Front Air Bag Problems of Toyota Tacoma

2005 Toyota Tacoma. Consumer writes in regards to safety recall notice. The consumer stated he took the vehicle to the dealer, where they found three other things wrong with the vehicle, which did not pertain to the recall.

2007 Toyota Tacoma. Consumer writes in regards to 5 recalls on vehicle the consumer stated over the last five years there were approximately five recalls on the vehicle and the dealer refused to remedy them, which made the vehicle almost worthless.

2007 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 ext cab pickup. On 12/5/09 I hit an icy patch and went off road and hit a tree. Traveling approx 40 mph. No airbags deployed. Hit the tree in the exact center of the hood of truck. Vehicle was a total loss. Subsequent inquiries to Toyota have resulted in two explanations for non-deployment. A) airbags are designed to go off on rapid deceleration (I told them I hit a tree) b) airbags are designed to go off when the engine breaches the firewall and enters the cab (I told them if the engine was coming into the cab, I would be screwed) they sent me a NHTSA airbag brochure that pretty much told me what I already know about airbags and totally contradicted what they told me about airbags. I know there was a recall of 05 & 06 mechanisms. Maybe I got an early 07 that used one. I don't know. I am not buying a Toyota anymore.

2000 Toyota Tacoma was traveling at 35-40mph. Restrained driver. Collision to right front portion of the vehicle. No airbag deployment.

Accelerator seemed to stick under normal driving conditions. . . Engine revs would not go to normal idle even in neutral. . . Brakes would not stop the vehicle at the high revs. . . Only solution was to put the car in neutral and shut the engine off. . . After working the gas pedal while in park, the engine idle speed went back to normal. . .

The consumer was involved in an accident and none of the air bags deployed.

While traveling on a residential street another vehicle ran red light and ran into consumer's vehicle. Upon impact, airbags didn't go off. The clutch failed prematurely. The drive shaft fell off while the consumer was driving. The vehicle experiences vibration. There was one injury.

While traveling at 35 mph consumer ran into another vehicle that was at a stop light head-on, and none of the air bags deployed. Contacted dealer, and dealer was going to take a look at the vehicle.

Consumer was traveling about 35mph on a side street and another vehicle jumped in front of consumer's vehicle and he hit vehicle side. Upon impact, dual airbgs didn't deploy. Dealership will be notified.

Single car accident resulting in severe front end damage into the engine compartment with no air bag deployment. Driver sustained severe head trauma as a result.

Was traveling along the road at 40mph and rearended another vehicle that seemed to have been going at 5mph. At time of impact, neither air bag deployed. Driver was slightly injured, but had no hospital treatment.

While driving on a 4-lane highway another vehicle came out from the right and collided with consumer's vehicle. Upon impact, neither airbag deployed. Contacted dealer.

When pulling into a turning lane went to apply the brakes and the pedal went all the way to the ground , then l tried to press the brakes again the brakes still did not respond. Then, third time the rear end brakes just simply locked up, rear ending a mercedes 30mph. Then, the truck went to the side and lightly hit another Toyota truck, niether sides off my air bags deployed and my truck received heavy front clip damage and heavy side damage, l was left with no way to get to work , since then the truck has been repossed and lm being sued appross. 30,000 dollars. L still thank god im ok and so was every body else.

While driving vehicle about 50 mph driver was forced off the road, crashing vehicle head first,and neighter of air bags deployed.

Front impact crash with a guardrail. Severe damage to front of vehicle at, above and below front bumper. Neither airbag deployed (driver side or passenger side). Driver suffered broken nose and other head injuries. Impact appears to have been to steering wheel. Passenger suffered broken arm. Impact appears to have been to front windshield. Was driving 55mph on a dry pavement. Fell asleep at wheel. Lost control of vehicle. Hit a tree. At time of impact, neither air bag deployed. Hit head on side door window. Vehicle had flipped over. The windows all came out. The seat belt restrained the driver.

On 10-28-98, a car was at a complete stop in front of consumer with no blinkers or lights on, consumer slammed on the brakes and rear ended the car in front, no deployment of the air bags during collision, consumer had on lap belt which kept from going through the windshield. Consumer's mother contacted Toyota to make a complaint and they sent out an investigator. They informed her on several occassions that their legal department would get back with consumer. To this day consumer has not heard from them. The truck has been fixed but with the same air bags. Two other trucks like similar in this small community of 2000, have been in accidents. One had the air bags deploy after hitting a deer, the other in their crash did not have the air bags deploy. Does this mean I have to drive everyday wonder if I get in another wreck will they work if I need them? what makes Toyota so mighty that they don't have to let me know what's wrong or are they going to fix it? * mjs.

While driving vehicle was involved in a frontal collision and the airbag deployed . Powder from the bag exploded out, choking the driver. Owner will be contacting the manufacturer.
