One of the passenger rear windows into fell into the door random on day, had to replace the window regulator. Eventually within the next two months the passenger side window and driver rear window also became defective, falling into the door and their regulators had to be replace. A recall should be issued, clearly this is a defect vw needs to take care of as many others with same car are having this same issue.

I needed to replace the rear driver side window regulator on my 2000 vw Passat. A week ago I the rear passenger side window regulator failed. Today my front passenger regulator failed. This seemed like a little more than bad luck. It turns out I'm not the only vw owner who has had extremely bad luck with their window regulators.
I own a 2004 vw Passat. The window regulator went out in the back passenger side door. The window does not go down when the button is pushed. I have a friend who owns a 2002 Passat and her passenger window regulators keep breaking also. She has had them fixed several times, but the problem still exists. I have not yet fixed mine.
The contact owns a 1999 Volkswagen Passat. While driving he attempted to open he drivers side window and the entire window fell off track inside the door. The contact made several attempts to close the window with the automatic switch and was unsuccessful. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer and there were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 110,000.

Sporadically the rear windows would not respond to the window up/down switch, then later without touching the switch the windows would open or close. The dealer found a cheap plastic cotter pin type instrument causing the problem. I have not had the chance to check out the repair since the dealer has my car going on 3 weeks for two other issues (transmission surge and engine light/p0101) for which they are having problems diagnosing the problem.
Passenger rear window regulator went out on mine first with a crunching sound and then the glass just fell into the door. I have already replaced the passenger front regulator. Typical cheap plastic vw parts.
Rear driver side window dropped into door panel without warning approx 11/2 years ago - window regulator broken. No previous damage to door or window suggesting a potential problem. Six months ago car was taken for service because front passenger window was not opening or closing completely. Prior to checking technician suggested window regulator was going bad but claimed nothing was wrong with window upon inspection. Oct 17, 2008 same front passenger window dropped into door panel. Window regulator broken just like other. $450 min service. Volkswagen claims its bad luck not a recurring problem.
I was driving down the street when my passenger side front window fell down into the door. The is the second time for this window and the fourth time overall. Everytime its been the window regulator. This cost me $392 everytime. I drive my car once or twice a week. This should not have happened four times when I have less than 60,000 miles on my car. I know many people with the same problem but who do we complain to? and when we do it falls on deaf ears. I can't take it anymore. Also my cruise control does not work and they want me to spend another $300+ to put a new turn signal in. Also, my passenger side, side airbag harness and airbag itself are bad. They want at least $600 to fix it. I have a 1999 Passat with 55,000 miles and it's a money pit ! please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
This is the second time that the window regulator has gone out on my 2002 vw Passat 4motion glx. Â the first time this happened the drivers window regulator failed due to a corroded cable in the assembly. Â the most recent just happened to the rear passenger regulator, but this time the plastic assembly that holds the glass window broke and and the window fell down in traffic. Â I am very mechanically inclined and have fixed both of these problems on my own time, at my own expense. Â just wondering if anyone else is experiencing these problematic issues. Â â thank you,â darin.

When the car is traveling approximated 2-10 mph, the automatic transmission accelerates and brakes as the automobile bucks a few times. Their is a loud thunking noise and then goes back to normal. From time to time the car gets stuck in 2nd gear, which forces me to pull over and restart the engine. Windows are supposedly automatic up and down, but don't work properly 50% of the time. Rear back speaker plays intermittently. When parking and shutting down engine, the emergency brakes turn on and off. The engine key is getting stuck in the ignition. Overall issues seem to be electrical or computer related. I have taken back to dealer twice in the last 6 moths and the problems keep building.

