My steering column started making a clicking noise when I turned it, and then my driver-side air bag light came on.
The driver airbag light is on. Has been on since I purchased the vehicle.
I took my vehicle in to vw of chattanooga in August to get the airbag recall taken care of and now my surprise my "clock spring" is now not working. I called vw of chattanooga and described that the controls on the steering wheel was not working, there is a clicking sound when turning the wheel and discussed my safety concerns. I mentioned to vw of chattanooga that I was concerned that the airbag will just blow up and he said it just will not deploy in the event of an emergency. So I'm like now what do I do, I have a vehicle I cannot drive and the last ones to mess with it was them! they asked if the airbag light came on why didn't I bring back in? I said because I have been on military orders for awhile. They also said initially it was covered under warranty and now they are saying it will cost $732 to get it fixed! I called vw care and they just said my car was out of warranty and it maybe a worksman issue but the dealership will have to work with you on that. Not to my surprise but vw of chattanooga chose not to provide any means of solution or customer service.
While driving the vehicle make a right turn the airbag in the steering wheel opened without impact or sudden movements. It did not break through the steering wheel casement but indicator light came on and all the functions on the steering wheel stopped working.
While driving my 2013 vw Passat, the airbag light came on, on the dashboard and started beeping. When I pulled into my garage, I noticed that the horn no longer worked and none of the steering wheel functions work anymore. I have only 56,718 miles on the car and the vw dealer says it is not covered under a recall and I would have to pay out of pocket for the repair because my warranty deductible is $500. This is a safety issue and vw should be required to repair these airbag issues, not us, the consumer. This is not something we (the consumers) are causing, this is a vw quality issue.
My vehicle was making a ticking sound when turning, then out of nowhere a error message came up that said error airbag, and the air bag light came on. I looked up to see if it was a recall, since I bought the vehicle used, it is for the clockspring, when I used the VIN search it did not so as an active recall for my vehicle.
Everything on my steering wheel stopped working( buttons, horn, etc. ) passenger airbag light is on as well. Does not work when the car is moving or stationary.
"takata recall" air bag light is on when I started vehicle up.
Clock spring is not working after takata recall implemented. No controls on steering wheel work. Horn does not work. Airbag would likely not inflate. Airbag light is on. This occured while the car was not moving.
Recall performed regarding airbag clock spring which involved installing a shroud over the the clock spring and less then 12 months later, the airbag clock spring failed. Volkswagen is refusing to pay for the cost of the repair because they say that they have already performed the recall. The front drivers side airbag, steering wheel controls and horn are no longer working in the vehicle. There is also an airbag light illuminated with a airbag error in the informational display. This is a safety concern. The vehicle was in motion and the steering wheel was in use when the failure occurred.
While slightly turning the steering wheel when backing out of a parking space, air bag light came. There is no communication from the steering wheel controls leaving the horn in-operational. Garvey volkswagon assessed vehicle and concluded it is due to the clock spring failing internally. When temperature drops below freezing, locks will not unlatch. The door handle will not move and the doors can not be opened until the latches unfreeze.
My 2013 vw Passat has 56,000 miles. I replaced at 33,000 on 12/29/2016 at a vw dealer that is no longer in business, based on their diagnostic, the clock spring and airbag harness in the steering wheel. It costed me $610. Fast forward on 09/16/2018 it turns out that I have the same problem, no controls in the wheel at all and airbag light on. The only symptom was a crunch sound in the steering wheel while turning and the airbag light came on right away. A vw dealership stated that it is unusual for a clock spring to go bad that quickly, there's some cars that don't need a clock spring replacement at all and mine needs a second one already at 56,000. Through a phone call Volkswagen of America stated that won't stay behind the problem. I strongly feel that it's a defective/malfunction part that affects my wife's and my children's safety since they are primarily using the car. Currently we're driving the car without any front airbag protection! please investigate this and have the ones who's fault it is fix the problem! thank you!.
Clock spring recall - Volkswagen not honoring the recall for my VIN #. Steering wheel started to click last night upon turning while driving, and now the airbag light is out. Took it into the dealership today and they said it will be a $700 repair for the clock spring. Even with the airbag light out, one of the service guys told me they have dealt with a lot of these and said it was probably safe to drive. When I asked about the recall 69l2, they said my car was not covered in the recall.
