3 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/15/2019

Had to replace both cooling fans on my 2007 vw wolfsburg Jetta. Check engine light was on cand causing the engine to overheat. Causing the pressure relief lid on the overflow bottle to be activated causing coolant to come out. This would happen when the outside tem was 50+ degrees fahrenheit. Vehicle would be driving or idle.

5 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/30/2019

Jetta wouldn't start, called dealership and they said get it towed in, we have 12 other just like it, zero degree's outside, they told me about the inner cooler technical bulletin and they'd take of it, they said they would defrost it and look inside the turbo, they never did look inside the turbo they unhooked one tube and yeas moisture liquid came out they said not enough, that's not what they told me they were gonna do, its not a coincidence that 12 other cars are having the same problem, they didn't take care of it and made me pay for a new starter, totally unacceptable the 12+ other cars having the same problem. $84 towing and $480 for starter, they need to recall the turbo's causing the problems. Unacceptable.

6 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/10/2018

After stopping the car, the cooling fan remains on, and the engine seems inappropriately hot, yet I had not driven that far. Ideas range from a blocked radiator, a poor thermostat? the coolant had been changed. Has anyone else reported a similar problem? it was only 70 to75 degrees and often a bit humid, but usually at night since I seldom drove in the heat of the day. It was parked and the temp of the engine was never above 190 degrees, though the engine felt hot. This happened many times (10 plus) mostly during the winter in florida. I reported it once but the tech didn't see it as a problem. What do you think?.

7 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/01/2016

The contact owns a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta. While driving 25 mph, the engine stalled and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence and then towed to wheeler auto parts (located at 8391 e monroe rd, wheeler, mi 48662; (989) 842-3158) where it was diagnosed that the timing belt and engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the engine stalled in the shop's parking lot and the check engine indicator illuminated. In addition, the contact noticed a strong fuel odor coming the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer (lafontaine Volkswagen located at 2200 s telegraph rd, dearborn, mi 48124; (313) 996-6000) where it was diagnosed that the timing belt and engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed for the fuel odor. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted at 800-822-8987 and stated that they would not be responsible for repairing the vehicle. Case number: 170791374 was provided. The failure mileage was 170,000.

8 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/24/2016

At 60mph vehicle lost power on highway and ultimately stalled out. It restarted 6 times but not enough power to move and stalled in approx 20 seconds. It acted like a flood out situation. No throttle response. It just chugged and died. Jan 24, 2016 33 degrees. 37,000 miles. After a number of tries and stalls finally started up after 45 minutes. . . . So far has continued to run fine. 2/3 full tank of diesel.

9 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/07/2016

1/7/2016. Clear morning, 25 degrees out, started vehicle, warmed up for 20 minutes before getting ready to leave. Drove car to end of street when car engine started to sound like it was out of oil and it stalled. Brought to local vw dealer, was told that intercooler cracked from ice build up and that one glow plug was damaged as a chunk of ice entered one engine cylinder. Was quoted $1200 dollar repair not covered by vw even though a TSB has been in effect with an improved intercooler replacment. This has been a problem with vw since their 2009 model year. My family also owns another 2013 vw with only 26,000 miles and it has experienced similar symptoms described by hundreds of complaints on vw forums of not starting or stalling when put in gear or at a stop light, possible indications of icing in the intercooler system. Was told from the dealer the only way the intercooler gets replaced under warranty is after it freezes and engine damage occurs and only if it occurs before 36,000 miles. I have read where engine damage from ice build up in the turbo intercooler system has cost owners over $6000 in repairs if occurs after the warranty expires. That means vw owners pay roughly 25% of the msrp of the vehicle if the intercooler ices up significantly, which the manufacturer admits could result from normal operation. Reading numerous complaints of engines known to hydro-lock at freeway speeds whereby driver lose the ability to safely operate the vehicle is a hazard that endangers anyone near this vehicle when an ice chunk stops the engine abruptly. Since the manufacturer has developed a cold weather kit for dealers to install with specific procedures for repair it should be classified as a recall when there is no warning if and when the car might stop running which could result in death depending on when the intercooler icing occurs and the car stops moving.

10 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/04/2015

I took my 2010 Jetta tdi in to have the ecm reprogrammed per the notice I received from volkswagon that said the egr might not be read properly. The next day my check engine light came on. I called the dealership and today I had them look at it. They are advising me that my diesel particulate filter is cracked and has been for a while and needs to be replaced. The light only came on after the reprogramming. Volkswagon knew about an issue with the ecm and now I am stuck paying almost $2000. 00 to get it fixed. There are a lot of other people having the same issue.

