1 Warning Light On problem of the 2013 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/22/2025

The srs airbags both driver and passender side warning lights turned on 1/23/2025 at 6:06 pm right after I got home from work. The air bag failed to turn off when the seat belt is fasten to the seatbelt buckle. When the seat belt was in place and removed from holster, the indicator light lit up and a bell sound alerted me as the operator of the truck, the seat belt warning also triggered the air bag lights to turn on with a indicator srs airbags off. The indicator resumes as the airbag off lights remain on until the car engine is off. When the engine is turned back on, the warning lights of both driver and passenger seat belt is on.

2 Warning Light On problem of the 2014 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/09/2021

This is the 2nd time my Toyota Tacoma has been damaged by rodents: the 1st time (12/15/2015), the engine was running rough, the engine and trac off warning lights were on, and the damage was about $3,000. The 2nd time (1/09/2021), the abs, airbag, traction control warning lights came on, and the cost of the damage is not yet known, but it is likely to be more expensive (5 years later). I have had 19 prior vehicles in 46 years (8 chevrolets, 2 fords, 2 nissans, 3 hondas, 1 Jeep, 1 pontiac, 1 Hyundai, and 1 Chrysler), and I never had such serious rodent problems. Rodent damage has also occurred with my parent's Toyotas (who had many other vehicle brands in 70 years), and other neighbors and friends have had the same problem with their newer model Toyotas. However, they did not have these issues ever with other vehicle brands in the past. Also, I had a Nissan frontier at my current address in 2012 and 2013, and still have a Nissan altima at my current address, and rodents never chewed the wires on those vehicles. The problem is that Toyota puts soy in their wiring insulation, and rodents find it tasty. There is a resurrected class action in California about Toyota's tasty wires. I asked Toyota to take responsibility, but Toyota maintains that there is nothing wrong with their wiring. However, the wiring does contain soy, and rodents most certainly to like to chew on it. So, this is the second time my 2014 Toyota Tacoma has been damaged by rodents, despite me taking the following steps to prevent this from happening again: (1) place bag of moth balls under the hood. (2) installed 2 sonic sound deterrents under the hood; (3) installed 1 light-flashing deterrent under the hood; (4) sprayed the wheel wells and engine with peppermint spray; (5) inspect the engine compartment regularly for signs of rodents;.

4 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/07/2017

The airbag system is not properly functioning. The warning light is on and indications are that the system will likely not deploy properly if involved in a motor vehicle accident. It currently does not qualify for the Toyota airbag system recall, but interestingly enough there is an issue with the system in this current make/model. The problem was detected during a routine maintenance inspection/service at a shop.

5 Warning Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 04/29/2016

Airbag clockspring spiral cable assembly failed. Make, model, and year covered under recall 12v092000 but not this VIN. Problem started with volume control on steering wheel stopped working. About 2 months later the airbag warning light started to intermittently come on while driving. Soon after this all the electrical steering wheel controls including horn and cruise control stopped working and the airbag light was on continuously. I removed airbag and steering wheel and found the ribbon cable inside the clockspring assembly completely severed (see photo). I installed a new clockspring p/n 843060e010 and everything is now working.

The air bag warning light has come on twice while driving my Tacoma. The first time I was driving on the freeway and the second time I was driving on city streets. As soon as I stop the vehicle and unbuckle the seat belt the light goes off. The local Toyota dealer did a diagnostic check and test drive but they could find or duplicate the problem. They said there is no recall on the vehicle, which I have also verified.

10 Warning Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/04/2014

Takata recall? I have a 2004 Tacoma pre-runner 4dr. V-6. My airbag warning light came on approx. Oct. 2014 (50,000 miles). All that I have read so far is that it might be a broken "spiral cable" within the steering wheel. All airbag problems I've seen are with 2005 & newer vehicles? as of Dec. 2015 (60,k miles),I still have the problem but have not yet visited a dealership to identify the fault.

11 Warning Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 05/02/2014

My driver side air bag warning light is on all the time. This happened after the spiral cable recall. My dealer told me that the computer is bad. I feel the computer is doing its job telling something is wrong. Is it possible the cable they installed was defective? the vehicle has only 23000 miles. The estimate they gave me was $1200 for the computer. I need some advice and help. Thank you tom chase.

