Wiper Problems of Volkswagen Passat - part 1

I have a 2015 Volkswagen Passat tdi that I purchased in 2018. The car has no heat and needs a second heater core replacement, currently with 85,565. In researching the issue, I found the warranty extension on the ntsb website number: vwp-16-05 that covers model years 2013 and 2014 prior to my model. As winter approaches, lack of heat for the windshield creates visibility issues in cold, wet, and snowy weather. I am limiting the use of the vehicle until I can get a repair. In February of 2022, a dealership replaced the heater core in my vehicle at 48,471 miles, and I paid $633. 07 for that portion of the service. The car started to display the issue again in February of 2024, I returned to the same dealership, and was quoted $1977 to repair the issue, which I declined at that time. I ask that the case be reviewed and 2015 model year be added to the extended warranty.

I'm having issues with the heat in my vehicle. There is no heat on the passenger side which also affects the visibility of seeing out the windshield because the defroster does not function properly. The original owner replaced the heater core somewhere around 40-45000 miles. I have owned 2 other vehicles of this model and had the same issue on everyone of them where the heater core was replaced. . This is more than a inconvenience it is a potential hazard not being able to see when the windshield is frosted or fogged up. It is a poor design and this needs to be addressed and investigated further. It's a bad time of year to have an equipment failure like this. There was no accident or incident but there is a potential hazard waiting to happen.

The contact owns a 2017 Volkswagen Passat gp. The contact stated that heat and defroster/defogger, blower is inoperable. No warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, a diagnostic was not done, and it was not repaired due to cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

As the trunk hatch opens and closes, the wiring to the hatch wears down, frays, and then shorts or breaks. This killed our rear view camera, which is a safety issue. This also can cut off light to the license plate. The rear hatch also cannot then be opened from the rear of the car, as the handle is electrical and gets disconnected, possible causing another safety issue.

Vw has replaced the heater core twice on this car. Yet less than 1 year later the heat will not work on just the passenger side which then foggs the windows and eliminates visablility rendering the car useless.

My vw Passat has no turn signals, horn, bright lights, wipers just all steering column and steering wheel controls don’t work. Have even heard airbag don’t work. Vw shop in st. Peter’s missouri said my clock spring is broke but part is back ordered. They said come get the car it is drivable until unknown time part will come in. My car might drive but it is illegal and unsafe to drive without wipers in rain and no turn signals. Unsafe to not have horn, bright lights, or air bag.

The clock spring was diagnosed to be faulty in February '22 and a new part was ordered and not in yet. This has made the airbag, wipers and horn stop working. This is a failure that affects thousands of vws and they have no idea when the new parts will be available. This auto is my only transportation!.

Heater core getting clogged again, after multiple replacements, vwgoa will not perform recall because of other not related recall not performed. When heater core gets clogged three things happen, passenger side stops producing heat, windshield defrost does not operate correctly, and coolant lost due to evaporating and or leak into intercooler that can lead to engine damage.

A coolant issue related with an tdi engine clogged my heater and the car is frosting from inside. There are many Passat owners that have or has the same issue and vw even made an extended warranty buletin for the 2012-2014 Passats, now, the 2015 suffers from the same issue and they want to charge us for flushing the coolant 3 times and change the heater! the car still have the power train warranty and extended warranty for the tdi engines. Just a simple google search Passat heater core will show how many they are and dealers are making easy money cause they done so many times. As is now my wife drives the car during freezing mornings with two toddlers and condensation and frozen windows affects the visibility! unacceptable for a car with 51. 000 miles when is no require in the service book to change coolant to prevent this and what causes that, cause is not something that I could do to prevent it, it’s just the nature of their poor design of their coolant system. And changing the heater core without looking what caused that and only to rip money from their customers. I’m requesting your assistance to get my car fixed and have my family safe and have vw to investigate the cause and come with a solution to prevent this!.

Plugged heater core. Obd code present p2457. Defroster was compromised. Confirmed by vw dealer. Advised by manufacturer to replace heater core and flush system per technical test and repair procedure.

No heat coming from blocked heater core so defrost system ineffective. Result is obstructed vision because the defrost system is not working efficiently. Known defective part on this model car (internet research) but vw refuses to recall. Happens at all times, stationary and moving. No heat in passenger cabin at all.

