10,000 miles, mil (malfunction indicator lamp) came on solid. After I was told that if the light was solid, the car was safe to drive. Took car home and drove to dealership next day. After princeton Volkswagen looked at the car, turned out to be that my 2003 Jetta GLS 1. 8t that was less than 3 months old had a fuel leak! I was told that the fuel sender clamp was loose and hose was smoking.

Engine check light came on Dec 01. Took car to dealer and code for glow plugs was discovered. Was informed that this was not the problem with my vehicle, and repairs were not made. Code pulled up again by 2 other Volkswagen mechanics, not fixed until 7/02 after the dealer concluded that the engine needed to be replaced.
Transmision does not shift correctly around third gear, the car will rev up then the car has a hard jerk. As for the engine the engine will kill any where at any time the hole car will just shut of driving or just sitting still. I feel very unsafe in this car!.

Car dies while driving at any speeds no power-brakes or steering.
Vehicle runs out of oil every 1500 miles, and the transmission is very jerky. Windshield wipers were streaking because wipers were separating. Instrument panel cup holder loose on tight side. The stick shift vibrates in 3rd gear due to selector shaft failure.
Engine consumes about 1+ quart of oil every 1,500 miles. Front rotors need to be replaced at 30,000 miles, while brake pads are less than 50% used. Refrigerant in air conditioner gone at around 30,000 miles with normal use in mild climate.
Vehicle was using an excessive amount of oil. Dealer replaced engine. Currently, same problem again occurred.
At about 26,000 miles, which was about two and a half months ago, I checked the oil and had to add three quarts. I took it to the dealer and they told me to look for black smoke and oil spots on the driveway. No black smoke or oil is visibly escaping from the engine. I checked the oil again on June 15, and had to add another quart and a half. I reported it to the dealer and made another appointment for them to check it out. Today, July 11, 2000, the dealer checked the oil (which was down a half quart), told me that they don't know what to look for and have to wait for the Volkswagen district service manager to point them in the right direction. So "we" are now waiting for a call from the district manager. The oil and filter have been changed regularly, but the oil appears very gritty and also appears to be burnt onto cap of the filler-hole. The dealer seems reluctant, at best, to deal with the situation.
Continual problems, some undiagnosed. Unsympathetic dealership. Reoccuring problems. Most problems occurring after lease/warranty were up. Too many problems for a car that is only about 2 and a half years old. Dealership unable to diagnose why brake light is on, a/c not working, engine not starting although starter was replaced, or why engine began smoking. All the problems appear related. They all occur at the same time. The car is unsafe and I am afraid to drive it now because no one can figure out what is wrong with it.

When traveling consumer has to put 1 quart of oil every thousand miles. Dealership is aware of problem.
The car consumes an outrageous 700-800 miles per quart of oil, which the manufacturer claims is normal due to engine design. My complaint is the fact that this was not even hinted to the user or is written in the user's manual at the time of the sales. This could cause engine damage for customer, or on long distance trip, be a safety hazard.
Car will die for a second or two, lose of power and begin running normally with doing anything 2. Car will not start immediately when it does presents, ie:radio are gone as if battery was disconnected, computer shows no failures.
While driving at any speed and without prior warning vehicle will die out in traffic or whenever the consumer is driving.

Engine died while driving slowly. Mil and generator lights came on. Took two tries to start engine again, then vehicle operated normally. This is the second occurrence in a week and a half. Dealer was unable to find a problem after the first failure.
During extreme periods of cold temperatures for more then 24 hours moisture tends to build up in the engine causing tan creamy foamy build up on the inside of the valve cover, on the dipsick and in the oil pan. This could cause an owner to believe that they have a blown head gasket or valve cover. Left a message that I might have a blown head gasket for gene langan service department on a Saturday. To this day 1/3/98 they still have not returned my phone call. After leaving a message, I did call back and speak with a salesman who told me to have my car towed to glastonbury. My father in law is a mechanic and he knew of the problem wih moisture in the engine and properly drained the oil and flushed the engine ridding it of any excess moisture. If I waited for the dealer to call me, I ould have a blown head gasket driving around with the crap in y engine or I would have one hell of a rental bill. Also if my car needed to be towed gene langan should have towed it seeing that vw has a 10 year 100,000 mile power train warranty and I only had 50880 miles!.
When vehicle is at a stop light the vehicle cuts off. Sometimes the vehicle will not turn back on. Took vehicle to dealer several times, and they said that they had fixed the problem. But owner knows that this was incorrect information because the vehicle is still cutting off.
Driver's door drops when opened, problem with sheet metal inside door, told by dealer metal is not correct size to carry weight of door; drops 1/4 inch, rattles inside while driving; also, engine intermittently hesitates at all speeds.
The car was brought in for service. We were told there was water in the engine, and she must have driven it in deep water. This did not happen, there was no water damage to the interior of the car to indicate driving through deep water as volkswage states. The warranty is void due to the damage we do not agree with this.
The oil in engine is being consumed very quickly. When I take car to get an oil change every 3,000 - 5,000 miles, the oil is usually so low it does not appear on dip stick. The oil is simply blowing out of the engine. You can see the oil residue on the engine.
The presenting problem with this Jetta 2000 is that on three (3) dates, I turned the ignition and the engine ran for only two seconds before dying. Despite repeated attempts to get the car running, this continued. This Jetta has been towed three (3) times for warranty repair. As of this date, the car has only 2300 miles and the defect has not been corrected.
Consumer states there is an excessive amount of heat coming from the front of the vehicle.
Consumer states there is an excessive amount of heat coming from the front of the vehicle.
While driving at any speed vehicle cut off without prior warning, causing loss of control. Consumer has contacted dealer, dealer replaced the engine. Please provide any further details.
Engine oil must be added every 350 - 400 miles.
Vehicle was 2 quarts low on oil at 38,587 mile following a 30,589 mile oil change service, consumer fells this vehicle should not consume this much oil. Nlm.
