36 Car Stall problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/18/2019

The vehicle stalls intermittently, losing power to the engine. At first, it began to happen monthly (50,000 miles) only while the vehicle was stationary (at stop lights or idling in the driveway). The engine would lose power and the battery light would come on, and the vehicle could be started again immediately. The vehicle also exhibited lurching acceleration at low gears. It would not trigger any codes (for either issue), and multiple vw dealerships were unable to replicate and diagnose the problem. The stalling then occurred while driving (70,000 miles), causing the steering to lock up. This occurred while on a freeway at 70 mph; the vehicle had to be pushed off the freeway by an officer and then towed. Still, the vehicle did not produce any codes. After over 1 month at the dealership service center and replacement of 4 different wires that appeared corroded, and the transmission valve body, the same issues persisted. The stalling began to happen more frequently, both while stationary and while driving, and began to trigger the epc light (80,000 miles). By this time it was clearly unsafe to drive. Not willing to rent a car for an unknown duration for the service center to attempt to replicate and diagnose the issue, I was forced to purchase a new vehicle.

37 Car Stall problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/08/2019

Twice stalled at a traffic light, currently has engine malfunction code p2015 for intake flap valve failure. Vw states it is a known problem for the ccta engine code for 2011-2012 vw 2. 0t tsi engines. However since it wasn't extended to my vehicle even though they are the same they will not honor the extended warranty because NHTSA didn't identify my vehicle year yet.

38 Car Stall problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/28/2019

"the engine may idle rough and stumble upon acceleration. This may be due to faulty engine control module software misadjusting the valve timing. " thi is the current safety recall for the same make model and year of my car, however, my VIN has not been included. This is the issue with my car. It will happen while in park, when slowing down to stop at a stop sign, a light, or in a drive thru. My car has stalled as a result at a stop sign and at a light. Last time this happened was yesterday.

42 Car Stall problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/25/2018

My vehicle starts to stall out while either pulling out in front of traffic or while sitting at a stop light. The car does not stall out completely but for 4 seconds + the car will be non responsive to the gas and the tachometer goes to 0 which when pulling out in front of someone with the car sitting idle when its supposed to be moving is very scary. This happens randomly and last occurance happened today.

43 Car Stall problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/28/2017

Vehicle stalls intermittently since purchase, commonly when exiting a freeway to a stop or during rush hour(stop/go)traffic. Before stalling, vehicle will jerk, rough idle, and delay acceleration. Stalling may occur at a stop after high speed, however stalling has also occurred during driving after a high speed to low speed departure. When vehicle stalls during driving, both the wheel and brakes lock up commonly. It takes putting it in neutral while rolling and attempting to start several times before ignition kicks in. This has been dangerous as the only braking would be a gradual emergency brake pull and there is no additional steering, thankfully I have had straightaways the times it has happened, however I have been forced to go through red lights with my hazards on, laying on the horn. Vw has attempted repair 5 times for same issue with no resolve. Lights and codes come and go intermittently after stalling. One or both of the previous issues mentioned occurs on a daily basis as of the moment. The ftc, bbb, and attorney general for the state of michigan have all been made aware of the situation and the attorney general's office recommended I report it to you.

44 Car Stall problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/05/2017

When driving the low oil pressure light comes on and goes off 4 or 5 times then is perfectly fine the rest of the trip. It happens in cold and hot weather. When the low oil pressure light comes on, it's always when I let off the accelerator to come to a stop. Once I start moving again, the light goes off. The correct oil/filter have been installed, vw dealership said it happens all the time and the oil pressure sensor was bad. I changed the sensor and it still does the same thing. While researching it on google, it appears a lot of people have this same issue, but no one has a solution. Vw dealership has lied to me before so I don't trust them working on my car.

45 Car Stall problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/13/2017

(ah missing dealer) tl the contact owns a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta. While driving 15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle, but the vehicle stalled again. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the failure was due to the timing chain slipping. The contact was given the option of replacing the engine or performing a timing chain service and valve replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 64,475.

