We recently had two dunlop p 235 / 50 r 19 tires fail on our car. On 11/5/21, the front passenger-side tire tread and belt began to unravel while driving at freeway speed. This happened suddenly, with no warning lights, and we became aware of the problem when we heard a loud thumping noise from the unraveled tire striking the underside of the vehicle. We immediately exited the freeway, found a tire shop, and had the tire replaced. The following week, I inspected the other tires and found that the front drive-side tire was failing in exactly the same way. We immediately had that one replaced too. Neither tire shop that replaced the tires could identify a cause of the tire failures other than possible defects in the tires.

We purchased nokian wrg3 225/60 r18 tires as replacements for the original tires, because we wanted all weather capability. They were installed in November of 2016. One tire subsequently was damaged due to road hazard; was replaced with same nokian tire. In August, 2021, the tires needed balancing. The dealer (same place we bought them) could not balance them because three of the tires had belt separation. I did not check tire serial number, but assume them to be the original three we purchased new. We are awaiting nokian's response, as the tires are warranted five years from installation. It is unusual three tires would all suffer belt separation, all made at the same time. Logic would say it is a manufacturing defect.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Sienna. The contact was driving approximately 80 mph when the tread separated from the front driver side tire without warning. The vehicle was equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they advised the contact that the tire pressure monitoring system was operating according to design. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 32,400. Updated 03/16/11.
Had to replace complete set twice of run flat tires on vehicle within three years of new purchase although have under 30,000.

I have a 2006 Toyota Sienna xle awd minivan which was seen 10/17/07 for tire replacement (dunlop 4000 dsst run flats). I have owned this care for 1 year and 2 weeks and have only 14,900 miles on it. Recommended service has been done at the dealership twice since I've owned the car, including tire rotation. . . Once in February and once at the end of July. The car was driven only under normal road conditions and air pressures checked every 2 weeks. I am two weeks past 1 yr. Warranty and even though preexisting wear was "missed" by service dealer in late July, I am being charged for replacement. Toyota aware or previous problems with these tires, including class action law suit, yet continued to put them on cars. My tread wear was determined to be uneven with 0 depth on the inside tread of left front, posing a safety hazard and creating an unsafe driving condition. Report also indicates wear on edges and cupping evident on all other tires (according to the dealer, my VIN number did not match up with the "service bulletin" and I was charged for the installation of these tires and a wheel alignment) an attempt to contact Toyota customer care while the car was in the shop was unresolved as customer care never returned my call. Run flats were supposed to be a safety feature on my awd, instead they have become a safety hazard. One does not carry a spare, and in fact there is no room for one in this Sienna. You would not expect to need 4 new tires at <15,000 miles!.
Toyota Sienna (2004) run flat tires. Replaced in April 2006 under the class action law suit. Worn again prematurely. Last tire rotation the front tires were worn bad, the back ones were fine. Now, one month later, the front tires (which used to be on the back last month) are now worn. When the tires were replaced, I was told that they were re-engineered and there is to be no worry. I have checked the air pressure more than the recommended amount of every other gas fill up and they have held the air. Is it the tires or the car? Toyota says they will not replace again. It was only 15,500 miles now all 4 will need to be replaced. I don't understand the problem if they are holding the pressure and that is what the dealer and Toyota tell me is that I must keep the pressure at 35, it is!.
All four tires on 2006 Toyota Sienna were rendered inoperable due to excessive wear on inside. Vehicle only had approximately 15000 miles auto shop , hogan & sons, 540-338-7005, noted similar incident with 2007 Toyota Sienna with only 7000 mileage.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Sienna. The vehicle has dunlop sport tires. While driving at an unknown speed, the contact heard a grinding noise coming from all four of her tires. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic and he discovered uneven tread wear. The tires are not on recall. The dot number, tire model size, and tire size were unknown. The current mileage was 15,000 and failure mileage was 11,000. Updated 01/07/08. Updated 12/31/07.
- the contact called regarding the tires on the 2003 Toyota Sienna. The tire size was p21565r15. While driving the vehicle began to vibrate. The driver was unsure of the vehicle's speed at the time of the failure. The vehicle was taken to a Toyota dealer. The dealer diagnosed the driver's front and rear tires failed. The dealer stated that the belts sheared off in both tires. The tires were available.

