The contact's granddaughter owns a 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that while her granddaughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the low oil pressure warning light illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the residence, where oil was added to the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where an oil change was performed. Additionally, the dealer replaced the oil separator and gasket. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the repair could not be covered because the vehicle was out of warranty and the previous oil changes were not performed by the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.

This vehicle has burned oil and needed regular additional oil fills between recommended oil change. We have taken the car to Volkswagen northampton for regular oil changes who have never dealt with the oil leak or burning issue. As a result of this the car now at 64k miles needs a new engine. It has piston issues , timing belt issues, , communication modules between the eco and bmc issues, and cam shaft timing issues. Our mechanic is suggesting a new engine. Vw of America will not assist us saying there is nothing they can do.

I am experiencing a high oil consumption rate on my 2023 vw Tiguan. Vw claims that the rate of consumption is within the 1 quart every 1200 miles limit, but 3500 miles after an oil change, the check engine oil light came on and I had to add oil. 2000 miles later, it came on again and I had to add oil again. In a 10,000 mile oil change rated car, this would equate to adding 8-9 quarts of oil between changes. This is not normal oil consumption. The effects of increased emissions and premature fouling of the catalytic converter system alone is cause for concern, or the possible loss of engine power on the highway due to failure from lubrication loss, resulting in an accident. The car will emit blue/white smoke from tailpipe and rough idle randomly when the cylinders are overloaded with oil.
My Volkswagen Tiguan suddenly and without warning blew a large amount of smoke out of the exhaust along with oil while driving at highway speeds - causing the cars behind me to lose visibility and possibly be covered with oil further reducing their visibility due to the vw manufacturers faulty crankcase breather/pcv valve. After this happened the car dash lit up with warnings and went into "limp mode" where I was not able to exceed 2500 rpm which is very dangerous when on the highway - luckily for my safety at this point I was on a side road. When I checked the engine I found no oil was left in it, it had been sprayed all underneath and up the back, which reduced visibility in the window. I was responsible for towing it to the dealer and was given no loaner despite being under warranty. Leaving myself and children without a vehicle. The dealer confirmed that my vw Tiguan had a faulty crankcase breather which caused over pressurization and pushed up the valve seals and cracked the oil pan. They only replaced those things and not the fouled spark plugs or oil filter from the crankcase breather failure which can cause more engine damage and dirty emissions.
The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that while driving on a highway at 60 mph when the vehicle experienced a reduction in automotive power and the vehicle speed was reduced to 25 mph, the epc, check engine and master warning light. The local dealer was contacted however the vehicle was not diagnosed as the vehicles VIN was not included in any open recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000.
At only 38,200 miles the dealership found shards of metal in my engine. The only solution is to replace the entire engine and my car just passed its warranty 5 months ago. I have kept up to date with services and driven the car responsibly. There is also another 2021 vw Tiguan owner in my town and her car did the same thing at only 29,000 miles! she was still under warranty so the engine was replaced but she now states that it burns through oil at a concerning rate. One day the engine like just turned on, then the car goes into a “limp” mode and doesn’t exceed 3000rpm.

My car has delayed acceleration issues of between 3 - 6 seconds. The last one that was 6 seconds ore more was on June 29. In addition it's happened several times. I took the vehicle in for its last service and was told the issue was my battery. Battery was replaced and issue not resolved. The service before that I was told it was a carbon build up. Continues to happen sporadically.

High oil consumption.
Low engine oil light appeared after 1000 miles. Car was topped off with oil and light appeared again. Oil consumption test was conducted car is burning 4. 5 q per 1000 miles, results have not been consistent. Vw claims this test is within their parameters but the car can longer travel 1000 miles until an oil change. More symptoms have appeared such as a decent size smoke cloud on engine startup. Both Volkswagen dealerships have said this is not normal to a new car and said you should contact customer service. It’s been 2 weeks and they have yet to respond.

