1 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/19/2020

As I was accelerating onto the highway on-ramp, my car made a loud cracking sound and smoke immediately began to come out of from under the hood of my car. I was unable to accelerate and I steered the car to the highway shoulder. All the service and warning lights on my vehicle were now on. I immediately turned off my vehicle. After waiting a few minutes for the smoke to dissipate, I opened the hood and noted oil on the floor. Upon further inspection, it became clear that there was a large crack/hole in the engine block which appears to have been caused by a blown piston. My vehicle had approximately 63,000 miles and had just received an oil change 5 days prior. This caused me to file a claim with the company that provided the oil change. Per the report attached, the company's insurance inspector determined that the engine failure was not a result of the oil change. See inspector's report and pictures attached, with personal information redacted. The vehicle is currently not functional. Based on additional research, this I believe this may be a result of a timing chain issue that affects a variety of vw models. However, based on VIN lookup and discussion with vw customer care, my VIN has not yet been determined to be covered under the timing chain extended warranty stipulated in bulletin vwp-18-07.

2 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/06/2020

I have a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta gli 35th anniversary edition 2. 0t tsi w/ 6 speed manual transmission. (only 3500 manufactured in the world) 1. I have a very loud clicking/tapping noise when at idle and lower rpms. Vehicle had about 9,000 miles on the odometer when noise started. I have multiple videos and sounds recordings of the vehicle having this noise. I took the vehicle in for diagnosis. I showed the service advisor the videos and he said "it does not sound normal at all, in fact it sounds like internal damage/defect". The tech had taken it into the shop and came back and said it sounded 100% normal. I am now at 12,000 miles and did my oil change at the 10,000 mile mark. Noise is still there. I am afraid if the noise keeps going on and it is causing internal damage my car will be destroyed. The vehicle has stalled out on me 1 time at a traffic light since I bought it in December of 2019. (clutch was depressed and car was in neutral) I am currently going back to have them look at it and to get a trim piece replaced under warranty due to fault.

3 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/15/2019

Had drove the car little while, then made a stop, cranked the car to leave and sounded like it was low on oil, that kind of. Tapping sound. Oil was fine. But the sound still there the next day. After driving it a mile or two. It got louder, then the check engine light came on. I stopped at the closest part store about 5 min after the light came on. They checked it with the scanner. Said it was a knock sensor code. P0328, bank 1. Took it to vw. To get a diagnosits done. And the man said it was due to a recall. The problem I was hearing, and the code. Was from the recalled part. They changed that part. Said it was a fuse panel on engine block. The problem was still the same. Then, he said it was not due to the recall. And I still had to pay the 120 dollar for the diagnostic. And said they would have to open the engine to check any further, and that the labor would be about 2000 dollars. I had took it by vw before it started to have any noticeable problems. When I had happened to look up recalls online. The man looked it up by my VIN. Told me there were 3 active recalls. But it would be another week before they could get to it. I asked if it would be ok to continue driving it, was any of them serious enough to not. He told me , no, that it would be fine to drive. Said specially since I wasent having any problems already .

5 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/06/2015

While driving on the interstate July of 2015, going about 70 mph, my 2006 vw Jetta shook and lost all power. No check engine lights or any lights at that matter came on. Prior to this I would notice that taking off sometimes the turbo wouldnt kick in and I would have absolutely no power while getting up to speed. This also happened on the freeway and once off of the freeway I turned the car off and then on and was like nothing happened. After I lost all power the second incident, I took it into the shop and was told that 2 cylinders were completely destroyed. Had to spend 2400 dollars to have a new motor put in and now the thing is having problems again. Battery light keeps coming on and off within a second and there is a loud ticking noise while idling. Sounds like a loud vacuum in the engine compartment while driving it. No check engine lights or temperature gauge increases are present. While researching recalls I noticed there were some for the year of my Jetta so wanted to see what is going on.

6 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/06/2015

Went to start and loud clunk noise & engine would not turn over. Several pieces if ice were found in turbo intercooler area. In shop now. Known design deficiency that vw never informed us about. $1800 to implement tech bulletin with no reimbursement from vw, that is if engine is not ruined.

7 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

November 2014 incidents: two incidents of failing to start. First incident: car failed to start once and started on second try. Second incident: car several times failed to start & engine made clanking noise. Had car towed to vw agency. Car started after unloaded from tow truck and agency found nothing wrong. December 2014 incident: car started, but after slowly driving to parking lot exit and before at full stop, at engine quit and would not restart. I put the car in neutral and backed down a slight grade to get car out of traffic; after coming to a stop the car started up.