11 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/01/2015

Car is throwing p0401 fault code for egr valve insufficient flow. Dealer states the diesel particulate filter is cracked. According to data, vw's emissions scandal shows 40% more pollutants spewing into air. This is causing excess emission part failures. Dealer wants $2500+ for repairs. According to vw forums, there are many cases of egr and dpf failures. Contacted vw and they will not assist. My car is due for smog 10/22/2015 and is not passing.

12 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/05/2015

On July 5, 2015, the clutch failed. The clutch was depressed to downshift the car as we were approaching a turnpike off ramp. The gear selector was moved out of top gear and into neutral; the clutch would not return, and the gear selector would not move out of neutral. The car had to be maneuvered through traffic from the far left lane to the rights-side shoulder, in neutral. This put my family and everyone around us at risk of serious injury. There was no degradation of clutch system performance. This clutch failure came suddenly and without warning. I have read comments from others online who have experienced similar issues. Several months ago, the brake booster needed to be replaced. The dealership service manager suggested that the clutch issue could be related to the brake booster issue. My wife and I have driven manual transmission cars for years. This is the first clutch-related problem we've ever experienced.

13 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/28/2015

My car is a vw Jetta tdi 2013, 95,000 miles, not even 3 years old, got it brand new. I started to drive away after doing some shopping. As I was leaving the parking lot, the car stalled. The check engine light came up and so did the glow plug light. The car did not start again after several attempts. I had it towed to the shop. The day after, I was told that the fuel pump had disintegrated due to the internal heat. When doing so, all the debris went inside the fuel system and engine. In order to repair it, the vw car dealer said they had to open all the system and flush it to clean everything and they would charge several thousand dollars to fix that. Although I was not happy with their diagnostic and price, I had to do it. I need the car to get around to go to work. I told the car dealer that this incident was not normal. They said that they did not know what caused it. I have done all the service and maintenance as suggested by the manufacturer. On the other side, it just happened that last week, vw issued an extended warranty for up to 120,000 miles for the fuel pump for diesel cars years 2011 and 2012. I called them and they said that they could not cover the 2013. Obviously, they know something was wrong with those previous models. I think they should include this problem and extend the fuel pump warranty for this car as well and -in this case, cover for the thousands of dollars that this is going to cost me for having a "faulty pump".

14 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/06/2015

My car keeps throwing a p0401 code egr insufficient flow. The dealer told me its might be a cracked dpf filter. After looking on vw forums about the problem its going to be around a $3000 fix. Since the car is not a "clean diesel" as advertised the system is getting clogged due to the fact the car computer fake software.

15 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/14/2015

Car began to stutter and lose power while on i95 doing highway speed. Proceeded to do it multiple times. Once I got off the highway it lost power and shut down completely. I let the car sit for an hour and it started back up working fine. Happened again 3 hours later. Happened the entire week in florida on vacation. Once the car got back into cooler weather problem went away until two days ago when it was about 70 degrees out. Happened on i97 doing 60 mph. I managed to get off the highway once again to have my car die in the middle of route 2. It did not do it for my mechanic who had it for 2 weeks. Other vw owners say this is a common problem with no known fix. This must be looked into, someone could be killed!.

16 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/14/2015

While driving home from work, about 30 minutes into a 40 minute drive, driving about 30 mph, in 16 degree f weather, my vehicle, a diesel with a 6 speed manual transmission suddenly stalled. I was able to engage the clutch, go to a lower gear, release the clutch and re-start the engine. With the engine bucking and hesitating, I was able to drive the rest of the way home. The next morning, the vehicle would not start. I had it towed to a vw repair shop where they found a completely blocked intercooler, full of ice. Doing some research, I have found that vw has a TSB to correct intercooler icing, which involves replacing the original factory unit with a new intercooler design. As I looked on vw forums, I found that many drivers have had similar unpredictable failure due to intercooler icing. When I requested vw correct this design flaw at their expense, they refused, claiming the vehicle is off warranty. I would like NHTSA to look into this, as I feel vw needs to either make a safety recall, or correct the problem on any car on which it occurs. This problem strikes me as similar to the recent gm ignition key failure issue. Thank you for your consideration.