46 Car Stall problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/17/2017

We purchased our 2013 Jetta in November 2016 from casey Chevrolet, a "certified used vehicle" dealership in our area. A couple months after the purchase, we were having trouble with the car stalling as well as transmission troubles. The vehicle has stalled on my pregnant wife and 2 year old at least four times. Once she was at a stop light and it completely shut down, the next she was in a fast food drive-through line, the third time she was trying to maneuver a turn, and the final time she was backing out of the babysitters drive way. With respect to the transmission, there have been many instances where either she or I would be attempting to merge or just need to pick up speed and in between shifts the car would hesitate and then shift very aggressively. We have contacted the dealership multiple times and each time we take it in they can't find a problem so they give us the car back. On the other hand, they have "solved" the transmission problem twice only for it to reappear at a later time. They have refused to replace the vehicle or refund us the purchase price. We have also contacted Volkswagen who likewise refuses to refund or replace their product. Right now the car is parked in our driveway because we do not feel it is safe to drive. My wife is now driving my truck and I am in my older car from college. All the while, payments still have to be made which is very frustrating. I feel that two companies I thought were trustworthy have taken advantage of my family and I.

47 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/15/2017

The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control). Later, when the vehicle was started, the abs, brake, epc, and esc indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to autonation Volkswagen las vegas (6375 w sahara Ave, las vegas, nv 89146). The vehicle was not repaired because another unknown repair needed to be completed first. The vehicle was then taken to findlay Volkswagen (983 auto show drive, henderson, nv 89014) where the previous dealer's assessment was confirmed. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the check engine and epc indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the contact was unsure of the diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that they would not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 3,000.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

49 Car Stall problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/29/2016

I left work to pick up my children 3 times in a short trip the car cut off, it seems as if you don't give gas the car will stall and quit. I have started trying to hold the brake and give gas to prevent from it cutting off at stop lights, the car will also cut off in motion if not given gas. I can't file a complaint everyday but not one day goes by that my car don't cut off.

50 Car Stall problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/31/2016

The failure mileage was 45,600.

51 Car Stall problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/08/2016

One day I was pulling out of a parking lot onto a small street with a slight hill. Felt like the car was stalling but I thought maybe I didn't press on the gas hard enough. The car rolled slightly backwards until I hit the brakes. I tried pressing the gas harder. Next thing I knew, the engine was off and battery warning light came on. A couple of other lights came on as well, but those come on and then go off often so I don't know what to make of that. The next day I was driving down the road and as I slowed down with traffic approaching stop light the vehicle started to shake as if it was trying to quit on me. I pulled over into a bank parking lot to stop and restart the car. Another light came on but it is off now. I'm worried that this will happen again and result in an accident. Not sure what is wrong or if the vehicle is safe to drive.

53 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/03/2016

Car kept stalling after take off when you accelerated. When taking it to the repair shop it would not start and had to be towed there. When they got it they discovered all but 1 quart of the oil in the engine was gone. They determined that this malfunction damaged the engine and the engine would have to be replaced. Have the oil changed every 3-5000 miles and it wasn't due for an oil change for another 1000 miles or so. They have no idea why this happened and Volkswagen won't do anything about it. All of this took place in the city. We were to afraid to take it out on the highway. Car has 109000 miles on it and has been a lemon from day 1. This was just the icing that topped the cake.

55 Car Stall problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/11/2015

While driving straight on a city highway, the car stalled, and would not restart. This happened in moderate traffic, but we were able to coast out of the road and into a parking lot. The dealer where we bought the car analyzed the fuel system, and ruled that out. He found a bad fuse related to the fuel pump, and claims at this time that it is probably an electrical issue. At this time, the exact cause remains unknown. This is the third time that we've had the same problem, though the previous two times the dealers claimed that it was a fuel system issue.

