Wiper Problems of Volkswagen Passat - part 2

I bought this vehicle new and had the heating system serviced at the vw dealer. The heater core has fail two times, both times I had it replaced at a vw dealer. The first time was on 12/21/2016, I contacted vw and they would not cover any of the emplacement cost. The second time was on 01/24/2018, the dealer representative said vw would cover half of the cost of the repair. I paid for my have and then contacted vw to see if they cover the whole cost. They said they would not. Thank you. Charles kainz that is two heater core replacements in a 13 month period. That makes me think there may be a problem with the heater cores.

Windshield visibility defrost/defog failure: defrost failed on passenger side of vehicle. No heat on passenger side of vehicle. Causes ice accumulation on windshield and fogs up due to insufficient heat. Causes safety and drive-ability issues in cold and extreme cold weather. Heater core failure matches similar failure reported NHTSA id #10079822. Repair is the exact same as NHTSA id #10079822 as well as same repair replacement part. Shop acknowledges that the same part manufacture failure exists but does not include this VIN. Vw needs to expand part failure to include additional vehicles with same failing part. Failed part number 561. 819. 031. A and replaced with 561. 819. 031. B. Diagnosis is identical to the 2013 gasoline Passat. I have also confirmed that this repair is only being offered for gasoline cars and not the diesel cars. I cannot confirm but I believe that it has to do with the diesel recall. This is rotten I am not offered a fix for the emissions and they will buy my car back but I would take a loss of $3000. In the mean time they are not offering extended warranty repairs or are only offering them on gasoline fueled cars.

As I have seen in your database my Passat has many of the same problems. My side mirrors sometimes do not unfold or function as expected. ( vw says there is no fix ) my backup camera sometimes doesn't work ( vw says there is no fix ) my car stops for no reason thinking there is an object in front of it. Not only are these problems real the car did not register any faults. These problems happened all the time yet intermittently. Please note that my car was made in the USA. And exported to canada. I am in canada. Due to my youtube videos I have been contacted by several vw owners many in the USA that have had the same problems and vw is not doing anything for us. Drivers side window fell partially into the door while operating window power control during driving operation on highway. Upon reaching the destination and touching the window power control, the window completely fell down into the door. This event is the second time it's happened on this vehicle.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and stated that the windshield wiper motor was not included in a recall and the air bag failure was not recall related. The vehicle was not repaired. One of the actuators in the hvac system prematurely failed and had to be replaced. I believe it was the recirculation actuator. I could not get the car to properly defrost, causing dangerous driving conditions as visibility through the fogged windscreen was drastically reduced. The dealership replaced the actuator (at my expense) and the issue was resolved. An actuator should not be failing this early in the vehicle's lifetime. I, the user, did not do something special to cause this to occur.

My car has 50,000 miles on it and the heater cores in these cars should not be failing already. The problem happens while in motion and while stationary.

My car suffered a clogged heater core with 25k miles on the odometer. The result was low cabin heat and an inability to maintain windshield visibility using the defroster setting when outside temperatures dropped during winter. Symptoms occur when stationary or moving.

No heat coming from the passenger side of the car. This was found out while driving to work on a very cold day and not having the defrost working very well on the passenger side. Taking it to the dealer confirmed that the heater core is clogged and needs to be replaced. This was a month ago. I found out that the parts were back ordered and that I was #502 in line for a replacement.

The defrost is only working on the drivers side of the windshield and it only blows cold air on the passenger's side of car. The right side of the windshield frosts up while driving in cold weather.

This vehicle experienced a failure of the heater core due to clogging. Visibility through windshield was restricted due to heavy fogging and poor defroster performance over several months. Cleaning of the windshield was no help. The fogging would come and go during vehicle operation and was heavy at times. Diagnosis took some time due to the vehicle being only a few years old. Generally a 3 year old, well maintained vehicle will not have a clogged heater core. The gradual diminution of heat due to the progressive clogging caused the lack of full heat not to be apparent in the spring and fall months however heavy fogging occured during these seasons. It was not until winter that the lack of heat and defrost was apparent. After replacement of the heater core assembly the issue was resolved.