13 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/11/2013

Driver's air bag warning appeared, later disappeared. This has happened often over the last year. Activation of the turn signal sometimes causes this. Other times the warning light just appears by itself. A blow to the steering column sometimes causes the light to go out. This seems to be the problem address in recall NHTSA # 12v092000 but Toyota says my truck does not have a recall for this. Is my truck covered or not?.

16 Warning Light On problem of the 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/19/2013

I purchased a used 2004 Tacoma pick-up truck from an independent dealer and noted the front air bag warning light was illuminated. I finally took it to the Toyota dealer for repair in 2013. They replaced the spiral cable in the steering column which turned the air bag warning light off for a few weeks and then it became illuminated again. I took it back and they worked on it for several hours and said the only remedy is to replace the entire air bag assembly for $1600. I am unsatisfied since there have been several recalls on the Tacoma air bag systems from models 2005 and higher but not this year. How can such a similar problem not be a manufacturing issue? meanwhile I probably do not have proper functioning air bags.

17 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 04/02/2013

The airbag warning light came on and has mostly stayed on for quite a while. Toyota issued a recall for the spiral/clockspring cable on my vehicle in March 2012, which addressed this problem. However, my VIN was not included in the recall. The problem on my vehicle has gotten worse. I took it to a Toyota dealer shop and they indicated that it was probably the spiral cable, as well. Since that time, Toyota just issued another recall (April 2014), again for the same problem on the Tacoma and other vehicles. Again, my VIN was not included in the second recall. I contacted Toyota hq to address the problem. They noted it, but have taken no action. My vehicle has the problem identified in both recalls for the same vehicle, yet my VIN is not included. I'm concerned about my safety and others since this problem can prevent the airbag from deploying in an accident. I believe there could be a gap in the scope of Toyota's recall for this problem. Please help.

18 Warning Light On problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/31/2013

Airbag warning light on and horn does not work. After researching, learned this is an airbag clock spring (otherwise known as a spiral cable) issue that has a related recall for 2005-2009 Toyota Tacomas under campaign number 12v-092. That recall applies only to 7 channel circuit spiral cables and not the 16 channel ones. The 7 channel circuits are steering wheels without the audio controls, where the 16 channel circuits have steering wheel audio controls. Toyota dealer wants to charge $400 for part, plus labor. Absolutely ridiculous when this is an obvious problem that is occurring regardless of the channel circuit type. My daughter has a 2008 Toyota tundra with exact same problem.

26 Warning Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/19/2012

The vehicle has never been in an accident and is not modified in any way. The vehicle is 8 years and has 64,000 miles. Air bag indicator light came on. Dealer diagnosed faulty spiral cable, $500 repair. After repair, condition returned. Subsequently a recall was issued by Toyota for the spiral cable. New spiral cable was installed by dealer. Airbag indicator light returned within 1 week. Returned to dealer, new diagnosis: need to replace engine wiring harness. Cost $2300 + tax. Dispute started with Toyota USA. Toyota subsequently offered to pay for 1/2 of the cost of the replacement part, leaving me to pay the other half and the replacement labor. Text of recall: "due to combination of factors, a part in the steering wheel assembly in your vehicle called the spiral cable may become damaged. If damage occurs, this can affect the electrical connection to several systems, including the driver¿s air bag. Such damage would cause the air bag warning light to stay on after starting the engine, and the air bag may not work. This could increase the risk of injury to the driver in a crash in which the air bag is designed to inflate. " the critical part of the recall notice is "the spiral cable may become damaged. If damage occurs, this can affect the electrical connection to several systems, including the driver¿s air bag". It appears that Toyota recognizes the effect of a damaged spiral cable (the issue of the recall) on other systems but refuses to repair any such damage when found. The spiral cable has been replace twice, the air bag light is still on, and according to nys law the vehicle will not pass inspection because of the failure of a factory installed safety component.

29 Warning Light On problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/15/2011

The srs warning light came on at approximately 73,500 miles. Toyota diagnose it as a failed spiral cable. The cost to replace it was ~$590 (including the $89 they charged to diagnose the problem. After researching the web, I have found that there are numerous complaints about this component failing for the 2006 Toyota Tacoma. Since this is a safety problem (and should not fail at this low mileage), I am requesting a recall on this vehicle. Interestingly enough, the 2006 Toyota 4runner has been recalled for the same problem.