17 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

Was getting head aches when driving the car and sitting in traffic or at a stop light. Smelled a sulfur like smell from the engine compartment. Could hear loud blowing sounds on acceleration. Dealership found an exhaust leak in the back of the diesel motor from the egr cooler assembly. The engine was blowing soot in to the engine compartment and it could be heard and smelled through the firewall. This is a diesel so the exhaust contains carcinogenic chemicals. Diesel exhaust contains a number of potentially toxicologically relevant organic compounds according to the epa that have human health hazards associated with exposure. The egr cooler is not covered under the 8 year 80k federal exhaust emission warranty even though it is a mandated part of the exhaust system as part of the exhaust gas recirculation system. A shaft going through the wall of the egr cooler connecting to a butterfly valve used to divert the exhaust gasses in to the cooler has a faulty seal that will fail and allow the exhaust gas to exit the exhaust in to the engine compartment and get in to the passenger compartment. This is not only an epa violation but a health hazard to every vw tdi owner or passenger. To repair the according to the dealership, the egr cooler has to be replaced at a cost to the owner of $1000. Vw customer care will not stand behind the product but did realize the issue and offer replacement in the first 2 years or 24k miles. Most issues occur at 70k to 120k miles because of a poorly designed part.

18 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/13/2014

The Jetta is defective in the car will start but needs to be engaged in ignition and the sit for 12-15 minutes before it is able to get in drive gear. Currently it will not engage in reverse gear. The temperature is mild 74-78degrees f and the car needs to be constantly serviced. Upon the incident this Jetta was driving and there was a visibility probelm through the windshield . The windshielf was replaced. The engine lights are on the engine was serviced, it was leaking fluids, it was serviced by a reputable service center 9 mile eastpointe a specialist is foreign cars. Then the Jetta while driving in a residential area the steering locked up and was stiff , stiffer still and unable to engage the driving rhythm I am an experienced driver and accustomed to pre power steering and this was a mechanical failure in the steering, wheels?? currently the car is unable to be used as it wont go in gear of reverse, it moves on the consul and there is no motion. The battery and the fluids and the celanoids, belts, everything has been checked and looked over. I had to get a tow to get it serviced in oct. 2014 and will have to get a tow now too for the estimate of why the flat fuse on the battery is not able to give the engine enough power to drive or reverse. The Jetta was bought used from another party, and had an accident from that owner, it was sold to me and since then the leaking fluids, check engine light have been serviced. I see 0 recalls. I realize you have over 40,000 consumer complaints but this is a safety concern as I transport human passengers of minor age and have had difficulty several times in just driving down the street to manouver a small car. This Jetta is aged and has high mileage but this is a german engine? the precision and tuning I have previously experienced from an automobile is lacking in the components of the engine pieces put into action to driv.

19 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

The car was running fine up to the time it quit. It stalled in a puddle after 7 days of rain so I assumed it had gotten water in the system somehow. I had it towed to my local mechanic. He in turn called the dealer who said they were unable to sell him the parts for the repair and that I needed to have it towed to them. I have since been told the repair work will be between 8 and 10 thousand dollars to replace the diesel fuel system! I told them to hold off so that I can way my options. I have since verified that indeed the high pressure fuel pump had disintegrated and destroyed the fuel system.

20 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/13/2013

Fuel system was flushed and replaced. After that the top of the engine was leaking oil. I took it back to vw in clarksville TN. They said they fixed it. It is still leaking oil just not as bad. Then the car was smoking and burning/leaking oil from the turbo. Vw did not want to fix this under warranty. Even though I had taken this car in several times before for a check engine light that kept bringing up the egr.

21 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/09/2013

At 60,000 miles we noticed a decrease in acceleration and gas mileage in 2010, vw Jetta tdi. The dealer said they fixed the issues, but we only saw a slight improvement in the vehicles performance. In between the 60,000 miles and now 113,000 the car has been diagnosed to have the egr valve, dpf filter, all sensors,. Nox and sox burners to be replaced at a total cost of $10,000 dollars. When we purchased the vehicle the dealership said that the dpf filter would only cost us $1000 dollars to replace, try $4000 just for it. We have taken very good care of the care and feel that vw has misrepresented themselves in the vaule of the vehicle and the upfront repairs. The radio, all doors actuators and trans have been repaired on this car. It has been a money pit.

