Uncontrolled acceleration as I was accelerating to enter traffic on the expressway the engine lost partial power. I reduced accelerator pressure, and then the engine seemed to recover. I then reapplied pressure to the accelerator, and it seemed normal but when I put in the clutch to shift, the engine accelerated beyond redline. I completed the shift, and car began to accelerate rapidly. I tapped the accelerator, and the acceleration stopped, and then after about 3 seconds it began to accelerate again. I attempted to reduce acceleration with brakes, but it was only partially effective. The only way to effectively reduce acceleration was to take the car out of gear. (thankfully this was a manual transmission) when I shifted into neutral, engine rpms would exceed redline. The excessive rpms ultimately destroyed the engine (big bang, lots of smoke). In hindsight I would have turned the ignition off but did not think to at the time. . The safety implications are obvious. This event occurred without warning and under normal driving conditions. I suspect an engine sensor anomaly combined with computer software failure. (maybe an rpm sensor?) specific cause is unknown, and situation cannot be recreated since the engine has failed. The diesel particulate filter warning light was on, and had been on for several weeks. It did not clear using the recommended remediation in the manual. The vehicle has not been inspected by the dealer or other interested parties, but is available for inspection. (this is one of the vehicles recalled for “diesel-gate” purchased from vw after reprogramming).

2013 Jetta tdi with 92k miles. I am the third owner of this car which has been regularly maintained since new with all service records, including a 2019 emissions modification per vw recall. I bought this vehicle less than a year ago. My son was driving to work when the car shut off without warning. He was able to restart it and park safely and had it towed home. After replacing the battery and a fuse, the car continued to show a code for the ecm power relay load circuit . We took it to the mechanic to have it inspected, and learned that the high pressure fuel pump had imploded and metal shavings were found throughout the entire fuel system. This is evidently a common and very costly issue that vw has an obligation to fix. They knowingly continue to use a defective part that is essentially a ticking time bomb without regard to the owners safety and the financial ramifications of the repair. All vw vehicles with this defect should be covered by vw, not just selected model years and models. This causes catastrophic damage and vw is completely negligent by not doing what is right by the customer. The vw dealer quoted a $9,000. Repair and vw north America declined any assistance with the vehicle. The car is not worth that, and it would be absurd to pay out of pocket for the repair; especially since vw continues to use a defective designed hpfp that can eventually fail again. Vw was selective in the model years that they recalled, but only after the parts failed. They should have applied the recall and repairs to all vehicles proactively. I now have a 2013 paperweight in my driveway. The reason I purchased this specific car was for the longevity that diesels are known for. What a shame that vw does not rectify the situation in lieu of the previous diesel scandal. I'll be going back to Volvo or Subaru, two companies that I have had great experiences with, both in safety and reliability. Vw should do the right thing, but I guess that's of no importance anymore.
The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated while operating the vehicle, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the engine coolant reservoir was empty. The contact added coolant to the coolant reservoir, but one week later the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that engine coolant had leaked into the head gasket and that the head gasket and sealant needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 43,000.

I live in florida where it is very hot - one day my car doesn't turn on and I get the notice on my dashboard that says "starter system faulty. Service vehicle". It wont turn on again. I searched the NHTSA website and it seems there is an open recall already, however for some reason my 2019 Jetta is not included, and the dealership refuses to claim it under recall. Nhtsa campaign number: 23v604000 I am submitting this complaint to include this batch of 2019 Jettas also affected.
My car has been recalled twice for a camshaft which is making a ticking noise inside still. I reached out to dealership and they said they can only handle the situation once they get approval from NHTSA. Please help me out with this issue. Below are the recall codes 23r1 - camshaft 24dr - ecm thankyou.

I keep getting a cylinder 1 and 4 misfire on a 6mt on cold start. I previously had another 2024 Jetta gli and it had the same exact problem as this one. The dealer confirmed the problem and bought the car back and now it is happening on the new car.
While driving, the car's electrical system failed and came to a complete stop. Identified as a faulty ignition switch by the dealer's service center. I contacted Volkswagen regarding the issue and provided NHTSA's campaign number of 23v604 for a recall on the 2019 Jetta's for ignition switch failure. Volkswagen took my information but stated the recall did not include my car based on the VIN number. I am reporting it here to see if there are other Jetta owners who have reported the same issue. The case number with Volkswagen is #06375019.
Purchased the car with around 70 miles. Dealer filled the car up full with gas when driven off the lot. Check engine light at 300 miles. Took into the dealer to deal with it. Dealer reported misfire on multiple cylinders on start up. Was told I put bad gas in the car when the dealer filled it up. Added fuel additive and reset codes, sent me on my way and only have used 91 chevron since. Next around 600 miles check engine light came back one, same issue. They put my car in transport mode and back out. Reset codes and told me to not let the car idle on startup. For a brand new car????? 1300 mile mark check engine light again, same issue. Currently still in waiting to hear what they have to say. As of 8/19.