We took our car in for service on 8/11/18 due to the air bag light coming on and steering wheel functions no longer working. The dealership confirmed the issue with the clockspring and stated that because our car was out of warranty that we would be responsible for repairs. We stated that this seems like an issue with defective equipment since the car is only 5 yrs old as well as a safety issue with the vehicle. We escalated the issue to the corporate customer service. The rep stated again that they would not cover the repairs because the car was past its warranty. We conducted our own research on recalls for this vehicle as there has been others (I. E. Air bag and adblue heater). We located the 2015 recall on the clock spring and discussed this with vw customer service as well. They refused to acknowledge our vehicle as one of the ones affected even though we are experiencing the same issues. We are concerned with this safety issue as we are not able to use the horn, the airbag is inoperable as well.
My clock spring was supposedly replaced in 08/17 by a vw dealer before I bought the car from chevy. When I took my car in because air bag light was on and no steering wheel controls worked, I was informed that I had an open circuit in my clock spring and since it had already been repaired by the recall I would have to pay for it this time.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 vw Passat. The contact stated that while driving the air bag light came on and the bluetooth, radio and horn failed to work. The vehicle was taken to a independent mechanic who stated that the clock spring needed to be replaced. The vehicle had a recall 15v483000 (air bags) that was repaired in 2015. The dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The manufacturer was also contacted and were unable to provide any further assistance. The vehicle is currently at the mechanics getting repaired. The failure mileage was 103,000.
There was a recall on clockspring, and the repair was a clockspring cover that was repaired on my vehicle in March of 2016. July 2018 my clockspring had to be completely replaced costing $650. There was also an airbag recall that caused my horn to stop working, airbag light to come on, at the same exact time the clockspring stopped working. I took my vehicle to a dealership 2 days ago to have the clockspring looked at and the recall on the airbag repaired. The dealership informed me that I would have to purchase a new clockspring because only the cover was considered a recall, however obvioiusly this was not a sufficient clockspring repair.
The air bag clock spring was originally replaced by recall in 2014. While driving over the weekend and making a turn I heard a noise and felt a thump in the steering wheel. The air bag light came on and I lost all controls associated with the steering wheel. Refrained from driving the car called the dealer on Monday 6-25-18 coulded schedule appt until wed the 27th. On the 27th deer diagnosed it as a broken clock spring. . . . Again. Said they do the repair in conjunction with takada air bag recall repair but that I would still owe $450 to repair clockspring. I protested the repair bill and said it should be covered since it was repaired previously. They said I could call vw myself and have them review the claim. The claim is pending with ve for the third day and I am without vehicle until claim is resolved. There continues to be an issue with these faulty clockspring and vw needs to make good on the previous recall repair.
My steering wheel has been making a crunching noise. While driving on the interstate, I got off at an exit to purchase food. While turning into a parking lot, one loud crunch noise happened and the drivers side airbag light came on. I also noticed that I lost all electronic functions in the steering wheel. I was very concerned since I still had an hours drive home and was unsure if the car was safe or not.
While I was home, I noticed my airbag light came on and the buttons on my steering wheel didn't work. A few days later I was driving on the highway and a car almost changed lanes on top of me. I tried to honk my horn and nothing came out. Thankfully the car swerved back in it's lane because I didn't have anywhere to go. I took my car to the dealership and they told me the clock spring needed replaced. In 2016 I had my clock spring replaced as part of a recall (69l2). I've recently learned that many other people are having a similar issue with their recall-replaced clock spring. Volkswagen is not acknowledging the problem with the recall work and clock spring being faulty and will only replace it if I spend over $700 for another diagnostic and repair.
I have the same issue as investigation rq 17-009. My clockspring was part of a recall with previous owner having the recall completed in 2017. Now the clockspring is broken once again. I contacted vw and they informed me the recall is closed and on me to fix or dealer I purchased the car through. This is a vw issue. I heard and felt the clock spring pop while making a hard turn a few days ago. Lost all hand controls, horn and airbag light. This is a serious safety issue with no airbag.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Passat. The contact stated that while making a turn, the steering wheel made a clicking noise and the steering lost power. The air bag light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the ray brandt Volkswagen dealer, 504-349-7272, located at 4050 lapalco blvd, harvey, la 70058 where it was diagnosed that the air bag cock spring needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000. Fe.
Airbag light remains on. Took vehicle to dealership owings mills heritage vw and was informed that driver's side "curtain " air bag is what is causing it. Concerns as to whether it is defective and if it will provide protection if there's an accident. I would think that this is a manufacturing issue.