The "run flat" tires on my 2005 Sienna have completely worn out to the extent that the steel treads are showing, with only 11,000 miles on the car. Obviously they are very defective.

: the contact stated while driving 70 mph, the right rear tire tread separated from the belt and the vehicle went into a ditch. A police report was taken and no injuries were sustained. The tires were regularly serviced prior to the incident. There was no warning prior to the separation. Updated 12/18/2006 -.
Run flat tires on my 2004 Sienna awd show excessive, uneven wear on outer treads as compared to inner treads on front tires. Toyota has a customer service program to replace run flat tires with uneven wear on awd models but the program is too restrictive. My vehicle showed this wear after 20000 miles but Toyota says I have not maintained the tires properly. I have never had this problem with so few miles on a vehicle's tires before and I have owned a lot of new cars.
I had two incidents of tire failure on the highway where the tires just came apart at speeds of 70 mph. The first tire had about 40k miles on it and the 2nd tire had 50k miles on it. I had a close call, but no accident.

Consistently poor tread life on run-flat tires for Toyota Sienna.
Michelin hydroedge tire: tread separated from the sidewall of the tire for the entire circumference of the tire on a passenger van. Tire was properly inflated just 4 weeks ago when one of the tires was replaced because of a previous road hazard. No apparent damage to the vehicle since the driver was able to quickly remove the vehicle from lanes of traffic to the road shoulder. There doesn't appear to have any damage (road hazard) to the tire.

Firestone tires 205/70r15, this is the 3rd tire of 4 that has split. The tread has split away from the belt with plenty of tread left on the tire. I drive the freeway 27 miles each way to work and I could have had a terrible accident. One of the 3 did blow but I was going slow and I did not roll the car.

