3 Engine Stall problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/08/2020

I previously filed a complaint, complaint number 11306864, with reference to my 2019 Volkswagen gti autobahn, manual transmission, purchased as new on January 17, 2020, with reference to low-speed engine stalling. I have since discovered that my vehicle was reported to the NHTSA as repaired by vw service action code 24 fd, published on December 6, 2019. However, low speed stalling intermittently continues as I have experienced three further instances of it over the last ten days since I reported this troublesome behavior. In other word vw service action code 24d apparently has not rectified the problem. Thank you. Daniel rutenberg.

4 Engine Stall problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/24/2019

Engine stalls occasionally, I have the dsg automatic transmission and sometimes when I am at a complete stop, the engine turns off and a request displays on the screen asking me to manual restart the engine. This has happened to me 5 tomes already since I've purchased the vehicle last a few days ago. The vehicle has about 400 miles on it, I've purchased it new. I'm concerned that the engine might stall on the highway and I'm concerned about my safety with the vehicle.

5 Engine Stall problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/23/2019

Engine stalling on new vehicle. Two events occurred in one night, 7/23/2019, with about 790 and 801 miles on the odometer. In both cases, the clutch was disengaged while braking and slowing to approach a turn. The engine was under no load and should have returned to idle when I disengaged the clutch. Engine stopped running and had to be re-started via the starter button. My vehicle is a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta gli, 6-speed manual transmission and 2. 0 liter turbo engine.

7 Engine Stall problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/01/2017

The gas engine car stalls out when stationary, in motion, on city streets and highways. I turn ignition off then start the car again and go on to my way to the next stall. It is not bad gas and mechanics and dealerships are still guessing what wrong.

8 Engine Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/21/2016

We have been having an issue with the engine stalling out while driving. It started with the epc light coming on several months ago, but the light does not stay on and there has been no consistency to the occurrences. However, now, the car will stay running for long and stalls out shortly after starting. The epc comes on sometimes, but not every time that is stalls out. Today I took the car for a drive around the block, as soon as I got it back home, it stalled out. From that point on the car would not stay running for more than 15 seconds.

11 Engine Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/14/2015

Driving down the road at 35 mph the car suddenly dies, leaving me no power to escape a possible accident, brakes are hard to use, stuck in a traffic lane with cars coming up on me at 35 to 45 mph, turns out the hpfp exploded sending metal thru out the fuel system causing the engine to starve for fuel and stall out, with no fuel getting to the engine the motor wont restart causing a life threatening situation.

14 Engine Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/17/2014

I am "guessing at some of the information above since it was the first time it happened and I didn't give it much thought then. At that time, I was making a right-hand turn to another street and the engine stalled. There was no warning light or signal. I pulled over to the side of the road, restarted the engine and it worked fine. This occurred sometime in mid to late September. Yesterday (12/24/2014) I was at a stoplight and this happened again -- the engine stalled while I was already stopped while waiting for the light to change from red to green. Again, there was no warning light or signal. It was remniscent of when I drove a standard transmission vehicle and inappropriately took my foot off the clutch. I was able to re-start and engine ran fine. I am leery of driving the car again, however, for fear that this will happen again. I plan to take to my mechanic ASAP. Reading the descriptions others have had with this issue are very similar to mine. I have kept up with maintenance and care of the vehicle and it has less than 25k miles on it.

15 Engine Stall problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/27/2014

2014 vw Jetta suddenly stalled while driving on the freeway. Engine stalled and had complete loss of power, reducing steering and braking capability, creating a dangerous driving condition likely to increase chances of a crash. Alternator light came on. Was able to avoid traffic and get over to side of road and shut engine off. Was able to restart, move car 10 feet, and stalled again. Restarted and drove straight to point of sale (dealer quirk vw of braintree, mass). Dealer had car twice, for six days total. Dealer said they were eventually able to reproduce the condition, but did not find a physical cause. Dealer said they discovered a "software update" was available to address this issue and applied the update. Dealer said the car was then "100 percent" not at risk of having this issue. Two weeks later, on August 9th, car stalled while driving about 35 miles per hour. Coasted to side of road and was not able to restart. Car was towed to same dealer (quirk vw) after hours. No new action taken yet. I plan to ask for a refund. This issue has put my life in danger as well as that of my passengers and the lives of other drivers around me, and I believe represents a serious defect in this car. With unexpected stalling and loss of controls while driving, I am put at the mercy of other drivers to avoid my car unexpectedly and at high rates of speed. I do not feel safe driving this car. I am concerned that the next time this happens, I or another person won't be so lucky.

