1 Clockspring problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2018

The contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Passat. While driving approximately 15 mph, the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. The contact restarted the vehicle and was able to drive with air bag warning indicator still illuminated, which was a safety concern. In addition, the steering wheel controls and horn failed to function. The vehicle was taken to mandeville Volkswagen (1700 n causeway blvd, mandeville, la 70471, 985-626-1067) where it was diagnosed that the clockspring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 122,000.

2 Clockspring problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2017

The contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Passat. While turning the vehicle off, the contact heard a popping noise. The contact restarted the vehicle and the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The contact also mentioned that the horn failed to sound when depressed. The vehicle was taken to legend Volkswagen (158 merrick rd, amityville, NY 11701) where it was diagnosed that the clockspring was fractured and needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that the vehicle was previously repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 15v483000 (air bags) and offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was 26,000.
