Takata recall. On January 12,2018 I was involved in an accident. A vehicle cut me off and I hydroplaned when braking. There were massive storms occurring. My concern is that my airbags never deployed. I slammed very hard into the median resulting in some lingering back soreness and truthfully a fear of driving in the rain. I received a mailer last week notifying me that this vehicle is now part of an airbag recall. Seen by the photos below, there is no reason why these airbags did not deploy. Something was not right here.
November 10, 2017 - I was t-boned by a motorist (who ran the light) on the drivers side while attempting a left hand turn thru an intersection. The 2010 Toyota Yaris I was driving was totaled by the collision ($8,266. 72 of damage to the drivers side). The Yaris side airbags did not deploy. The Yaris's left driver side door was collapsed into the Yaris cabin with enough force to break my samsung note 4 phone display & damage its internal solid state drive. The samsung note 4 was encased in an otter box and attached to my left hip via otter belt clip during the time of accident. My head struck a hard surface in the Yaris, resulting in a large hematoma on my left frontal lobe. Toyota investigated and found that within the span of 68 milliseconds, the lateral delta-v airbag sensor was accelerated from 0. 0 mph to 11. 1 mph. Yet the side airbag did not deploy. Per Toyota, since the side airbag sensor was deemed in proper working order and did not designate the collision warranted deployment of airbags, everything functioned normally. When queried what threshold was required to deploy the airbags (noting the instantaneous lateral acceleration of a 2300+ lbs vehicle from 0 mph to 11 mph was insufficient), Toyota insisted I hire my own engineers to research. Toyota's unwillingness to assist leads me to believe they are only interested in covering up a potential flaw in the srs airbag system utilized in the Yaris and potentially other Toyota vehicle models. Toyota's cavalier regard for the safety of Toyota customers potentially places millions of Toyota customers at risk of severe injury or even death.

I was driving southbound on 127 in glencoe kentucky and a deer ran out in front of me almost totaling my whole driver side of my car my air bag never deployed it was a hard hit I could have been hurt if I wasn't wearing my seat belt just getting whiplash. My headlight fender my front number my grille both of my doors and my mirror have to be replaced if possible I want to talk to someone I seen on here that my car has 2 open recalls in my car and I want them fixed as soon as my car gets done being fixed from the shop. I am very unhappy with this car I'm lucky my 2 year old wasn't hurt.
Our daughter was driving our 2013 Toyota Yaris on the highway approximately 60-65mph, hit a patch of ice and spun out. It is unclear exactly what happened after that as she has no memory of what occurred from the time the car began to spin and was headed straight toward a guard rail and then her being in the car on the side of the road. It is unclear how long she was there before she regained consciousness. The car has significant damage to the right front, left front, left side and left rear. Our daughter sustained a severe concussion with loss of consciousness and anterograde and retrograde amnesia, injured her neck and has a herniated disc at c5-6, broke a front tooth, and has numerous contusions, including on the left side of her head, left hip, and both knees. The air bags did not deploy. She was wearing her seat belt. I do not believe that she would have sustained the injuries, or at least such severe injuries, had the air bags deployed. There were no other vehicles involved in the accident, and there were no passengers in the car.
My daughter was driving on the highway, thinks that she must have hit a patch of ice because the car suddenly felt out of control. The last thing she remembers is heading straight toward a guardrail and turning to avoid a collision. The next thing she remembers is being on the other side of the highway. The airbags did not deploy despite the fact that the vehicle was damaged so badly that it was totaled by the insurance company. There was significant damage to the left front, left side, and left rear of the vehicle and to the right front of the vehicle. The right tire was missing and the wheel riml was badly bent on 2 sides. The frame of the car was bent on the left side, the left door was jammed ajar and the hood would not close. My daughter sustained significant injuries in the accident. She had a contusion on the l side of her head and a disc in her cervical spine was herniated and touching her spinal cord. Her front tooth was broken and she had bruising on her face and her left hip. In addition to above, the er doctor said she had had a traumatic brain injury. She is improving but has continued to have difficulties with focusing and sustaining attention, shortterm memory, intermittent blurred vision, and has had to drop out of school. The neurosurgeon who follows her now said she will likely need neck surgery in the future. I reported this to Toyota so they would be aware of the fact that the airbags hadn't deployed and that this might be a safety concern in other 2013 Yaris cars. Their response was troubling. They seemed far more focused on avoiding a lawsuit than on safety concerns. When I called them one month later to report that she was better and to ask about findings, they couldn't give any information as "the case" was in their legal division. Despite the fact that my focus was on safety concerns.
My fiance was in a nasty traffic accident. She was rear ended while stopped at a traffic light in her 2008 Toyota Yaris by a vehicle traveling at around 40-50mph. On impact she stated the seatbelt on the driver's side locked, then unlocked giving more slack as she projected forward, then gained momentum back into the drivers seat (now seated) when the belt locked again with remaining movement . The airbags did not deploy anywhere in the vehicle and the entire trunk was almost pushed into the back seat. Furthermore, her mother was in the passenger seat and recalled something similar occurring in the passenger seat as well. Needless to say, the vehicle was declared totalled by the insurance company.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Yaris. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph going around a curve, the vehicle lost power steering. The steering wheel seized and excessive force on the steering wheel was required. As a result, the contact went into oncoming traffic, the vehicle flipped and crashed into a ditch. The air bags failed to deploy. The driver sustained neck and back injuries. A police report was filed of the incident. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact received a notification for recall NHTSA campaign number 14v168000 (air bags). The VIN was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 93,000.
I braked to avoid hitting an animal which emerged from the ditch. The car fishtailed, lost control and flipped once landing on it's top. The driver's side was damaged and the insurance company totaled the car. I did hit my head against the driver's side window, but the blow was not severe. My concern is that the side airbag did not deploy. The anti-lock breaks did not work either and have only worked intermittently for quite some time.