16 Engine Stall problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/24/2014

2010 Jetta tdi. Driving on road at about 35 mph when car suddenly stalled. Glow plug light flashes, "service engine now" on display. Traffic was light and speed was enough to coast to safe location. Car would not restart. Towed to dealer. Dealer replaced some relay part but. . . . The very next day same thing. Car died while driving. Same symptoms as above. Again no warning prior to stalling. Towed to dealer. Dealer had car for a few days but could not find or reproduce problem. Checked ground connections as advised from vwoa technical assistance. Returned car to me with a 'let's wait and see' attitude. Third time, about 1500 miles later, same thing. This time on highway traveling at about 45 mph in heavy traffic. Car towed to different dealer. At the moment they can't diagnose or reproduce problem. My opinion is some fault is telling computer to kill engine. As a safety issue, I would think engine should remain running so that I can safely drive off the road and out of traffic and harms way. If this assumption is correct, then there has to be a limited number of reasons why engine should stall, instead of going into 'limp mode. ' my research found reference to pe10034, but can't find article. Three times car stalls without warning. All 3 times on road. This is a safety concern, and local dealers seem hesitant to request help from vwoa ta. Dealer 1 did contact vwoa ta for support and guided fault finding didn't find anything. Dealer 2 still has no clue. No mandates on local vw dealers, by vwoa, to keep and share service records beyond warranty period, on national database, so other dealers have no idea what first dealer did. Keeping all dealer service records on national db will help spot issues sooner. Dealer 2 will hopefully ask vwoa ta for support beyond what dealer 1 did. Is there an escalation for this? what are my options?.

17 Engine Stall problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/12/2014

I purchased the Jetta used from carmax in nashville, TN in 2014. It began having safety issues on March 2014. Randomly, my car will just stop while driving down the road, or after accelerating from a stopped position when moving on from a stop sign or stop light. I can be driving anywhere from 15 mph to 50 mph, and all systems shut down. The battery light goes on, the steering locks, and the brakes lock. I always panic, put the car in neutral and have luckily managed to veer off to the side of a road and stop, shut the car off, and turn it back on again. Eurofix tried to manage the problem by replacing the crank sensor and cam shaft. But he problem came back, much worse. The second problem is now I cannot unlock my drivers side door with my magnetic key or by sticking the actual key in the lock. I see that another recall has been announced for the 2011 Jetta that is not pulling up via my VIN number, but I believe it might be my car's issue: online, ate that in March 29, 2011 (published by NHTSA) in which an issue with "an electrical wiring and fuse layout where the converter box is protected by the same fuse used by the signal horn and the anti-they alarm system. Should that fuse be blown,, the converter will be disconnected from the power supply which in turn will shut off applications such as the engine management system, lighting system, and wipers". . . . . . "should this happen while the vehicle is being driven, the engine could stall or the headlights or wipers could turn off unexpectedly, potentially leading to a crash without warning. " please help me!!!!!!! what do I do. What will remedy this situation so I don't get killed or kill others. I't gonna happen. . . . Then my family will file a lawsuit. I need guidance and for this car to be fixed/traded out.

18 Engine Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/22/2013

The vehicle's engine stalled while traveling down the roadway at approximately 35 mph. The vehicle's electrical system continued to operate (driving lights, interior lights, power steering and power brakes) during this time. Engaged emergency flashers and coasted vehicle to a stop at the nearest parking lot. After placing transmission into park, vehicle restarted with no further incident.

19 Engine Stall problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

The contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that when the ignition was turned to the on position, the vehicle failed to start. When the ignition was turned to the off position and back to the on position, the engine started and stalled. The engine restarted after 20 minutes. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that there was moisture in the inner cooling system and it needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred six months later. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,796.

20 Engine Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/30/2013

My engine check light came on, followed by the glow plug light and then my engine stalled and died 30 secs later. My hazard lights, dashboard lights, etc functioned, but I could not bring the engine back to life. Policeman suggested it may be a fuel pump, because when I tried the accelerator pedal while trying to start the car, it did not help. I had 3/4 tank of diesel still in my tank and I always fill at the same pump which has a yellow handle and says "diesel" and I am the only one who has filled the tank on this vehicle.