Airbag light came on and the steering controls are not working. Dealer diagnosed as clock spring as bad and won't cover because out of warranty. There is a recall for vw Passat 2010 to 2014 for clock spring related problems and airbag, but vw claims that my VIN is not part of the recall. This is not right. . . They have a recall for my exact problem and don't want to take ownership. Really looking for some guidance from NHTSA.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Passat. When the vehicle was started, the air bag warning indicator flashed. Later, while driving approximately 65 mph, the air bag warning indicator remained permanently illuminated, which was a safety concern. The vehicle was repaired by Volkswagen of hartford (133 leibert road, hartford, CT 06120) per NHTSA campaign number: 16v078000 (air bags). The vehicle was not taken back to the dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. In October 2017 I purchased a Passat tdi from armstrong Volkswagen in gladstone oregon. I then found out about the clock spring recall. Within a month of owning the vehicle, my entire steering wheel components stopped working and the air bag light came on. While driving, my airbag light remains on, none of my steering wheel controls work, when I turn my steering wheel it almost makes a crunchy noise behind the steering wheel, and I am concerned for mine and my families safety while driving my car. I contacted the dealership and spoke with the service manager who informed me that they personally replaced the clock spring in January 2016. I asked them if they would please re-fix it, as the first fix did not work, and the clock spring was already bad again, less than 2 years later. The service manager told me that they had done what was legally required of them, and that they would not be fixing my car. I then asked to speak to the general manager, whom I left a voicemail for, to see if he could help. He has yet to call me back, two weeks later.
(missing dealer) tl the contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Passat. The contact stated that the buttons on the steering wheel failed and the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering wheel clock spring failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. My wife was driving car makes a turn and hears a noise in steering wheel. The drivers side air bag light comes on. Upon further investigation the steering wheel electric controls also do not work. Online research shows voluntary recall by vw for certain 2010- 2014 Passats for clock spring. Bring to local mechanic who tells me clock spring is bad and I should bring it to vw for repairunder recall. Call my dealer in riverhead NY who informs me that even though the Passat is in recall range the VIN is not part of recall at this time. Vw has recall for 420,000 cars for clock spring but for some reason mine is not included and I will have to pay 400. 00 for repair. Recall needs to be expanded.
Clock spring recall. Was fixed in 2016 but is again broken and vw refuses to reimburse the dealer or cover the cost of the repair. Due to this recalled part not being repaired properly, my airbag light is on, I do not have a horn, cruise control, not have the ability to use my steering wheel controls. This, I feel is also relevant to the airbag recall. I cannot sell my car with this issue, nor do I have the $ to fix it. It is dangerous to drive it, as it already has an airbag not working, the airbag light on and no horn. I have contacted both the dealership and vw and they refuse to cover the cost of this recalled part.
Recall notice #15v48300; date 08/04/2015; air bags; frontal I was backing the car out of my driveway turning my steering wheel when I heard something rattling around in the steering wheel and then I heard a "snap" or "pop" and then an air bag error alert was displayed on the information panel, the air bag light illuminated, and I lost the electronic controls on my steering wheel. The car is currently at the dealership and the quote to repair the issue is around $550. Unfortunately for me, my VIN is not included in the recall notice 15v483000 for 2010-2014 Passat sedans, so I am called vw to complain and hopefully they can do something to help with the cost of repairs since there are 2010-2014 Passat sedans that are affected by the recall, just not mine.
Steering wheel too tight especially when turning right or left. Unsafe feeling. Air bag light on.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Passat. The contact was included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v483000 (air bags). The dealer jim ellis Volkswagen atlanta (5901 peachtree blvd, atlanta, GA 30341, 1-(888) 848-3509) scheduled an appointment for the recall repair, indicated that the recall repair remedy was provided however the dealer had only put a cover over the part which was not replaced. Within 2 years of the dealers repair, the horn failed to function, there was a short on the ribbon cable wiring affecting the steering wheel mounted control functions causing the air bag light to illuminate, the clock spring assembly failed and the dealer refused to provide a solution without the approval of the manufacturer. The contact was not included in NHTSA action number: ea18003 (air bags). The manufacturer was notified of the failures, provided no assistance, indicated that the vehicle would need to be diagnosed and repaired by a dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 101,000. Dyd.
I am having airbag light on of my dashboard. I am always having the suspect about airbag will work or not if required. I contact vw services center that they can't help. Vw recall website says it is not available from last February 2016. Do I still use the car or not? I have only 1 car for the basic commute to work. I followed up multiple times with vw. But there is no movement to address this problem.
