I was driving down the road on the freeway where the speed limit was 75 mph. While driving my passenger said I passed out, floored the gas pedal and jerked the steering wheel to the left. I then drove through the median and into oncoming traffic reaching 90 plus mph, missing two cars, and jumping a 4 foot barbed wire fence without touching the fence. I continued into the desert until my passenger was able to put the truck in park hitting a few trees and bushes along the way. I then woke up when paramedics and first responders were already there. Me and the passenger were both wearing our seatbelts and my passenger did not aquire any injuries. I had a siezure to cause the accident and have had multiple ones since then a month ago. The front of my truck was mangled and the frame was bent in two places. The issue is I suffered 4 fractures in my spine top of the lumbar and bottom 3 of my thorasic. I am curious after talking to the mechanic who looked over my truck as to why my airbags did not deploy during the accident. In summary I was in an accident that totaled my truck, and the airbags did not deploy and I suffered multiple spinal fractures.

On 12/17/2016 my daughter and I had a head-on collision. The passenger side airbags deployed fine and prevented my daughter from having any major injuries. My driver's side airbag popped out of the steering wheel but didn't inflate. Due to the airbag not deploying properly I hit my head on the steering wheel. This caused me to be transported by ambulance to the local hospital where I received stitches in my forehead and continue to suffer from a dizziness/headaches - concussion. I have asked my insurer usaa and their contracted inspectors to inspect the driver's airbag without success. Apparently you need to hire your own engineers or inspectors to conduct an inspection. I have tried to locate one in wv without success. Usaa wants to close out the claim and salvage/auction my vehicle. I would like to get an inspection done first. I'm not sure how to proceed on this but wanted to report the incident to prevent others from having to experience this and hopefully save lives if this is a widespread issue. Thanks for your time.

The 9/8/13 accident involved a severe side impact. Both driver side doors were impacted and the center frame post required replacement. However, the side impact air bags did not deploy, which should have happened. The truck is still in the ship as of 9/25/13 because there are problems with the onboard computer recognizing the side air bags. I am concerned with the safety of the vehicle air bag system.

I was driving behind a Honda accord going around 65 mph give or take 5 mph, when the car in front of the Honda made a late signal and slow down. By the time I was able to react I rear ended the Honda and crushed the front drivers side of my truck. The seat belts did not lock and the air bags did not deploy. My truck went all the way into the back seat of the Honda. The damage to the front of my truck started at the passenger head light and went all the way across the drivers side and was pushed into the front of the engine. To my knowledge the air bags should of deployed and the seat belts should of locked. If it wasn't for the steering wheel I would of went through the windshield. Also the passenger airbags were on but didn't deploy either.

Was struck side struck by a vehicle running a red light. My head struck the drivers side window, transported by fire & rescue to local hospital. Hospital diagnosis was a "closed wound concussion". Other driver was charged on multiple counts. Mechanics that repaired my truck estimate the vehicle that hit me was travelling 40-45mph. My airbags did not deploy. Impact area on my truck was front driver side quarter panel and front left tire. Have viewed a side impact crash test for my make, model and year. In that test the airbags did deploy and the driver dummy hit head in exact location as I did. I would assume the crash test dummy would not have received a concussion due to the protection from the side airbag deployment. One of the reasons for my purchase of this vehicle was the safety aspect. The manufacturer marketed the airbag system as a key selling point. I did have my seat belt on at the time of the crash. I can provide police accident report, photos of both vehicles, repair detail for my truck and personal damage.

On 12/24/2012 around 04:00hrs I struck an adult moose in bear lake, canada with the front end of my wife's 2012 Toyota Tundra crewmax on the british columbia highway. The condition of the road was snow and ice but we had recently purchased aftermarket rims and tires on 12/18/2012 in California; 18in mb votex rims with bfg all terrain tires. The traction of these tires boosted my confidence in traveling at speeds of 30-40mph at night. We had traveled all the way from georgia without seeing any animals at night. The hid head lamps gave me a false sense of security navigating through the night in order to make the final leg to anchorage, ak for christmas day. To my surprise, a moose tiptoed from the woods on my right about 20 feet ahead of me as I intended to press on pass it. But all of a sudden it got spooked and darted into my path. I struck the animal broad side with the front end of the truck knocking it into the engine bay. Initially I thought the contact was not severe but inspection proved otherwise. The hood was crumpled up unto the windshield, and the radiator and motor was pushed so far back that it was no longer driveable. I believe my speed was around 30mph upon impact which surprised me that the animal was dead. The truck was towed to a local body shop for an insurance estimate as a total loss. I was concerned as to why the airbags did not deploy since the damages was so great. The tech explained that the sensors for the airbags are located behind the bumper of the truck where impact was minimal. Because the contact to the moose knocked him off his legs the large body fell into the engine compartment and could have been fatal had it a full rack of antlers. Thank god he did not! though we have purchased a 2013 replacement of the same truck, the airbags not deploying is still a concern as a design flaw and need to be addressed.
2011 Toyota Tundra. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle air bags and transmission malfunction. The consumer stated her husband turned down the wrong street, and when he went to turn around, he put the vehicle in reverse, and stepped on the gas, but the vehicle went forward over a forty foot embankment and ran into a large boulder and a tree. When the vehicle stopped it was still in reverse and the air bags did not deploy. The consumer stated the main issue, was the vehicle was in reverse, but the truck went forward. According to eye witnesses, it appeared her husband was having trouble with the transmission.
While driving on the interstate I made a sudden lane change to avoid an officer I believe was returning to the highway and a car suddenly came to a stop in front of me. I attempted to go around the car but it moved in my path again and we hit at full speed. I hit my nose on the steering wheel and totaled the other car. I am bothered by the fact that my airbag did not deploy. These are original airbags. I drive in fear of another accident that could save my life and the airbag does deploy.
