While driving at any speed and with no warning consumer can strongly smell fumes inside the vehicle . Dealer notified.
3 engine coils have failed and have been replaced. Now the transmission is gone and they are replacing the whole transmission the left front door latch has failed too.
Back brakes and rotors had to be replaced on my 2001 Jetta glx v6 which was purchased 08/01. I only had 23,000 miles on the car! at my 20,000 mile service no problems were mentioned. My check engine light came on too. I had to have my O2 sensor replaced under warranty. The warranty did not cover the brakes. I do not ride the brakes. 1 month after I bought the car I noticed that when I start it in the morning it makes a sound like and old junky car would. I had it to the dealer twice for this and they said its nothing and that's the way a v6 sounds! it only does it on the first start of the day. I am afraid it will end up being some very expensive problem in the future. 9 months after I had the car the arm rest came apart and had to be fixed under warranty. I will never buy another Volkswagen again and I would not recommend them to my friends who are MD's and rn's and can afford nice cars.

I bought the car on March 5, 2003 and after 2-3 days the engine light came on! I made more than several attempts to have the repairs done at lithia vw in reno, nv; and the only repairs half way done was the secondary air injection valve and hoses, but not the sai pump as well as the tumbler of the ignition. This is a lemon from day one and I have several proof of the problem even from dmv of nevada in their dtc's which is the diagnostic trouble code descrition of p0411-secondary air injection system!!!!! no one will help me, and I bought the car to enjoy and to not worry of breaking down, but now. . . . . It sits in the driveway. . . . So the warranty won't be voided, and that my car doesn't get worse. I do have many documents to back this claim and the dealer-budget moters won't help, nor will the aul warrenty CO. That I pay.

Past year: auto door locks failed, could not open either front door; transmission failed, exhaust system rusted out, headlights out, signals out, wheel bearings need replaced, air bag light stays on, have not been able to drive car in nearly 1 year, required nearly $5000 worth of damage.
The electrical system sensor fail due to defect. Once the warrenty is out at 28,000 miles, car begin to fall apart. I have to replace the canister, new brake system, the O2 sensors and other minor fixes. Please check if vw know about the problem and still release the new 2000 Jetta model with all the problem.
The vehicle mass air flow sensor failed which caused the vehicle to perform poorly. The consumer was reimbursed for the cost of the repair.
2 days after we purchase the car a brake shoe braket came off and was rubbing the rear rotor. July, 3 windows went bad, 2 were the wiring and 1 was the motor. October the front wheel bearing needed replaced plus wheel alignment. September the exhuast broke off behind the catalytic converter I had it fixed myself. The exhuast had also broke off 6 months earlier in front of the muffler but I fixed it. One window that they fixed in July 2002 went bad again in June of 2003 and needed fixed. The rear brake on the same wheel that they fixed in January of 2001 has gone bad now. I'm done with this car. It's been in the shop more then I have ever had any car combined. Thanks.

There was a foul smell coming from inside of the vehicle. Consumer has had to go to hospital because of a rash due to some kind of chemical that she was smelling. Contacted dealer, and dealer could not find cause.
Volkswagenh of America has not been supportive or helpful in resolving these complaints nor have the Volkswagen technicians been able to diagnosis the true problem; they just fix the problem "symptoms". No safety defect listed.

Check engine light (mli) came on. Checked engine oil and found to be nearly two quarts low. Refilled and called dealership. Delaership replaced O2 sensor - indicated that oil consumption of this amount was unusual and should be tracked. Several months later, check engine light came on, checked oil and was nearly two quarts low. Took to dealership, tweaked ecm settings and fixed the problem. New serice manager claims that high oil consumption is typical with this engine (notice - very different response from first encounter). Two days later, while at highway speed, the check engine light came back on. I have an apppoinment with dealer on Friday. Car is just out of warranty (2 years) and has only 15k miles on it.
Thereis a very heavy chemical smell in interior of vehicle. Took vehicle to Volkswagen for service, and dealer couldn't locate a problem. Consumer stated that smell was making driver sick in the stomach. Please provide any further information.

Engine check light and emissions work shop warning keeps coming on. Each time I take the car in the dealership tells me that its a different reason the light is coming on. To date they have made three different repairs to the car and none of them have worked. I received the last check engine/emissions workshop on 4/10/01 and car is in the shop being fixed.
I fell that I have had a lot of problems with my car and most importantly, the problems are on going. I have voiced my complaint to Volkswagen customer service, the dealership service manager and sales manager. I have made it clear that I feel that my car is a "lemon" as I have had numerous problems that are ongoing. I do not get called back when they say they are going to call, they point fingers at each other and no results. The sales person/vw dealership consultant offered me a trade in value of $15,500 and a small discount on another car. I wish to seek assistance in making my "lemon" car situation right. I also have a written documentaion of my experience and service history. I do not believe that myself, as a consumer, should be treated in a manner, that disgards the integrety to make things right. If your ageny can help me, I would be appreciative. Thank you for your time. No safety derfect listed.
Add't dealer repair info: northland vw. Cin OH. Air system smells rotten, water pump went out due to belts going bad, electrical malfunctions caused car to stall & not operate, cigarette lighter is stuck -can not pull out. This car has been in the repair shop 9 times in 3 yrs.
I have spoken with vw and the dealership a number of times. . No one will help.
My lights, wipers and heat wouldn't work, discovered it was the ignition switch. Contacted vw, and dealer, they want to charge me too much to fix it. I know 3 other people with Jettas that had the same problem. Obviously vw is installing defective ignitions. My emergency brake wasn't releasing, took it to dealer and they informed me that I had a torn brake cable boot that was allowing moisture to get in and freeze my cable. The 2 yr/24,000 mile warranty was expired. My check engine light started going on and off, when I took it to the dealer, it took them 3 times to figure out it's the rear oxygen sensor. This is the first brand new car I have ever purchased and I have had more things wrong with it than I ever had with previously owned vehicles.
Water sucked into air intake due to low placement design. Major engine damage.
Within the last 6 months I have taken by car to have the right front window fixed twice, the right rear window once, tailpipe fell off with no warning, now front left window is broken, dealer said the reason for the failure is that we don't use the windows that much. Defective fan belt.