The vehicle experiences intermittent (but daily) accelerator lag or failure to respond when the gas pedal is pressed from a stop. There is a significant delay—sometimes several seconds—before the car begins to move, even when the accelerator is fully depressed. This appears to be related to the power train and/or engine system. The hesitation in acceleration has created multiple unsafe situations, including near-miss accidents while turning left across traffic or entering intersections, when the car failed to respond as expected. This hesitation could easily result in a collision, particularly in high-traffic areas. The issue has been reported to the dealership on multiple occasions and while they have been able to reproduce the problem, it isn't every time and they turn the vehicle back over to us unresolved. Video documentation of the malfunction has been submitted to the service department, and they have acknowledged the issue is being reviewed by vw engineers. The vehicle has been inspected multiple times by the authorized Volkswagen dealership service department. Engineers from the manufacturer have reportedly been involved in the review, though we have not yet received a confirmed diagnosis. There are no warning lamps, dashboard messages, or error indicators associated with the accelerator issue. The first noticeable delay in acceleration from a stop occurred at least 6 months ago and has continued intermittently since.
To whom it may concern: I wish to report what a believe is a defect in the new Tiguan which is causing the engine to overheat. The check engine light came on the day after we purchased the vehicle. This was due to a part of the lower shutter in the front of the car breaking off, which prohibited the shutter from opening and shutting. It could not cool the engine and thus the engine started to overheat. We are not entirely sure what caused the piece to break, the mechanic said it was likely a rock. We did not get into an accident and in fact had only driven the car once. So I wanted to make this report in case someone else had a similar issue as if this piece is prone to breaking, it could potentially cause other more serious issues.

My vehicle will have a slow start when I start the car and also a delay when it is at a stoplight. I took it in for service twice and they told me it was because I had an after market battery. However - yesterday my car completely went dead at a stop light and I had to turn the engine off and in. It often lags or stops at a light. According to reddit it seems it’s a crank start issue.

