1 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/22/2020

After going to the mechanics after the check engine light came on, I was expecting all the problems to be gone but to my surprise the jolting when I accelerate is still there. Its a very harsh jolt forward roughly when its going to second gear, the rpms go to 4k then jump down to 2k and it does that for a while. For example I'll be driving and then all of a sudden it'll do a harsh jolt forward and will continue to do that when accelerating or when attempting to go at a steady speed. Another problem is the seatbelts are not retractable anymore and I have no idea why. When I would turn off the car the gas would be regurgitated back as if the car was on as it's completely off. I don't know where it comes from but water gets in the car when it rains and the carpets will be completely soaked and it'll smell like mold, we have tried to fix it and mechanics have looked at it and they are clueless too.

2 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

Seat belts no longer working except for the driver side. Passages side will not lock and pops out. All three back seat belts are stuck and will not release. I've had the car only a year purchased from drivetime. Then my key got stuck in my ignition and could not turn car off had to rush to dealership to find out the issues had to pay for something I have no control over. Then had issues with throttle position sensor, and trubo supercharger issues losing power. Almost was hit my a semi truck on the freeway for losing power to my car. These issues I feel have nothing to do with me a a customer to have to pay for only having the car a year. These issues are life threatening. I was forced to purchased gap and this extended warranty for nothing to be covered! this car is a lemon, especially when it has ignition and engine issues. The car is only 4 years old.

3 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/22/2020

My car had sudden engine failure with no external signs of trouble (oil level, belts, everything apparently ok). The car rumbled for a few seconds as I was pulling onto an exit ramp off a highway. As I went to pull to the side of the road, the check engine light came on. The manual instructed to try starting again but the car wouldn't. The vw service department I towed the car to first asked me on the phone, "is it a 1. 8 liter turbo?" when I told them that it was, they told me they had no time to look at my car. Since it was already en route being towed there, they very reluctantly took a superficial look and said the engine is locked up for no apparent reason at less than 90,000 miles. They began to immediately suggest further examination of the problem was going to be a waste of time and money by making statements, such as, "OH, it would cost at least $1200 just to open the engine to diagnose the problem and then it will most likely mean getting a new engine. . . And you're just looking at thousands. . . . " them not wanting my 1. 8l turbo in their garrage, their resolution that the engine is a "goner" with just a superficial look, and their general mood of recommending I take no further repair action made me research this engine further. I found numerous people who all said, "OH, that. Engine is crap! they all blow out under 100k miles!" that's when I called a vw expert I was referred to. He asked the same question, "is it a 1. 8l turbo?" and then told me, "OH, I'm so sorry to tell you this but those engines have an internal issue that makes them burn excessive oil and they just don't make it much past 80k. I wouldn't even recommend putting in a new engine because if you do, it might run you about $4000 but then you get another engine no better than the one you had. Based on my research, this problem seems to be well known by vw and Audi.

4 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/30/2019

Car is brand new with less than 1000 miles driven and has either a vibration or grinding sound coming from in the engine compartment. I'm sitting at the dealership and I've been told by the dealer that vw is aware of the issue and they think it's the turbo but there is no fix is available yet. It sounds like loose/bad bearings or a bad pulley rattling. It happens when it shifts through the gears while taking off from a standstill under light acceleration and at a low rpm. It occurs every time between 20-35 mph. It is easy to replicate.

5 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/06/2019

While driving the vehicle, it starts to stall or have stalled while slowing down or sitting in rush hour traffic; or while stopped at a red light. The dealer stated the code was p0011 and the camshaft position sensor needed to be replaced. The part was about $75 and the labor just under $400. The check engine light came back on within 2 days and the issue started again. Now the dealer stated code p0011 again, and also code p0016 crank shaft position correlation which is the timing belt he stated. He also quoted a price over $3000 to have the work completed. I asked if this was the problem all along and the p0011 was misdiagnosed the last time since you have the same code again. Was the old position sensor bad or not. He could not answer. I told him I can't keep spending money if you can't grantee a fix. I don't want to come back in a few weeks with the same code, but the price keeps going up. Also, that stated they completed a recall update to the ecm software. I told them I was surprised as I had checked NHTSA and it stated 0 incomplete recalls. I know this as I researched the p0011 issue several weeks ago, and someone mentioned in a post to check for this update. . Read more...