Backup camera/navigation/radio system system does not working in a consistent manner (camera works when it wants to-big safety concern, screen goes blank, etc. ). Radio/navigation controls are inoperable at random occasions while vehicle is in motion or even at a stop position. Radio screen goes blank even if radio is on and user is unable to control it for up to a few minutes. On 2 occasions, even after turning the entire car on and off multiple times the radio was on but all controls were inoperable and unable to turn off. Eventually the system became operable a few minutes later. Safety issue has been discussed with vw dealer and they stated vw knows about all the owner inquiries into this issue but it has yet to make a recall. My concern is that backup camera does not work as it should and therefore the safety feature that the vehicle came with does not function properly. This causes the driver to go in reverse with only the help of mirrors. If safety equipment does not work properly then it should be replaced. Second, when the system controls malfunction the volume and on/off buttons cannot be used and therefore driver is left focusing on how to fix this issue not on keeping their eyes on the road. As per my discussion both with the dealership service department and the customer service at corporate office, they admitted to the recurring issue for many vw owners but said it had not become a big enough issue or safety concern so there was not recall. My question is if system (backup camera/radio/navigation) is already a documented issue for many owners and does not allow a safety feature to work properly (backup camera) or can cause a distraction for a vehicle operator then why is not a recall. I purchased a brand new vehicle with the expectation that all equipment would work as described.

I have an air bag light on and I get a warning sign that it should be serviced. Wipers are not that effective and I keep on having fogy windows so I have to keep on adjusting the heat.

I was told that my airbag issue was due to the sensor getting wet and I had to pay to fix it, and then I receive letter saying my inflator is part of recall, the first recall on my car for the daytime driving light still has not fix, its been in the shop at least three times, on top of that you can move the gears in my car without pressing anything or braking. .

After owning the vehicle for approximately a week I realized what I thought was a slight inconvenience turns out to be a major visibility issue. I had noticed shortly after purchasing the vehicle that in congested traffic the interior rearview mirror causes blind spots. At first I noticed that this was blocking the upper sections of most sedan type vehicles. However on the date in question I was in major traffic there was a delivery truck with a higher road clearance. This vehicle began moving left into my lane. That is when I noticed that the interior rear view mirror was blocking my ability to see the tail lights and turn signal lights on the rear of the delivery truck. After noticing this issue I took greater concern when driving and looking at the visibility. Then on the 27th while driving to a local park the interior rear view mirror only allowed me to see about a small portion of their lower torso. The cyclist was in the bike lane just off my front passenger tire. This was still the issue when the cyclist was slightly ahead of my car. If the cyclist had signaled he was merging into my lane for the upcoming intersection I would not have been able to see the hand signal. Luckily because I know there is a blind spot basically in front my car I was able to avoid any incident. These issues would normally not be an issue as most rear view mirrors have both the ability to tilt (up, down, left, right) however also can be moved around two inches upward, downward , left and right. This is due to the ball joints at both the upper and lower (base) of the interior rear view mirror. However on a number of vw vehicles they do not have the lower (base) ball joint. Thus I am unable to position the internal rearview mirror to an appropriate location. Hopefully I can have this resolved before an accident occurs.

Heated side mirrors will not turn on when the temperature is over 68 degrees. In houston, it's often over 68 degrees, and mirrors will fog over. The side mirrors are useless when they're fogged over, and could easily cause an accident due to the lack of visibility.

These steering wheel components stopped working: horn, turn signals, high beams, windshield wipers, and cruise control. Not sure if air bag will in case of a car wreck. Instrument panel displays the following message: "button for driver assistant system defective". Been an ongoing issue for the past since buying the car 2013, roughly 5 years ago. Volkswagens technicians repaired the issue multiple times on seperate occassions *while the vehicle was still under warrant.