I have a 2005 Sienna xle awd, and the tires failed at 20,016 miles (the tread was completely gone on the interior side of the two front tires). I had the tires rotated at 4,472 miles and 11,048. However, all 4 tires show excessive wear for this amount of mileage! the tires are factory-issued dunlop run-flats.
Extremely rapid tire wear on dunlop run flat tires that were original equipment on a 2005 Toyota Sienna awd van. The tires have been rotated several times. At less than 17,000 miles at least one is down to the wear markers. The others are not far behind. I have discovered that this is ongoing issue for nearly all owners of these awd vans. These are very expensive top of the line tires. Now a days 40,000 + miles is the norm! I can't believe that a $33,000+ vehicle is sold legally with such inferior equipment tires!.
On 2004 Toyota Sienna xle awd, it uses runflat tires (bridgestone b380) as standard equipment. I have to replace 1 at 5500 miles under normal road driving. At 29,000 miles, I have to replace all 4 tire due to excessive tread wear also under normal use. These tires cost 300% more compare to tires used on other Sienna models. Neither Toyota nor their dealer advised of these issues but just say those tires cost $10 or $20 more and only available through dealers. These unexpected tire wear and cost cause me being stranded on i10 at 11pm where no help can be found and cost more than $100 of towing to a dealership. Cost is one thing but less than normal tire lift expectancy caused safety issue when 1 or more tire unexpectedly malfunction or flat. Tires are not warranted by Toyota but tire company and bridgestone dealer were quick to blame alignment being the issue. My Sienna has been taken care of by Toyota dealer with all maintenance record kept and on schedule.
Premature wear (20,000 miles) on all 4 oem tires. Vehicle: 2004 Toyota Sienna xle awd tires: bridgestone b380 run flat tires - 225/60r17.
The problem occurred with a 2005 Toyota Sienna that I have owned for approximately one year. At 24,000 miles on the car (mostly highway driving) the front 2 tires were completely bald and the rear tires had almost no tread left on them. The cost for replacement tires was approximately $900 which included a $100 credit per tire from dunlop. I refused to put those tires on my car again since I have three small children and can neither afford the cost or the risk to their safety with inadequate tires. Dunlop will also not provide any sort of warranty on their new tires. The cost of new tires (non-runflat) was approximately $450. In addition to the four new tires we also had to obtain a spare tire and wheel and purchase a new jack. There is now a loose tire sitting in the back of our van that can be a safety hazard if we are ever unfortunate enough to be in a severe accident.
My wife and I purchased a 2004 Toyota Sienna limited awd with dunlop runflat tires as factory equipment. We currently have 19,700 miles on the vehicle and have been advised by our dealership that the tires are worn to the point that they all need to be replaced immediately. We have contacted both Toyota and dunlop with no assistance from either source to date. It is a well known fact, stated all over the internet, that there are serious problems with these tires yet for some reason neither Toyota or dunlop are being held accountable for the faulty and dangerous tires on these vehicles. Apparently they are waiting for people to be injured or killed before stepping forward and taking responsibility!.
Dunlop st4000 tires are worn out at 20,500 highway miles. Serious problem. This is a really big issue, as I have seen all the complaints on many internet sites. I am very disappointed with these tires. The car is less than a year old and I have to spend $1000 plus on new tires?????? I went to my Toyota dealer and they told me that there is nothing they can do and that I will have to pay for 4 new tires. I can't buy regular tires because there is no room for a spare tire anywhere. This is insane. I will have to think twice before buying another Toyota. I have been a Toyota fan since I could remember; this has really changed my perspective of this company.
2004 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated the tires tread wore at a very low mileage. These were the original tires on the vehicle. The tires have not been replaced at this time. There is approximately 21,050 miles on this vehicle. These are dunlop, sp4000t dsst. The contact noticed the wear on the tire last week, October 11, 2005, when the tires were getting their third rotation.
2004 Toyota Sienna limited awd with dunlap run flat tires. Vehicle is 18 months old with 16,000 miles. The vehicle began to have hard ride with increase road noise. Taken to local tire center, 2 tires tread worn off, the other 2 significantly worn. Advised that the tires were dangerous to cont to drive on. Cost to replace tires approx $1300. No spare tire is provided, since the run flats are standard equipment. Must then buy the same tire with the same problems. Contacted Toyota, they are unwilling to accept responsibility, dunlap was willing to prorate the tires, but still offers no warranty on new tires. Review of the internet shows this is a common complaint. I think the run flat tires are a good idea, but I doubt they were actually tested to be sure that they are safe and effective.
Dunlop run flat tires made specially for 2004 and beyond Toyota Sienna wear out in less than 20,000 miles for numerous consumers after regular rotations and balancing. . Read more...
2004 Toyota Sienna xle ltd awd purchased new with bridgestone b380 rft 225/60r17 tires. Tires wear out prematurely. Estimated mileage based on tread wear is 30k miles. We had a flat tire at 22,000 miles. To have even treads on all tires the dealer recommended to replace all 4 tires at a cost of $250/tire. This means is I have to spend $1000/year just to replace tires!!!.
2004 Toyota Sienna flat run tires have premature tread wear under normal riding conditions, my tires have exposed steel belts, Toyota nor bridgestone will stand behind their product.
My 2005 Toyota Sienna has bridestone run flat tires. I noticed wear on my front tires at 15,741 miles and rotated my tires. I was noticing a noise from the front of my car and had the brakes checked, they were ok but my tires were not. Took vehicle to a bridgestone tire dealer and he said that the tires were shot with 17,600 miles. They are contacting the manufacturer to see if they will replace or adjust the tires. Is it safe to drive this car with these tires in this kind of condition? mike berg.
Run flat tires are unsafe and tread wear life is extremely short. 2004 Toyota Sienna xle awd limited has oe dunlop sp sport 4000t dsst 'run flat' tires. Car has 19,000 miles and all 4 tires are completely bald. Car has been maintained by the dealer per manufacturers instructions. 'run-flat' cars do not have spare tires, jacks or tire well for storage, so there is no way to switch to regular tires without losing the rear cargo space. I cannot afford to lose this space as this is why I purchased this vehicle. New run flat tires will cost me well over $1100 per year at this tread wear rate. The combination of these tires with this minivan seems to be a serious problem. It poses a huge expense to replace these tires regular and is a serious safety hazard to a class of owners who generally have infants or young children. Nhtsa should act to require Toyota and dunlop to resolve this issue satisfactorily.
Uneven and premature wear on all 4 tires with progressively harsh and noisy ride on 2004 Toyota xle limited awd minivan despite proper tire pressure and tire rotation. Current mileage ~8,900 miles.
Voids and peeling of tread on all four tires. It appeared as if there were large air bubbles trapped in the tread at manufacturing. This was noticed after having only 30,000 miles on tires. Had to replace with all new tires due to mfg. Defect. Michelin only allowed 50% toward new tires. I was fortunate not to have been killed while driving with these tires. This has really emotionally upset me considering I had just driven from FL to nh with them.
