Volkswagen Tiguan owners have reported 5 problems related to engine stall (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Volkswagen Tiguan based on all problems reported for the Tiguan.
While driving at a constant speed or decelerating the engine will stall without warning. The engine runs so quietly the only indication that it has stalled is there is no power and the steering becomes more difficult as the vehicle gets slower. It doesn't seem to matter your speed, it will just stall and this can be incredibly dangerous. Originally happened in 2017 and took to the vw dealership but they couldn't find anything wrong. It is happening again today and earlier this week 8/19/2018.

Car at 55,000 miles had coil failure. Caused engine to race and stall almost causing an accident. Luckily, it was only at 25 miles per hour in my development.

Engine stalled approaching stop-sign rear ended vehicle in front of us. This was the third time this has happened with a stalling issue not accident, seems to be at lower (under 30mph) speed often as you start to slow for a stop sign or stop light. It now has happened again yesterday exiting an automated car wash. Have taken it to Volkswagen three times, once they changed the electronic (brain) box they said but no failures or codes were recorded, so they were just trying something, after doing some online research it seems there may be some issue with fuel pumps/ fuel pressure to me. Very disappointed in Volkswagen once we had an accident they no longer wanted to talk to us about the issues. I will not purchase a Volkswagen again. We had a similar issue with a 2009 Ford escape with a throttle body issue that turned into Ford extending and replacing the part at no charge, Ford was very proactive/helpful un like Volkswagen.
