The contact owns a 2006 Volkswagen Passat. While driving 50 mph, the windshield wipers failed to operate. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle had previously been repaired according to NHTSA recall number: 06v470000 (visibility); however, the failure persisted. The approximate failure mileage was 112,000.

Driving home with in freezing weather after a snow storm, every few minutes cleaning the windshield with washer fluid, where after stopping the car for a few minutes, the wipers refused to function while driving (attempting to clean the windshield from the road salt). Had to carefully pull over, checked the fuses, and cleared all ice from the windshield cowl and wiper blade arms, then it worked. None of my older cars had this issue.

- the contact stated that while driving a 2006 Volkswagen Passat it stalled in a turn. He had been driving along steadily for 2 hours with out incident prior to the vehicle losing power. The contact took the vehicle to be serviced, and was informed that they could not find the cause of the problem. The passenger side headlight was inoperable, the work was completed, however 2 hours later the headlight failed again. The vehicle exhibits a one to three second lag in the accelerator, most noticeable when the consumer is truing to accelerator. There was a rattle coming from the headliner/sunroof assembly. There was a rubbing noise coming from the brakes. There was a rattling noise coming from the rear view mirror trim pieces. The windshield wipers were inoperative. The fog lights were inoperative. Updated 01/31/07.
2005 vw Passat, repeated total failure of windshield wipers. Does not seem to be predicated on any specific events. The dealership (duke gold's speedway Volkswagen) is not familiar with the problem and does not seem to know how to fix it.

We purchased a new Volkswagen Passat station wagon from livonia Volkswagen autoplex (now thayer automotive livonia, inc. ) in July, 2003. At 18,500 miles, the car developed a rattle in the under carriage and the brakes were squeaky. We took it to the dealer and their service department stated that the car has aftermarket brakes that fit differently from vw brakes, hence the rattle. However, these are the brakes that were on the car when they sold it to us. We have contacted vw of America customer service on three occasions regarding this issue. They contacted the dealership and were told by the service dept. That the brake pads appeared "too new" to have 18,500 miles on them (implying that we have had the brakes replaced). Based on this, vw of America states they will not authorize vw brakes to be put on the car. We have not had the brakes on this car replaced or serviced in any way, and have never had the car serviced anywhere but this dealership. Incidentally, the day after the 10,000 mile service, the windshield fluid reservoir was empty, and the day after the brake inspection a hubcap flew off. This may speak to the skill and integrity of this service department. We filed a complaint with the michigan department of state bureau of regulatory services who state that this matter was not in their jurisdiction because the dealership is no longer licensed by the state, and suggested we contact you. We bought this car in good faith, assuming, of course, that it was made of all vw parts. Apparently it is not. Currently, our new car has squeaky brakes, an increasingly loud rattle in the undercarriage, and a missing hubcap. Vw of America will not help us. The sales manager and owner of the dealership do not return our calls. We would like vw brakes on our vw car, assurance that everything else on the car is, in fact, a vw product, and a hubcap replaced. A family who buys a new car about once every twelve years would appreciate help.

Replacement windshield wiper blades have a specialized attachment and are only available through Volkswagen new car dealers. The blades are also easily bent by snow brushes, scrapers and the like. The difficulty and inconvenience of obtaining replacements of this critical safety part causes visibility problems and an unknown number of wrecks. The date of the incident is the approximate date I purchased the vehicle new from Volkswagen.

Automobile requires special windshield wipers which are only available through dealers. These are currently on "national backorder" with no time to fulfill. Wipers are generally of poor quality anyway and thus the need to replace to maintain visibility is imperative.

Volkswagen Passatt 2004. Vehicle windshield wipers are designed with a groove in the rubber that holds snow and ice and causes ice buildup on the wiper. In snow and freezing rain the wiper surface cannot contact the windshield resulting in an obstructed windshield. This is a design problem and happens consistently. Volkswagen was contacted and denies this design flaw exists.
Windshield wipers "bounce"/"stutters" across the wind shield in light to mild rain causing unsafe visibility while driving the vehicle. Manufacturer warrants wipers for period of 12,000 miles, dealer was told about the unsafe conditions, however they did not document my complaint. They always told me that they were ok.
Whenever you use the windshield washer, some of the fluid gets into the vent and you can smell it in the cabin and even sometimes taste it as you are driving. I believe windshield washer fluid is toxic. I have two late model Volkswagens, they both do this everytime. I've never experienced this with any other car I've driven before.
Nar 04/07/2003 mr. The timing belt, cylinder heads and the mass air flow had to replaced and the consumer is requesting reimbursement. In the past the consumer had to replace 2 window regulators, the sun roof opened and closed for no reason, the rear door would not lock, the windshield wipers did not work.

I own a 2003 vw Passat, the new style windshield wipers are usless in snowy and/or icy conditions. The snow and ice accumulateon the wipping blade with no where to discharge it. This occours on every swipe not after long term use. I complained at the dealership and vw and was told nothing can be done but was told that other owners complain about the wipers. During snow conditions I have to drive at 20-25 mph and turn the wipers off. I noticed on the 2004 models a small change in the design of the wipers, there must be a reason why a change was implemented on a one year design, but vw will not admit or change my wiper. I am not a mechanical engineer but could see the problem with the design only one hour after constantly stopping to clear the ice/snow of the wiper blade. Hope that somebody will look at this problem.
Windshield wipers do not work on rainy days making it difficult to see out the windshield. A lady hit my car on the right side collapsing that side along the doors and some of the rear and the air bag did not deploy. I put my feet on accelerator for speed and the car refuses to respond. The more I accelerate the slower the car goes.