22 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/20/2012

My 2009 Jetta sportwagen tdi has experienced a disturbing no-start condition several times. Cranking the engine did not result in a start. Only after repeated cranking (5-10 times) did the car actually start. First it would not start several times, then start and die immediately, and finally start, run very rough, and then smooth out its idle. This entire sequence (which has happened at least 4 times in the last month, to varying degrees) occurred in the December-January time frame, with the first incident occurring when temps were right around freezing, with precipitation (rain-snow mix) and high humidity. At least 2 times, the vehicle simply died suddenly while driving, when I took my foot off the throttle and revs dropped down to idle. In addition, the car has displayed a solid check engine and flashing glow plug light, which have come and gone several times (intermittently: one day they will be on, the next day not). The last symptom to report is a p0638 obdii code (throttle body out of range). This code, however, could be a false indication that is related to the number of failed engine start attempts? I took the car to the dealer, and they could not figure out what the problem is. I have a strong indication to suspect, after researching others' experiences on several online forums, that this may be related to the accumulation of water and/or ice in the intercooler, which then either blocks the airflow or becomes ingested into the intake. My symptoms are consistent with those reported in the Volkswagen technical service bulletin (TSB) # 21 11 06 / 2025464 - frozen air charge cooler. However, when I presented this TSB data, along with report of my symptoms to the dealer (after they inspected the car and could not find anything) they told me that they could not help me, since the vehicle is out of its warranty period.

23 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/27/2012

The car abruptly decelerated from 65 to 35 mph on a major interstate as the engine went into 'limp mode'. The sudden deceleration caused swerving and I had to pull over to the curb in order to avoid an accident. The coil/check engine light turned on and car hesitated as it drove. This is the third incident that this car has had with the exhaust problem causing engine to force deceleration and abrupt stopping even stalling. The system this time diagnosed a defective exhaust control module/flap. The previous emissions issue while the car was under warranty involved defective egr valves. Problem seems to show up every 10-15k miles on this diesel model.

24 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/20/2012

Egr valve: check engine light came on, code p0401 for egr valve. Dealer said they tested it and it was "sticking". Not covered under emissions warranty. Failed at 45k miles. Vw part number is 03l-131-501-k. $700 repair.

25 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/14/2012

Drove the vehicle home from work Friday 1/13, weather was below freezing causing ice build up. Parked the vehicle in my garage ~45 degrees. Ice began melt, and when trying to start the vehicle Saturday afternoon it turned 1/4 turn and the engine stopped. My assumption is that the engine inhaled water causing a hydro-lock, I continued to try to start the vehicle a total 5 times (it turned over once and ran extremely rough and died once). The last time trying to start the vehicle I smelled smoke, I popped the hood to find the starter and wiring on fire. I was able to extinguish the fire relatively quickly, considering the vehicle was parked in my garage attached to my house this could have extremely catastrophic if I wouldn't have been able to get the fire out. *** this is the second time for the hard / no start problem, this one however resulted in the fire. Volkswagen will not follow the below TSB since the vehicle started after wiring and starter replacement. Issue mirrors TSB # 21 11 06 / 2025464, which includes engine will not turn over, "dead battery" starter action (due to hydraulic resistance in cylinder), and starter/electrical fires (due to starter overheating during attempts to start locked engine).

26 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/10/2011

This vehicle has experienced continual problems with engine shuddering and stalling. Mostly, while in 2nd , 3rd or 4th gear, early on into a trip the engine will suddenly decelerate and in some case stall out completely. It is as if there is a sudden loss in fuel getting to the engine. This started soon after purchasing the car. It has been into the dealership numerous (6 or 7) times for this warranty issue, including extended stay periods of seven and ten days. First they faulted my fuel, then they replaced the fuel pump, then they have done other work and replaced components, but claim they can not make the car fail as I have reported. They claim to have alerted vw and had a vw technical advisers look at this car. They refuse to do any additional warranty work on the car for this issue since they can not diagnose it. I have kept a log of these failures since my last servicing. Between 10/22/2010 to 3/12/2011 this vehicle has had 19 of these failure events. They usually occur when the outside air temperature is above 32 degrees fahrenheit. The vehicle is still under warranty (28,500 miles on the odometer). I am finding other owners experiencing similar problems. Please help.

27 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/20/2010

My vw Jetta tdi stalled while coming to a stop sign after the clutch was depressed. It did this occasionally during the first year of ownership. After a year of ownership and a dozen or so incidents, the car started to stall multiple times during a one half-hour commute. Twice recently, once on my way to work and once on my way back, the car stalled two and three times respectively. It even stalled on the highway going 65 mph when the clutch was depressed. Usually, it stalls when coming to a red light or stop sign when the clutch is depressed in order to take the car out of gear. At 12000 miles, the engine light came on and off a few times and then remained on. The diesel particulate filter and egr valve were replaced which is highly unusual for a car with such low mileage. Also, after my 20000 mile service the engine light went on again and the dealer replaced the #4 exhaust gas temperature sensor. Before the 20k service I had called the dealer the day I stalled 3 times and reported my engine light went on. I went to the dealer a few days later, Thursday, for the service and the light had gone out by then. The dealer said there was a software update for the ecm to be done in addition to the regular service. I left the dealer after the 20k service only to have my engine light go on again and the car stall again. So I went back to the dealer and that is when they changed the #4 exhaust gas temperature sensor. It did not sound to me like a proper fix for this problem as I believe it could be either an electronic glitch with the ecm or other electrical components or some fuel system problem whereby fuel flow is interrupted when going from load to no load scenarios, I. E. Clutch engaged. Anyhow, I stalled again two miles from the dealer from which I had driven. The dealer says they can't duplicate it or find any codes related to it. They will call vw again.