I just bought my daughter a new "used" vehicle. Because it is over 5 years old, the vehicle is sold "as is" - no warranty. Since getting the car home, in the first 120 miles I drove, not 1, but 2 window regulators broke creating a load crashing noise and a safety concern. The noise caused me to brake suddenly since I did not know where the noise came from. Fortunately, the vehicles behind were able to stop without crashing, but it was a very unsafe condition. The car is in the repair shop right now and the estimated repair is cost $501. 75. I have been driving for 35 years and in my lifetime, I have never seen a vehicle have 2 window regulator failures within a one hour time span, also within a 20 mile driving span. It seem to me this is a defective part and should be recalled and replaced by volkswagon. All this after I just spent $7000. 00 for this vehicle. In doing research, I see this is a common problem for volkswagon.
I have had my 2000 vw Passat for a little over two years and it has been a money pit! I have had so many problems since a month or so after I bought my car. I bought the car from a private party, test drove the car, had it checked out by a mechanic, and I have put thousands of dollars into the car. I bought the car just before my senior year in high school thinking I made a wonderful choice, and I had to replace a new right side boot just after a month of owning the car. The check engine light/abs/airbag kept coming on and beeping at me, and I had to buy a whole new brain to the car over $1500. I had to replace the timing belt way before the mile warranty, oil leaks which ruined some wires, new shocks/shock absorbers, now the window will go part way down, but will no longer go up. . . And my headlights are fogged up which I have noticed on all other 2000 Passats. . . ! many things have gone wrong with this car. I am so frustrated with the car. I do not recommend a vw to anyone! I am going into the second year of college and have spent most of my savings on this piece of junk. I think after fixing a part of the car that it should run without any problems. Since I have put so much money into this car I cannot afford to get a reliable car. There is something seriously wrong with vw and the recalls! as far as I am concerned the whole car should be recalled!!!!.
Am I filing this report in the correct place? I have a 2000 vw Passat. Three of the 4 windows have dropped into the door. Options: costs $350 each to fix or $60 to have mechanic freeze window in place, creating a safety hazard. Many may go this route as their only option. Considering it myself. The regulator is the same one used in the vw jetta and these have been recalled. The window regulators in the Passat need to be recalled also. Concerned for the safety of my teenage drivers who may need to lower the window (front passenger) in times of poor visibility.
I've spent over $8000 towards vw dealership attempts at fixing the horn, radio, homelink, climate control (a/c and heat) rear passenger side window, heated seats, dashboard panel lights, and defroster flap. Vw replaced abs and brake light module, but only fixed the horn. Vw stated they are not responsible even after I paid for them to fix the above problems and they are still unable to determine the cause of the problems. I request reimbursement from Volkswagen for the repair attempts and related expenses. Current vehicle mileage: 127,000.

Purchased my 2000 Passat in 2003, had numerous problems since. It seemed like everything on the car had to be replaced. The control arms, O2 sensors, twice, belts, stereo didn't turn on, all new hoses right away, all 4 window regulators, and now to top it all off, the abs lights kept coming on. My husband has a 2000 Audi a4, virtually the same car, and had to replace all of the same things. The abs seemed to work fine, but the dealer said it would be $1800 to fix it. I looked at some online forums and found thousands of people with similar problems. The manufacturer, (bosch or Volkswagen, should do something about this. My car has been parked since August 2006 because I don't have money to fix it! I am college student. Help!.
3 of the 4 side electric windows have failed during the past year.

9/2003: headlights aimed incorrectly; road wasn't illuminated. Within 2 wks, 1 of the bulbs burned out. Within a week of the 1st, the 2nd bulb burned out. Cost to have headlights repositioned & bulbs replaced: $267. 9/2003: rear tail light out. Cost to have bulb replaced by mechanic: $32. 50. 11/2003: both rear windows off track. Cost to tear doors apart & fix: $159. 75. 12/2003: electrical problems with front power windows. Never know if window will go up or down. 2004: had car in for (at least) 3 different dashboard warning codes. One had something to do with fuel, or the fuel tank or something. After some trial and error on my mechanic's part, discovered that unscrewing and tightly rescrewing gas cap fixed the problem. Cost to diagnose and "fix": $165. Had (at least) two other warning codes in 2004 that required me to take the car in. 6/24/2005: had been hearing crunching sound from front right portion of car that was particularly apparent when hitting a pothole, a dip in the road or attempting a tight 360 turn. Mechanic (specializing in european cars) identified a bad control arm. Cost of repair & alignment: $713. 70. Cost of rental car: $100. 88. Total: $814. 58. Note: the left side has been making the same sound since 12/2005. Have not yet repaired it. 10/24/car started going dead intermittently. The car had less than 60000 miles on it. Replaced battery for $106. 50. 1/2006: temp gauge maxed out, coolant boiled over, smoke & steam issued from hood in less than 8 minutes at idle. Cooled car for 2l hours, replaced coolant and drove to mechanic, who replaced thermostat, water pump & timing belt. Cost: $725. 2/2006: brakes are spongy and provide no resistance until nearing the floor. Mechanic says rotors and brake pads are fine. 6/2006: transmission gets stuck in 1st gear. Must stop the car, turn it off and then restart. This is an electrical problem and is governed by the computer. Cost to fix: unknown. 6/2006: front window now off track. Have not yet fixed it.
2000 Passat - 82000 miles - front right power window - regulator failed allowing window to drop into door. Technician found plastic part which rides in track broken and pieces in door. Vw has similar problem in mulitple vehicles. Extended warranty issued to cover repair on other vehicles but not on Passat.
This is the third power window to fail and fall into the door. The dealer won't pay for it since vw does not acknowledge it as a defect.
Driver side window was noisy when closing, now has failed such that window does not close completely, slides down allowing water and wind to enter vehicle. Motor will function, but makes sounds as though cogs in regulator are stripped. Many other owners on various discussion forums have experienced the same problems.