The lower oil pan cracked due to excess pressure in the engine from a broken oil air vent. This is a very common issue in vw tiquans, that vw knows about but doesn't recall. The faulty air oil vent leads to cracked lower oil pans and oil dumps that can damgae the engine and creates dangerous driving situations.
Timing chain repairs and replacement.
Extreme oil consumption would cause a catastrophic engine failure. Low oil warning light going off (3 times within 3000 miles) requiring the need to add oil. Oil on dipstick is down to the bottom. Had local big o check it out - oil had been lost. Currently doing a 1000 mile oil consumption test through dealer. Started at around 48,000 miles. Currently have 52,000.
I am writing to formally express my deep concern and disappointment regarding the sudden failure of my Volkswagen Tiguan se, a brand-new vehicle purchased just three months ago. While driving, the car abruptly stopped in the middle of the road, putting my entire family in grave danger. Fortunately, there was no vehicle immediately behind us, or this could have resulted in a serious accident. Safety concerns: this incident raises serious questions about the reliability of this vehicle model and whether such a failure should ever occur in a brand-new car. A sudden breakdown in traffic is unacceptable, and I strongly condemn the presence of such cars on the road if they pose safety risks. Service & response issues: following this incident, I contacted Volkswagen’s service team at lewisville volk vogen ,893 s stemmons fwy lewisville, TX 75067 to investigate the issue and provide urgent assistance. However, after completing the service I got the heating error again in the car. This puts me in very deep state about this car. I have the incident report with me with stale enginer issue and the service done by volkvogen team and the issue still persists. Request for immediate action: I request Volkswagen to take urgent action to recall this kind of car which risks my entire family life into danger. If car stops on highway, we all will die instantly along with others who will be behind us. Sincerely, [xxx] [xxx] vehicle details – VIN- [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
My vehicles started to consume large quantities of oil. Although vw allows for 1. 2 quarts per 1000 miles, putting oil in every 1500-1800 miles is very costly and is probably damaging my engine and increasing emission. The atlas has the same problem and was the subject of a recall. They did a consumption test for free but said I was at an acceptable level. Driving over 500 miles a week for work is becoming very costly and my warranty period is ending soon.
This vehicle has excessive oil consumption. I purchased it certified pre-owned under the manufacturer warranty still in effect. It had 36,847 mikes in the odometer. Having an issue with a prior 2022 tiquan I checked the oil at 39,000 mikes, it was 2 quarts low and I added 2 quarts, I checked it at 41,000 again it was low 2 quarts. I took it to the dealer with 41,132 miles and had the perform an oil change at hoover Volkswagen. Then, I checked the oil at 43,000 it was 2 quarts low and added it , due to the bad customer satisfaction I had with my sale of this vehicle and trade I had I took the vehicle to jim ellis Volkswagen of kennesaw what said to do consumption test. I started the process with 45,111 miles on the odometer . The vehicle has an oil consumption issue.
The car will randomly jump, buck, engine accelerate . Even if I brake or put in park when engine on, it still bucks and feels like it wants to accelerate. Also when I want to accelerate and push on gas(like when I stop at stop sign and it’s my turn to go) it will randomly just buck and feels like it wants to stall, in middle of me trying to go into traffic . I’m afraid that if a person walks in front of my car( for example at a light or when I am waiting to turn, breaking, for someone crossing the street in front of my car) the car could bounce jump and hit them even when I break as I said, it jumps even while I break. I also am afraid because when I accelerate into traffic it also sometimes doesn’t accelerate and will pause and bounce…. Car easily could hit me!! I brought it to vw and they tried to tell me the repair would cost over $3000 I then brought it to another reputable repair shop and they thought it wasn’t related to what vw claimed they would fix. The other repair shop stated it to be computer/electrical issues which causes everything else to malfunction down the line and that they see this in many vw because of the heat here where we live (because vw did not reset computer system before checking electrical code again reason/malfunction. Vw only just went with whatever the computer system said without resetting it. Any ways guess I should also tell you when this happens an exclamation point comes up on dash board with some other initials, which I will send photo of. Iam afraid to drive it is in safe. And sometimes if I turn the car off and back on it’s like nothing is wrong with it!!! and it may not happen again for days !! but always happens eventually. This has been going on for on for about 6 months to 1 yr. Vw always blew me off until my warranty was up and now suddenly it’s an over $3000 issue, suddenly know what the problem is now! my 2nd opinion disagrees with them and told me to bring it to him when it happens but is closed each time it happens??.
Upon first cranking the vehicle, vehicle has excessive stuttering while accelerating after driving forward. Occurs after car is parked for 1 hour or more most often. Uphill, downhill, flat all the same. Acceleration causes stuttering for the first few minutes of operations. If you do not disable the start stop feature, prolonged stops at red lights cause the same issue and can lead to serious dangerous pretense for accidents while on the roadway. You have no ability to accelerate out of the way of harm until it smooths out. There is also an intermittent engine light that flashes until engine restart but does not record a dtc code. I suspect foul play in the ecu from vw. They are aware and tracking this issue but offer no solutions. Dealers will not service without dtc code and then it’s not repaired still. This is a severe issue for owners. Issue present for nearly a year now with no resolve.
Volkswagen vehicles have a real serious problem that can cause your car fails in the middle of the road, and it is the oil separator. A failing oil separator can lead to poor engine performance and potential damage. It will cause a massive oil leak that will damage others' engine components, and the car can stop working at any moment, and it can be a dangerous situation. The most affected vehicles are Volkswagen Tiguan. Please investigate this problem because a lot of people are dealing with this dangerous situation.
My engine shut off my battery as I was driving. This forced my car to stop in the middle of the road. There wasn’t a battery sign or engine light on until after the event. This could’ve caused a wreck, especially if it would’ve happened on the highway. I also have a problem with my gas not registering. It doesn’t show how much gas I have left in my tank. I have had other electrical issues, and problems when starting my car.

The vehicle has had repeated failures of the oil filter adapter to block gasket. This gasket has been replaced three times in 41,000 miles. There appears to be a failure on the part of the gasket. The vehicle has been repaired for the third time, the gasket remains with the dealership where it was repaired. I do have photos of the gasket. A catastrophic failure would result in radiator fluid pouring out of the vehicle, causing the vehicle to come to a complete stop, regardless of location. This problem has occurred three times within 41,000 miles. The part has been inspected b the mechanic who replaced it. There is no warning other than to watch for leaks.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? defective primary engine water pump, yes. The original primary engine water pump system for a 2012 vw Tiguan 2. 0 was replaced under the vw extended warranty in 2020 by an authorized dealer as a the result of the class action suit---please see water pump class action and limited warranty extension bulletin issued by NHTSA. The replacement primary engine water pump system installed in 2020 has been found to be defective in March 2025 and the primary engine water pump requires replacement a second time -- without a warranty extension and less than five years from the date of service of the replacement under the water pump class action and limited warranty extension issued by NHTSA. Vw is still using defective primary engine water pump systems throughout the warranty period----does the NHTSA have any evidence that vw made modifications to the primary engine water pump system after the bulletin issued by NHTSA? was it a requirement that vw modify the primary engine water pump system? I have been informed that no changes were made to the vw primary engine water pump that was used to replace defective primary engine water pump systems as a result of the water pump class action and limited warranty extension. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? a defective primary engine water pump is a safety risk because it creates a potential for engine failure. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? the problem has been confirmed by an authorized vw dealer. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? unknown were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? indicator warning lights on dash--red.

