Tl the contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Passat. While the vehicle was in reverse, the contact heard an abnormal clicking noise coming from the steering wheel and a "driver side air bag error" message appeared. The contact called findlay Volkswagen at (702) 558-6600 (located at 983 auto show dr, henderson, nv 89014) and was informed that the vehicle was previously repaired for manufacturer recall number: 239516 and an unknown NHTSA campaign. The vehicle was not repaired again. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 22,000.
Clock spring has failed in less than a month after clock spring recall in January of 2018. Steering controls are not functional, air bag error light is on, I assume driver's side airbag is currently non functional. Turned the vehicle and heard a pop sound originating from the steering column, lost steering control, and air bag error immediately followed.
As I was driving I started to notice a rustling sound whenever I would turn the steering wheel. About 20 minutes later my dash light stating that there was an airbag error came on for the drivers side airbag. The horn and the other control buttons in the steering column ceased working as well.
The vehicle steering wheel clock spring was repaired under recall from vw in Jan 2016 at 42000 miles and failed again at around 46000 miles, leaving my car without driver side airbags. It is quite unsafe to have such a crucial safety part to fail so regularly and unexpectedly. I believed that the recalled clock spring that got installed in my car is also defective.
Takata recall. An entire year has almost passed since being notified that the driver's side airbag in my vehicle is affected by the takata recall, yet I still have not received any notification on the manufacturer remedying the situation. All the dealer has to do is replace the airbag, that is the remedy! why am I waiting an entire year for the dealer to replace a defective driver airbag that has the potential to kill me if I get into a minor accident?! this is absolutely unacceptable and I demand a remedy free of charge soonest.
Via usps ( attorney solicitation ) I have been advised there is a problem with the driver's side airbag. Volkswagen has not contacted me concerning their plan for repair. Can you get matters resolved ?.