21 Engine Stall problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/28/2013

While driving my Jetta (diesel), the engine has stalled on multiple occasions. The first time it had stalled, my Jetta was only 1 month old and I took it back to the dealer. The dealer found nothing wrong and stated that he had never heard of this issue occurring. The Jetta stalled again over the subsequent 12 months of owning it and I once again took it to lee Volkswagen dealership in fort walton beach. The maintenance manager stated nothing wrong. The Jetta stalled a 3rd time just recently while I was making a right hand turn. I had children in the car and I was very concerned with their safety. In addition to the stalling issue, my Jetta (over the first 2 years of owning the car) has had a new battery, new compressor and new interior lighting mechanism installed. I am very disgruntled with the repeated safety issues on this vehicle. The stalling makes me uncertain of my safety or my children's safety while driving this vehicle. It should be recalled and money refunded to the individuals who have purchased this model.

22 Engine Stall problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/13/2013

When an engine stall occurs, this car requires a full reset before a restart can be performed. This is very dangerous when said reset happens while the car is moving. Meaning ¿¿ a full reset means the ignition key must first be fully turned off. When the car is in motion and the key is fully turned off, at that time the locking gear in the ignition switch engages and locks the steering wheel. . . While the car is in motion!!! this is a common occurrence in the manual shift transmission models.

23 Engine Stall problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/29/2013

2010 vw Jetta tdi common rail engine stalled while cruising at highway speed southbound on I-390 between geneseo and rochester, NY. When two attempts to restart car as normal failed, it was towed to dealer and repaired by replacing fuel injectors in cylinders 2 & 3 according to injector fault code that was generated. Vehicle was returned to me, then exhibited same systems again. Towed back to dealer whereupon discussion with vw tech line had dealer replace turbo intercooler, possibly due to extreme condensation and ice build up in the intercooler referenced by vw TSB # 21 12 01/2025464 frozen air charge cooler. After intercooler replacement, dealer notified me that the car is still exhibiting the same symptoms. Discussions with vw tech line resulted in notification to me that the engine wiring harness seems to be the problem and advises replacement of that for $988 including parts and labor. . Read more...

24 Engine Stall problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/26/2012

After less than 3 minutes of operation, the vehicle can stall under a specific set of circumstances. The incidences (13 and counting in 2 months) always occur when in second or third gear at ~30-35 mpg. The driver is slowing down (as to stop at a red light) and then accelerates (light changes to green). About 2-3 seconds after acceleration begins the engine stalls and must be restarted. The engine just cuts out during acceleration.

25 Engine Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/04/2012

I was going down the road at approximately 45 mph, the engine lost power and stalled. I was able to pull to the side of the road, then have it towed. My spouse is an engine machinist, and after talking to a Volkswagen dealership, and taking the car apart, found metal shavings throughout the fuel system. So far, he has spent $3200 for parts which has depleted our saving account. He is self employed and I work part time and part time student, paying $400 a month for a car we thought would be safe, dependable and economical! this is clearly a safety issue, documented for over 2 years with no responsibility taken by vw, who has falsely denied any ongoing issue of this sort. Fortunately, my husband can do the labor, but people are spending $8,000 to $10,000 to get this vw problem fixed, and in some cases has happened again. This high pressure fuel system is faulty and unsafe. Vw needs to take responsibility for their product to ensure customer safety on the roadways.

26 Engine Stall problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/15/2012

Engine stalled while driving at low speed approaching a stop light and could not restart the engine. The engine cranked but would not start. This has happened several times and re-occurred even after the dealer replaced the fuel pump and filter. After only 40 miles and one day of driving it is at the dealer for repair.

27 Engine Stall problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/12/2012

Engine completely and suddenly stalled out after stopping at an intersection. The car was restarted without hesitation or delay.

28 Engine Stall problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/15/2012

This is the second occurrence in two weeks where my vw Jetta tdi automatic (dsg) 2010 car with 58k miles stalled. I am original owner, have no previous issues with the car and have completed all required maintenance. Symptom. Shortly after starting car and commencing to drive, the engine sputtered and stalled with just over 100 ft of motion. I placed the car in neutral and with slight hesitation, the engine started and I was able to resume normal driving. In the first occurrence (approximately 1/5/12), the car was parked outside at work for 8 hours and the outside temp was in the low 30s. This stall occurred in the parking lot the second event (1/15/12), the car had been in the garage for just over 2 hours and the outside temp was 20. This stall occurred after backing out of the driveway onto residential street and stalled after commencing forward motion.

29 Engine Stall problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/10/2011

I was driven up a small hill going about 20 mph and as I was coming to a stop sign the engine stalled. There was no apparent reason for the stalling. I lost power completely and there was no way that I could restart the car. I knew that it was not electrical because I was able to put on my flashers.