10 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/01/2014

Bought the car may 1st 2014 13 miles on it. . . All of may seemed to run ok. . . Then from June until now sept 2015 it has a non responsive gas pedal. Same problem as entry in may 2013. It scares me to death!!! can't get past 30 mph trying to get onto the freeway. . . . Crossing traffic from lights. . . Trying to change lanes. . . . Scares me when I see a big semi barreling down on me and I can't get out of the way and he is blaring his horn giving me the finger and yelling. . . . This on several occasions. I have taken it into 2 different vw shops. . . They cant duplicate it so therefore there isn't anything wrong. . . No codes. . . Also hazzard light on seat belt lite on and dinging. . . Took 3 mo to fix those. . . . Yet seat belt still does. . . . . . One day its ok next not. Worst now is it is tearing my 2011 fusion apart and the pain is excruciating. Vw would not take the car back. . . Bbb was involved until I casted the foot for relief. . . . Vw offered me one mo free payment. . . That I didn't take because I wanted them to take the car back. Then June July August the gas mileage drops by nearly 100 miles and they say it is because I used the air condition. . . Hardly. . . Aug got only 254 mpg. . . . I don't feel safe in this car. I tried to enter this last year but apparently it didn't take it.

11 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/30/2014

On the afternoon of April 30th, 2014 while the vehicle was ideal at a stop light the vehicles power steering and a/c gave out. After inspecting the engine, it was determined the belt tenstoner broke due to a faulty bolt that should've secured this part. This incident happen 6 days after taking it to a local authorized Volkswagen service dealership . As a consumer and driver I feel a formal safety investigation must take place because a part such as this snapping off endangers my life and the life of the general public. This should become a major concern because Volkswagen negligence to detail puts all drivers at risk of major injury and or death.

12 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/28/2013

I drove home from work on 9/28/2013 got off the freeway, came to a stop at end of offramp and the first warning lamp came on indicating a glow plug failure. It continued to run and I drove to a nearby parking lot at approx. 50% power, parked, cycled the ignition from on to off and back on again. This cleared the fault temporarily, I drove toward home and within another 2 miles the same glow plug fault returned along with the check engine symbol and a warning indicating workshop was needed. The following day I bought a code reader, read the codes and found several logged, some of which im certain were residual faults from the actual cause of the failure which was indicated by a recurring "low fuel rail pressure" fault. I have called the dealer which instructed me to look at the fuel filter and aided by an online tech info blog I inspected the high pressure fuel pump actuator for metal debris. The fuel filter inspection showed small, trace amounts of metal dust while the fuel pump inspection showed larger and more substantial metal shavings under the actuator. The inspection of the two components are indicative and inline with similar findings that prove high pressure fuel pump failure, it should be noted that no trace of gasoline was found in this system and only clean diesel fuel was present during inspection. Fuel filter was just changed in Aug 20 2013 at same time as timing belt where hpfp drive gear was retorqued. I now have a car that is not functional and I'm not happy. I bought a diesel for longevity and high fuel economy not this.

13 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/21/2013

There have been many issues with this model but the one I am having more issues with, are the head lamps and/or fuses. In October of 2014, my left side low beam stopped working, I bought 2 bulbs so it could be replaced and then it wasn't the bulb, it was a fuse. In January 2015, the left side bulb stopped working again, I took it to the dealer because I couldn't find any fuse that was blown on my own, this time it was the bulb. Now it is the right side low beam that isn't working. I am not sure what is going on but I have another car that is 20 years old and I have replaced the bulbs only 1 time. When I first bought this car in June of 2013, I had it less than one month and while going across a rail road crossing, the car shut off completely. After tests, they said that it showed nothing and then it happened again and still nothing was found. The seat belt sign comes on for the right front seat because of a sensor when no one is in it. The trunk has a delay on it and takes a while to open. The gas mileage is not at all what it claims either. I get at the most 32-34 mpg and 99% of my driving is on the interstate. I didn't get any extended coverage on it because everyone says that they are great cars, well unless something is done to fix the issues that they have, they will never get another buy from me or the hundreds of people I know and all the ones that read the reviews.

14 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/12/2012

My 2005 vw Jetta gli stalled suddenly while I was driving @ 35-mph. After pulling over and opening the hood to assess damage, I turned the ignition key but all I heard was the starter being engaged. Once the car was towed to an independent repair shop, the technician informed me the timing belt broke/snapped. I was skeptical because my owner's manual says timing belts should be replaced at 110,000 miles according to vw's recommended maintenance schedule. During repairs, the technician said that my valves were bent because the 1. 8t is an interference engine which means that cams, rockers and lifters must be remomoved in order for the cylinder head to be sent to a machine shop for additional repairs. Total costs = $3,865. 66. There was a class action lawsuit against vw timing belts but I was denied reimbursement by the administer/custodian claims were no longer accepted after 2009. I spoke with leo at vw customer service 1-800-822-8987 who said there are no timing belt recalls for my vehicle. . Read more...

16 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/28/2011

The contact owns a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta. While driving approximately 65 mph, the contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact did not inform the dealer or manufacturer of the failure. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who inspected the vehicle and advised the contact that the timing belt was fractured and would need to be replaced. Also, the tensioner and engine may have been damaged and the contact was awaiting the results. The current and failure mileage was approximately 94,000.

