My car a 05. 5 vw Jetta tdi has been in and out of the dealer since may 24,07 with the same trouble. Loss of power. Intermittently, most of the time with out any indication or notice. This is a safety issue when you are trying to cross the street. If cars are coming and you pull out into the street and your car has lost its power and you do not expect it. You end up cross ways in the middle of the road with on coming traffic having to brake and wait for you to get out of their way. This happens randomly so you can't prepare for it. It also will lose power while you are cruising down the road and need to push your accelerator down, and find out that nothing is happening, and you may have try some other evadecive move. I no of other people with same the car, having the same issues and dealer have not fixed their cars either.

The vehicle is a used 2002 Volkswagen Jetta 1. 8t, standard transmission, 1) the vehicle was purchased used in 08/2004 and was driven normally for transportation of my family. The check engine light came on several weeks after purchase. 2) the car began stalling frequently at all points of operation. The engine would simply stall at such points as comeing to a stop, accelerating, slowing for turn, or regular driving on freeway and surface streets. 3) we have taken it to the same dealership of purchase four times over five months for this same problem that is covered by the original factory warranty. Parts replaced (from earliest to most recent visits): 1) mass air-flow sensor, transmission reset; 2) pipe from pcv to 3-way hose by valve cover, 1/2 moon seal below chain adjuster, cam seals, breather valve; 3) turbo recirc valve; 4) mass air-flow meter.

Consumer stated that while driving down the road vehicle lost power. The power returned in about 2-3 minutes. She called the manufacturer and the dealer, and they told her unless the problem was first discovered at the dealership, then there was no problem. It did not happen at the dealership because one had to be driving the vehicle. Consumer maintained that this was dangerous because in moving traffic if vehicle slowed down it could be hit from rear.

I am experiencing a loss of power on hills and when trying to accelerate an intermitant check engine light appears. I own a vw Jetta tdi 2000. The dealer diagnosed the problem 1st as a turbo control module, $252. 00. Some increase in power but not very much, check engine light off. 2nd trip to dealer after an 1-1/2 hour discussion about charging me another diagnostic fee and my consenting the problem was diagnosed as carbon in intake and egr valve replacement. I asked 4 questions :how does carbon get in an air intake?, how did the technician determine this was problem? why wasn't it identified the 1st time I took car in and what guarantee would I get? the dealer would not or could not answer these questions and the customer service rep at vw America has not answered them but has offered to pay 100% parts and labor for the repair after two days of calling and trying to get an answer from both of them. Don, is the customer service rep who offered to pay for repair upon my going to another dealer and paying for another diagnostic to verify the problem, as the first dealer has refused service to the vehicle because I insisted on answers to my questions before ok'ing repair. The number I called for vw America is 1-800- 822-8987. I have about 81,000 miles on the car and this problem creates a serious saftey hazard on the interstate or any highway where a slow moving vehicle may be a hazard.