My 16 bought a car from bommarito vw hazelwood, they told us it had prior engine work and the customer couldn't pay for the charges so they sold us the car. When test driving we heard a clunk every time you would excel. The salesman said it was stuff in the trunk. Come to find out there are no motor mounts holding the motor and the motor goes up in the air when you give the car gas, the motor hit the exhaust and broke it. There is no way this car passed inspection with a motor hanging there, you can't see through the back window because the tint is so bad. A dealership should not of sold a vehicle with a motor like this, it's a bit dangerous to put a young girl in. It has taken me two weeks for someone to call me back.

Poorly designed heater core clogs prematurely regardless of maintenance resulting in inability to defrost windshield before or while driving, especially in colder climates. This vehicle has had cooling system flushed at 3 years of age, well in advance of recommended interval and, yet as seen in multiple complaints on computer search still has clogged. 54,750 miles on a vehicle less than 5 years old that we cannot feel safe operating during temperatures below freezing due to likelihood of condensation from our breathing freezing on inside of the windshield.

Heater blows cold air. Does not allow for defrosting while driving.

Vehicle stopped blowing air through outlets causing fogging of wndows and reduced visibility air blockage occurs while stationary and moving.

I have a 2017 Passat when it's raining hard on the road and my speed is greater than 55 mph the passenger side windshield stops right in front of my vision vision (right in the middle of the driver's side) creates a white blocking effect so I don't have a clear road visibility. In a service I discussed this detail with the service advisor at the vw agency and he did not want to understand or was misunderstood, I told him that the design of these windshields had this defect. On another occasion when I was driving in an area where there was snow the front collision alarm started to alarm for no reason, there was no obstruction, apparently one of the front sensors fails when it gets wet, I took the car to the dealer and reported this to the service advisor, they did a review of the car they said that it had nothing damaged that everything is fine. But when it rains really hard, it does this.

The heater core becomes clogged due to excessive flux use in the heater core construction. Causing no heat output on defrost or through vents. Vwofa has acknowledged this as an issue and offers an extended warranty on the heater core, however, there is a 4-6 backorder on the replacement heater cores. This is dangerous when driving in winter conditions and coming upon freezing rain/sleet or snow this causes the vehicle to become unsafe to drive and potentially leaving you stranded in bad weather. Currently, vwofa is not offering any loaner vehicle while they wait for parts, making my Passat unsafe to drive in any possible winter weather conditions.

Vehicle has 49000 miles and is a gasoline engine. Passenger side heat only blows cold air, which prevents the windshield from defrosting/deicing in wintertime, affecting visibility and safety. Driver's side is not affected. Research suggests that the problem is the result of a defective heater core similar to that found with diesel versions of the vehicle. This issue should not be occurring with a vehicle only having 49000 miles.

I had recently scanned my vehicle with a diagnostic scanner because my window washers were not spraying to clear the windshield when manually activated by the stalk. The code shows a short in the circuit somewhere between the stalk and the washer pump. I tried replacing the pump but same outcome no washer fluid would dispense this is a very big inconvenience mostly because where I live most commutes are part highway and part sideroads/ dirt roads, so things start to get dirty and visibility is dramatically reduced. Im really not trying to pay for a harness or to get the loom pulled apart to find the bug. To keep everything looking stock.

Windshield began cracking in the middle from passenger side toward driver side. No rock or other debris hit windshield. It is a continuous crack that is a fine link crack that continues to spread.

The heater core is clogged and the passenger side windows of the car, both windshield and door, do not defog/defrost for up to 20 minutes in southern California weather. It is a known issue online with many owners of vw's in the 2012+ range affected. I almost hit someone in the crosswalk twice recently due to the decreased visibility.

My concern first occurred in November of 2014, where the heater blower motor stopped working causing the window to be covered with moisture and vision obscured. When I brought to vw dealer the blower had started again and I was told they could do nothing as it was now operating as intended. I have since learned that in 2015 tech tip was issued concerning snow or moisture entering the blower compartment was found to be impairing the blower motor. They issued a repair kit designed to secure future snow from entering this area. Fast forward to February 2019, when my blower again stopped working. I had my vehicle towed to my vw dealership for repair, hoping it would be covered under the extended warranty I purchased when I bought this vehicle. I have since learned this is not covered by warranty as it is a design flaw and not a part failure. My dealership suggested installing the tech fix upgrade noted to prevent future failure. This cost estimate was $800. 00. I made a cal to vw customer care to appeal for some remediation for this cost to repair a know defect. I was told that no recall had been made for this condition and my vehicle was out of mileage limits and age. This vehicle has 63000 miles and is six model years of age. My contention is that this was a known problem that had a known tech fix, in 2015, when my first concern should have been addressed. I have learned from my online research that this is not an isolated occurrence, where snow has migrated into the blower box, causing the blower motor to seize or become inoperable. Thank you for any update this may inspire.