The ignition, the check engine, the abs, and the camshaft warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, the vehicle failed to restart as needed. The contact stated that the vehicle started temporarily and shut off after several attempts. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact notified the dealer the vehicle was purchased from of the failure. The dealer informed the contact that the warranty had expired. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.

Driving on a highway when all of a sudden my car completely shut off and would not turn back on, had to sit in 110 degree weather with my children. Everything was completely dead and we could not open the trunk to get our jumper cables.
Unknown.
My Volkswagen Jetta gli 40th anniversary 6mt, has had multiple misfire check engine lights appear on dash since owning the car, multiple times has the car been to the dealership and multiple times they blamed me as the operator for the issue, I was told it was bad gas, then a software update was made available to fix the misfire issue and within 150 miles of getting the update the misfires happened again. The vehicle can be made ready for an inspection if needed. The misfire check engine light occurs during start up of the vehicle and I am stationary at this time. To my knowledge the components have been inspected by the dealership. The first misfire happened at around 4000 miles and the dealership claimed it was bad gas, then again at 6400 miles at which point the dealership performed the software update. Since then I have had 2 additional misfire messages that I had not documented at the dealership.
The transmission failed due to mechatronics failure without warning.
The car is making a weird sound when I break. It sounds like liquid is moving around and another sound. The central caution off in my car and the airbags too.
Vw Jetta should be included in the ignition switch recall. Problem started last year August on a trip out of state. After a day sitting in the hot parking lot on drive back car reported ignition switch failure and all electronics shut off and eventually the car shut off and wouldn't restart until the interior of the car cooled off. Once inside of car cooled down car was drivable again. Contacted dealer they stated they had not serviced another Jetta with this problem yet. They adivised to continue driving and see if problem occurs again. All winter (living in cold climate) it was no problem. In March as things warmed up problem occurred multiple times. Multiple occasions the car shut off in the middle of the road luckily no accidents occurred. Had car serviced at vw dealer, they were able to replicate problem and talked with vw field rep. Who said to change the ignition switch. Since replacing the ignition switch my car has not had any issues anymore. I contacted vw care and asked to add my car to the recall or reimburse my repair cost ($ 320) they refuse and insist that my car does not have the same problem as the recalled 2019/2020 models. I was fortunate that nobody hit me from behind when my car decided to shut off in the middle of a 55 mile an hour road. Since the warning lights won't work when this problem occurs. This is a very serious problem and the remedy was to replace the ignition switch. I have the email conversation between the vw care rep as well as a copy of my repair bill. The last email I received from vw care states that my car is not part of the recall, that they can not add it to the recall and even though it presents with the exact same problem nothing can be done about it. Please let me know if you need any additional information sincerely tanja dunn.
I have gotten a multiple cylinder misfire since 800 miles and vw dealerships haven't been able to figure out why at first they said bad fuel then bad plugs and they have tried to treat both and it has not been fixed they will clear the light and it comes back almost immediately.
The epc light and check engine light came on while driving, major car throttling, problems with acceleration, stronger throttling occurred with more acceleration. Car was immediately towed to nearest vw dealership service. Me and my son had to stop on the expressway far from home. Problems were confirmed at inspection by vw dealership on same day of incident. No symptoms or warnings occurred of problems before incident.
What system component failed or malfunctioned? is it available for inspection upon request? the car boards are left inoperative. If the entire car loses power don't grab the car how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I'm driving down the road and suddenly the car no longer works. It doesn't start and the drivers behind me have to avoid me. On many occasions I have had to leave the car on while I run errands because I have had to ask for help to turn it on, so I don't turn it off because I don't know if it will turn on again. And this is a dangerous practice since they can steal my car and what I have inside since I have to leave it on. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by an independent dealer or service center? every time I bought it and took it to the dealer, they indicated a different fault. At first they indicated that it was the electrical part and they made changes to it. Then apparently it was the battery but it was not safe. They have taken it apart several times but have not been able to fix it, since each time it seems to have a different error. The last scan showed a ground short circuit. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? I have always taken the vehicle to the dealer who sold it to me. Were there warning lights, messages or other symptoms of the problem before the failure and when did they first appear? the first time he took it was because the dashboard went out, the electrical part was left not working. If you are unsure, simply indicate unknown and provide your best assessment of the incident and cause in your description.

