exceeding 35 mph, the traction control system activates. It has happened on slight curves to the right. The traction control symbol lights up, a beeping sound occurs and it feels like the vehicle is braking. It has happened now on several occasions.
On December 27, 2023, I was driving down the highway in grand rapids, mi when the sunroof above me suddenly exploded for no apparent reason. Thank god I had the interior cover closed at the time or I would have been covered in glass while driving down the highway. I pulled over, took pictures, and called my insurance provider. They have given me a real runaround about getting it repairs, offering to cover less than 10% of the repair cost. Neither the dealership, nor the glass shop could offer any reasonable explanation of why it shattered. The insurance company adjusted the claim via photos. I am currently waiting for them to offer fair compensation so that I can get it repaired. Repair cost estimate is $1335. If this is a defect, as it appears from some online searching, it should be covered my the manufacturer. It appears multiple individual and class action suits exist.
As I slowly pulled into a parking spot, the car rapidly accelerated (as if I'd floored the accelerator - I didn't), jumping a curb. I slammed on the brakes trying to get it to stop. I ended up running into a parked car before I could get it to stop. I'm worried that it will do it again with someone in front of the car. There's nothing to inspect other than my broken fender from the collision. I don't know what component might have caused this. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to this occurrence. The car is in good working order. Note: the claim form attached says "no driver", but that is incorrect. I was driving; there was no driver in the other vehicle (a parked car).
The driver's side passenger door power cable broke. We had to turn off the power to all of the mechanical doors. There may have been a recall on this awhile back. The cable could be seen outside of the vehicle. We since have tucked it out of the way.

The sliding door on the passenger side opened while I was driving the vehicle. The door started out as closed. This is unsafe because I had a 6 yr old in the middle row of seats. I have not yet contacted the dealer or service center. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone. There was no warning prior to the failure.
I was driving and suddenly the 2017 Toyota siena just lost all acceleration. The car no longer could move in gear. I put car into reverse or drive or any other gear and the vehicle would not move. The engine was on. The parking brake was not on. The transmission seems to have had a major malfunction. I had to have my car towed and my enitre family was stranded. I then looked up tranmission issues and found that 2017 Toyotas have a serious tranmission issue under “ certain 2017 to 2018 model year Toyota Sienna certain 2017 to 2018 model year Toyota highlander coverage for ua80 transmission customer support program zjc”. I have approx 35000 miles on this vehicle and I bought it close to used from a kingston prestige Toyota dealership in new york state.
Passenger slidding door opens while driving . My child was in the back seat & could have been thrown out of the minivan contacted Toyota recall was fixed sept 6, 2017. Happened last week again 10/17/23, contacted Toyota and dealership will not do anything customer support program extension ended . This is a Toyota issue should be covered , there was a recall on this issue . Toyota says my responsibility to fix , this is unacceptable, the slidding doors are an issue with Toyota .
When the rear entertainment system screen is down it mostly obstructs the rear view. It is reckless that Toyota doesn't require the digital rear view to ensure driver can see out the back of their vehicle. I do not feel safe in my brand new car, and I don't even have the option to add the digital rear view mirror after the fact. I'm very upset.
The driver's side sliding door was stuck and I was struggling with it. Suddenly, the quarter panel window shattered (the window between the door and the back of the car) and the door came halfway off the track. It's important to note that this was not the window of the door I was struggling with and nothing visible hit the window. Luckily, my baby was not yet in his seat which is right next to the window. It is normal for people to struggle with a stuck door. If a non-visibly connected window suddenly shatters it is a significant safety risk.

Vehicle traction control system will activate around a curve and break the vehicle while the traction control warning system activates. Breaking around a curve in a wet road situation can be very risky. Numerous other Toyota owners have filed similar complaints.
The spare tire, which is normally secured under the minivan, fell off while driving at approximately 40 mph. My son, who was driving the vehicle, heard a sudden loud noise from the underside of the vehicle. He looked in his rearview mirror and saw something in the middle of the road. He pulled over to inspect the vehicle, and noticed that the spare tire was gone, which he was able to retrieve. I brought the vehicle to a local Toyota dealer, who indicated I needed a new spare tire carrier (at a cost of $329. 07), since the original unit had failed due to rust. The spare tire had never been used or removed from its manufactured mounting position since original purchase of the vehicle in 2014. There were no warning signs at any time prior to the incident that the spare tire might come loose from its mounted position. The safety issues associated with this incident are obvious, e. G. , another vehicle striking the spare tire or loosing control to avoid the spare tire; the tire rolling and striking a person, another vehicle, or damaging property, etc.
The car was not unlocking using the keyfob, it was required to log into the phone app in order to unlock a reconfigure the key. There was no sign of trouble, it would seem as if the vehicle had lost connection with the key fob.
I came to sellers home to look at his van. His ad said mileage was 77k and odometer also read 77k. When I ran the carfax, I noticed CA dmv registered title at 143k. Seller admitted to replacing dashboard when confronted. Address of seller is 24050 se stark st apt 505, gresham, or 97030. I don't have a name.

My passenger side sliding door began to jerk when closing with power button. The next day the cable completely snapped and it no longer opens at all. My driver side sliding door constantly opens and sometimes does not stay closed. I can hear the lock roll and it automatically unlocks itself. There was previously a recall on these doors completed I'm afraid I still have defective parts.
