2 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2009 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 08/13/2017

While driving down a rural highway in clear conditions and light traffic,at about 45 mph, several lights came on the dash, and the tachometer started jumping up and down I had no acceleration, and was lucky to be in a place to get off the road. I don't recall if I touched the brakes or not just before this happened, as it is sometimes necessary when driving with other cars on the road, but there was no hard braking. I was just driving normally. If I touched them at all, it would have been lightly,. The car would start fine but no gears. Towed to dealership. Their report said "small metal shards about the size of a grain of sand" in the trans fluid, and "it appears the transmission commuter did not disengage the clutch in use as it engaged the clutch for the next gear and tried running the vehicle in two gears at the same time at cruising speed. , which in turn damaged the transmission internally and destroyed the dual clutch friction discs. " I recently found out that there is a recall for the abs module on my vehicle. Another driver (NHTSA id 10944646) indicated that when his abs module failed, that his vehicle randomly downshifts to first gear, and is unable to switch back. He said "what starts as a simple brake problem is now an undriveable car". Is this what happened to my car? could my abs module failure cause the transmission to downshift while travelling at 45 mph? should the transmission repair be included in the abs recall program? this was a very dangerous situation, and I had no warning before it happened. Also, it was very hot out, about 90 degrees, if temperature plays a role in this situation. I am making an appointment to have the abs issue repaired under the recall, but volkswagon is taking no responsibility for the transmission failure. They said it is out of warranty. I think they may be related, and customers need to know if this is a possibility.

3 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2008 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 05/03/2010

My car is a 2008 vw Gti with the dsg transmission. The transmission is very noisy, extremely difficult to drive at low speeds, and is jerky and bucks when downshifting. At low speeds, the clutch engages with a jerk and the car lurches forward to accelerate. When down shifting, it is difficult to brake because as the gears are disengaging and reengaging in a jerky manner, the amount of brake force required to stop changes too. I received a recall letter about this from Volkswagen of America, but the dealership denies any letter was sent to me and that there is nothing wrong with my vehicle.

4 Transmission Not Engage problem of the 2007 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 08/28/2009

I was at an intersection with a traffic light, waiting to turn left. As soon as there was a safe and reasonable gap between oncoming cars, I hit the gas at approximately 1/4 throttle to make the turn. However, the car moved for a bit and then it felt like the transmission was not engaged anymore. The car was basically moving by momentum and not by engine power. I noticed that the engine seems to be revving freely, as there is no correlation between my throttle input and the movement of the car. In fact, when I noticed that the car was not moving by engine power, I instinctively put more throttle to more than 1/2. It made no difference and that was how I knew that the transmission was not engaged. If it was traction control, the engine would not rev since traction control would cut the fuel. Hence, it is most likely the transmission, specifically, the dsg transmission. My car coasted to safety without any incident, and a few seconds later, the car went back to normal. I have had this experience several times before and it scared me every time because I could have easily been hit by the oncoming traffic, if the vehicle does not see me or cannot stop in time. I mentioned this to the dealer service the first time it happened, but they said they cannot replicate it and thus, they can't and won't do anything. But, for me, it is a serious safety issue, whether they can replicate it or not. I just want the Volkswagen of America to take responsibility for their unreliable/ faulty transmission.