Four ignition coils defective - replaced defective ignition - key stuck in car for over nine days defective stereo - replaced twice to date defective electrical - windows and locks go up and down while driving, gas cap pops open unexpectedly computer problem - computer blacks out at times defective wheel bearing - replaced at 17,952 miles defective motor blower - replaced defective rear wheel lining - replaced.
Automatic lock and power window on rear passenger side door are inoperative. Dealer took two attempts to fix it. On the first, they applied some electrolytic grease in the hope that it would be enough. The next time they replaced the motor and lock unit.
The passenger door power window does not work most of the time - trunk will not unlock with key, cruise control only works sometimes.
Heater core failed spontaneously, causing massive amounts of sweet smelling white/grey smoke and hot mist to fill the passenger compartment, causing a total visual obstruction to the driver and choking/coughing of a 5 year old passenger. The driver, my daughter, manager to pull safely off the busy road (us rt 1), but she and her child were very shaken by the event. The failure of the heater core could have caused a fatality! I have reported the incident to vw of America. I expected to hear back today from the vw dealership, but did not. I requested that they pay in entirety for the repair. The service manager was resistant, as there has been no recall on this model vw, although there have been on many others. The car has been a lemon, very expensive to maintain. It was a model built either in brazil or mexico. After the warranty expired with the dealer, we took the vehicle to a certified vw mechanic who was meticulous about maintaining the vehicle mechanically--we have detailed computerized documentation. Nevertheless, there has been an ongoing problem with the doors and locks, either the doors not staying securely latched during driving, problems with the power windows, and now the doors may be locked from the outside only--not when one is driving and wishes security. I did not report this to vw. I will be delighted if they come through for me on the heater core. One thing at a time.

Nar 04/07/2003 mr. The timing belt, cylinder heads and the mass air flow had to replaced and the consumer is requesting reimbursement. In the past the consumer had to replace 2 window regulators, the sun roof opened and closed for no reason, the rear door would not lock, the windshield wipers did not work.
Power window motor (right side passenger) failed.
1. My car had ignition switch failure. There is a recall on ignition switch failures for the year/make/model of my car. When I contacted the manufacturer they said the recall doesn't apply to my VIN. 2. Drivers door window register has failed. Many owners of similar vehicles have reported same.
Car is equipped with power windows. My family was driving with both passenger side windows down. (front and rear). When I pushed the driver control to raise the rear passenger window, the front passenger window also raised at the same time, crushing my wifes arm. This phenomenon is repeatable over and over again.
Right rear power window mechanism was repaired under warranty (2 years/20,000 miles) twice. About two months ago (car one month out of warranty) left rear window mechanism failed. Today right rear window mechanism failed. I drive car 99% of time. No one in back seat, so no kids playing, etc. The rear power windows appear to have a design defect. Of course, the car is now 3-4 months & 2,370 past two year/20,000 mile warranty. I request that these repairs be covered by maufacturer as the problems first occurrred before warranty expired and continue. Appears to be design defect. Windows wil only retract 1" and then fail.
Electrical short had affected window regulator and climate control. A TSB had been issued.
Catalytic converter replaced early on in ownership. Water pump, oil pump, timing belt replaced two months ago. Turbo replaced twice and still defective. Electrical problems with driver's side window, heated seat, trunk light. Suspension system bushings need replacement @ only 56,000 miles. Steering column replaced early on.
Consumer stated the front passenger window was making a grinding noise, the dealer ordered regulators for both windows, also the mirrors would not adjust properly, drivers seat memory function stopped functioning.
Driver's side power door lock unlocks itself while car parked. Intervals vary.
Vehicle stalls intermittently at speeds of 25-65 mph. Vehicle taken to dealer 10-15 times, cannot find a cause. The mirror switch is inoperative due to window switch failure. The driver seat warmer was inoperative. Engine has a burning smell due to oil leak. Vehicle made noise in front end on left turns due to a stabilizer bar clamp being loose. Front brakes make noise. Steering makes noise and locked while driving. Steering column sliding cover cracked.