30 Engine Stall problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/17/2011

As I was driving on the highway and I was about to shift to a lower gear to slow down, the engine stalled and died. Luckily I was able to come to a complete stop, and restarted the engine again. I drive a diesel manual transmission engine.

31 Engine Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/06/2010

(2009 vw Jetta tdi) engine stalls when trying to take off from stop. Has happened a total of four times, car only has 32,000 miles.

32 Engine Stall problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/13/2010

We have had several incidents with our 2006 Volkswagen Jetta 2. 5 where we would lose power and the vehicle stalls out. Our 2006 Jetta is a gasoline 5-cylinder with automatic transmission and has only 45,000 miles. In June of 2010 we first noticed the stalling issue when driving home and it stalled out while pulling into the driveway. After sitting for about 10 minutes we were able to pull it into the garage. The second incident occurred on Friday 7/30/2010, while driving home from work (30 mile commute) at 45-55 mph the Jetta started to intermittently lose power before the engine completely stalled. Note: I was still traveling at 55 mph when the engine stalled. It would restart and began experiencing the same issue multiple times. We towed the car to our local Volkswagen dealership. They ran diagnostics and did not find any error codes from the car's computer. They replaced the battery thinking that it might have been an electrical issue. We picked up the car on Tuesday 8/3/2010 in the morning. While driving home from work that same day (30 mile commute) the engine began experiencing the same issue, intermittently losing power while traveling on the interstate at 70-80 mph. After exiting the interstate the symptoms continued to get worse and the engine completely stalled in the middle of an intersection almost causing a multi-car accident. After multiple attempts to restart and repeated engine stalls I was able to get the vehicle to gas station where it was towed to the Volkswagen dealer for a 2nd time. Only good news of this story, the vw mechanic was able to reproduce the engine stall issue after test driving the Jetta for about 45 minutes. Vw dealer reported the result to vw manufacturer tech support. Vw dealer kept the car for more than 1 week to run more tests per vw tech support. Ultimately replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. No more occurrences in the last two weeks. . . But am literally holding my breath while driving.

33 Engine Stall problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/09/2010

On 3 separate occasions, my 2006 Volkswagen Jetta 2. 5 has stalled out while moving. First 2 occasions (occurring a few weeks apart) occurred immediately after start-up in parking lot. Engine stalled, loss of power steering, power brakes, battery light comes on, radio and lights stay on. Dealer keeps car for 1 week first time, 1 month second time. No codes pulled, no replication of problem, dealer returns car to me. 3rd time the engine stalled happened approx 1 month after dealer returned car while moving on highway. Approximately 50-60 miles per hour. Nearly caused multi-car wreck. Car stalled in center lane with not enough power or steering to move to side. Dealer now has car for 3rd time, still no idea what problem may be. Car restarts immediately after stall with no issues. Working with dealer, vw regional manager, and vw of America. Still no problems found, but terrified for car to be returned to me. Driving on highway daily. Next highway stall may not be so lucky.

34 Engine Stall problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/28/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta tdi. While the contact was driving approximately between 25-35 mph, the engine stalled without warning for three seconds and resumed. The instrument panel gauge read normally during the failure. The failure occurred at least two to three times a day or greater; and reached the number of fifteen times while the vehicle was in motion. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician was unable to detect a problem. The vehicle was taken to the dealer four times for the same failures which there were no resolutions. In addition, the failure occurred when the vehicle was at a complete stop with an increase in the engine rpms and the tachometer displaying a different reading. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100.

35 Engine Stall problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/01/2007

When I start my car, the engine idles inconsistently and the car shakes or stutters. If I begin driving normally one of two things will happen, either the engine will stall (happening more frequently lately) or the car will continue to have idling problems until it warms up. In the second case, the car will drive normally for about 15 minutes until I come to the first hill. If the car down shifts while going down a hill at lower speeds, the asr light will come on and from this point on the car has a difficult time shifting gears. The shifting is abrupt and the engine does not sound normal. If I stop, turn the engine off and turn it back on the car appears to function normally. To avoid the above problem, I do the following when first starting my car. I start the car, turn on the headlights and rev my engine to about 3000 rpms. I hold this rpm for about 30-60 seconds and then I notice that the headlights flicker once and become stronger and the engine will then rev up another 500 rpms on its own. At this point I usually do not experience the asr problem with the car. Problem first started in 2007 and persisted until 2010 when it was finally repaired.