28 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/08/2008

I have a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta tdi diesel, which has the pd type engine. This pd design has a well-known defect; specifically, an extra load is placed on the camshaft because it drives the fuel injection system, as opposed to previous vw tdi models in which an external rotary pump drove the fuel injectors. Because of this defect, vw instituted a special oil requirement for this car to satisfy the additional lubrication demands of this design. Initially that oil specification was vw 505. 01; most recently it has been changed to vw 507 or castrol oe professional 5w/30. I bought this car used with 80,000 miles on it in July, 2006, and have always had my oil changes done at vw dealerships: one in merrillville, in and one in bensenville, IL. On all but one occasion, both dealerships documented the use of vw 505. 01 compliant oil in my car. On the one occasion in which vw 505. 01 oil was not used, the dealer in bensenville, IL put a generic oil in my car that had no identifying characteristics, other than its dramatically lower price per quart. I did not notice this at the time, because at this February 23, 2008 service the dealer had also pointed out that I needed to have all 4 brake rotors and pads replaced, so I did not have a lower service cost to alert me; this service cost far more than usual and I did not realize at the time that I could tell exactly what oil they were putting in my car from the part number on my invoice; I thought that part number corresponded to the oil change service itself. On August 8, 2008, I had a catastrophic engine failure of the sort the vw service manual warns about if the wrong oil is used, ". . . Even if only a small amount of incorrect oil is added to the correct oil to top off the level. " I did not have an accident, and there were no other cars around me when the failure occurred, but I incurred about $8,000 of repair costs due to damage to my camshaft, valve lifters, total egr-intake system and turbocharger.

29 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/22/2008

The contact owns a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that he had an emissions control device replaced because of a recall, specifically regarding the egr cooler in September of 2006. The vehicle began to leak coolant so he took the vehicle to a different dealer. The dealer stated that the first repair was not performed correctly and was directly related to the leak. The manufacturer offered no assistance. The recall number was unknown. The current mileage was 77,866 and failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

30 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/01/2006

Engine coolant level drops approximately 1 cup each week. Dealer replaced the egr cooler.

31 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/17/2006

1. Coolant light came on (1st time). 2. Brought the car to the dealership, they pressure tested the system and reported no leaks. They topped the system and charged me $100 3. Coolant light came on (2nd time). 4. Brought car back to dealership, they now report that problem as the egr cooler. They suggested I contact vw of canada to discuss this failure as it is becoming very common. 5. Called vwoc and they would not assist with this very expensive repair. Jb.

32 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Jetta

34 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/04/2005

Car temperture gauge suddenly shot up to 230 degrees this particular morning. The vehicle usually signals us if there is something wrong I. E. Brake light, engine light, oil, etc. Without prior warning and knot knowing why this is happening the car was driven to the dealership instead of the intended destination. The customer service rep at dealeship guestimated that a water pump needed replaced which is causing the vehicle to overheat. The car could not be serviced that day due to prior appointments of the dearlership. The car was driven back home until late Sunday evening when the car was driven back to the dealership for possible repair Monday morning. Car was smoking and then tunred off. The car was towed to the dealership Monday evening. As of Tuesday 6/7/05 the mechanins at the dealership report that the car cannot be repaired due to the hoses melting into the engine. The car was serviced several times prior to the incident at the same dearlership, once even for inspection in February 2005 and this repair was never mentioned. Since Feb. The car has been serviced for oil changes and several minor repairs needed such as mirror, cup holder, tires, etc. Prior to the incident the car was driven over 300 miles and no warning light or signal was given. Now the car is unrepairable. The dearlership claims that a 2000 vw Jetta is only worth 1500 dollars!.

35 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/27/2005

Car stared putting out alot of blue smoke from tail pipe on start up and gas milage was dropping 5-6 mpg and I thought that was alot for a diesel engine. Car lost power at freeway speeds and would barely run. Entire intake system to the head was full black sticky carbon choking the engine for clean air. Intake system had to be completly disassembled (maniflod, egr vavle, ccv tube) and cleaned of carbon, which by searching the internet is a very common problem with vw tdi 1. 9 engine.