Exhaust cam phaser cover bolt backed out. It hit the engine casing which caused the exhaust cam phaser to misfunction. Disfunction. The car has not been checked by a dealer but is available for inspection.
The contact owns a 2024 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that at start-up, there was an abnormal amount of white smoke coming from the exhaust pipes. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that a cause for the failure was not found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 18,078.
This is now the second time this has happened on my brand new 2023 Jetta se. The vehicle only has 1831 miles on it. The fault happens when the car is being driven after approx. 15 minutes. Epc light, check engine light, and yellow warning light illuminate. Also sounds like a misfire when limping off the road. Codes read at dealer are p0304, p0363, p1d74, and p1d75. All of these codes relate to cylinder 4 misfire. Car is driven only at highway speeds, since it is a commuter car. This happened on 2/16/2024 and 2/22/2024. I attached pdfs of the service invoice from the first instance. I also attached a pdf of a NHTSA file containing a list of vw vehicles that are having the same issue, with the same engine.
The contact owns a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. I purchased 2019 Volkswagen Jetta rline turbo in 2022 with 30 something thousand miles with warranty. The car was and only serviced at Volkswagen dealership since purchased(oil changes, etc. ). My daughter mentioned several times to the service people the coolant was empty and needed to be refilled they checked and said it probably do to the heat and use of ac. So we took car in for an oil change at 60,000-70,000 to a Volkswagen dealership in tampa because oil light came on. They said that the engine oil had sludge all throughout the engine. How no way possible. The car had only been serviced at Volkswagen in brandon were we lived since we purchased it. I couldn’t believe it. They had just serviced our car at brandon location not even a month or so. They couldn’t find the problem is all I was told. I have spent over $3500 in 5 mths trying to have the dealership mechanics give us an answer. I spent $24,000 for this vehicle and doesn’t have 75,000 miles. They said it is a failure within engine! help!!!.

Since January of 2024, I been having issues with this vehicle. Check engine light came on after 3 day of purchase I was told it needs to be reset. From there vehicle emissions valve failed, n80 valve, electronic module and now fuel injection.
When driving above 45 mph, at time the epc light will pop up on the dash and power will be slightly lost to the vehicle. Almost immediately after this happens, the oil light will pop on despite the oil being changed and done on a beyond routine basis. We have brought the vehicle into be serviced at the Volkswagen dealership numerous times and the same thing continues to happen. Recently, when driving on the interstate the epc light came on and the vehicle stalled in the middle of the interstate. Luckily, no accident was caused but it was a near miss. This has been an issue since purchasing the vehicle and the oil is required to be changed much sooner than necessary. Volkswagen keeps "fixing" it but it continues to happen but we have paid over $3500 in getting it "fixed. " the problem seems to occur at random times but most notably when going over 45mph.
When getting into the car the ignition switch failed to start 8 times. This happens every time I enter the vehicle where I live which is a cold climate. The recall is suspected only to affect the car in hotter climates but my car has been affected in the cold. It stalled while I was driving as well and I was able to turn the car back on. On the screen, it said failed transmission. This recall has been mailed to me 5 months ago and is still not yet fixed. I have been paying for my car on time monthly and am struggling to drive my car to the ignition switch failing. The car stalling did not hurt me and luckily no one was behind me. Volkswagen has recognized the issue and sent out a recall in the mail but it's taking so long to fix and was not supposed to stall like this. The warning light was that there was failed transmission. My car has been inspected by fitzgerald and they are unable to do anything about it because there is no remedy for the issue at the moment.
Vehicle has been misfiring at interstate rt 95 putting driver at very high risk of a crash. This vehicle has been service for this problem and also for a coolant leak 04 times at dealership. They were unable to find any problem. Right now, this vehicle is at dealership, and they said, engine has a blown head gasket (several vehicles from vw model taos and Jetta from 2022 and 2023 has the same issue. ).
The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated while driving 35 mph in traffic, the vehicle lost motive power and shut off. The contact was able to steer into a parking space. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the cam magnet needed to be replaced. The mechanic informed the contact that an expert would be contacted for assistance with repairing the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.
Per pep boys: coolant housing on rear of engine has hole in it causing severe coolant leak cooling system has had stop leak added to coolant system possibly clogging heater core, radiator, possible coolant passages in engine block dealership did a patch job prior to purchase, has been with them for 60 days.