56 Car Stall problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/02/2015

My Jetta se 2013 keeps stalling while driving. It happened since I bought it and took it to the dealership a couple of times, and nothing wrong was found. It has happened a few times during the highway and almost have been in a couple of deadly accidents. This has also happened while driving in regular streets at about 30-40mph. I have been reading that this is a common issue, but so far vw has not done anything about it. Also, both headlights are not working anymore. It seems might be an issue with some sensors, but nothing that they have been able to identify.

57 Car Stall problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/15/2015

Engine runs rough, sputters and stalls randomly. When stalls, some lights flash and states service needed. Dealership didn't find any faults. If stalls on highway this can be life threatening. Steering wheel pulls hard to the left even with car properly aligned and tires air pressure reading accurately full. Just had car serviced again no faults found. Ignition issue with car not shutting off. 20 minutes after parking and trying to turn car off with no prevail. Had car serviced and was gifted a free repair since my 2012 Jetta has only 22,000 miles on it. Ignition replaced but other issues still exist. Paid out of pocket for servicing this vehicle multiple times since all these issues came about conviently after the warranty period ended.

58 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/24/2015

I was driving down the street when a loud beeping and the red abs failure + every light on dashboard lit up. Every gauge stopped working (the gas gauge, speedometer, etc) I was close to home and carefully proceeded to the house. After a half mile the car stalled and the engine died. Because I was prepared for an event, I immediately set hazards and rolled to the side of the road. I restarted the car and made it the rest of the way home (2 blocks) without it stalling again. I have not driven the car since, I took it the vw dealer and it was determined the abs module failed / broke and caused the problems. This is obviously a manufacturing the defect which can cause an immediate harmful affect. If I was on a highway or being careful far beyond any normal sense I could have easily been in a life threatening accident.

59 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/18/2015

We were driving on down the road and the cars lights started blinking and then car stop running and stopped dead in the raod. Could not get it started agian. If it had been on the freeway I am sure I would not be typing this we would be in hospital or worse. We had to get out and the sterring was not wroking to get it to side of road. I am elderly and do not have alot of strength. We had to pay extra to aaa to tow it since we were far away from dealer. The dealer called and said there was metal shavings in fuel line and componnents. I reserched online and have seen several of the same things happening to other cars. This is a real safety issue. . 60 Car Stall problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/18/2015

The car loses power, stalls then it dies. At times it speeds up, and stalls dies without warning. Loses all power, found recall in reference to this issue. VIN# matches series, matches date, and place where the car was made, except for the last few digits. Recall 11v19600, and vw will not replace harness to electrcial fuse and circuit breaker. I need to help to get this resolved. I have been battling the dealer and vw of America since 03/20/2015 until today 06/26/2015.

61 Car Stall problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/09/2015

Traveling along at highway speed. Car sputtered and died. I was able to pull over and be towed to a repair shop. Apparently there is a well-known design flaw in the intercooler intake pipe on all Volkswagen tdi (diesel) engines since 2009 that causes moisture to develop in the intercooler intake pipe during cold weather. If enough moisture collects in this pipe, it will get channeled to the engine and be fed into the cylinders, causing the car to sputter and stall exactly as mine did - or to simply not start on cold days. Other side effects of this, are severe engine damage. Vw is well aware of this issue, and has issued a TSB about it. "TSB# 21 11 06 / 2025464 frozen air charge cooler" and there is a repair part they have already designed - # cold weather ic kit 1k0-198-803-b. . . However, the part is only made available upon request and at owner expense if out of warranty. This is not a warranty issue; this is huge safety hazard and a design flaw that vw needs to correct for all owners. This situation also, apparently does not throw any codes to the vehicle computer, as there are no sensors of any type in this intercooler pipe. The only way to determine that this is the cause, it to put the vehicle up, and remove one end of this hose and see if water or 'sludge' drains out of it, and this pipe would probably be destroyed in any front-end collision, as it's far forward in the engine compartment. There is a ton of information about this all over the internet. Here is a link to just one of the articles I found after this happened to me. . Read more...