17 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/11/2011

18 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/09/2011

Issues began with faulty starter. Then progressed to a battery of electrical issues from windows moving in reverse of desired order to horn and keys dying. Each time dealer brushed off issue. When horn and keys died (also with faulty start button) dealer tried to force me to drive unsafe vehicle until they got around to fixing the problem. Most other times the issue was ignored or I was treated as though I was making up the problem. (these problems include radio staying on when car is completely off, and after manually switching it off, it then will turn back on while the car is still off (even though the car will not start and I have to use the long hold lock function to roll windows up). The car also will reopen trunk upon close, flash passenger seat belt warnings when the seat is empty, not display gear when moving, not display mileage/fuel level while simultaneously listing mileage range from selected screen, etc. Problems are worse in extreme weather. I have attempted to have the problems fixed multiple times to no avail. Recently, I have taken the car in several times to have service light diagnosed. Dealer reset light each time without bothering to check the source. Problem progressed to engine not starting, sluggish and jerky acceleration, lurching stops, and, most recently, shutting off while driving. This is absolutely a manufacturer issue, and I am planning to pursue all options available to rectify. Not only has Volkswagen produced an unsafe vehicle, but they are also aware of these problems and make a great effort to avoid dealing with them.

19 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/30/2010

Catastrophic drive train failure of a vw Jetta tdi 5-speed. While traveling at 65-70 mph on relatively flat terrain on a clear roadway in 5th gear with no input to the clutch or the transmission, occupants felt & heard a single, muffled thump. Originating drive train failure event occurred spontaneously and completely unexpectedly. After the anomaly, a low metallic rattle was heard. Once clear of surrounding traffic, in troubleshooting attempt the driver engaged clutch and shifted into neutral; immediately the rattling became more pronounced. Fifth gear immediately reengaged and noise abated. Driver navigated vehicle under power to right lane & subsequently exited expressway. Upon approach to side street traffic light, the clutch was reengaged resulting in a renewed rattling; transmission shifted into neutral. When clutch was let out, the constant rattling noise continued as engine idled. With signal change, clutch reengaged & transmission shifted to 1st gear. Clutch slowly, carefully released: noticeable noise increase followed by short series of loud, sharp noises. Vehicle lurched and stalled. Two attempts to restart engine failed; no engine response. Police notified & vehicle towed to dealer. Significant fluid leakage noticed. Subsequently notified by vw dealer that main shaft of transmission catastrophically failed pressing flywheel into motor damaging casing, bearings & crankshaft lobs resulting in immediate seizing of the diesel power plant. Total replacement of transmission and engine assembly required (est ~$11k). This vehicle had all maintenance service performed regularly at 5k intervals by vw dealer (documented) and had recently had full 100k service including timing belt replacement. No notification/concern for additional transmission inspection/service. Clutch recently seemed to be engaging a wee bit further but no bottoming of pedal or clutch slippage. Owner expected to schedule clutch inspection/work during next 5k service visit.

24 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/19/2007

The vehicle hesitates when taking off from a stop. I feel this is unsafe because the danger of being hit if you pull out in front of another vehicle and the car hesitates. It appears that all of 2007 vw autos do this. I met with a repair manager from boardwalk vw and a rep from vw of America. I was told that there is nothing to repair that this is normal. 3 of 4 vehicles I draw do it. I also road in another vehicle at the dealership and could feel it while the vw rep drove it. I could see his body move as it did it and he denied. I bought the vehicle for my twin daughters that turn 16 in October. The vehicle is unsafe and really unsafe for inexperienced drivers. The vehicle was bought new about 2 months ago.

25 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/03/2006

Way to many to list here. I have had problems from the start. More than $7000 worth of repair (plus more that was covered by warr) the final item that caused me to say I would never consider another vw product was the engine damage caused by a timing belt failure. All services were performed at the dealership. The users manual states inspection of the belt at services (that I paid for) and replacement at 120,000 miles. I only had 92,000 miles. It will cost $5,000 to repair the engine. It is not cost effective to repair this car. It was a great car to drive but quality control is poor at best.

26 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/07/2005

My 2001 vw Jetta timing belt broke, left me stranded on the interstate and cost over $3300. 00 to repair the blown engine, not once was I told upon purchase or trips for service at any vw dealer that the timing belt was supposed to be changed at 60 or 70,000 miles. , my car had 97,000 at the time. The car from day one has had nothing but problems which resulted in costly repairs for a vehicle I thought to be very reliable, love the look of the car and it has great pickup but cannot afford to buy another one because of the repairs for items that should last the life of the car.

27 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/13/2005

Most recently, the water pump failed. Apparently this is another common failure, which should be covered by a recall. Here is the list of other problems I have had: -both window regulators failed (covered by recall) -tensioner pulley on serpentine belt failed at 40000 miles ($400) -maf sensor at 47000 miles (covered by recall) -catalytic converter failed 50000 miles (covered by emissions recall) -alternator failed at 55000 miles ($450 - using rebuilt alternator) -water pump failed at 60,000 miles ($350 repair bill). The question is. . . What's next? I plan to sell the car within the next few months.
