2005 Toyota Tacoma. Consumer writes regarding recall the consumer stated he received a recall notice to bring the vehicle in so the dealer could perform the accelerator pedal modification which may jam open if the floor mat is left unsecured. The consumer took the vehicle to a local dealer to see if the acceleration pedal was in any danger of malfunctioning. The mechanic could not find any fault, but said the accelerator could possibly jam if the floor mat is unsecured or if an extra mat was placed on top of the secured mat. The consumer declined the repair.

2008 Toyota Tacoma. Consumer states vehicle experiences lack of return to idle in 4th and 5th gear. The consumer also stated the vehicle would accelerate on its own at random times. The consumer stated he was unable to get the vehicle to achieve a steady speed. He stated he was attempting to do the speed limit of 55 mph. However, the speed went to 56 mph instead. 2007 Toyota Tacoma. Consumer writes regarding recall on vehicle for carpet and acceleration issues the consumer did not believe the floor mats were the problem regarding the sudden acceleration issue. The consumer stated he noticed when he moved his foot from the accelerator to the brake pedal to slow down or stop, his foot would sometimes push the brake, but also overlapped and simultaneously pushed the brake pedal along with accelerator because of his shoe size. The consumer stated the pedals were designed too close together.

41 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

2006 Toyota Tacoma has a problem with the floor mat/gas pedal. The consumer stated the floor mat jammed the accelerator pedal. An inspection revealed that the hooks in the floor intended to hold the mat back had become detached from the floor. The mats were aftermarket. The consumer stated the floor mats have the same character numbers as the published Toyota floor mats. There was a black plastic box that had recently become detached from the upper left corner of the front drivers side floor space which may have contributed to the mats ability to slide forward after the floor mat hooks fell off.

When applying the gas pedal it gets stuck in an accelerating position. Dealer says the problem is normal.

The throtle sticks badly. Often times I must stomp on the gas to get unstuck. I took it to the dealer, but they had no fix.