After driving for an hour I made a stop for about 30 minutes. I was returning to my vehicle when a noticed blue fluid coming from under the engine on the passenger side. I took the vehicle to a Volkswagen dealer about 3 miles away. After the dealer inspected the vehicle they found "hose connector near pump leaking washer fluid". The dealer replaced the hose connector. Not leaking at this time. I have since returned the vehicle to the dealer for other issues I'm experiencing with this vehicle that wasn't present during my test drive and I am filing separate complains for those issues because im being told that these are normal characteristics of the vehicle. When I purchased the vehicle it only had 38 miles. Current mileage 1900 miles.

Takata recall first I would like to say my sunroof opens and closes it self then. Sometimes when I turn car on it shuts off says steering defected then its takes a couple seconds to come on. My wind shield wipers keep sayin I need water but its full then my daytime lights are off this car has many problems I keep getting the same parts fixed over and over. And then I have no recalls what the only way if we crash and die then we will get it fixed im putting so much money into car so can you please help thank you. There are 3 complaints. I have purchased 2 Volkswagen Passats in 2009. One is working fine except windshield tank leak, and the other one has the leakage and at the same time an engine problem. I would like to recall the other one of which I have registered with vehicle id here followed by the below reasons and requests. 1. Windshield tank leakage since there was no accident and it naturally leaked. 2. On the 17th of November 2011, the car suddenly stopped and exhaled black smoke and I could not drive any more. I definitely stopped and called a wreck car and went directly to the dealer. The dealer reported as steering column module problem. (also mentioned about injector ) 3. On the 14th of September 2012, I was on my way to work and quite far away from the company, the car suddenly stopped with the same problem as 2011. I was late for work for sure and it was almost life threatening circumstance because of the environment. I called the wreck car and here is another report from the dealer. "customer states vehicle was driving rough, shaking and emitting smoke excessively: smelled of fuel: made it to the dealership and will not start. Check and advise. Inspected vehicle retrieved p0300 random misfire p0303 cylinder #3 misfire and p0087 for fuel rail. Noticed large amounts of white smoke coming from exhaust and strong odor of fuel. . . )" 4. I have power train warranty for 5 years or 60k mile (which will be the first) and the dealer fixed 2 times for free because of the warranty. Now even the warranty is being terminated and I have no other ways to secure my safety. Followed by the above reasons, I will not be able to drive this car which I have purchased in 2009. When I drive this car, I do not feel safe and even feel life threatening danger while I am driving because those moments in the past were very dangerous.

The windshield wipers on the 2008 vw Passat self-adjust their speed on their own without the driver touching them. On Sunday, August 22, 2010, I was driving on I-95 and drove into an area under a tornado warning. It was raining in torrents and traffic came to a stop. My windshield wipers were on regular speed, and while stopped they suddenly changed to intermittent without me touching the controls. This happened four different times! I was trying to watch the sky for swirling clouds and watch the road for flash flooding and the windshield wipers kept slowing to intermittent! I called the dealership at 7:30 a. M. Monday morning and learned that the wipers are operating as designed. I do not understand how the engineers and leaders at vw could possibly think that the car has a better sense of the driver's visibility needs than the driver! this is an absolute and obvious safety hazard! the driver knows the conditions they are in! how could the car self-adjust something as critical as the driver's visibility? please force vw to change this "feature" in the Passat and any other models where it is present.

Humid day, began raining. Windshield wipers did not function in 2006 vw Passat. Car had been previously recalled on this issue and a moisture kit installed by dealer. Now the windshield wiper motor will be replaced under warranty.

My luggage compartment light kept chiming in my car even though the door was shut. I recently took my vw Passat to a dealer and was told the windshield wiper motor needs to be replaced at a $400 cost. The wiper motor that broke, was leaking fluid into the lock, which I had to replace 2 months prior to this incident. I noticed recalls for the same part in newer models. My car only has 60,000 miles on it.
