2 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/06/2020

Makes a loud grinding noise when accelerating. Dealership tries to say it's normal. Feel vibrations in gas pedal. Happens usually between 20-40 mph. Rpm gauge appears to stick. Looked up complaints and there are several matching what I am experiencing. A certified mechanic not associated with dealership thinks it's a bad torque converter or transmission issue. Vw says it's normal and refuses to fix it.

3 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/16/2020

I just purchased a 2019 Jetta r line and since day one I have a grinding noise coming from the transfer case or the transmission. It's always there at around 50km/per hour for about 2 sec. Like many others said it doesn't feel right for me. I hope vw will take action and do something about it. On top of that I lost all my radio presets and the screen has started to freeze. I also notice a knocking sound in the rear suspension over normal bump.

4 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/11/2020

Car makes grinding noise when going between 20-40mph, every car I test drove made this noise so I assumed it was normal. Not as loud in the sport mode but noticable in eco mode more. My car has 4000 miles on it. Vw says it is a normal sound. Also breaks squeal very loudly when backing up, again they say normal.

5 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/03/2020

When the vehicle is accelerating in either normal or eco mode, when it approached 28mph and shifts gears the engine makes a scraping/grinding sound. This happens consistently in the same driving session when accelerating with this gear change. This will happen on highways under rapid acceleration or on local streets under light acceleration. This is a great cause for concern as the sound could distract the driver and represent damage overtime to the engine.

6 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/02/2019

I have had a Volkswagen Jetta 2019 for 3 months and I have noticed a grinding sound coming from the engine. It starts the noise at 30-40mph at 1000-3000rpms, it's louder in eco mode but can still be heard in drive mode vary faintly but still noticeable. I looked it up and found out a lot of people already know about it so I decided to take it to the dealership, told them about the noise, 9 hours later I receive a call from the dealership to tell me it was normal. That the noise was part of the turbo they called it turbocharged. I'm no scientist but I know what a turbo sounds like and they don't sound like that. I just want this problem fixed or a new car because I know for a fact that it going to cause bigger problem that might not be covered by the warranty.

7 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/18/2019

Grinding noise from transmission when travelling at 30-40 mph. Sound is loudest in eco mode. Having the same issue that many others have stated online with the 2019 Jetta, and it sounds like vw is aware of this problem but say it's normal since all of the 2019 Jettas are doing this.

8 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/22/2019

2019 Jetta s with 1. 4l engine and 8 speed automatic transmission, grinding noise when shifting from 4th to 5th under light load. Noise is audible in all drive modes but especially in eco or normal drive modes. Dealer said it was normal operation of the torque converter and that no further service was needed. This noise does not sound safe or healthy for the car or for the occupants within the car. Volkswagen needs to recall and fix these faulty torque converters before they damage cars or hurt someone.

9 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/19/2019

On 10/18//19 I purchased a Volkswagen Jetta s. The next day I started hearing a grinding noise at acceleration speeds of approximately 20-35 mph. In 10/21/2019 I took the Jetta to royal automotive in birmingham al. And after inspecting the car the mechanic (jamey mcelroy) informed me this was a normal sound and was related to the air intake. The scope of work said they did not hear the noise and I made them change the wording as jamey said they did hear the noise. I felt they were covering up the truth by making the paperwork say the noise didn't exist. Please hold Volkswagen accountable and make them fix this problem. I have read several other Jetta owners complaints with the same problem and Volkswagen is turning a blind eye to any repairs. Thank you in advance for your help!.

10 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/09/2019

2019 Jetta gli with less than 500 miles equipped with the dsg (automatic) transmission - engine stalls out as soon as the speed of the vehicle reaches 0mph - whether on the highway (bumper to bumper traffic), stopped at red lights, stopped at stop signs, or changing gear to reverse in parking lot or street to get in driveway. The stalling happens regardless of the "auto stop start" feature being disabled or enabled, and happens approximately once every three or more complete stops but usually not for the first 3 when the car is first turned on. The car also makes an audible grinding sound when engine stalls. In all instances once the car has stalled it requires a manual restart by putting the vehicle back in park, and pressing the vehicle start button with brake depressed. In addition to the above stalling, the car has once turned off when started remotely and no passengers inside. I have approached the vehicle approximately 30 seconds after remote start was engaged, opened the truck, loaded a few items, and car turned off. A check engine light came on. Using a vag505 scanner I was able to find 01-engine fault code 15080 and 08-auto hvac fault code 1048838. Videos of the aforementioned issues have been uploaded to youtube and can be made available via request.

12 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/16/2019

Brakes are making a pulsating sound from when it was at 20000 miles , have been issues with the car from day 3 of owning it . Volkswagen refused to take the car back saying thats not a valid complaint. . Engine makes a rumbling or a grinding sound when it is at 35-40mph ! car looses tire pressure every week. When going throught even a minor pothole it feels as if the struts were rammed on the road !! insufficient lighting ! drives almost like a bull ! feels like its just dragging itself . . . . Awful to the core ! seat frame has been changed once before in 3 months 2days of owning my car and it has started to shake again but was ignored by the dealership! and all these things happen when on highway and city! car makes vibrating sounds but ignored by thw dealership.

13 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/03/2019

2019 r line Jetta was originally making a grinding sound at 1500 rpm. Now I just got a check oil level notification on my dash. This car has less than 7,000 miles.

14 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

Jetta 2019 makes a grinding noise when putting the gear on reverse(manual car). Even if stationery for more than 3 seconds it makes a grinding noise. There is something defective on the car that the dealership is hiding from me. I dont feel safe driving the car knowing its defective.