8 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/21/2013

Fuel cut-off/surging when accelerating and tapping noise from engine. Engine is throwing engine codes; a loss of power is present when accelerating. This occurs every time I try to accelerate. This is a known issue with the cam follower and high pressure fuel pump on all 2. 0t fsi motors from vw. My cam follower has a hole in it (have the part) and the high pressure fuel pump is worn down (have the part) because it has made contact with the cam lobe, which has been scarred (have the part). Replacement requires a new cam, high pressure fuel pump, and cam follower. The design however will require constant inspection of the cam follower to avoid major engine failure. All 2. 0 t fsi engines will experience this problem. Volkswagen has a TSB #2015153 dated December 16, 2009 that warns of this problem upon cel light being shown. But by then the damage was done, upon further inspection it had a hole in the cam follower, with severe damage to the cam and high pressure fuel pump. Repair cost was over $2,000. 00. After researching this I found out this is a common problem with this particular motor. So much so that voa extended the warranty to ten years and 100,000 miles just for this exact problem. Unfortunately they used VIN numbers and my VIN numbers is after the cutoff point even though it's the exact same motor with the exact same problem as the earlier VIN numbered cars. They need to cover the affected motor numbers not the VIN numbers.

9 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/22/2013

At approx 80-90k I started hearing a clattering noise from the engine and extra noise when idling. Also, the car has a hard time shifting (automatic trans). After taking the car to a mechanic, I was told that it's the dsg dmf coming apart and rattling. After doing some research, I find it's a common problem. It started happening shortly after my car went out of cpo warranty, which expired at 74k. I didn't really pay that much attention to it until it got worse. This is a 06 tdi mkv with auto dsg, brm engine. Also experiencing difficulties with soot in fuel filter, likely due to faulty seal in fuel injectors under cam shaft. Once again, common problem according to mechanics and online forums on this model. There's a recall on the dmf for this model in australia, needs to have one for us.

10 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/22/2013

Was driving and heard a clicking sound, shortly after my steering and brakes locked up, and then the entire car stalled. I was unable to restart the engine. Had car towed into the vw dealership where they told me my fuel (diesel for Jetta tdi) was contaminated causing the fuel pump to burst which lead to metal shards destroying the entire fuel system. However, I am 100% positive, and have receipts for proof, that the car had been filled up with diesel gas about 1 week prior to the incident and was running completely smoothly up until the sudden break down.

11 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/01/2012

I have a 2010 Jetta wolfsburg 2. 0 turbo. I have had nothing but problems with it and the dealer can't seem to help me. The doors won't lock or unlock consistantly with the key fob. When I lock it, the horn beeps to let me know the alarm is on, but the doors don't lock! not even manually. If I open the door, the alarm sounds, but the doors won't lock! the touchscreen radio made a popping sound about 5 days ago and went completely black. The radio is hooked up to the car's blue tooth so that is not working either. No hands free talking for me! I also paid a lot of money to have a lifetime subscription to sirius satalite radio for that car. That sucks! the blinkers don't work properly. If I put my left blinker on, the right one goes on and vice versa. My expensive key, broke off in the ignition randomly. The car stalls while idling. The gas pedal gets stuck in the "up" position causing me to lose acceleration on the highway and barely be able to move. My check engine light is constantly going on and off for no apparent reason. It is one thing after another. The car is only 4 yrs old! these are safety issues that it seems lots of vw owners are having. Having no locking doors, or doors that won't unlock, no alarm, no radio/bluetooth, faulty blinkers, and a sticky gas pedal are all dangerous! I left my car at the dealer for a whole day and they said "hmmmm. . . . . . It's a mystery" um. . . . What! from what I can see, I should be expecting my car battery to die any day now due to the radio. Lemon!.

12 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/09/2006

Car began making loud popping noise. Took car to dealership. After three days of evaluation, the dealer had to contact vw technician for assistance. The vw technician informed the dealer to check the camshaft as they have been noticing problems in the field in vehicles with 80,000 - 150,000 miles. They stated that there was a problem with the metal being too thin and wearing too quickly.

13 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 1999 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/25/2000

First: coin holder broke, next, the fuel pump. After that, the catalytic converter went. The heat gauge goes on the "I will work when I want to, and I won't when I don't" attitude. Speaking of front end bumpers, I've had mine replaced and fixed 3 times, stupid me, shouldn't I know by now not to get so close to those parking curbs. Next, it started using oil, every 1000 miles, 1 qt, went to dealer, gave me runaround, mechanic standing by listening, took my side, replaced rings, sorry, I didn't know about the site sooner so I could tell you all this. Fixed. Maybe, hope. Now, car dies on highway for no apparent reason above speeds of 50+, momentarily, and then starts again. The drink holder has now broken, son has to put aa battery above cassette to have sound coming from all speakers. Emergency flashers started making cracking noises, electrical problems?, not my vw. Air conditioner quit working 1 month ago. Went to mechanic today, he says compressor. Have you priced a compressor? $840. Dealer only part,go figure, aren't they all. Wipers are not good, replaced 2 times. So glad I don't have power windows and auto trans. I read what someone wrote, "I love my car". It's a damn shame isn't it ,that we put this much confidence into a car dealer to be this disappointed. All vw Jetta's should read "made in mexico" emblazened - I don't know where. If class action suit filed, post here. I got a lemon.
