2 Warning Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 11/14/2017

Had highland Toyota replace the airbags under the takata recall. The airbag light was on prior to this repair but after the repair they had not been successful in getting the srs warning light to go out. Told me they had reset it and to drive it to see if it will go out on its own it never has. So here it is about 2 years later and still the light is on. I know I've seen other issues with the srs on Toyotas come to light could this be a relation to that?.

Airbag warning light. Diagnostic code 51 suggests spiral cable problem.

9 Warning Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 12/03/2013

I purchased my Yaris new in 2007. It now has 107,000 miles on it and the airbag warning light has come on. Dealer is telling me the spiral cable for airbag is shorted and needs repair - which will be about $500+ to fix, to ensure deployment if needed. Looking online I see other Yaris owners with this issue, and other Toyota vehicles with this same issue, and some recalls. I am very concerned as this is a safety issue and I feel a defect in engineering that should have a recall for Yaris also. Toyota responded with an offer to pay $200 to assist in getting it repaired or a special offer to buy another Toyota new - I took neither option believing this should be a recall for free repair, not cost me $300 plus.

10 Warning Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 11/07/2013

Last fall, my Yaris' air bag warning light came on and I took it to the dealership for repair. They said they they fixed the spiral cable, leading to the air bag. I asked why it had happened and they did not know. The repair was around $600. Today, I heard about the recall for air bag lights coming on in the Yaris and I called the corporate Toyota headquarters and was told the recall does not cover my car because it did not have a "7 channel spiral cable," even though the repair to my car was for the spiral channel. I am concerned that not all Yaris' are being included in the recall and that my car is not safe. (as of now, they do not even have a fix for the 7-channel spiral channel recall. ).

14 Warning Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 04/07/2011

Air bag warning light came on at about 75,000 miles. Only the dealership could diagnose problem. Ended up being the "spiral cable". $530 for parts and labor to replace. I was given no explanation of why it had gone bad or if it was a defective item to begin with. When I type in a search on the internet for spiral cable, the majority of the posting involve Toyotas.

16 Warning Light On problem of the 2009 Toyota Yaris

Failure Date: 06/23/2009

The airbag on the passenger side of our 2008 Toyota Yaris sedan is not functioning properly. The lsrs warning light has come on eight different times. We only have paperwork for six of the incidents. When we bring the car in for service, they just reset the light (turn it off) and they have asked us not to push the seat back, but to keep it in the mid range of the rail, not to recline the seat in the back position, but to decline the seat forward while a person is riding in the passenger seat. We were told by the technician that we should never let a child or small person ride in the front seat. We were also told that this condition could cause the airbag to go off while driving. They have never taken the vehicle apart to see what the problem actually is. They only shut the warning light off. People are afraid to ride in this vehicle. The dealership has now refused to honor their warranty on the airbags in this vehicle. They blamed a panel at the nh department of safety for breaking the vehicle when they caused the light to appear again after they test drove the vehicle. They had previously disengaged the warning light, so the panel did not find a defect' subsequently, they found for Toyota. The light reappeared minutes after the car was restarted after their drive in it. We requested that they would hear the case, the panel at the arbitration dept at the nh department of safety refused. We will now be charged for every time this vehicle has to have this warning light reset as well as driving a car that their :special" technician admitted they had no idea why this was happening.