15 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

Engine and transmission have groaning and growling sounds at gear 4,5, and 7. Very loud at times. Also there seems to be some hesitation to accelerate. Vw knows about this issue and is doing nothing. Moreover, vw knows it's the torque converter as they sent out a software update to unsold Jetta's to dealers but aren't doing anything to already sold Jettas. Only saying these noises are normal. This defective converter is on hundreds or even thousands of Jetta and everyone is having the same issue. It's dangerous and a safety issue. And damaging the transmission.

16 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/26/2019

Whenever I accelerate, especially at a normal or light rate, I hear a grinding noise. It usually happens anywhere from 25-40 mph and doesn't matter if the engine is cold or warm. It has happened ever since I got the car and I have taken it to the dealership twice to get it checked out. When I took it there I was told that it was the abs system kicking in. The second time I took it there I was told that it is a normal sound that all Jetta's make. I don't think a new vehicle should be making any sort of grinding noise. It sounds like it is coming from the transmission or drivetrain and that's what concerns me.

17 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/22/2019

Grinding noise at 30 mph.

18 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/22/2019

First, trunk of the car. It's unsafe and doesn't lock unless u overextend it open. I have been hit in my head twice before I learned my lesson. Second, transmission. It makes a grinding noise when operated at slower speeds. I am reaching 9,500 miles and noise is still there since day one. Three, the engine. I believe there is a internal defect because today I was driving a the engine oil light came on. Once I checked the oil I saw that the dipstick was clean, no oil, nada. Where has all the oil gone on a new 2019 Jetta? it sure hasn't been leaking on the ground of my garage because there is no fluids.

19 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/02/2019

Everytime I accelerate past 40km my vehicle makes a loud grinding sound somewhere in the engine. I can be on any terrain and in any driving mode and it still does it. I have been to 2 dealers and neither will accept responsibily to fix it. This has been an ongoing issue since then second I bought it in February 2019.

20 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/31/2018

1. First issue is the car running low on oil before it reaches the 10k mile mark. This car should be getting an oil change every 10k miles however it will run out of oil before the 10k mark is achieved. 2. There is a grinding noise at about 30mph that seems to be associated with the gear change. Therefore, I believe this particular issue is transmission related. This particular issue has been happening since the car was first purchased.

22 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/02/2015

This is a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta sportwagen tdi (turbo diesel) I commute from charlotte, nc to detroit, mi approx once every 3 weeks. I travelled from a cold (15f), wet climate, to a warmer climate (34f), and parked my vehicle overnight. The next morning, the car would not turn over, and acted like the battery was dead. I checked the battery, and it was 13. 9vdc. I continued to try to start the vehicle, each time the starter motor just making a grinding noise and not turning over. I left the vehicle for approx 20 minutes, and tried again, when it eventually turned over, all the warning lights on the dash came on, and the car idled very roughly at aprox 400 rpm. I tried to increase the rpm, and eventually (5 minutes of gently pushing the accelerator) it got up to 800-900 rpm. I tried to drive, and the car stumbled and sputtered for a while before getting up to normal speed. This has happened 5 times total so far. 3 times dead battery / hydro lock situation occurred 1 time the car ran roughly, and then when I pulled out onto the main road the car stumbled, died, and would not let me accelerate. I quickly put the hazard flasher light on, and somehow avoided a collision with the cars around me. 1 time the car ran roughly for approx 5 minutes, then ran smoothly the rest of the trip. I'm worried that I've damaged the engine.

23 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/03/2011

2005. 5 vw Jetta, 2. 5l 5 cyl engine. Car has been maintained according to manufacturer guidelines. Vehicle was operating normally when check engine light came on. Check engine light was lit steady, not flashing. Started to lose power and was difficult to maintain speed. Pulled off road and idle was very rough. Turned car off and back on and idle was worse and check engine light still lit and not flashing. Vehicle started to make grinding noise from driver's side of the engine compartment. Was difficult to move vehicle under its own power and had car towed to repair shop. Repair shop found trouble code p1340 and after more diagnostic that timing was incorrect. Cam timing was very far off and stretched timing chain suspected. Compression test revealed bent valves as well. Local indy mechanic and local vw dealer have both seen this issue several times with 2005. 5 and 2006 model Jetta and rabbit vehicles with the 2. 5l engine, and several other similar failures are outlined in several places online. The failure of the timing chain was very sudden and could have caused an accident.

24 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/15/2005

Any time the vehicle is not operated for a few hours or longer, the engine makes a very loud grinding noise upon starting. The noise lasts less than 30 seconds, then a high-pitched noise follows before both noises cease. I have been experiencing these noises since I purchased the vehicle. I took this vehicle to the dealership for repairs due to this noise, and was informed that there was nothing they could do and that all new vehicles on the lot were making the same noise. The salesman suggested that the grinding noise was the catalytic converters starting up and the high-pitched noise that followed was the fuel pump. Still, it does not sound normal, and the noise does not occur if the vehicle has only been resting for a matter of minutes. I find it difficult to believe that a normal function of the vehicle would make such a noise, and then only make it on certain occasions.

25 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/01/2005

When the car has been sitting for a couple of hours it makes a loud grinding noise when you start it. This lasts for about 20 seconds and then goes away, but it occurs everytime you start the car after it has been sitting for a little while. I was told the noise was normal by my sales rep. I have had the car 2 and 1/2 months and the noise just doesn't sound right.

26 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/19/2005

When the car has been sitting for a couple of hours it makes a loud grinding noise when you start it. This lasts for about 20 seconds and then goes away, but it occurs everytime you start the car after it has been sitting for a little while. I was told it was the secondary air pump and that it's normal. We've had the car for a week, and the noise just doesn't seem right.