The car vibrates excessively when in drive or reverse and the brake is being held. Vibrations stop if car is put in neutral. Car also hesitates when driving. And is a major safety issue when driving. The vibration is also in my opinion a safety concern because it’s causing excessive wear and tear on other parts of the car. The dealership acknowledged that there’s excessive play or wear in the dogbone mount but refused to replace it because I was told that part should be bad because there’s less then 30k miles in the car. But I am still having the same problem with the vehicle and have had it in the dealership service department where they will keep the vehicle for a few days and then tell me they can’t find anything. The most recent visit to the dealership they never even test drove the vehicle and I even had the service rep sit in the loaner and then sit in my vehicle to feel the difference between the two which is extremely obvious and he refuses to acknowledge it.
At 49,000 miles, all four spark plugs and ignition coils failed and had to be replaced due to engine stuttering and hesitation during acceleration. The check engine light first appeared as I approached a red light to make a timed left turn at a high-traffic intersection during rush hour. The malfunction caused my vehicle to struggle accelerating through the intersection, putting myself and others at risk. A certified mechanic confirmed the error code indicating faulty spark plugs and coils and replaced all components under warranty. However, the check engine light continued to reappear intermittently—sometimes turning off for a week after restarting the engine, other times staying on for extended periods. Despite the initial replacement, the same code concern persisted, and the mechanic replaced the components again under the parts and labor warranty. When the issue continued, I took my vehicle to my regular trusted mechanic, who performed a more in-depth diagnostic. They discovered an excessive and unusual amount of carbon buildup in the fuel injectors, which was likely triggering the engine code and causing drivability issues. This diagnosis resulted in an additional repair expense of nearly $700. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives, but the failed components are available for inspection upon request. These issues are unexpected given the vehicle's low mileage, age, and regular maintenance. Total repairs reached nearly $1,300. The hesitation posed a safety risk in traffic and suggests a possible premature system failure. My regular mechanic noted Volkswagen may claim this is “regular maintenance,” though this is not common in similar makes and models like the Tiguan.
At roughly 750 mi, we got a notice the engine oil was low. As soon as we got home we took it to the dealership and they told us that oil burning was normal. Since December of 2021 we have taken the car to the dealership multiple times about this issue and they have refused to acknowledge there was a problem. Last week we took the car to another dealership and they tell us oil has destroyed the cylinders and other parts of the engine and we need to literally replace the entire engine.
Vehicle began burning oil with no visible leaks, severe engine hesitation when accelerating from stop at 42k miles. Vw dealer tested and advised oil consumption was below the 1. 2 quarts every one thousand miles (6 quarts for each five thousand miles, I am at 3 quarts every five thousand miles). That vw allows for this particular issue (piston rings are know to have issues) but mine are not bad enough to be fixed under warranty. Replacement of the piston rings is a significant out of pocket expense when your is within the warranty period. I have since miled out of warranty. And they also declined to cover it under my extended warranty. The acceleration issue is dangerous as when commuting daily to work on a 3 lane highway, when the stop and go traffic goes, and I don't, this poses a hazard to myself and the other drivers. The hesitation can last 10-20 seconds and the the car jerks to speed. This must also be causing increased emissions.
There was an issue with excessive oil consumption. In as little time as I have owned this vehicle I have had to top my oil off between oil changes because my low oil light had came on. I then, over the winter got a check engine light, it threw code p24d6 which pertained to the oil leak and/or seperating. I then noticed that on my driveway, I have some oil from my car. I paid a mechanic $200 to fix this plastic drain that according to the mechanic doesnt reseal.