Driving while in inclement weather noticed passenger side window fogging up and didn't think much about it such as heavy rain etc. And didn't think much about it. Fast forward to sub freezing temperatures in a snowstorm and now noticed passenger side windshield frozen and wipers useless. Start diagnostics and find cold air blowing out air vents and read thousands of people have the same issue and Volkswagen knows about it. They actually had an enxtended warranty for some not others to cover this issue and a service bulletin to bandaid the fix. This is affecting thousands of people and is a safety issue affecting thousands and the worst thing about it is replacing the heater core is only temporary as it will have to be done again as they have no permanent fix. I can deal with fog on the windshield but not a frozen windshield only to have no means of getting heat to thaw out. I read about BMW having issues for blower motor resistors why can vw be held responsible for a clogged heater core.

I was traveling to work on interstate 85 (which as four lanes) and all of a sudden there was a gun shot/explosion sound that rattled my car. I froze and closed my eyes (thank god I was on a straight road & did not yank my steering wheel), when I opened I was covered in glass. For some reason, my sun roof exploded for no apparent reason. It was not below freezing or extreme heat and I had not been under an overpass. I had glass in my clothes, my mouth, my hair, and all in my car.

Both side mirrors are automatic. The side mirrors are supposed to fold in when turning the car off, and fold out when the car is on. One or both of the mirros either fail to fold out when the car is started, or fold in unexpectantly while driving. This creates a highly dangerous life and safety hazard when it happens. The car has been to the dealership's shop while the event occurs, and the issue does not record an error code in the car's system. Due to the lack of an error code, the dealership states they cannot fix the problem. This is unacceptable! I am driving a vehicle that is dangerous and hazardous to drive and vw is ignoring the issue because it is not issuing an error code when it occurs. I have pictures of this occurring on my car, I have taken the car to the dealership when it is occurring. And yet, there has been no satisfactory solution and fix of this very dangerous flaw because there is no error code. This has happened numerous times, and I have taken it to the dealership numerous times. The last time this happened is the date I inserted into this form.

Tl- the contact owns a 2015 vw Passat wolfsburg. The contact stated that the vehicle defrost system does not function correctly. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where they informed the contact that her air compressor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not aware of the failure. The drivers side visor is secured above the windshield with a plastic part. This part has broken for the third time in this vehicle. There are also electrical cords running into the visor for remote controls. When the plastic part securing the visor breaks, the visor drops down obscuring the driver's visibility and is left dangling by the wires. The visor remains a problem for the driver until a repair is made and the new visor costs about $600 installed because of the electrical wiring. I have had 2 new visors previously put in this car. Considering the age of the vehicle it has low mileage and is not driven very often. This happened 3 times while driving on city streets. I am not computer savvy and cannot scan the repair documents.

My passenger wiper is no longer working. And the screw had stripped off. I live in florida where it rains all the time and is a safety concern especially with children in the car.

Left front lowbeam went out, replaced bulb but still comes on intermittently. Contacted vw and my car was not part of original recall , however my vw dealer has said hundreds of this make and model not covered under original recall have had same issue.

2014 car. Dec 2017 heat has failed because of problem with heater core which followed failure of radiator in 2/2017. Replaced radiator in 2/2017 and heater core in 12/2017. 10/2019 heat failed again. Heat is insufficient to keep windshield clear in cold icy weather in northeast. Winter is hear again and heat is inadequate to keep windshield clear.

Both side mirror are automated. The side mirrors open when they want to. Sometimes one stays closed, sometimes they both stayed closed. There is no consistency on when this happens and or how often. Generally they work with a more frequent delay in opening the mires - I. E. When driving away already they open on their own. The real life and safety issue is when they do not open at all. This is a major problem and something there vw dealer cannot confirm with error codes. My question to vw is : how can the car be driving forward with the mirror still collapsed and the system is not recording an error code? this is unacceptable. Also. . . I have requested to have these mirror disengaged - to remain open - but according to vw (dealer) this is not possible at all. So. . . I am stuck with a vehicle that has a major life and safety issue and vw is ignoring it without an action because they do not have an error code etc. . . I have video of driving with the mirrors still collapsed for reference. This has been occurring since day1 of ownership.

The windshield, in raining occurrences, is covered with a white thick coating and makes it impossible to drive, putting lives in peril.

The heater will not keep front window defrosted and clear. On cold days makes it very difficult to see and drive car save. Driving on very cold days is dangerous as windows will not stay defrosted. Have had near accident because of reduced visibility.