62 Car Stall problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/20/2015

64 Car Stall problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/09/2015

Tried to start vehicle started once then stalled immediately. Tried a second and third time vehicle would just click. Let car sit 14 hours vehicle clicked once then started and ran rough with white smoke coming out of exhaust. Read up on hard starts and found out about intercooler freezing. Pulled tubing off and found approx. 2-3 oz of clear water and 4-5 oz of green sludge in the intercooler piping. Numerous instances of this have occurred even on the highway some of these have resulted in a condition called hydrolock resulting in bent connecting rods. This has also occurred in vehicles being driven at highway speeds. At highway speeds this will cause a rapid loss of engine power possibly causing a vehicle accident. There are numerous forums noting this in 2009-2012 models and possibly 13-14 models.

65 Car Stall problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

I purchased my car in mid-Feb 2014 and it performed flawlessly the winter of 2014. I started my car on Monday Jan 5 (oat +5f) let it idle for a minute and drove 35 mi to work on the highway (rpm >2500), I don't have a temp gage, but my car did not seem to warm up like normal. (usually its warm after about 3 mi, and hot after 10-15). After work (+8hrs later) I started my car (oat +15f), letting it idle for a minute then drove out of the parking garage (~100') and my car lost power, and had a flashing glow plug light, I believe this was limp mode. I pulled into a parking lot, let my car idle for a few minutes and there was no change. I shut the car off, waited a minute or two, and restarted the engine, appeared to run fine and I continued my drive home. I pulled my vagcom codes and saw that p0299, low boost pressure, I attempted to get my car into the dealer, but they were too busy. I did not drive my car Tuesday, but drove it to and from work Wednesday without a problem. On Thursday morning I started my car (-5f), it idled for less than a minute and then died. It continued to turn over, but would not start. I pulled the codes again (did not clear them from earlier in the week) and saw that I had a new fault p0087, low fuel pressure. I had my car towed to the dealer (vw roadside is slow, but free) and did not hear anything from the dealer until Friday afternoon. I was told that ice was discovered in my intercooler and that it had been replaced and the cold weather kit was installed.

66 Car Stall problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/06/2015

I had driven the car earlier that day (about 40 miles) with no problems. I got home at about 7:30pm and parked the car outside our house. At about 2am, I heard a beeping car horn. I looked outside and saw flames coming out of the front drivers side of our beautiful 2011 Jetta sportwagen. I dialed 911, the car continued to burn until the fire dept arrived and put it out. The car is a total loss. I'm only happy it wasn't parked inside a garage where the fire would have destroyed our house as well. No work had been done on the car recently and no aftermarket options were installed. I have only one question - what could cause a completely cold car (not driven in over 6 hours) to suddenly burst into flame?? thank you.

67 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta wolfsdurg. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the check engine and electronic power control warning lights illuminated. The vehicle stalled and was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. Pp.

68 Car Stall problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

Went to start my car and car would not start. Called local vw dealer. They thought I should try to get a jump for the battery. I knew it was not the battery, as it is a new car. They suggested I call vw roadside assistance, which I did. The car was towed to the closest vw dealer. Was told the car was in hydrolock and ice was found in the hose and intercooler. After removing the glow plugs, ice was also found in the cylinders. In addition, ice was also found in the oil and oil pan. I was told by the service manager that this was a known issue for vehicles in the northeast. The "fix" was to install an updated intercooler, pressure sensor and valve in the front of throttle body. My concern is that if this is a "known issue" why is there no recall. Also, I feel that the engine has been comprised being that there was ice found in multiple places. I called the dealer where the car was purchased (not same dealer that did repair) and let them know about it. I was also seeking an extended warranty so whatever damage was done to the engine would be covered in the future. Dealer told me to call vw directly, which I did and got nowhere. I was told that there was still a lot of time left on my current warranty and if something did happen to the engine after the original warranty was expired, they would take this incident into consideration. Not very reassuring to someone who drives over 100 miles per day.
